Help! Beginner Here! HTC HD2 on T-Mobile UK - HD2 General

Hi guys
Hoping someone would be kind enough to take the time out to answer some questions I have regarding my HD2 on T-Mobile UK and how I go about modifying it etc
Please bare with me....this is the first smartphone ive ever had and am totally new to all of this! :S
1) Does the fact that its locked to T-Mobile (and has some form of their own software on it) mean I am unable to make use of the many updates or software tweaks that appear on this site?
2) I see people talking about Manilla...is this the software HTC place on top on WM6.5?
3) I see a lot of people talking about flashing their ROMs....what does this actually mean? Is it possible for me to get rid of all T-mobile crap on my phone and be able to apply updates, fixes etc whenever I want?
4) I know of some people who have Jailbreak their iPhone allowing them to run loadsa different software on it etc....is something similar possible on the HD2?
5) Basically it all comes down to the fact that I dont like the basic taskbar look on my phone (really want a colourfull taskbar and some form of % battery indicator) and want to make it look a bit more modern/exciting....and Ive seen loadsa uploads on this site about other users homescreens etc and want to know how i go about doing that? Im not sure if having a T-Mobile HD2 will stop me from modifying it in that way?
Would really appreciate any help/advice anyone is willing to give.....the site seems very oriented to people who know what they're doing lol and im struggling to find a section for novice users like myself! I really like that idea of having a phone I can customise whenever I like.....just not sure at all of how to start going about it......
Cheers!!!

The fact that it's locked to T-Mobile doesn't affect the majority of software on here. Sometimes, there'll be discrepancies between what's expected on your phone, and what's actually on your phone. This will be rare, and usually resolved on here anyway.
2) I see people talking about Manilla...is this the software HTC place on top on WM6.5?

Yes - Manila is the Sense UI.

Flashing the ROM changes the core of the phone. It's often done to do exactly what you said - to get rid of the software that's there by default, but you don't want it. Another more common reason for ROM flashing, is ROM updates that include software fixes (as just happened with 1.48), or windows updates.
4) I know of some people who have Jailbreak their iPhone allowing them to run loadsa different software on it etc....is something similar possible on the HD2?

You don't need to "jailbreak" windows mobile. Question 3 covers this really.

Having a T-Mobile phone won't stop you changing that at all. Just get used to these forums and searching them and you'll find most things you need. There's certainly taskbars on here. You're better off looking in either the root Leo forum (one step above this forum), or the themes and apps one. Also, the Sense UI has a lot of mods in other forums. The Blackstone, for example, had the Sense UI available in a ROM way before the HD2 was released, so that's also a good source of information.
Just keep reading and you'll be fine. We were all new here once
Have fun!

Thanks very much!! appreciate it!

just wondering why I wouldnt want to apply ROM updates and windows updates? would it not be better to do this than wait for official updates from T-Mobile that will prob take forever to emerge?
I've seen on some forums that there is already an official (yet not appearing on the HTC site) HD2 ROM upgrade....but are you saying you advise against this? Or are u saying I dont want to change the core of the phone....but applying updates etc is still possible?
Sorry, excuse my ignorance!
Cheers

I don't understand why you think I'm advising against ROM updates, but I'm not
Basically, it's up to you to weigh up whether or not you want to do a ROM update by looking at what's new and what's removed (if anything).
As far as waiting for T-Mobile to release their own version of the ROM.... yeah, you're right. I wouldn't bother.
I've just updated my HD2 with the 1.48 release, and it's a LOT faster. It's still new though, and a couple of issues have already been found. It's always "at your own risk" whenever you flash the ROM or install mods.

can i ask you what come in the box with tmobile handset, carry pouch? micro sd? an such. and did you get it from tmobile themselves or a phone outlet like carphonewarehouse, thanks in advance

hi....sure! no probs...
i got the handset (obviously lol) charger and micro usb lead (which is quite short and frustrating actually) also got a 2gb micro sd card! There was no pouch - although as far as I am aware HTC supply a pouch...which t-mobile (and all other networks as far as im aware) remove....to force u to buy one! So i bought the official HTC leather one online for £10 - which is quite nice!
I just walked into a t-mobile store in glasgow and asked for the phone...and they had it! i had been arguing all week on the phone with t-mobile upgrades and retentions.....they wanted to charge me £380 upgrade charge as i have a 50% line reduction.......but when i walked into the store they done it for me for £50!!! and kept my discount!!!! so now i get 1000mins, unlimited txts and internet for £20 a month! if ur looking for the phone and dont get quoted a good deal keep shopping....there's always someone willing to do a good deal!
happy times all round!

Sorry - you're absolutely right. You can't upgrade with that ROM. The experts on here are working on something called "Hard SPL" which basically allows you to flash any old ROM you want, regardless of your ROM version at the time.
The ROM that's bouncing round at the moment is an official HTC one, and can only be used on phones that aren't locked to providers.
Since it's a new phone, I'd recommend getting used to it and the available mods on here. You don't need to be able to flash the ROM to install most of the mods, so you can still tweak your phone like mad!

Ok great - yeah good idea! Ive not used it enough to warrant any need to upgrade the ROM and im pretty happy with its speed etc at the moment....prob because i aint got any apps on it apart from a YouTube one (since the lovely people at T-Mobile remove the YouTube app that comes with the phone!)
I'll have a play around with some of the mods on the site and try get it looking much sweeter!lol
Thanks for all your help mate......very much appreciated!!

No worries mate. Have fun, search and ask. Also, be prepared to hard reset if/when you brick your phone for the 1st time

hi thanks for quick reply
am glad you get micro sd, they could of threw the pouch in too LOL, oh well suppose its not that expensive. (know what you mean bout charger cable, same with diamond2 lol) i`m with orange at the mo there not releasing the phone on there network at all i dont think, got my diamond2 from carphone warehouse 10 months ago. its been put in for repair 2 times already due to touch screen failure, last time i put it in it got sent to htc who declared the warrenty void because of certain applications on the phone and have demanded £70 to fix even though i pay insurance every month. decided am not paying gonna cancel direct debit as it was nothing to do with software why i put it in, in the 1st place, think its ridiculous! i`d flashed a cooked rom on my phone and unblocked it with hard spl, i reflashed original htc rom before putting it in the shop but forgot to reblock my phone again, thats what they mean by CERTAIN APPLICATIONS. so beware if flashing your device with non htc rom and you have to claim on insurance for anything, you have to reflash everything back to original htc factory software/roms. to be honest hard spl(unblocking programme to flash any rom) is not out there yet for hd2, i dont think. but just a little tip for you..
by the way lol, i cant seem to get my hands on a hd2 anywhere, there like rocking horse sh#t!! lol am getting really bored watching videos about the device on pocketnow.com now tho Grrrrrrrrrrrrr lol i NEED one soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
just had an email from tmobile, apparently its on its way!!!!!!!!! yaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Erm you can flash the newly "released" Official HTC WWE ROM using the goldcard method. I did so on my T-Mobile HD2. The benefit of doing so is to regain the applications T-Mobile removed like You-Tube, CoPilot trial and Jetcet print. Also you get the advantage of being able to flash future patches directly from HTC, instead of waiting for T-mobile to get their hands on them and break it.

I don't know what the goldcard method is, so I couldn't advise him on it.

Hey buddy, did you manage to flash your rom then?
Like you I'm very new to this scene (coming from an iphone) so just wanted to know if you had successfully flashed your rom. Which rom did you use because I can see a lot of different versions of this 1.48 and don't know which one to use.
Surely if you flash your rom and it shows the youtube app as well as copilot, tmobile will void your warranty wont they???

Hey...i havent given it a go yet! as im new to this i decided to just play around with some little tweaks....like changing my taskbar and modifying some other options...like removing the "scroll down for more options" button during a call so the options are always present..........before i attempted anything big like flashing my ROM! lol
not sure regarding the warranty issue....id think so....tho if i had to send it in for repair (touch wood i wont) then id just restore it back to its original version 1st....

htc magic question...pleese help

Hi, i am planing to buy the htc magic this weekend with vodafone australia.
I heard the the sense ui (hero rom) will be an update for the device in the neer future.
but i also heard that it will only be coming to specific magic devices...something about weather it has google written on it or something.
I was wondering weather anyone has any idea on weather the htc magic with Vodafone Australia will be getting this update.
If this is not possible i know i am able to root my device and get the sense UI. But will it work just as good as on the hero? As it only has 192mb ram and 288 on hero.
also, if i am going to have to root the device. Does anyone have the stock rom for the australian vodafone magic?
I am warried that i will not be able to find the right rom as vodafone australia has made their own little teaks to the rom, and if its any different it will void my warrenty. :S
P.S If there is any reason why i should not buy this phone, PLEESE TELL ME.
P.P.S I know theres no bluetooth for file sharing yet but i also heard theres an app called bluexx or somthing. I heard for some countries this app doesnt work... has anyone in australia got bluetooth to work?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE! AND SORRY FOR LONG POST.
OMG...i just found out that if u buy the phone with three then it hasn't got the with google written on the back....and on the three version it has 288mb ram instead of the 192mb with vodafone.
So if you buy the phone with three you get updates??
and if you buy it with vodafone you don't?
that's a scam...
It's a shame because vodafone is offering a much better deal, i guess this is why.
i'll still probly end up rooting it. so all other questions still need answering badly.
PLEASE HELP
AND THANKS

bluex works great-used it the other day.
as for updates no one really knows....too bad for me now that i am rooted- ithink modded roms are ahead of the google/htc android curve in many aspects anyway....

ahhh thank you very much!
just what i wanted
I am starting to lean towards the hero though :S
The only differences between the two are,
multitouch,
Teflon coating,
5mp camera,
flash player 10
umm
I think that multitouch on the magic actually works
and I'm pretty sure you can get flash player for magic aswell?
could anyone confirm that these are the only differences?
and if the other 2 can be added on magic?

flash is available on hero rom.
multi-touch is avail on hero rom
I can see your issue but here is the main thing- here in australia, the magic is here and now- here- no wrranty issues (if buying OS), the Hero wont be here for another month or 2 and oyu know that release dates often get pushed back, by the time it is released there will be an even faster/prettier phone being released 2months after......
I love my magic- wasnt sure i would, just wanted the 3 half price data plan...was gonna sell on ebay and keep my g1.....now for limestar's super android phone (see whirlpool forums) coming at the end of the year....the magic will do me until then.....

For turn by turn get copilot. Not free but way less than standalone GPS, and best of all you download the maps to SD so they're always there and NO data usage

You in Melbourne? If so let me know and I'll take you through the ADP1 and ION phones to show you what the difference in memory means in terms of performance.

i guess if the ram doesn't make much difference to the hero rom speed,
ill get the vodafone 1
its 59 a month and 500mb data and $350 credit.
its 58 a month on three with only 150 credit haha.
ohhh, and with copilot, i heard that it's going to be getting australian maps next month or so.
seems as it has a picture of hero with copilot, im guessing it will come out when hero does?? anyone with more information on that pleese tell. ^.^
I have the vadaphone $59 plan and it great.
Small issue though that after 2 days of excitement and grabing as much as I can from the market, mid stream using the internet explorer someone rang and the unit haulted. After a reset I had the android boot loop which forced me to change the rom.
I went and uploaded the Fatality Hero, its great but slowish at times, internet seems slower and 3g not working.
Is there an aussie rom that has the hero roms that work with our 3g.

This is probably something you've already tried but if 3g is not working make sure your APN settings are filled out correctly as it may not have auto-detected. Had this issue with dad's Magic (he bought one outright the day he saw mine delivered from 3).
Beautiful device. Though I hope we'll still get Android 2.0 when it hits because from what I hear most of the Android devices next year will be on Snapdragon (1 ghz chip) which will probably **** on the magic hardware wise. Still a while away yet.

Anyway of reverting back to stock rom?

Just a quick one.
I updated my o2 locked hd2 to 1.48 fw. Is there anyway of reverting back to the stock rom that the hd2 came with? (o2 one complete with o2 splash screen etc)
Or is it the point of no return now?

I would assume you can use the same method you used to upgrade your rom (goldcard?) to downgrade it back to the original rom if you need to.

Not sure if you can do the same to revert back though.
Can I ask why you want to? Is the newer ROM worse in some areas, or do you just want the O2 branding back?

Just want another handset. I have no real complaints with the HD2 but i just havent got the time these days to mess and tweak with the phone to get it how i want it. (got a 6 week baby girl here taking up all my time)
I came from an iphone and i primarily used that for web, media and plenty of texting. I didnt really use the app store that much.
In the above areas the HD2 just doesnt cut it for me. Web, sms and media are just far better on the iphone imo. Everything else about the hd2 is fantastic and im glad i got it to experience winmo but at the end of the day for my needs i'll prob just go back to the iphone or perhaps get an android device!

Is there any way I could do that? Never experienced the SMS problem with my stock 1.43, I find 1.48 has many bugs that on 1.43 I never experienced.
So is there any chance of doing that?

Problem is many 1.43 are cursed with the same bugs I'm experiencing with 1.48.
My stock 1.43 was flawless, it simply worked as it should.
Damn, why did I upgrade to this ROM

Well the 1.43 roms are available via this thread

I know that wont put my o2 branding back on it. What you reckon? Revert back to 1.43 send it back to o2 and then play dumb if they try and say ive messed with it? Like (to o2 rep) "mine never had a splash screen on startup, so ive no idea why you would accuse me of altering the device"
have to say i`v been toying with the idea of flashing my phone with upgrade using the goldcard method(i`m on tmobile stock 1.43) due to tmobile removing certain apps on the phone, but keep hearing a lot of problems with 1.48. isnt an upgrade supposed to improve things not make things worse??? lol i have absolutely no major issues with the tmobile stock rom. to be honest it runs flawlessly and smoothly. the only issue i`v had is the pinkish colour on camera but with the hotfix its solved. also i havent read alot of problems coming from people on tmobile either. are the guys behind the scenes doing the testing an tweaking/branding at tmobile on top of ther job maybe?????... Mmmmmmmm. obviously ther seems to be certain issues with the phone that are out of tmobiles hands, i just havent heard many tmobile customers complaining about much, the youtube app yeah, but thats about it. anyways think i`l be leaving upgrade for now lol. if something isnt broke, why fix it?

Should I buy the Telstra HD2?

I am considering buying the Telstra HD2 via a buddy in Oz for use on AT&Ts network. I have been checking out the forums and it seems there are a ton of issues with the HD2 regarding touch screen failures, data connection issues, and other nags that make the experience more frustrating than enjoyable.
Would love to know from experienced users opinions on whether or not I should buy the HD2. I am a very experienced BlackBerry user but I have gotten bored with the UI and want to try something new.
Also to note: I plan to use my next ATT upgrade to get the WP7 phone but that is too long a wait to stick it out on the BB. I am not going to switch to TMob as I think I am the only ATT user that is satisfied with ATT.
Really any thoughts on why I should or should not buy the Telstra HD2 would be appreciated.

The HD2 had ALOT of complaints from users when it first came out and all the problems it had was due to the terrible rom that it came with. The latest official Rom v1.66 and any custom rom from the rom development forum have fixed all these problems and after owning an HD2 for 2 1/2 months I can say hand on heart that it is the best phone I have ever seen or used. No freezes, no problems with the screen, no data connection problems and a pleasure to use. Everytime I look at it I still think WOW!!
Even the camera and video capture which has always been dismal at best on HTC phones is now fantastic and stunningly fast.
With the tweaks and mods available on xda you wont find a better phone.
I advised a friend to get one a few weeks ago and after he got his HD2 he thanked me for recommending it so my advise to you would be to get one as you will not be disapointed.
The only thing I will say is that once you get it be prepared to put HardSPL on it and flash either the 1.66 stock rom or one of the custom roms available to make sure it runs at its best.

I purchased one Telstra HD2 for myself, flashed the ROM (to XannyTech's), and have had no problems except a bug related to screen rotation during phone calls causing the dialpad to reposition itself annoyingly (there's a simple work-around). My boss was so impressed with the phone that he bought one and I've prepped it the same way.
I have no reservations about the purchases. Worrying about WP7 upgrade possibilities is silly since we all know so very little about what might happen. You're right not to listen to the Chicken Littles who want to sue HTC or see the price come down because an upgrade never offered now may only be possible instead of probable.

Awesome and thanks for the input. I am sold. My buddy in Perth grabbed one for me today and it is on the way to me. I was debating whether or not to sell it but I want to keep it. Your explanation of flashing the ROM was one of the first links I bookmarked from this site.
I am definitely going to have to HardSPL the device - what I understand is that the Telstra ROM will not allow me to access ATT's 3G bands. I have been on a BlackBerry for 5 years so this is all new to me but I am looking forward to getting the HD2.

When you get it make sure you check the SPL in the bootloader screen to make sure you can put HardSPL on it. The requirements are SPL 1.42. I dont think any phones are being sold with a higher SPL version but you really want to check that first before you start drooling over the sheer beauty of it
Once you are ready to start flashing it please post in my flashing for noobs thread if you have any more observations or questions.

Theres an even better replacement than the rotate fix, there's a dll fix now too
I think it's an excellent phone, but the standard Telstra ROM is terrible, I'm using the latest Energy ROM and the phone is AMAZING now
I agree in that it is an excellent phone. I am using it on AT&T here in the US.
I have tried several of the ROMs cooked here and can say they all offer great alternatives. Go for it!
I also have the T9193 setup with ATT. I went for the safe sea wwe 1.66 rom. The only problem I had was with the data freezing on me a couple times a day. But once I got the right bands setup and installed the 2.08.50.08_2 radio the phone has been flawless for weeks. Not one issue. I have had no problems with the touchscreen at all.

Not the right thread maybe, but what is the link to this fix? Only thing that annoys me sometimes. Thanks.
Concerning this thread, MSKip recommended me the HD2 (he came from a TyTn II) just like me, and I can only repeat every word he said. Even camera is quite nice. Used in a trip with my kids, and it did its job when I needed quite nicely.
I also bought my Telstra to use in the same band as AT&T in Brazil. It's been working with no problem. I don't keep it connected all the time, so can not say about stability of connection, but whenever I need I connect HSPA right away and connection is quite fast and it is quite OK to browse the web with it. And thing is no lag! I use Miri 6.5.x, great, there is a fix for the registry to select correct bands or auto... My 2 cents.
PS: I was only missing a little bit hardware keyboard and media keys. Now I'm getting used to on-screen keyboard and typing is getting closer in speed and accuracy to a hard keyboard. Media keys, well, I use my bluetooth headphone's, still miss them sometimes, though, but nothing is perfect, is it?
I have been happy with ATT, but the price of the import is too steep so I cannot stay if I want the HD2
If you dont mind the price importing shouldnt be too bad, I know someone who did and has been very happy with it.

Yes, not cheap. I've got my HD2 Telstra from Australia to the US for around U$ 800 total.

O2 uk new rom (end of this month)

After weeks of calling O2 and moaning on and on about the locked old 1.43 rom today I have been told by O2 we WILL finaly have a new rom (i guess 1.72) last day of march!
Finally
We were suppose to have it 2 weeks ago...I wont be holding my breath about this...we will see...
Unbelievable how long it's taken o2 to give people an official upgrade. Thank the lord for xda-devs, eh? HSPL & freedom all the way!
i bet its 1.66 rom o2 are really slacking at the moment....
Any clues where it will be available to download?
Really now so what is this the third or fourth date that we have heard. I will believe it when i see it as they say.
and yes I am pessimistic, especially when it comes to O2 and updates...
Also MidnightDraven it will be on the HTC site or may HTC Pedia, if it gets leaked....
Ahh good. thanks for that.
Lets hope it turns up then.
I doubt 1.72 .. It's incredibly frustrating dealing with them. I understand the reasons, but they don't help at all. And after all this waiting, chances are that they have only been looking at 1.48 and 1.66....... O2 suck.
It's about bloody time too - I just hope they actually keep to their word this time
Has anyone else confirmed this? I'll try give 'em a ring after work later.......£10 says they will tell me a different date!

At least they might understand you when you mention "ROM" or "Update" as they thought I wanted a new phone, even after explaining it in an email with links to HTC's ROM updates.
Are O2 usually so bad at releasing ROMs? I have personally never flashed one before, but i've waited, as you all have, ages for an official update.
Yeh they are
got the wrong thread a little...
I must be missing something here but.....who cares? I have an O2 Leo and the only time I would consider using an official O2 rom is if I was returning it for repair like I had to recently.

Well I would like to flash my first ROM, and preferably one I know for sure will work. So I am quietly optimistic about the new ROM and the features it will have on it. Otherwise I will probably sit with the one I have for a bit longer before considering using a cooked ROM.

Install HSPL and flash any rom you want. Providing you follow the instructions there is absolutely no need to use a network rom, none of them can hold a candle to a decent cooked rom. You will probably never see WM 6.5.5 on any official network rom yet there are various cooked roms that offer the opportunity to experience Windows Mobile and capacitive screens working reasonably well together for the first time. Xannytech's Evolution 1.4 which I'm using is just one of them.

I think you have been the catalyst in my trying a new ROM, I have HSPL installed now and I am going to have a look around for a ROM to suit me.
Oh and by the way, loving the avatar, Bill is a legend!
any more news on if this just mightbe genuine?
Good luck, t-mobile promissed us the same thing by the end of this month and we got given the original ROM (1.43) probably because they thought , nobody will know it's not an update
I thought sod it so flashed hardspl and then the official HTC rom (1.66), gone from rebooting the thing 5+ times a day to once every 3 days or so (which I can live with)
I doubt 1.72 .. It's incredibly frustrating dealing with them.

Mrjonnyrock,
Im on Vodafone UK and my phone arrived anbranded. Im currently on stock 1.72.405.3. I think the bloatware (Facebook, twitter etc) is actually HTC standard bloatware rather than Vodafone. I originally rooted using the one click method and removed all such software. You will need to follow the down grade threads to return to 1.32.405.6 to use such a method though but it isnt that easy.
Heed the warnings though as removing such software blocks HTC's OTA updates (I learnt that the hard way).
A programme like LauncherPro will enable you to hide unwanted apps from your app drawer. I know thats not permanent and they still exist in some alternative reality but if you are only going to root to remove those apps rather than run a custom rom it may be simpler and easier in the long run.
Just my opinion though.

There are a bunch of stupid demo games and other crap installed including vodafone 360, rubbish that i want to get off.
Why put this crap on a device? Its like the laptop OEMs, installing all the crap under the sun to make some extra cash. I am not offered my device for less money, but they get my money and money form advertisers.
WHEN THE BLOODY HELL WILL THESE PEOPLE LEARN. WE DON'T WANT YOUR CRAP SOFTWARE INSTALLED ON DEVICES THAT WE PAY A LOT OF MONEY FOR. why must i have stuff installed on a device that i do not want with no way of getting it off the device. I pay for the device i should have the right to choose what i want on it and not be forced accept having the stuff forced on me.
i have had the phone for a day now and if i don't find a way of getting this crap off the phone without voiding my warranty, it will go back to vodafone.

i thought as much My original HTC Desire had to go back to HTC for repairs and this could take longer than a week. the phone did not really have much crap on it. i guess this because there is not much memory on the phone to install crap. I did not think that the Desire HD would come loaded with rubbish so did not even think about that.
Can i deal directly with HTC if there are any hardware issues with the phone? or would it have to go back via vodafone?
Vodafone have bad habits of doing this to people so this is hardly surprising. I got my DHD a couple weeks after release and theres no bloatware on it, but i had a feeling they were going to, so I got it early. But Google in their infinite wisdom said that 2.3/2.4 android will make things easier for mobile companies to brand the phones.
i do understand the guy....

i still need some time before i flash it or maybe wait for gingerbread to come out... so that i do that only once
why don't u unload uninstall any vodafone stuff?
I had my phone from Virgin Mobile. Luckily not too much bloatware on it.
I eneded up rooting it simply as I like using stock Android rather than HTC Sense, which is always a good reason to root.
So now I'm runnign CyanogenMod7 , which is Android 2.3, runnign overclocked to 1.5Ghz.
Fast like you would not believe !
And to be fair, once rooted you';ll probably get updates here faster than waiting for Vodafone to update it OTA !!

the uninstall option is greyed out. Stuff like Tower Bloxx NY Trail, Texas Hold'em, uno trial etc can not be removed. Also this vodafone 360 stuff is rubbish. Great i am with vodafone, but i will never use this stuff.
O and what if i was a recovering gambling addict vodafone? Or if gambling was something I did not want on my phone for religious reasons. This is the UK, looks like someone did not check with legal before sending out devices.

well its a new contract so its not free. You get nothing for free.
By the time the contract it up i would have paid for it.
Discounted, don't make me laugh. Vodafone would not offer any device/service if they did not make money. They have a % of profit that they need to make on every contract.
Edit:
also, i am not really that unhappy with the vodafone branding or the 360 software. i will just not use it. Its a pain but i can live with that. The thing that is just not on is the installing of demo or trial software that can not be removed.

Don’t work ( RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26 .03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed.exe) on mine (vodafone UK). it may be that mine is now running Andriod 2.2.1 but when i try and install it i get the error customer ID.
Am seriously thinking that it needs to be taken back to Vodafone.
The thing that is worrying me is that in say 12 months time Vodafone might not bother to update the device even if google/htc have an update for the phone.
