Bricked HD2 - HD2 General

Good Day to all.
Apparently I have bricked my HD2. I have a TMO US version, installed 2.08 and then the rom. Installed a TMO UK version of 1.43 and now the phone will not even turn on. Any way to fix this prob? When I plug into computer or wall charger you can hear it connect, but no red light or activitiy whatsoever. Is it totally dead or is there a way to bring this back to life? Thanks for your help in advance.

U have HardSPL ur TMOUS and the installed a custom ROM and then u changed to UK version of 1.43? If i understand u correct?
Afraid to say that but think u just got a pricey paperweight. Sorry Bro

I installed HSPL 2.08 Then I attempted to install a TMO UK rom version 1.43 Phone went black and haven't been able to get any activity out of it since.

yep its a paperweight... btw why did you install a uk version rom? its a known fact that it may brick your phone.. call tmo and get a replacement if you can.. sorry bro i feel your pain!

theres no 'may' about it. Any ANY official rom, except the tmous official roms will always brick a tmous. Its the included radio that does the damage.

Help! Beginner Here! HTC HD2 on T-Mobile UK

Hi guys
Hoping someone would be kind enough to take the time out to answer some questions I have regarding my HD2 on T-Mobile UK and how I go about modifying it etc
Please bare with me....this is the first smartphone ive ever had and am totally new to all of this! :S
1) Does the fact that its locked to T-Mobile (and has some form of their own software on it) mean I am unable to make use of the many updates or software tweaks that appear on this site?
2) I see people talking about Manilla...is this the software HTC place on top on WM6.5?
3) I see a lot of people talking about flashing their ROMs....what does this actually mean? Is it possible for me to get rid of all T-mobile crap on my phone and be able to apply updates, fixes etc whenever I want?
4) I know of some people who have Jailbreak their iPhone allowing them to run loadsa different software on it etc....is something similar possible on the HD2?
5) Basically it all comes down to the fact that I dont like the basic taskbar look on my phone (really want a colourfull taskbar and some form of % battery indicator) and want to make it look a bit more modern/exciting....and Ive seen loadsa uploads on this site about other users homescreens etc and want to know how i go about doing that? Im not sure if having a T-Mobile HD2 will stop me from modifying it in that way?
Would really appreciate any help/advice anyone is willing to give.....the site seems very oriented to people who know what they're doing lol and im struggling to find a section for novice users like myself! I really like that idea of having a phone I can customise whenever I like.....just not sure at all of how to start going about it......
Cheers!!!

The fact that it's locked to T-Mobile doesn't affect the majority of software on here. Sometimes, there'll be discrepancies between what's expected on your phone, and what's actually on your phone. This will be rare, and usually resolved on here anyway.

Yes - Manila is the Sense UI.

Flashing the ROM changes the core of the phone. It's often done to do exactly what you said - to get rid of the software that's there by default, but you don't want it. Another more common reason for ROM flashing, is ROM updates that include software fixes (as just happened with 1.48), or windows updates.
4) I know of some people who have Jailbreak their iPhone allowing them to run loadsa different software on it etc....is something similar possible on the HD2?

You don't need to "jailbreak" windows mobile. Question 3 covers this really.

Having a T-Mobile phone won't stop you changing that at all. Just get used to these forums and searching them and you'll find most things you need. There's certainly taskbars on here. You're better off looking in either the root Leo forum (one step above this forum), or the themes and apps one. Also, the Sense UI has a lot of mods in other forums. The Blackstone, for example, had the Sense UI available in a ROM way before the HD2 was released, so that's also a good source of information.
Just keep reading and you'll be fine. We were all new here once
Have fun!
Thanks very much!! appreciate it!

just wondering why I wouldnt want to apply ROM updates and windows updates? would it not be better to do this than wait for official updates from T-Mobile that will prob take forever to emerge?
I've seen on some forums that there is already an official (yet not appearing on the HTC site) HD2 ROM upgrade....but are you saying you advise against this? Or are u saying I dont want to change the core of the phone....but applying updates etc is still possible?
Sorry, excuse my ignorance!
Cheers
I don't understand why you think I'm advising against ROM updates, but I'm not
Basically, it's up to you to weigh up whether or not you want to do a ROM update by looking at what's new and what's removed (if anything).
As far as waiting for T-Mobile to release their own version of the ROM.... yeah, you're right. I wouldn't bother.
I've just updated my HD2 with the 1.48 release, and it's a LOT faster. It's still new though, and a couple of issues have already been found. It's always "at your own risk" whenever you flash the ROM or install mods.
can i ask you what come in the box with tmobile handset, carry pouch? micro sd? an such. and did you get it from tmobile themselves or a phone outlet like carphonewarehouse, thanks in advance

hi....sure! no probs...
i got the handset (obviously lol) charger and micro usb lead (which is quite short and frustrating actually) also got a 2gb micro sd card! There was no pouch - although as far as I am aware HTC supply a pouch...which t-mobile (and all other networks as far as im aware) remove....to force u to buy one! So i bought the official HTC leather one online for £10 - which is quite nice!
I just walked into a t-mobile store in glasgow and asked for the phone...and they had it! i had been arguing all week on the phone with t-mobile upgrades and retentions.....they wanted to charge me £380 upgrade charge as i have a 50% line reduction.......but when i walked into the store they done it for me for £50!!! and kept my discount!!!! so now i get 1000mins, unlimited txts and internet for £20 a month! if ur looking for the phone and dont get quoted a good deal keep shopping....there's always someone willing to do a good deal!
happy times all round!

Sorry - you're absolutely right. You can't upgrade with that ROM. The experts on here are working on something called "Hard SPL" which basically allows you to flash any old ROM you want, regardless of your ROM version at the time.
The ROM that's bouncing round at the moment is an official HTC one, and can only be used on phones that aren't locked to providers.
Since it's a new phone, I'd recommend getting used to it and the available mods on here. You don't need to be able to flash the ROM to install most of the mods, so you can still tweak your phone like mad!

I'll have a play around with some of the mods on the site and try get it looking much sweeter!lol

hi thanks for quick reply
am glad you get micro sd, they could of threw the pouch in too LOL, oh well suppose its not that expensive. (know what you mean bout charger cable, same with diamond2 lol) i`m with orange at the mo there not releasing the phone on there network at all i dont think, got my diamond2 from carphone warehouse 10 months ago. its been put in for repair 2 times already due to touch screen failure, last time i put it in it got sent to htc who declared the warrenty void because of certain applications on the phone and have demanded £70 to fix even though i pay insurance every month. decided am not paying gonna cancel direct debit as it was nothing to do with software why i put it in, in the 1st place, think its ridiculous! i`d flashed a cooked rom on my phone and unblocked it with hard spl, i reflashed original htc rom before putting it in the shop but forgot to reblock my phone again, thats what they mean by CERTAIN APPLICATIONS. so beware if flashing your device with non htc rom and you have to claim on insurance for anything, you have to reflash everything back to original htc factory software/roms. to be honest hard spl(unblocking programme to flash any rom) is not out there yet for hd2, i dont think. but just a little tip for you..
by the way lol, i cant seem to get my hands on a hd2 anywhere, there like rocking horse sh#t!! lol am getting really bored watching videos about the device on pocketnow.com now tho Grrrrrrrrrrrrr lol i NEED one soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
just had an email from tmobile, apparently its on its way!!!!!!!!! yaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Erm you can flash the newly "released" Official HTC WWE ROM using the goldcard method. I did so on my T-Mobile HD2. The benefit of doing so is to regain the applications T-Mobile removed like You-Tube, CoPilot trial and Jetcet print. Also you get the advantage of being able to flash future patches directly from HTC, instead of waiting for T-mobile to get their hands on them and break it.

Hey buddy, did you manage to flash your rom then?
Like you I'm very new to this scene (coming from an iphone) so just wanted to know if you had successfully flashed your rom. Which rom did you use because I can see a lot of different versions of this 1.48 and don't know which one to use.
Surely if you flash your rom and it shows the youtube app as well as copilot, tmobile will void your warranty wont they???

not sure regarding the warranty issue....id think so....tho if i had to send it in for repair (touch wood i wont) then id just restore it back to its original version 1st....

Anyway of reverting back to stock rom?

Just a quick one.
I updated my o2 locked hd2 to 1.48 fw. Is there anyway of reverting back to the stock rom that the hd2 came with? (o2 one complete with o2 splash screen etc)
Or is it the point of no return now?

I would assume you can use the same method you used to upgrade your rom (goldcard?) to downgrade it back to the original rom if you need to.

Just want another handset. I have no real complaints with the HD2 but i just havent got the time these days to mess and tweak with the phone to get it how i want it. (got a 6 week baby girl here taking up all my time)
I came from an iphone and i primarily used that for web, media and plenty of texting. I didnt really use the app store that much.
In the above areas the HD2 just doesnt cut it for me. Web, sms and media are just far better on the iphone imo. Everything else about the hd2 is fantastic and im glad i got it to experience winmo but at the end of the day for my needs i'll prob just go back to the iphone or perhaps get an android device!

So is there any chance of doing that?

I know that wont put my o2 branding back on it. What you reckon? Revert back to 1.43 send it back to o2 and then play dumb if they try and say ive messed with it? Like (to o2 rep) "mine never had a splash screen on startup, so ive no idea why you would accuse me of altering the device"
have to say i`v been toying with the idea of flashing my phone with upgrade using the goldcard method(i`m on tmobile stock 1.43) due to tmobile removing certain apps on the phone, but keep hearing a lot of problems with 1.48. isnt an upgrade supposed to improve things not make things worse??? lol i have absolutely no major issues with the tmobile stock rom. to be honest it runs flawlessly and smoothly. the only issue i`v had is the pinkish colour on camera but with the hotfix its solved. also i havent read alot of problems coming from people on tmobile either. are the guys behind the scenes doing the testing an tweaking/branding at tmobile on top of ther job maybe?????... Mmmmmmmm. obviously ther seems to be certain issues with the phone that are out of tmobiles hands, i just havent heard many tmobile customers complaining about much, the youtube app yeah, but thats about it. anyways think i`l be leaving upgrade for now lol. if something isnt broke, why fix it?

Stick to the T-Mobile USA HD2 ROM section and you should be fine.
Unfortunately, the MTTY method will not work for this problem. The OP can't even boot up his phone, so they will never reach bootloader, which is required for the MTTY fix.
To the OP:
You have three choices now
Take the phone to the nearest T-Mobile location and ask them for assistance. They should be able to help you get a replacement phone faster than calling the help desk. Since the phone does not power on, they will not be able to discover the warranty-voiding changes you made by flashing HSPL.
Log into to mytmobile.com and report the phone as missing. They will ask for a police report number, since they are assuming the phone was taken. This only works if you toss the phone and sim card in the trash. If it turns up somewhere, it can be traced back to you and the person found with it could be charged with theft.
Sell the brick on eBay. I know of at least one person on here looking for a replacement screen, so that could be one way of getting a little bit of a return back.
I realize that those are not the choices you were hoping to read, but I am afraid that they are the only ones open to you. Whatever you do, be sure to rescue your 16GB microSD card beforehand, it may be class 2 but it is still expensive to replace.

bricked tmo hd2 after flashing a radio. anyway to bring this thing back to life?

i flashed a radio from the tmo hd2 radio thread. but it's an older radio (2.05.50.11) i' ve tried like 5 different radios and the oldest one (Leo RADIO 2.07.50.27_2) seemed to work the best so i tried Leo RADIO 2.05.50.11 to see if i can get better results but it didn't boot back up. anyone with any ideas?

Ouch. I'm still new around but if I remember correctly, 2.07 is the lowest version of Radio you can flash in your 1024 Leo (although most people you recommend that you run 2.08 and above instead). You should have read this thread as many times as you needed to understand everything because making a mistake will cost you a lot of time, trouble and money. I can only hope that T-Mobile will let you get a new one by making some excuse like "It failed to update and look what I got!".
actually i tried 2.06 and it was fine which is why i decided to try 2.05

Sounds like you wanted to brick it. They say 2.07 is the safest and anything below that is risking you brick your phone. Your out of luck. If you have HSPL i wouldn't go in for a warranty exchange as they will possibly see it once upon recieving it. So better hope you have insurance.

Yeah just call up insruance or go online and sumbit a claim. Just say it is broken on the claim. Most people will say to say you lost it but most people don't understand that insurance is not the same thing as warranty as they will replace it even if you tampered with it.
Sorry to hear but yeah if others were reporting the same thing as you were it prob wasn't the best idea? TMOUS HD2 is so much easier to brick than the International HD2.

but i have hspl and a custom rom on there. is there any way they can check that and deny my warranty and or insurance claim?
Probably not, but just in case I'd say it was lost...if it were me that is.
Sorry to hear its dead, but i must say its very strange that a tmous radio killed a tmous.
It certainly changes the ideas as to why radios kill tmous phones. We assumed it was because the 51 radios couldn't access the extended rom/ram, however this was a 50 radio, from a tmous rom, so it should be able to see the rom/ram fine.
No explanation, very strange. I'd be almost inclined to think someone packed a 51 radio into a 50 filename.
Dont file an insurance claim, thats a horrible idea. Call tmobiles customer care and tell them your phone wont boot up. They will send you a replacement phone and you send the broken one back. Its doubtful they will check it but if they do and charge you its only $110 instead of the $130 through insurance.
Edit: Are you able to boot into the bootloader or will the phone not turn on at all? If you can boot into the bootloader then its not bricked.
I havent flashed my hd2 after reading all the people briking their phones.

You shouldn't have to worry about trusted and tested ROMs/Radios. Unless you do something horribly wrong, you'll be fine. It's when you experiment with stuff that you get into trouble. Just tread the beaten path and you'll be fine
Flashing your phone is like skydiving; it's fun, it can be completely safe, but there will always be some risk (especially for the inexperienced).

boot into bootloader, and there is a line that starts 'spl '.
The number following that is your spl.
If it ends .0000 then it is stock. Example 2.08.0000 or 2.10.0000
If it ends .hspl then it is hspl. It will also say cotulla on screen too. Example 2.08.hspl

Hey, first sorry for my bad english..
So. i watched this video
youtube.com/watch?v=Nac3Fnf-lY4 // prevent spam -.-"
and there seems to be something with a 1024 and 512 leo. Where is the difference and where can i see which my phone is?
"This is to avoid people with 1024LEO's installing an incompatable version and bricking their device*"

so im a little bit afraid of installing wm7.. and ive read something about a battery bug? can it happend that my phone can not be charged anymore (and is also bricked in a way?)
And there seems to be also something with a t-mobile1024 leo version/ danger to brick it while updating to wm7?
So my questions are: Where can i see which leo i have and are there still this energy problems?
PS: saw that it have something to do with the region also... i bought my htc hd2 in a shop (not t-mobile) for the full price, europe, germany

from within WM6.5 - go to Settings, System, Device Information, Hardware Information and look at the Flash Size.
WP7 can be installed on both LEO512 & LEO1024. Difference is it will only use 512 of the 1024M when you flash the rom.
If you follow THIS post and THIS post, you should be able to load WP7 on your HD2 without problem. Make sure you follow the directions, many people get excited and skip steps.
Before you start you must have HardSPL and magldr v1.12.
Good Luck!!
ah ok.. i first thought that it has maybe something to do with the cpu, not the flash memory
i looked it up and i have 512mb of flash memory
thank you for your quick awnser, i will follow ur advices
thank you
If it is from Germany it may be the European Leo, with the white buttons, not the red and green like the American brother.
is the a difference between the eu and us leos except the button color? or why is it mentioned sometimes?
offtopic: why are here so many people from romain?

main difference is the rom size. US 1024M and EU 512M. it is mentioned so you dont try and load something bigger than the phone can handle. WP7 works fine with both versions.

Are you sure it is not the ROM size 1024MB?
so im installed all and it seems to work fine, but what is with the energy bug? is he still existing? what happends if my battery gets to zero? cant i reload it, or what is now exactly with it?

you are correct. ROM. typo
is there still the energy bug?
Yes the bug is still there.
there is a thread were someone says he found a solution for this problem, but i do not think it is working(remove the battery and put it back). This will work only if the battery has some more power in it. If not..
For now the smart thing is to not let you phone die,or to have a external battery charger.
omfg! i thought i would be there any more and now!!
i want to rebot my phone and it didnt start! after i installed wm7 without problems. it was fully charged, what shall i do now?
it was full some minutes ago, i shut it down, want to restart but it stays black, nothing happens, what now? (
i get crazy
