Please help..wanna change language on wizard

Please help me, i wanna buy an HTC wizard from my friend,But I'ts in chinese, and i want to change it to english...since i can't read chinese..
is there any way to change the language?
and what if i flash it to wm6, i automatically change it to english?
oh yeah, my friend only got the PDA And the Charger, so i get it quite cheap,what other accesories do i need for flash the Htc?Do i need an cradle?or just regular USB Cable?..

A USB cable will work. You need MS ActiveSync to flash. You can change the language but...that comes with a whole bunch of headaches. If you want to flash follow the instructions in the tutorial link in my sig. (Even if you think you "know" something, just save yourself big headaches and follow the instructions.) Flashing it to the ROMs discussed here will give you a device with english (99% of the ROMs that is).

Upgrading for newbie

I have installed a lot of crap on my pharos, removed some of it, but now its slow and drains the battery
So I was thinking; why not upgrade to Poldo's 6.1 rom? Only thing I don't quite know how to... After a lot of reading this is how I think I should do it - please correct me if I'm wrong!
1. Contacts and mail are synced with my computer, but not my sms' - how can I copy mys sms' to my computer?
2. Since my Pharos has Norwegian wm6, I'd like to be able to restore them if I don't like 6.1. The best way to backup my wm6 will be to do a hard reset (to rid of all clutter) and then follow this thread: Dumping a ROM from pharos. Raw to nbh? -> ESN & ITA original ROMs here Correct?
3. In order to flash a new rom I must sspl or whatever that may be..? Instructions in this thread: [SSPL & USPL] Flash any ROM to your Pharos Correct?
4. My phone should then be ready for upgrading and as far as I can see there are two roms available from Poldo964 and one from tom_codon. Which one of them is best? (by best I would prefer it to be fast and not drain battery fast).
5. How do I flash the new rom? do I need to "format" the phone first, or can I just flash the new rom like installing any other program?
5. Since the roms are WWE English I need a Norwegian keybord layout (containing letters æ,ø and å), and Norwegian dictionary (XT9?). Will this work? (26/06-08) HTC Diamond keyboards Final update If not; is there a norwegian keyboard and xt9 I could use out there?
As far as I understand it, this is the way to go, but I need confirmation/correction so i don't end up with a paperweight.
Or... Is there someone in here who could cook a Norwegian 6.1 rom?

even if you brick your phone you can send it in for repairs to HTC but they will tell you that (by flashing) you voided your warranty and will charge you for the repair.
at least thats what i have understood, maybe a more experienced user can comment on that.

I suppose so, and that was the reason I wrote this post; to avoid bricking, and to be sure I'm doing things right - I struggeled 2 nights with this animated weather panel etc before I gave up

why don't you just do the hard reset, without flashing a new ROM? I personally wouldn't flash the phone without enough knowledge or a person by my side who knows what to do... I still hope HTC by themself bring a ROM update, for all the languages
Other Question - on my pharos, TomTom was pre-installed. [bought it from a friend] - if I play another ROM on it - TomTom would be lost? - The problem is, my friend lost the activation code for the tomtom ^^

I Hav tt6 preinstalled, but I still have my activation code. I guess this will not cause me any problems..?

For tomtom activation, the activation "file" is on the memory card, so you won't lose it. Also, if you have the tomtom card included with the pharos package, you can request it again.

1. To backup sms take a look here, PIM backup -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
2. A hardreset doesn't restore your original rom, you have to dump it before flashing it, you can find how to do it in that thread
3. You will need a unlocked CID, the best way is USPL/Hard SPL
4. It is personal, I prefer poldo ones, but you can try the two.
5. Connect throught activesync and follow the pc application
6. That diamond keyboard is only a skin, sorry no idea about this, maybe resco keyboard?

A few questions still before I start...
2. If I dump the rom, and reflash it, do I then get a clean rom? Or is there another way of restoring the original rom?
What can go wrong in the process, and what are the consequences?

If you reflash your dumped rom, you will get your pda like it came to you, with all the original OEM apps like camera album, tomtom...
If the process have any error, you will have to reflash it in bootloader mode, so it's better to use hard SPL

I did a hard reset, installed HHC and pocket cm. Now it works wery well, and I think i'll wait with upgrading. Thanks for help anyway

experiment with an ELF

I just adquired an HD Touch and now I want to try some things with my old Elf
I have a spanish Vodafone´s Elf, I made a sim unlock, a cid unlock but now I want to install a "standard" ROM, without any sign of Vodafone but I´m not sure of the steps I must take because everything is too new for me.
Can anyone say me the steps to take please? Thanks for read and believe me, I used the "search" of the website but the list of new terms is really huge for me and I don´t want to make a brick in the firsts attemps

[Q] Flashing issues with HTC clones

Hi everyone,
i bought some days ago a HTC clone which appear to be a T3232 (but i'm not sure due to my inexpertize, u can check here btw dealextreme[dot]com/details.dx/sku.25045 ) with win mobile 6.1, i'd like to change the OS to 6.5, so i was looking for infos... according with the forum of that site, seems that ppl was able to flash his rom, and after some research i found this site.
Now, i'm very noob about that stuff, so before proceed, i need that some expert check my following steps, and correct them when wrong:
Reading some noobies how-to and guides, seems that i have to:
1) download the Hard-SPL here for let my rom be 'flashed' showthread.php?t=483465
2) download the exact ROM for my model, i found this: showthread.php?t=554874 is a bit old but seems working fine, is it ok? or can u suggest other roms? (since i'm italian i would appreciate more an italian language pack ) I also found this but i don't think is featured for my phone showthread.php?t=713809 did it?
3) how can i see the screen with boot infos (i tryed to push switch off the cellph. push the volume down and turn on holding the volume down, but doesn't work)
4) is there something else i should know?

No problems, you are welcome.
Android? NO! First you must be sure that you have the original ROM. you must do at least once a flash STOCK ROM Win-Mobile. Only when you know it, move on to the Android.

How to find my original ROM?
A Stock ROM is the phone's operating system (OS) that comes with your phone when you buy it.
A Stock ROM loock like: RUU_Photon_HTC_Europe_1.36.401.1_Radio_Signed_32.2 803.05.06_0.63.05.36_Ship.exe is a complete software package released by HTC, it contain thingslike Radio, ROM, bootloader, etc... all in one exe.
Go to phone - start - settings-phone info-Software info. Now you know which ROM you should search.

A Custom ROM is a modifyed version of the OS.For you now is not interesting, and do not try custom ROMs for now. What you need is the original ROM, so that if the problem happens with Android, you could come back to Win-Mo.

Difference between an android and windows mobile - is huge. What you personally prefer? you must to know.
I will help you to try one android port for photon ...Android porting is already 2 years or more in development and not yet finished (means that it contains bugs and some parts or components do not work, for example GPS, BT, CAM, SOUND etc.) and I have no idea when it might be finished, hopefully soon, but that's just my hope ...

The second one is branded by Vodafone UK for his customers and has a newer radio version.
I see you have the latest radio 0.63.05.41. IMO, the radio version from windows is most important for android.
