I think its time for a new HD2 Section... What do you think. Mods?
Rarely do I post but I do read (and seach) all the time. I believe that the initial problem with adding a section for android is that android is not at all ready for the HD2, respectively.
While I do sit back in amazement with how fast development is moving along, adding a android section would bring even more "one timers" (folks that register just to ask a question that has been answered 20 times before) and flood the boards even more than they were when the HTC-LINUX discussion was open.
Its my opinion that though android is looking spectacular at this point, until there is a reliable way to flash android to NAND or at least a build that can hold its own without making you reboot your phone over and over, the temporary solutions that the mods have decided upon should stay in place.
Id like to conclude this post by saying thank you to the team for continuing to develop the linux kernel and various builds on their free time.
Good day.

Bump and +1
Wait until it can be flashed before you propose this. Having a ROM of android that can be flashed is better than using it through a loader.

It would be great when there will be a android rom in the next days! The newest android is really great and smooth! Why don´t try to flash it to internal stonage?

Because they still need winmo to initialize a lot of the hardware. Only 1 or 2 winmo devices have flashable android roms out of over a dozen devices that have android ports... most having been developed for years. It will probably still be a while before there is a flashable rom... I don't see the appeal, anyways. It doesn't improve performance much, if any. And it takes away the ability to have both winmo and android on your phone. If you want to only run android, why not get an android device? By the time there is flashable android roms for the HD2, there will probably be android phones with specs and screen equal or better for all the carriers and countries people say they can't get good android phones for.
Why would you want to flash android instead of having the ability to run both winmo and android, and any other linux ports that are released? Is there any reason? I would much prefer a dual-booting power phone than making it just another android phone that probably won't run as well as a native android phone.

Ok you´re right! I didn´t think like you before but you´re really right!
But a faster sd card would speed the android up a bit right? I just have a class 4 card...I think I have to buy a faster one

This is a good & thoughtful opinion, though I feel that a section just for Android will allow people to more easily access the basic information that 'one timers' want to get, so a new section might help this problem rather than making it worse.
It would keep it all in one place, which would leave the ROM development section for WinMo rom discussion only.
There have been Android sections for Xperia, Pro2, Pro, Blackstone etc while the port was much more immature than the HD2 Port.
Now almost everything is working in Android, and there's lots of discussion & various people putting builds together on a regular basis.
Due to this progress and huge level of interest, I think it's time for a separate section for Android on HD2.

I only voted yes because im sick of seeing threads with android questions posted all over, its boring now, I see Android as a dual boot-able os, not something i wanna take my phone over with

Man, I seriously doubt your statement here ...
Do you have any comparative numbers to back your opinion there? Fact is, Android runs "on top" of WinMo right now. Meaning you have a complete operating system running in the background.
I really expect at least some noticeable performance improvement if an optimized android is running standalone on the HD2.

Look at the other ports on other devices. Go read the threads. Sometimes when flashed to nand they will lose some functionality until they get driers right and every initializes right.
And Android does not run on top of winmo... where do you get that from?? Android is running stand-alone while it's running. It all runs from ram... only speed difference is the speed that data gets sent to ram, which is quicker with nand, but not enough to make a big difference. Haret shuts down the windows ce kernel and boot the linux kernel. You can't have 2 kernels running at once. The windows kernel does help by initializing some hardware, but it get completely shut down. Thats why you can't just close out of android and go back to windows. Its not emulated. I've been playing with these android ports for years using haret with many different winmo devices.
Having a faster memory card probably make some difference, too, but again, only with certain tasks. Most things I don't think you'd see a huge speed difference in actual operation.
I think YES !!!
i don't think that an android section would get more people asking for android builds. Especially if you add a sticky in top of the section regarding the progress of android and that it's not finished yet. I think it should be a android development thread only so people that are interested in the development know were to look.
Futhermore i think there should be a good explenation on how to install android and get it working so people can easily try android for themselves and see that it's not nearly opperational yet.
last but not least. there'll always be people asking if android is finished. These people are just too ignorant to recognize how a forum works and read a thread. They are not actually interested in the progress of all the great developers here but just want a quick fix to show of to their friends. They should brick there device and buy an android phone.
don't let the people that are really interested suffer from the ignorant fools.
sorry but i needed to get that of my chest.
that's my opinion,
greets Boris.
I think its getting ridiculous here. Please mods open a new Android HD2 section. There is so much information out there for Android on the HD2 its getting messy in this section. The poll tells you what the people want.

I agree, I think it's the greatest thing in the world to have both winmo and android, the maximum usage and options you can get, because they complete each other... I can't wait to have the stable version of the android to mh HD2
Enjoy, everyone.
It was time!
Hahahahaha, I just love how they put this thread in the android section, i laugh every time i see it
Thanks for adding this new forum ! I always like how XDA staff is listening to their users.
I see a problem about this forum though:
'HD2 Android Development' naming is erroneous for following two reasons:
-Most elementary progress is seated in the kernel - which has nothing to do with android in the first place. The kernel is Linux and not Android.
-Android is not the only userland based on Linux that is available. As seen here there is ubuntu and other stuff.
I therefore vote we rename the forum to 'HD2 Linux and Android development'
I have seen a ubuntu thread already where the user complains he is actually posting in the wrong subforum due to this naming problem.
edit: Find a thread discussing this issue XDA globally see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654560

Hello everyone!
I'm new here, but have been lurking and scouring the forums for a while now. I'm not a dev or anything, so I'm a total noob when it comes to cooking up roms and such... although I've done pleanty of flashing on different devices. I'm treating myself to a new phone as a late birthday present, and the HD2 looks like the best offering at the moment (or anytime soon) from T-Mobile. I just don't want to be stuck with such awesome hardware, running an OS that will be mostly obselete in a few months.
I've read that MS will continue to support WM 6.5, but we all know their deal... it'll be an afterthought once WP7 is released. I would be fine with upgrading to WP7, but unfortunately the HD2 has two too many buttons to meet the HW requirements (according to MS at this point.)
The main thing that makes me believe porting Android would be more plausible, is the upcoming release of the EVO. The hardware is so similar, it's hard for me to believe that it's not possible. Once the EVO is released, could someone use the Android 2.1 image from it, and modify it to run on the HD2? Again, I'm not a programmer, so I'm probably completely wrong... but would love to be proven otherwise.
I'm just looking for some of you with more knowledge and experience to give me some technical insight before dropping $450 on a new phone that will be out-of-date and no longer supported (for the most part) in 6 months. I would also like to keep this thread on topic, so please don't bother slagging the HD2 and suggesting other devices.
Thanks!
and another thread pops up =(
search the forum there are literally tons of threads about this
TONS especially on android
for wp7 there is no news since march 28th announcement so that means nothing more to report than the initial issues had
this is also in the windows phone 7 forum
if you want the phone, get the phone. Winows mobile is a good and highly customizable operating systme on its own and I like it.
you won't regret getting this phone, I sold my nexus one for it, and I don't even miss N1 (simply because it is not the best android phone anymore, HD 2 the best winmo up to date).
I am also a noob, but I encourage myself very often. Now android can run on iphone, what else would stop those geniuses from creating such miracles on HD2. All I have to do is enjoying the phone from the minute I have it, and stick to the forum.
I wouldn't buy the HD2 purely on the speculation of an Android port. There's no certainty that it will ever happen, and if it does, who knows how long it will take.
There are ports for older HTC models and the iPhone, but you have to keep in mind that those handsets have been out for a while, and have had many months, if not years, of development behind them. The HD2 and the snapdragon processor are relatively new, and development is starting from the ground up. It may take up to a year or more before a functional android port is available, and by then, there will more than likely be better hand-sets out there.

Thanks for the reply!
I've actually searched many times, and read tons of threads on this topic. The problem is, most of them are cluttered with TONS of vague info and flaming, with a tidbit of useful info here and there. I was hoping to open some discussion and spark some ideas or interest, maybe try and centralize the info.
Sorry for stepping on any toes, but this is the "T-Mobile USA HD2" general discussion forum, so I figured this would be the best place to start. I just searched the development forum and found a similar thread. I just didn't check there, as I was intending to discuss the possibility and such, not actual developing. Mods, if I'm out of line here, please move or lock this thread appropriately.
Thanks!
Edit- to the other posters, thanks for sharing experiences with me! I wasn't planning on buying the HD2 soley in hopes of porting Android, I guess I'm just looking for reassurance from folks that I'm not getting myself into a device that isn't worth the effort. I love modding my phones, but would rather not be stuck beating a dead horse in a few months. The feedback is greatly appreciated, and makes me feel much better about my decision.

this is true. android on the iphone only works on the iphone 2g as far as i can tell, and that phone is over 4 years old i believe. building linux kernels for a specific phone takes time, and most likely it'll take years to perfect. the ports out now for older winmo phones are useable but obviously not perfect.
i bought my hd2 mainly because it looks like pure sex to me. hehe. windows mobile didnt bother me at all since ive been using windows mobile phones since 2007. dont get me wrong, android is pretty good too. used that for about a year. each os has its own pros and cons i guess.

you wont regret getting this phone. in my opinion htc did a good job with sense, making windows mobile user friendly and whatnot, but if you dont like sense, it can be easily disabled. also the stock rom to me works fine right now but there are a lot of other roms made for the hd2 already so its pretty customizable as is already.

Cool, thanks for the info!
I usually try to keep from modding straight away, but after checking some roms in the development forum, I'm sure I'll start flashing sooner than later, hehe. The main thing I'm liking about the HD2 is it comes stock with the apps I'm most likely to use. I had a 2g iPhone a while back, but found I didn't use most of the apps I installed, and gave it up for a 3g device. Most of what I'm looking for is games/entertainment and themes, and I believe I've found what I'm looking for. If I'm not happy, I may try to cook up something of my own... there's certainly pleanty of resources here to get me started!
Again, I apologize for the redundant thread, but I appreciate all the feedback. This is exactly what I was looking for!

They have been working on porting linux and android to the HD2 for months now. It's not an easy process, as I have stated in the many threads that get started about this. The EVO rom cannot just be ported over. The N1 is just as close hardware wise... they actually used the N1 as a starting point for creating the linux kernel. The Evo may help a little with some drivers.
You have to understand... the kernel for the msm72xx devices (touchpro, TP2, kaiser, etc.) was started over 3 years ago... and they still don't have a fully-functional android port. There will be an android port eventually, but by time theres a fully functional port, there will be many nicer android phones out. Expect it to take a year or more for a fully-functional port, if it's ever FULLY-functional. Search the Rom section in the original Leo section for the official linux project thread.
Get the phone if you like WinMo 6.5. If not, wait for another phone. Trust me, there will be just as nice Android phones for tmobile in the next few months, and WinPhone 7 phones by the end of the year.
I think android is coming to a point on hd2 that we should have a thread

I think we'll get an android section long before theres a flashable rom... it could be years before theres a rom. I think only one other winmo device has an android rom that can be flashed. Personally, I don't see the point in flashing android... I think the great part about these android ports is the fact that you can run WinMo and android on the same device. I don't think flashing even improves performance all that much. If I wanted an android device, I would just buy one. I like running multiple os's on the same device.
The current android port isn't really just an app running on winmo... yes, you run haret, but that shuts down the windows kernel and starts up the linux kernel. Having android flashed on nand will not improve speed or performance very much except the fact that info can be moved to ram from nand a little quicker than it takes for info to be moved from memory card to ram, but that will not make a very noticeable difference. They will also have to get all the components to initialize without winmo before they can make a flashable rom.... that will take time. Like I said, even after years of developers porting android to winmo devices, only 1 or 2 devices have flashable roms out of more than a dozen devices... and none of them really get a performance boost from running it from nand, so I don't see the point.
We will need an android development section before we have a android rom. We're at the point where we should probably get a new section soon, especially once we start getting more devs making android or other linux builds.
is it just a case of brute force ?! if so, are there programmes we can run to help crunch the numbers ?!
I don't know for a fact really, but from what I gathered it's just a choice to do it this way.
The system itself stays in this way untouched.

Give him a break... Imho, this is way better than the 100th thread like "Why can't we flash to Nand, yet, when is it gonna be done?". He obviously doesn't know how it has to be done technically (neither do I, btw) and therefore, he is asking if he/others can help. I don't see why this is so bad.
I am curious myself about what's the "fuzz" behind the whole nand thing, just because it's interesting and because I want to learn new stuff. But because of reactions like yours, I have been afraid to ask anywhere if someone could explain in a couple of sentences what has to be done in order to get Nand access...
NAND does not consider to be an important development for now. But rather focus on stability such as battery, CPU suspend, bugs etc...
But look at how out of control this forum has got, its suppose to be for development read the title.
in very simple terms the nand is what boots our windows mobile operating system. Right now we are launching our android builds through windows mobile on a linux kernel on our sd card. Once we have access to the nand android will become our operating system effectively. This means that when we turn our phone off then on it will be Android windows mobile will cease to exist. There is absolutely nothing us normal people can do riyght now to aid nand development. Cotulla is working on this and will update us with his progress next month. Until then all you need to no is people want nand porting because the Android os Will run quicker and more stable then when on the SD card

I think, this time, the OP was asking specificaly about the NAND's encryption and whether we could help with 'unlocking' that.
I dunno, but I think thats what he meant.
anyway, i dont think this was the usual "when will NAND be ready?" thread.
Maybe his question could even be considered a valid one...if a little vague.

i doubt this'll be of any use but i used to own an ATT Tilt (still do but my lover is in about 4 pieces of mechanical fail). I don't know if the HD2 has locked NAND or if you were looking to just replace Windows with Android (or preferably iOS4 which is clearly superior). I wasn't on Team Edward (or was it Jacob) that made the flashable NAND. I would suggest you ask them.

iOS4 on HD2? is that even theoretically possible?
personally i dont give a donkeys 3rd leg if its possible or even probable. If a i0s4 rom was even thought up for the hd2, i would proceed to run my hd2 over with the heaviest item i could find, and then go buy a nexus, for which no one would even think of making an apple rom
I will point out I was kidding about iOS4 but unfortunately not about my broken Tilt =/
So anyhoo Tilt/Kaiser/Vogue devs got flashable Android on their Windows phones and I posted the link to the guide. I'd track them down (clearly with gps-based superdrones) and ask them for memory addresses, etc. you'd need to pull it off.
Also, I watched kingofyo1 boot an iPhone4 with both hands. I told him "hombre, you don't need both hands" and he made some crass remark about how it felt more natural. Or maybe I just made that up.. could've been g1bricked

Until then all you need to no is people want nand porting because the Android os Will run quicker and more stable then when on the SD card

I totally agree with you that in total, the forum could be much less filled with threads/posts that are not necessary if people actually read some FAQ or such.
But I think you really misunderstood what the OP (and maybe even I) was saying. Thanks for your explanation, but I was hoping for a little bit more of a technical explanation as to why there is no easy Nand access, yet. I am well aware of what it is and what it does (and what the benefits are of running Android from Nand), I was just curious about the underlying process of the "unlocking" (or whatever the correct technical term is). Is there an encryption to be broken, a "file system" to be imitated? Like I said before, I just ask these question because I think it's interesting to know, not in order to push anyone. I bought the HD2 as it is and I'm more than happy with anything that's being done with it
I think the OP was thinking about something like putting together computing resources, since he was talking about BruteForce.
considering i am a iphone owner and apart of there jailbreak community ,
i will honestly say that if this was the iphone forum where people didnt respect the rules , the jailbreak or unlock would never get released ..thats what they wait for , just how we wait for this android on nand , ..and when they do release it takes them months to prepair and maybe longer to create but its ,eaiser for them because there are always beta ios's coming out for them to see what they nedd to do , so ...either which a way ....leave it to the dev's

Ummm....
I'm sorely confused by the shoddy punctuation of your post (?). Something about an Android living on an island called Nand, easier development for iOS (??), and disrespectful Apple forum trolls (???).
-------------------
Stripping Windows Mobile off the HD2 would be cool, but if you don't wan't Windows Mobile, why would you buy the highest end phone offered that has it? It would have been more logical to buy one of the dozens of Android phones on the market.

[Q] Simple question - NAND & Android on HD2 - Why we still cannot get working NAND v.
Well, my question is simple :
Why we still dont have NAND version of Android ?
Is it problem with .... drivers or anything else ?
Please tell me what is the problem. Why its so hard to develop working NAND Rom ?
screen orentation sensor makes the screen lag ... and there are still some major bugs
Why is there so much craving for a NAND version?
What's wrong with having Android running from the SDcard?
As long as that still doesn't function 100% (screen/g sensor/footprints in sense etc..), why would you want to have a Nand version? I doubt that that will actually change anything.

I guess the myth is if it's NAND then battery will be better which I really doubt.
Sorry but it's not an answer.
Many people want to have Nand version and it's their choice , but
it could be a good idea to tell us why there is so many problems
to create this kind of rom.
What parts are missing ....
What needs to be compiled ...
What to repaired...
Need some tech informations about this .
Who knows , many people is to busy to try create whole rom , but
there is many of us who knows programming and could Help .
But if someone will tell us what is a biggest problem ...
Linux was creating by many people , so maybe this time we can find solution together ?
Do a search!
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
So what if i will use search.
I will get 2,000 posts with small ammount of answers.
Will be easier if any dev will completly with details
answer this question.
It will stop another 2,000 posts to occur .
Many questions - one answer.
It isn't working because only a handful are working on it while the rest whine and think a lame post begging for an eta will motivate the devs. If you want it done pick up a book and start learning about linux coding. It isn't done yet because nobody tries on their own.
Just because the initial development was lightning quick doesn't guarantee it will all tidily come together at the same rate.
Do you remember what appeared on your HD2 when you first turned it on? Windoze f'ing mobile. Be grateful for what you have.
To motivate the coders even a bit more you could create a "Who will be the 1st Android NAND coder" thread where users can donate cash for the price money.
The 1st coder who does so will win the cash.
Me.. I've donated cash already to some of the coders here, and I can wait till we have a stable good working version.

You know ... it could be a great idea .
If someone trusted will keep grand prize for this so why not ???
First person that will make a working rom will get a BIG PRIZE ....
might work .
After testing, if we see that it really works ....
I could donate if someone will start something like this.
I don't know how fair it would be to say the first to make an android would get the prize... Most likely it will be a cook making the rom using the work of many developers. It will be the same group of devs that got android working in the first place that will get it working on nand.... Dcordes, cotulla, netripper, etc... Might as well just donate. I'm sure it will be a group effort by them.
Nand is difficult because we will need a lot of new drivers to initialize the hardware... Right now winmo is used to initialize most hardware for android. I don't understand why you think it shouldn't be difficult... Look at other winmo devices that can run android... Only 2 out of a dozen can even boot from nand... And the nand versions are less functional than the versions run from sd card. It takes a LOT more work to get everything working on its own from nand without winmo to initialize hardware. I would expect the same with the first versions of nand booting for the hd2 also.... It will probably be nowhere near as functional as booting from sd until a lot of development is done. Be patient... It could be a long time before we have a nand bootable android that's anywhere as stable and functional as the sd bootable builds we currently have. I also doubt that speed or battery life will be much better with nand, if at all. We have great speed & batteries with our sd versions already... It will be hard to beat that with new nand versions, especially since many drivers for nand will probably have to be made from scratch. But you never know... We have some great devs and I've already been surprised with what they've accomplished.

I guess you'll have to wait until the day you hire your own Android HD2 developer, then you can have them working on things that -you- want.
seriously, I'm not being sarcastic. I'm actually pondering about creating some sort of donations thread just to fix particular problems.
But, because this is a community driven effort, we are at the mercy of whatever developers/chefs want to have. If you don't like that, you may want to consider becoming a developer/chef yourself..

I'm actually quite happy with my HD2 running off of SD... It's actually faster than WM 6.5! Everything I have tested works including hotspot. Running mccm 1.5 with chuckydroid ROM
And I have the best of both worlds...Android and WM 6.5!
i was wondering how everybody feels about switching the two oss...place wimo on the sd and run android from nand...so you still have both. because from what ive been reading, having both oss on the nand is out of the question, unless you have a us hd2 that has more internal memory....just a thought

There is no android app to shut down android and launch windows kernel, so that possibility is very far away if it's even possible. First they would need to get android booting off nand, which is a ways off, then a haret type app would need to be written for android that can launch the window ce kernel, which may be very difficult because windows is not open sourced, and then a version of winmo that will work with that will need to be developed.
I don't see this as being very likely to happen. If you want nand android, you're going to lose winmo.
Personally, I don't see why everyone wants to boot android from nand... It works so well from sd and you get to run multiple os on your phone. And looking at the history of nand booting android on winmo phones, the nand versions are usually less functional and don't really improve speed or battery that much. Doesn't seem worth it to change a multiple os superphone into a subpar android-only phone. But that's just me.

I guess the simple question would be why? What do you gain from that setup compared to what we have today? You'd still get 2 OSes, but with a -lot- more work I presume.
right?

I completely understand. footprint works on sense
i prefere sd card over nand ,easy switch between roms ,ihave 4 different roms on my sd card
Aaaah I hear you say, another one, it's about time, welcome to the dark side, etc etc... Yeah yeah I know, it's about time I went from WM6.5 to Android.
Reasons why I stayed with Windows ? I liked the sync between MsOutlook and my device using USB and NOT "the cloud". Sadly the new versions of Windows (7 and 8) don't allow this anymore so I reluctantly joined "the cloud" (Google Apps for Education, it's free).
Now, I am ready to switch to Android, but, ... which version ? which ROM ? how does it install ? straightfoward ?
Can anyone recommend a good ROM that :
- contains HTC Sense
- is fast
- is easy to install (go easy guys, I work, live and breathe Msoft, it's my job, yeah I know, but it pays the bills)
- is in English
- is up-to-date
- is free
Thanks very much.
PS : I'd rather keep my history (SMS mostly) as they contain a lot of info, so far I've used PPCPimBackup, does that work cross-platform ?
Boags.
if you still want to keep WM you can boot Android within it, there are many tutorials around here, also be careful if your using a tmobile verions a wrong radio culd brick your phone.
here's one that you could try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986437
or check out the links below if you want to even multi boot your phone

Thanks, I'm happy just formatting WM6, no dual boot.
It's not a Tmobile it was bought without a plan or anything so I'm pretty free in that regard.
Any suggestion for a "clean install" ROM ?
I'm pretty sure nobody's thinking 'it's about time, welcome to the dark side' but more along the lines of 'oh FFS, another thread asking about the best ROM and how to install it'. If you'd have searched, you'd have found a few hundred threads exactly like this, and multiple guides on installing Android.
Anyway, try the guide in my sig for an easy installation process (also read the new user guide too). Nobody can tell you the best ROM (that's entirely subjective) or a 'fast' Sense based ROM (well at least not in my opinion).

AFAIK Sense is a bit slow in Android on the HD2, and other options are better, try them and judge for yourself.
As for SMS, this is what I used when I made the switch long time ago, and it worked smoothly.

Aah, thanks for that constructive input, I thought Sense was HTC's best stuff, I'll try your ROM and let you know.:good:
Boags.
If you want a rom you can customize visually, try MIUI. It has a tons of themes so you won't get bored easily, it even has an HTC sense theme. If not try one of the CM builds. Gingerbread roms are more stable but if you want the newer android features like Google Now and some new apps do require ICS+ go for one of the ICS or Jellybean builds. If i were you i'd just try a few roms before completely settling on one and installing all your data etc.
OKay thank you both for your help. I managed to install "Nexus JellyBean" on my HD2... It wasn't as straightforward as I'd hope (there are a lot of prerequisites to Android, it's not just next-next-next you're done but anyways).
So yeah it runs, everything works, but there's a bit "but". It's slow as hell. And I mean sluggishly slow. I've only connected to Gmail, Hotmail and Facebook. Nothing else. No GPS, no WiFi, nothing.
A test : on the main screen, open Gmail. Wait for four seconds for the emails to be displayed. Close Gmail (there is no "close" application in fact, once it's opened, it stays as an open process and runs in the background). Open "Internet" and wait for ten seconds for google.com to be opened (either on Wifi or on 3G). Go back to the main screen takes forever again, then open Gmail again, wait for another five seconds, etc etc etc.
Seriously, it's bloody awful.
So, maybe it's because the HD2 wasn't meant to run on Android and I'd be better off with WM65, or maybe this build of Android isn't the fastest I can find, but then, can anyone tell me what build I should be running ? There seems to be so freaking many available it's no wonder "noobs" like me ask silly questions "which is best"..
I just booted the HD2, went to Settings/Apps/RAM : 235used and 174free... And I haven't even started using any apps...
So far then, not convinced...
I won't get into the details bec theres already tons of threads about it but
Have you flashed a new radio that unlocks the HD2 ram to 512mb?
As I said, Gingerbread roms are the most stable and fastest so I suggest you go for one of them. ICS & Jelly roms aren't 100% there yet.
I'd suggest installing on nand with data on EXT partition if your SD card isn't that fast.
Txs, i don't know, I thought I had it flashed under WM65 :
NexusHD2
Android 4.1.2
Baseband 15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14
Kernel 2.6.32.tytung_jellybean_r1
CPU ARMv7
Mem 410mb
Cyanogen 10.0.0-leo
Build date 07/12/2012
Build nr JZ054K (NexusHD2-JellyBean v1.3a) [DataOnExt]
None of these mean much to me, I'm still learning

1. He must have a .50 radio if he's successfully running NAND Android.
2. It unlocks 576MB of RAM, not 512.
@OP, Either go for GB or basically learn to live with it if you want the latest and greatest Android version. GB will be faster and more stable for daily use BUT won't have HWA so you won't have anywhere near as smooth an experience in web browsing and gaming. For your own sake don't go for a Sense ROM, they're just as 'slow' as JB or ICS. MIUI and CM7 are both great, I personally prefer CM but it's really down to your preference. Try them both then make a decision. CM has less eye candy and is far less iOS like but both are fast.
Okay thanks, slowly learning the "language"
Currently dowloading "Gingerbread" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905060) and wiping "JellyBean"... (the guy who finds these names should get a job at the place where they name tropical cyclones:laugh
Keep you posted.
If you need any help with 'learning the language' check the guide in my sig which says 'A guide to all of the terms for the HD2'. It makes things pretty simple, and definitely helped me quite a lot the first time round.
So I "downgraded" from Jellybean to Gingerbread and though it's not superfast it's a lot better.
How can I tell my radio is the version that "unleashes" the max RAM ? I recall it was the latest available on WM65...
Any "tweaks" to make it faster ? A few apps often hang for a couple of seconds before they're available...
Still, it's a pretty cool platform I must agree, a shame Msoft never could be as good. Haven't seen the new WM though...
Thanks for all your help, and have a great 2013 !:good:
Don't worry, you definitely have a compatible radio version. The guy who posted about the RAM thing earlier was basically just spamming for 10 posts.
Not to confuse you, but if you want speed, stability and functionality and don't use many apps then Windows Phone may actually be the way to go. There are obviously some apps which simply aren't available on Windows Phone yet including huge ones like Instagram and (I think) Temple Run but the OS is really wonderful to use and beats Android in terms of fluidity.
Anyway, congrats on flashing and sorry about the rudeness of my first post in this thread

Sweet, so this is as best as it will ever get I suppose. Not a LOT slower than WM65 in reality, just a tad. Loads more potential tho, with the widgets and apps and stuff out there. I'll keep it simple anyways.
Still, you're probably the only person who, though a true Linux-Android fan, has publicly admitted Microsoft does it better, well in some occasions anyways : speed and stability is what most "professional" crowd need (a smartphone that does push-email, sync their contacts database and calendar with whatever server they're using, with the occasional websurfing, facebooking, tweeting or linkedin-ing).
Having worked with Msoft for over 15 years now, I had to try Android to at least understand what the fuss was all about, well I've seen it. I'll keep it for now, but I'm not convinced I won't switch back to WM one day.
I tried NeXTstep and BeOS once, loved them both as they were way ahead of their times, but sadly they could never been used as a professional tool. I think I can say the same for Android...
PS @Nigeldg, don't sweat it bro. No offence taken.
Yeah I think people often make the mistake of assuming that all fans of one thing simply hate the alternative, which often isn't true. Different things suit different people, I'd definitely recommend an iOS or Windows Phone to my Mum for example over an Android phone because they're more simple. I can only really respect someone's opinion when they know that there are always arguments for and against a certain point, if they don't then there's really very little valid input they can make in any discussion.
Also, I don't think you should really judge Android by your experience with the HD2, that would be like making a decision between a PS3 and an Xbox based on having played Viva Pinata on the Xbox and Killzone on the PS3. Android is a very nice OS and you really need the hardware to appreciate it. Having used Android on a GNex and a Nexus 4 (which I'm still waiting to order ) I can safely say it's now as smooth as iOS and Windows Phone if you get a decent phone.
Hi,
why don't you use WM6.x and Android on the same phone (via dualboot/tripleboot/...)? You can use the advantages of both OS and only need to wait 1 min. to boot the other one... see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33988958
I use different Android-Versions, because no version can all I need... and I use WM, because I have some great payed apps... it's great...
Cheers Klaus

I don't want dual boot because I'm not looking for one solution, this exercise was just to test if a) I was able to do it, b) Android has what I need.
The answer is yes for the first questions (with help), but the second question has mixed results. Yes it runs, and yes I can do what I was doing on WM, but nothing more. Which leads me to my next question when I do decide to replace the HD2 by a new phone (because I need 4G and because I like new things, don't we all) : will I buy an Android or a Windows-based phone ?
My next challenge would be to test an iPhone
