This is how i copy DivX .avi format to my phone:
Paste my TV-serries to GT-I9000/Phone(or Card)/DCIM/Camera
It asks if I want to convert, I answer NO (imo it takes too long and I don't care if it takes a bit more space (or does it?)).
When I play on my phone it says "Unsupported file type" But the TV-serries IS PLAYING ANYWAY after I click OK...
I have heard noumorus places that Galaxy S is supporting DivX and it clearly is, but bugs up on .avi DivX?
Is there any way to get rid of the message "Unsupported file type" (without converting)?
You can just connect the phone to the PC, select Mass Storage, notification area -> usb -> Mount and then copy them to the card and make a folder.. You don't have to put it under DCIM/Camera, that's just nonsense.
Anyway, I haven't gotten that message myself when playing .avi DivX or XviD files.

Yeah, I put my files in a folder called "movies". The only time I've received unsupported file types is when I try to play 1080P directly on the phone. 720P avi and mkv files all work fine for me and 1080P can be output through DLNA to my TV.
"select Mass Storage, notification area -> usb -> Mount"
Where is this Mass Storage you are talking about?

You connect with Samsung Kies?
Go to settings, click on "wireless and network" > "USB settings" > "mass storage". Plug in the USB and you shouldn't need to "mount" it.
Alternatively, if your USB is plugged in, bring down the notification window on top of the screen, clock on the "USB debugging connected" notification it will allow you to uncheck "USB debugging" which will turn your device into a mass storage device.

Hey Allgamer, thanks for the pointer again. I see three applications with the same name:
- Rock Player (armv7)
- Rock Player (armv6)
- Rock Player (armv6+vfp)
There are all free applications. Which one is the best?

I'm having some trouble. . .
On my Wing, it seems that it wont really play any of the videos I store on my SD card. I've got maybe 300 gigs of media on my box, and I realize that the device supports 3GP, MP4, and AVI files, though I have no idea what versions of those extensions will play.
I have tried converting file types, file strengths (encoding, etc) to no avail. At one point I condensed an episode from my Robot Chicken DVD (picked for hilarity as well as small file size) and though the file was say, 50 MB on the computer (and played using WMP), and 50MB on the phone, it only played and scrolled as if the file was 5 seconds long on the phone.
Just like the blackberry, I assume there is a converter, or something I am otherwise missing here. All I really want to be able to do is to take a DVD, or take a file I've created, found, unearthed while deep-sea diving, etc, and play it on my Wing.
Where do I start?
EXTRA BONUS QUESTION: I installed Opera Mini as an alternative browser in root, which I now realize is IMPOSSIBLE to access. I believe a memory wipe should cure that. Would it be accessable if I store it on say, the SD card? Through file manager maybe?

Media player sucks for viewing any type of video on your phone. I suggest you install TCPMP and you should be fine. Do a search on the forum and you should find it pretty easy. As far as your Opera Mini Question....you should be able to run it from your SD card just fine.
Much appreciated, roman, I had figured it would be something like that. Glad to be rid of WMP too.
Clarifying question: How do I play the files through TCPMP? Ive tried from the file itself in file manager and it tries to launch WMP. I dont see a "file > open" type pathway within TCPMP itself.
What am I missing there?
add the file to it's playlist

There is actually a open tab thing in TCPMP, on the botton control bar in the player, click on the first tab from the left and in there there is the open option. And if you want the files to automatically open with TCPMP when you acces them from the file explorer etc. then you go to the TCPMP sttings and then to file associations. IN there select the files that you want to be asociated with TCPMP, and i think after a soft reset, they will automatically be opened with TCPMP.

Most of my movies or videos are in AVI or MP4.
I've a wifi with Htc pro and I have share my pc with resco but divx don't start, I' have installed core player, divxplayer and ppcinema but nobody work in lan.
Mp3 work only one at a time with windows media player but don't know how add all file to my playlist.
Could anyone tell me how resolve?
P.s. If somebody have problem with images in lan, I've resolve with resco photo viewer
Now mp3 are ok (tcmpc), divx always same problem
In Reso Explorer go to Menu\Options\Add-Ins\Network, and tick the box labelled 'Expose "Network" folder for other programs'. Then you should be able to browse to the mapped network folders in coreplayer, etc.

If I copy movie on SD all work fine, problem is with lan. I prefer to copy files to SD rather than make a resize
Whether watching over your lan or from sd, there are advantages to resizing the file. It will then use a lot less cpu power, as it wont have to resize on the fly. This means that your battery will last longer, and your device wont get as hot.
I also use bluetooth headphones because my hermes doesnt have a standard headhone jack, and a2dp uses a lot of cpu time which means that higher res films start getting jerky and skipping.
Okay so Divx player is working great, but when i load a movie it plays a little choppy not smooth at all is there's a setting or do i need to re-encode it ?
**EDIT**
I gave up o Divx !!

Thanks Worked like a Charm just did these Tweaks !
1. Install the TCPMP Tech1 TP2 version to the main memory. DO NOT install to your SD CARD....
3. Open the TCPMP player, go to Options> Video> If "DirectDraw" is check marked, "Unchecked Mark it"...
4. Check mark "GDI" (if it does not work then) Check "Raw Frame Buffer", (one of these will work)....
5. Go to Options> Settings> Select Page> DirectDraw> (Overlay format should say Auto) Check Mark "Use blitting instead of overlay", Check mark, "Use device strecting for blitting", tap on OK...
6. Go to Options> Settings> Select Page> File Associations> and Check Mark ALL THE BLOCKS, tap OK in the lower left corner, exit the player, soft reset your TP2.... When your device comes back up, you can play the videos now
Now it plays All my avi's with out a lag !!!
seems to be smoother now...thanks a lot
[Guide] A little guide to Galaxy S to latop via DLNA
Updated 08/17/2010
A Little Guide to The Galaxy S DLNA
Note: This is not meant to be a comprehensive guide, but rather a starter's guide to get you on your feet. If you want to add more contents to this thread, feel free to do so. If you want to post this guide somewhere else, also feel free to do so, but do give credit where it is due.
Wikipedia's definition of DLNA: The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a non-profit collaborative trade organization comprised of more than 250 member companies[3] in the mobile, consumer electronics, PC, and service provider industries. Alliance members have stated the common goal of using standards-based technology to make it easier for consumers to use, share and enjoy their digital photos, music and videos.
What this mean is that DLNA allows you to stream videos, pictures and music across multiple platforms without the need to actually transfer the file itself. Streaming between hardwares that comes with the DLNA label is easy. However, if you do not have a wifi capable TV, the next best option would be to stream to a computer screen instead. And here is what you need:
A Galaxy S (or a Captivate for our dear U.S. buddies)
A wifi capable computer - which can be a laptop or a computer connected to a wifi router.
Windows Media player 12 (Windows 7 only) or XBMC.
PC Share Manager is no longer necessary for streaming to Galaxy S. Hurray
Samsung PC Share Manager. Download HERE. Click on Software.
Streaming to computer
Step 1 :
Connect both computer and Galaxy S to the same wifi network router. If you are using a Desktop, plug it into a wireless router, and then connect the Galaxy S to the router. If you are using a laptop, either connect wirelessly to the router or plug it in, and do the same for the Galaxy S. (Windows 7 Only You can also connect the Galaxy S to your laptop directly using Connectify. In practice, this works the best for streaming large videoes. )
Step 2 :
Launch DLNA on your Galaxy S. Wait for it to finish loading. (when the spinning circles stop.)
Step 3 :
Launch Windows Media Player 12. Go to library. You should see Galaxy S under "Other Libraries". Choose whatever you want to stream from your phone, and it should work.
Alternative:
Launch XBMC. Now this is a little more tricky. You will have to add the folders yourself. E.g. Go to video -> add source -> Browse -> UPnP Devices -> Galaxy S. Here you see 3 folders with messed up names. You will have to figure out which is which by trial and error. On my laptop, the first one is picture, the second is video and the 3rd is music. Yours might be different. Once you have added the folders in, you can play them normally.
Streaming to Galaxy S
Step 1:
Unfortunately, neither WMP nor XBMC supports this. Instead, you will have to use Samsung PC Share Manager, which you can download above. Download and install it.
UPDATE:
c2k from AndroidForums and ssj4Gogeta1 from xdaDevelopers found a way to browse media files through WMP 12. Thank you guys.
Open Network and Sharing Center.
Click on "Change Advanced Sharing Settings" in the left pane.
Expand "Home or Work"
Make sure Network Discovery and File Sharing are turned on. I've also turned off password protected sharing, don't know if it makes a difference.
Click on "Media Streaming Options" on that page.
Make sure your phone is connected to your computer via a network. The network type should be set as "home" ("work" should work too), not "public". Streaming only works on home networks.
Select "All networks" from the "Show devices on:" dropdown list.
My phone was listed as "unknown device". Select "Allow" next to it. (You need to turn to DLNA on your Galaxy S first, and it might take a while for your PC to detect the phone. Patience, my young padawan.)
Now open Allshare on your phone. Select "Play file on a server through my phone", select the server (your computer), and you should be able to browse your music library.
If you want to push songs from your phone to WMP, you can open WMP and from the "Stream" menu select "Allow remote control". You can then push songs/videos/pictures from your phone to WMP by selecting the "Play file from my phone on another player" in Allshare.
If you can't set "Media Streaming Options" on your computer, you probably have "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" disabled. You need to set it to Automatic start. Open start menu, type in "services.msc", hit enter. Find the service and set it to automatic by double clicking on it.
For some reason I still can't push songs from WMP to my phone using the "play to" option in WMP, even though I have "upload from other devices" set to "always accept" in Allshare settings. Browsing the computer's library in Allshare works fine.
Click to collapse
Step 2 :
Launch Samsung PC Share Manager. Use the left panel to select the folders you want to share, then press the icon with a “tick” on top of a folder to share the folder. Once you have added all the folders you would like to share, go to share, set device policy. If your Galaxy S is connect t the same network as your laptop, you should be able to see it here. Click Accept.
Step 3 :
Restart PC Share Manager.
Now you should be able to browse the folders on your Galaxy S.
Q & A
Q. Can I choose what to play on my laptop by browsing through my Galaxy S, instead of through WMP or XBMC?
A. No. For some reason this doesn’t work on a laptop/computer. However, there is sort of a work around for XBMC. I will explain this later in a different thread.
Q. Apart from WMP and XBMC, what other programmes can I use?
A. Check this page for details. I haven’t had time to try the rest yet. But do know that XBMC supports its own android remote app natively without the need to install another server app on your computer, and can be run at the same time as DLNA.
Q. Help! Some of the files cannot be played on my computer.
A. No idea. Try using another program.
Q. Help! Some of the files won’t appear on my Galaxy S
A. Files that cannot be played on your Galaxy S (as in if you have the file in the phone) won’t appear.
nice guide, this should be part of the FAQ or stickied

Wow thanks. Would never have figured that out on my own. That's pretty amazing.
Too bad that WMP doesn't support all video types. One of the main reason why I wanted to use DLNA is to stream youtube files I downloaded on my phone to a larger screen. So for now I am still sticking to XBMC, which by the way has an amazing remote app.
I will add your instructions to the guide later (together with your name of course).
@ssj4Gogeta1
This is amazing!
Works beautifully over wifi connection.
Thank you!
But it does...!
I know this is too late and you might have already found a solution, but you can use shark 007 windows 7 codec pack to enable WMP to play almost all media types. Give it a go! It's free and works flawlessly for me! I know this sounds like an advert but I'm pretty impressed. I even uninstalled VLC after installing this pacl. It's THAT good!

Unlike phone-derived Android, /sdcard on our devices isn't really an SD card. It's actually the exact same partition as /data.
It's just symlinked so that apps which expect /sdcard don't break.
As it's an ext4 partition, it doesn't have the 4GB file size limit of FAT.
This, by the way, is why our tabs don't support USB Mass Storage but instead implement MTP. USB Mass Storage exports the raw block device, MTP operates on files. This allows it to be used when other apps are also using /sdcard, and allows the ext4-ness of /sdcard to get hidden. The disadvantage is that it's far less standardized than USB Mass Storage. MTP seems flaky on our devices, but ADB (Android USB debugging) is nice and solid.

Just chose the next file i haven't managed to get them to play in order, working on it.
MKV solves ALL of these problems.
Download mkvtoolnix for your OS
This toolset allows you to do the following very easily:
Add any video/audio source to MKV container without compression
Split MKV into any size chunks
MKV split into chunks can be "linked" and if the player fully supports it, it will automagically find the next chunk to be played. I dont think diceplayer supports the link functionality of mkv. Boo hoo you need to pick the other chunk to play when one runs out. Not a deal breaker.

Thanks -- I originally didn't see that you could set the files to a 3GB file and I was just using the default of 1048k.....Now it is only in 3 files instead of a million!!
