Recently My Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) was not working at all. I would exeucte the program and not see anything load up or anything at all no reaction. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Again I tried to execute but nothing loads nothing starts. I'll look in the Task manager and see that the process is there but no actual program looaded up.
Someone please help I'm in real trouble here. I have version 6.1 Windows Mobile Device Center and I have vista home.
I connect via Usb. I have checked all over the net and previous posts on the forum but found nothing similar to my problem.
the rom I'm using btw is vp3g's

I have noticed that sometimes WMDC gets "stuck", and you can't see it. When you try to run it nothing happens, because it is already running. You might try closing the "wmdc.exe" task from task managers "processes" tab, make sure it disappears, and then try running it again. Of course, you could effectively do the same thing by rebooting. Hope that helps.
brian.
I've tried that already and I'm pretty desperate at this point because I don't want to format.
anyone have any ideas , I really need help
Thanks
I don't know how to solve your problem, but you may find lots of help at the Microsoft activesync newsgroup...
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...a0d-d096-405a-847a-07dc9db40595&lang=en&cr=us
Although WMDC is for Windows Vista users, they do help out WMDC users since the software has evolved from activesync.

anybody know of an easier way (software) to send files to a windows mobile phone instead of activesync... i've tried setting up a local ftp server through my computer and router to send files but i can't get the shadow to connect, was wondering if there was a 1 click program that utilizes the device drivers to just straight out interexchange files...
i know i can do memory card, etc, blah blah blah, but i'm wanting a software solution
Have u tried this. Your PC will see phone as another hard drive
if it works with 6.1, perfect, i'll try downloading directly to the phone and letting you know, thanks for the quick response
works like a champ, thanks korman
An easier way is to use Windows explorer, either in XP or Vista. You'll need to change your folder options in the "computer" in the view tab to show hidden files and folders.
Once you've done this, you'll see the shadow as another drive/device on your windows machine.

Damned!! Still running a PIII?
No PIII here anymore
1. First, when I got my TOuch HD (im using Vista) and I tried to connect the HD to my PC, I plugged in the cable but it wouldn't connect. I realised it was a USB port problem, change the port, and everything sync fine for the last week or so. Last night, there was a Windows Mobile Device Centre update so I did that. And after that, it woulnd't connect via Active Sync anymore. (Im using the same usb port, also tried a different port). When I try to connect as a hard drive, I can still view the content of the memory card just fine.
Does any1 know how to fix this please?
2. I've copied a lot of music into my HD, and quiet a few of them are ones that I dont really like (since I didn't filter before I copy), so the advantage of using windows media player (wmp) is that in library, i can delete the file from my memory card as well (which is more convinience than using a different music player, may be some players offer this function but Im not aware of?). However, I got this problem - when I try to update my library, wmp search ALL of my memory card and copy over all the audio files from different software/games... and I want it to only scan the music folders (where all my music are). So any1 can offer me a solution for this please? (I.e. some option in wmp that i dont know, or another music player that offer delete from storage card)?
Thanks a lot for your help..
Btw, Im using the ROM ver 1.14.4053 WWE (on Orange UK) and Vista Home Premium
hi, could someone help me with this please?
thanks
If you want the ActiveSync connection, ensure you specify that in the USB to pc Setting. Also, blank out the enable advanced network functionlaity checkbox.
I don't use WMP anymore, but I think you can delete it only from the library without actually deleting it from the storage card. In that way, your library is clean from the unwanted stuff, yet you don't end up deleting system sound files.
Hope it works for you.
hi, im using vista, and using mobile device center, not activesync, activesync is not for vista.
and what I want is actually being able to delete some unwanted song from my storage card (so i dont have to clean it up later)

Your vista can't make activesyn connection unless you do the step that I've outline in the last post. ActiveSync applies to both XP and Vista.
hi, thanks for the reply, but I don't think that's the solution to my problem, because I've already tried that. And also, it was sync fine just before the windows update and download the new Windows Mobile Center, since then, even if I tried system restore to where it was before the update... it wouldn't work...
problem solved - looks like after my update, the Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter went missing... just installed it again.
Thanks for your help.
guy's i can't see my windows foldermap any more on my laptop i'm using windows vista 32bit home when i connect my elf_in 128/256 mb i can't see my windows map i have set in extra the option see hidden map on on but no results any idee's

Just do all the /windows transfers thru the phone should be fine.
Using the PC can be very annoying as you will bump into problems.
My 2 cents.

may be im too noob, im only cooking since last year, so why "Using the PC can be very annoying as you will bump into problems"? can you explain master?
C'mon im noob tooo!
Hahaha.
Relying on a USB cable is quite unsafe if you are transferring important files.
What if its not responding or blabla?
Microsoft Windows is not completely trustable.
I've never had any problems using a usb cable to transfer files
Yeah .
But lets put it this way, Windows Vista has more security fixes.

where do you get realvnc from
where can i download realnvc?
is it a freeware??
I too have been trying to figure this out. What I found out is that for remote desktop, you need to have windows vista/7 Professional. Windows Vista Home will not allow you to have your computer controlled from your phone.
Yes its freeware
This is the link to the viewer and server for your PC
http://www.realvnc.com/cgi-bin/download.cgi
Now I must say im using XP, I HAVE VNC'd into vista and win7 PCs using the view on my tp2. However on one machine running Win7 I couldnt get the PC to recognize the server app. As of right now I simply use the wifirouter on my tp2, connect to its network and use the assigned IP to log in. RealVNC also allows WAP logins but I havent messed with it simply because I dont really need to lol.
In any case, here's the .cab for our phone attached.

I believe the reason for this is that the "Home" editions of Vista and 7 don't let you join a domian (that's one of the things M$ wants you to upgrade for), which as I understand it is necessary for a remote desktop connection.

You kidding me? VNC is a mess compared to Remote Desktop.
With RD, you get the closest thing possible to having a full fledged desktop computer on your phone. And it is pretty damn close.
Honestly when I'm at home and my phone is connected to the wifi network, more often than not I prefer to use it as a mere dummy terminal interface to my main computer.
Remote Desktop + any desktop web browser absolutely destroys every mobile browser ever created. Entire web pages load instantly and somehow look exactly like they would on a regular computer! Hell, you even get Flash support (a bit choppy but it's something).
And the Rhodiums screen resolution gives more than enough room for most web pages to render without the need to zoom out.
Remote Desktop even allows you to easily transfer files wirelessly between your phone and computer by mapping a drive on it that links to your phones file system.
The only thing I'd say against it is that it can be difficult to click on small targets even with the stylus.
I do sympathize with users who run a Windows version without the Remote Desktop Service built in. RDP is probably one of the very few good reasons to get Pro or above versions of Windows.

Windows Vista Home edition does not include Windows Remote Desktop therefore quite obviously you cannot connect to your laptop via your phone, gotta get professional or ultimate for that.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/...ther-computer-using-Remote-Desktop-Connection
Read "notes"
but, of course there are hacks to make it work fine lol it is included in service pack 1 but is not "labeled" try this
Steps to Add Remote Desktop to Vista Home Premium:
1. Download termsrv.zip here
2. Extract Termsrv.zip to a temp directory
3. Start “Command Prompt” in Administrator mode (right click Run As Administrator) it in in Start Menu, All Programs, Accessories, just right click on it
4. Run the corresponding batch file for your Vista edition (if you extracted it to your desktop then it will be C:\Users\[enter user name]\Desktop\Premium
5. Allow TCP Port 3389 on Windows Firewall or any other firewall product if needed
6. Done
(just tested on Windows Vista Home Premium and it worked fine)
(dont forget to reboot)

Could not find server, which is wiers cause all my pcs are interconnected, i can control any one of them from any PC
I guess a good place to start would be to try pinging the computer you want to connect to. You can do that with dotFreds Task Manager. You are trying to connect on a LAN correct?

I messed around with this earlier and couldnt get it to work. My pc is running windows 7 ultimate 64bit edition. I'm almost positive I had all the settings correct but I was trying to connect to my pc which was connected wirelessly to the router. Would this not work? If not how would one go abouts doing this without a lan connection? I'd love to get this baby working and am willing to be a guinea pig so that hopefully we can get a procedure together for all others
after trying remote desktop mobile to make it work i just give up!!!
try this go to www.logmein.com make a free account download logmein software to you laptop install the free softwares !
install cab to tp2
use the two files below.
1. Install XDA first, reboot,
2. install IEtoggle, open IEtoggle, switch IE to PIE,
3.start up IE and sign into logmein.
This worked for me. the only thing is not working is the keyboard
keyboard problems go here !! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444641 it might work !

I routinely use the RDP client on my phone to connect to my desktop computer over wifi LAN. Although my computer is hardwired to the network.
Are you able to remote desktop to your pc with another computer?
Did you select the "Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop" option in the System Properties:Remote dialog?
Could there be some 3rd party firewall software you are running that might be blocking the RDP port?
Also, I've found that when having network issues especially involving wifi, often reseting your router to its default settings, and if necessary upgrading the firmware can help.
