Tried to register my Dell Austin Texas Give-Away phone. Tried on line first. It doesn't recognize ANY of my numbers. Not the Service Tag or the Express Tag.
Next I called Customer support .. They transferred me to cell-phone support. 800-308-3355
While on hold I started wondering if I bought a disposable phone .. a $500 disposable phone .. OUCH .. Apparently I need the name of the distributor and/or the name of the person who was the original owner. I gave her the name of the person who sold it to me, but that is NOT the name she has on record.
Anyone else try to register their USA eBAY Dell Give Away Texas Phone ??
Diane
I just purchased a USA Dell Texas giveaway phone and it should be in early next week.
What are the advantages of registering the device? For the warranty?
.
Warranty would be GREAT and I am thinking maybe for updates ??

Considering how Dell has been acting the past 2 months over this phone (as in doing nothing) I think we can count on developers like Paul or other devs who hopefully come forward and work on this phone to bring us software updates.
As for the warranty, I highly doubt Dell will warrant their free giveaways to people who have sold it already on eBay
Why punish the buyer ?? Let's say we didn't know it was a free phone. I am sure there are several people who bought them that aren't familiar with forums like this ..
Unfortunately, the phones from Dell Texas beta test, have no US warranty.
Most ebay listings that I have seen, state that in the description notes.
And, as per recent Dell employee tweets, there is a minor hardware revision in the US-bound for sale models:

What 'hardware' revisions do you think there could possible be? Talk about a middle finger to their 02 partner if the hardware is something major. Than again, it was free with 2 year contract...
Also, why is Dell now only promoting the Streak through social networking websites? I can see the benefits, but at least through up a proper splash page on the Dell.com website.

Both, if I stand correct saying T-Mobile frequency-band is 1900 mhz in the US.
Supported bands for the Dell Beta Streak:
3G 2100/1900/850 mhz
EDGE 1900/1800/900/850 mhz
.

Ah, it's just the Att 3g version.
T-mobile 3g uses a 1700 + 2100 (Needs both) band frequency so it will only get Att's 3g and can only use Edge on T-mobile.
I'll have to wait for a T-mobile 3g version since Att changed their data plans to 2gb/mo.
My phone is probably the ATT 3G version because ...
It came to the winner with a month of ATT usage. He was in Texas. I am in Florida in a town with NO 3G. I am using my T-Mobile account and even when I am out of my home town and in Orlando, I haven't noticed it getting 3G ..
I guess it can be unlocked to BOTH ATT and T-Mobile but the 3G needs to be installed ATT or T-Mobile??

For real ?? I didn't read that. I was considering a change from T-Mobile to ATT. I don't know how much 2G amounts to. Maybe it is good enough for me, but I don't want to be a usage watcher .. EVER.

hello, im currently a tmobile coustomer, isaw that the hd2 will be coming out during spring, may to be more exact. but i cant wait about 6 months, im dying to buy one, my question is if ibuy an unbraded htc hd2, will it work on tmobiles 3G network? since tmobile will be realsing it in spring?

No.
T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100 UMTS. Current HD2s will only support the 2100 band, and T-Mobile -- uniquely -- requires both bands because one is bound to upstream and the other to downstream.
You'll have to wait for the T-Mobile HD2 if you want 3G.

just to be sure, the bands are a hardware thing? or a software thing?
It's a hardware thing, I'm on T-Mobile with just EDGE speeds but works well enough for me, I don't need much on the data end.
btw, I couldn't even wait til it hit the states...

ooo, yea but for me data nd 3g or HSUPA is a big deal, so iguess im goin to have to wail till tmobile releases the us version.
just wondering at what website did you purchase yours? and how much u paid for yours, ive seen in many sites there about $690
I bought an import HD2 from the UK and use T-Mobile network in the US.Where I live (Texas) it logs in on the E network band, but recently made a trip to San Antonio and it logged in on 3G.
TMOUS w/ EDGE
Same as above... I am on TMO US with Edge and its working fine for me. I also couldn't wait till it hits US.
BTW I have the unlimited Edge plan for $5.99 ( grand-fathered plan ) so I am happy and works better for me instead of switching to thr $29.99 plan.
I use epc.tmobile.com as the APN and speeds are decent.

If data is a big deal for you wait, you've waited this long...
I am in the same boat, I could import now and keep ATT edge, or wait for it to hit T-mo and switch over to a contract free plan. As I use a ton of data a month I will be waiting for full 3g.
If you live in area's with wifi you can mooch off of that, sadly most of the places I am do not provide that so its 3g all the way.

ok so iwas just walking around the mall today (sawgrass mills in florida) and there is this store were they sell all kinds of phones and electronics, they have all the line of HTCs phones and iwas very suprised to see the HD2 so iwent to ask how much it was and they told me it was $1,000 i was like :O i asked them if it was the US version and they said yes, they told me it worked on all 3G networks, so iasked them to let me see it and put my SIM card in (tmobile) so itryed it out, and all i got was full EDGE they said it was my sim card, and stuff, i looked at the most and said EURO Version and showed me only the 2100 bands.

I have one it does but unfourtantley I dont have an 3g signal and I already talked to tmobile they put insurance on my phone so when the 3G version comes out I will be able to swap it for that one instead of paying extra for it.
So apparently Google is coming out with a N1.5 with 3G Band I (2100Mhz), II (1900Mz) and V (850Mhz), versus the N1 Bands I (2100Mhz), IV (1700Mhz) and VIII (900Mhz).
I do not understand why Google's flagship HTC handset doesn't support every frequency and they (whomever "they" may be) simply enable/disable in software?!
Anyway, I guess this means N1.5 will work on AT&T 3G.
Any insider tracking the Google release date for the AT&T capable Nexus?
Care to share an actual source?

I was told by my AT&T representative for the SE region of RS that the phone is ready and is being tested to meet AT&T specs for speed on not only 3G but the upgraded HSPA networks. They however did not specify a date other than 2010 for the AT&T version. Soooo.... we shall see, normally they are right with the products coming to the market, like the Moto backflip which I knew personally was going to AT&T over a year ago.

There is no chipset/antenna design that supports all UMTS bands at the same time. The bgr was just wrong, there are two distinct bb9700: one for t-mobile and one for att.

I wonder what they are going to do to the nexus..remove the unlockable bootloader perhaps? I also wonder if Verizon is going to do the same...
Being on ATT with a nexus one, I really do want to be excited by this news as I am tired of being on edge (thankfully I have wifi available most of the time), but I am concerned about the lengths ATT will go to after seeing what they pulled with the backflip.
I will just sit and wait and watch. Worst case scenario, my cell contract will run dry next year and if ATT buggers up the nexus I can always migrate to TMO with a new contract...best case scenario...I can sell my current nexus to offset the cost of a new one that will take advantage of ATT's 3g...hopefully by then all those dreaded iphones will have moved on reducing the dropped call rate and slow 3g found in my area (seattle).
Two changes needed to support different 3G bands:
1. Antenna
2. Baseband firmware

If I were to buy a Tab from Europe for use in the United States on AT&T, is there a particular model out there that works on the bands AT&T supports? As I understand it, the phone capability is disabled on the U.S. release, so I'd like to get one that has the capability, since I'm a bluetooth user primarily for phone calls anyway.

If we are lucky the phone is disabled only at the ROM level... In which case we may get it back when flashing
If you want the right 3G bands, I would bet on Telstra (Australia0 or Bell (Canada). The problem is you'll probably end up paying more than US versions
We are on the same boat btw...

What worries me is AT&T has been super slow in announcing its model... We still have no idea when it will be available or how much it will cost
^ Most likely before the holiday shopping season begins. They wont DARE miss it.
What At&t is probably doing is focusing on Windows Phone 7 for a while before switching their marketing over to the Galaxy Tab. Also, let the other carriers market the crap out of their own Galaxy Tabs so At&t stands out from the crowd.
The three carriers will be launching their Tabs only a couple of days from each other. T-Mobile is first, two days later Verizon then 4 days later Sprint.
I would love to get an Euro version to use on AT&T, but they are so damn expensive. The cheapest I've found is $939!!!!

NOT true.
The euro model WILL WORK on at&t's 3G just fine (and will make call just fine) if you live in an area that at&t uses 1900Mhz for its 3G network.
I use it just fine here in the SF Bay Area.

I think if your going to get a tab with no contract the best one to get would be the tmobile one the sim slot is still here so it may just be the rom they mess with,
plus the price is like 599 us why pay 989 plus shipping

It'll be missing on the Sprint and Verizon models as they're CDMA-based and therefore don't use SIM cards.
Hey guys- there is already a post that discusses this question. please be careful about clogging the site up with questions that have already been discussed. (it's upsetting the Russians)
As far as the 850 band goes, it's just as fast and available as the 1900 band. 850 was added to relieve congestion due to IPhone users in 2010. 1900 is still most places and isn't going away.
I wouldn't knock someone because they decided to get the euro version without 850. Clubtech has been rocking out on his for about a month with voice capability unlocked while we are sitting around hoping that the US carrier version can be hacked. That only cost him roughly 50 bucks a week and that drops every day we don't have one. Seems pretty smart at this point and by the time we do get ours and figure out how to unlock the phone the difference in price will be negligible. plus he's already saving for the next gen tab while we wait for this one. And how upset will you be when you find out the hardware is disconnected and we can't get the phone turned on and have to pay the same price 2 months later after already buying the castrated US version. I guess we will find out after Thursday. Also, I heard a nasty rumor that the front facing camera on the AT&T version is removed.
I plan to get the T-Mo version without a contract on Wed and then hand that off to my wife as a Wi-Fi only tab when I can get my hands on the unlocked 850 band model that has phone capability as shown on mobilecity.com or Negrielectronics.com. I don't care what the price is, I just want to rock out on a tab like Clubtech is doing NOW!!!

I thought the release date was November first?
he got the Italian model several weeks ago
I didn't realise they'd launched it there earlier, for some reason I was under the impression it was launched across Europe on the same date.
Only the UK model was delayed untill Nov 1. Italy, Germany and several others have had it since early Oct.
The offical unlocked 850/1900 version was delayed until early 2011. Atleast thats what Samsung told Nergi however, the Bell version is offically coming on Nov 12th and that version has 850/1900 3G bands so there ya go... Full 3G in the USA!
Hi guys... I joined xda to try to figure out the best way to get voice calling in the US on the Tab... so thank you all so much for your information.
In an attempt to see if I have 1900MHz coverage from AT&T in my area... I called their 800 no. (1-800-331-0500) given to me by the local office, cus they didn't know precise coverage areas.
At the 800 number, the rep read from an Oct 10 release (on their MyCustomer Service Portal) where AT&T says that "because the number of customers with 1900MHz only phones is declinging" they are phasing out that frequency in 2010-2011. It's already begun in 30 markets (OKC phase out should be complete by Dec 2 according to the release). (Edited to add: clubtech says that they've been saying this since 2008, and hasn't happened yet.... so maybe it won't? who knows...)
They said they would replace customers' phones as the frequency was phased out if they were 1900MHz only.
And from what I've been able to learn here and elsewhere... it is the 1900MHz frequency that the Galaxy Tab uses, not the 850 frequency (at least on AT&T).
Sooooo.... isn't that lovely?
Looks like a Euro unlocked will not work for too much longer... altho maybe by the time the 1900 bands are phased out, there will be other workarounds.
So it's either back to mobilecity to preorder the 3G unlocked version for $879 (and who knows when that will be in?) or wait to see if the T-Mo version can be flashed to voice calling... which hopefully we will know soon.
btw... in my searching, clubtech was kind enough to enlighten me that the Euro version Tabs on eBay will only work on the 2G network of T-Mobile, which obviously is no good... so heads up on that.
But I must say I am getting even more pissed at the US carriers for making it so difficult to use the phone features of the tablet.

What starts to piss me off is AT&T has still not given any release date. Probably trying to please Apple... Once AT&T's tab is out we'll find out whether the call has been disabled at the hardware level (Given Samsung's history, I kind of doubt it)
But point taken, Cell phones networks (and operators) are at the level of Third World countries in America... (I lived in Hong Kong and Japan before)

Different countries' networks have different strong points and weak points.
In the UK, the biggest upside is the competitive pricing. The biggest downside is the generally poor data services, allowances, prices and speeds.
In the US, the cons seem to be the 50/50 split between two technologies, making matters unnecessarily complex and reducing competition, thus leading to poorer pricing. The pros relate to the superior adoption/acceptance of data usage, more generous allowances, pushing forwards with better network technologies and higher speeds.
Or, at least, that's how I see it.
I'm on the same boat with you Alcibiade. Although I tend to believe it's the collaborative decision, or perhaps more on the Samsung's side, to make the Tab more competitive to the iPad. If you look at the pricing of the Euro/Asia version, it's pretty much no contest against the iPad. For them to sell it here in the State (the home of walmart, Target, etc, and where iPad is from) they really had to take drastic approach to lower it in order to match the iPad. And that leaves u, and me getting frustrated about if we really do have the type of options that Samsung is trying to appeal to the consumer (by offering the same device to different carriers).
From what I can gather, aside from the lack of the voice capability, there are small difference between carriers. Spring and Verizon's version seems to have only 2GB built in memory. The T-Mobile runs on it's own 3G band. And AT&T's version is up in the air. I know for me I definitely need GSM for traveling, so that really leaves me without too much choice.
Albeit maybe i am just in the minority. But i really wish they could make purchasing Tab as easy as buying the iPad.
It’s now confirmed. Bell has released a statement indicating that the Motorola ATRIX is going to be available on March 17th. As for the price points: $169.95 on a 3-year (with a minimum $50 voice/data plan) or for $599.95 on no-contract. Bell will also sell the Lapdock and the HD Multimedia Dock but no word on those prices were announced.
Specs of this Android have it coming with OS 2.2 with Motoblur, 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual-Core processor, 1GB RAM and 1930 mAh battery, Flash Player 10.1, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and 720p HD video recording, VGA front-facing camera, holds up to 48GB with a microSD card (16GB internal and optional 32GB), WiFi.
Who’s buying?

Heres to hoping it has HSUPA enabled.

You obviously don't know Canadian cell phone carriers. Bell removed FFC's from some Samsung phones. Did you notice... 3 year contract. AT&T ... 2 year.
Think AT&T is bad... at least you have real choice in the states.
yea canadian providers are the worst! - I do love Wind and Mobilicity though
As an american living in canada the US has far better cell phone service, I just wish motorola made a version that worked on wind because that's what I use... 40/mo for unlimited voice/texts/data is too hard to beat =)
Still, it's nice to see they're releasing it so soon after the US release, usually canada has to wait MONTHS for a phone to hit their side of the border.

They are great. If you live in a metropolitan area. I'm juuust outside Oshawa, the Wind Zone ends 3 blocks from my house. Not good if I'm getting say groceries and need to call home to see if my wife needs something.
Or travelling. As much as I hate Rogers, my data usage in the states comes off my monthly balance
Well captivate owners waited months hoping for a hsupa modem from its canadian brother....no dice

I'm in Halifax and was about to outbid someone on ebay.... a few questions though:
1) So, can I purchase an unlock code for it?
2) Also, what GSM/3G bands will it support?
3) Finally, no 4G??
Pretty sure you can get an unlock code for any phone out there... just a matter of price. In Toronto you can just go to pacific mall and a ton of places can get it for 10 bucks or so. There's some online sites that work too but it's a bit riskier.
It'll most likely be the same exact phone that AT&T has in terms of hardware since Bell/Rogers/Telus all use the same 3G frequencies now.
And for 4G... does any carrier in canada even have 4G yet?

I'm definitely buying this beast. Hoping to get it on the 17th. Been waiting since CES...
4G is a marketing gimic that means whatever you want it to.

Here's hoping we can extract the bell atrix's firmware and flash it on the gringo version to enable faster upload speeds. Designgears, what do you think?
Confirmed from Bell:
Here are the connectivity details:
•HSPA –global access
•GPRS / EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
•UMTS 850/1900/2100 MHz
•Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth, DLNA
He'll let me know how I can unlock it in the next email...

The announcement says: "...on Canada's Best Network with the fastest 4G speeds and largest 4G coverage..."
So I dunno why they dropped the "4G" part of the name...

Guess you've fallen for their marketing ploy... quite sure bell isn't even 3.5G. Yet they label anything faster (theoretically) than 3mbps as 4G when traditional 3G maxes out at 7.2mbps.

Well, getting an unlocked, rooted Atrix 4G from the US will cost me CAD $650 ... while getting it locked from Bell would cost me CAD $600.... I'm not sure if $50 is worth worrying about unlockability and rooting...

It's like how AT&T is doing it, calling their HSPA+ 4G.
I was wondering about rooting the Atrix. The AT&T version is already rooted, would the same rooting method work for the Bell version? Would this only work if they have the exact same firmware for 2.2? I remember when I manually install updates for my Nexus One, I had to wait for the AT&T update to come out since the firmware was different than the TMo version. This was before the versions were merged. So I'm wondering if this is the case? Or does this have no relevance?
Will be getting the Bell's Atrix on the 17!
will this work on tmobile's 3G?
So after reading a Thread about it going live in Pittsburgh, I figured i'd contact t-mobile myself to confirm if I had access in New Orleans.
!Socorro S: Welcome to T--Mobile Live Chat! My name is Socorro sj and my Rep i.d. is xxxxx.
!Socorro S: Can you give me 3-4 minutes to look it uo for you?
Me: Yes, thank you.
!Socorro S: what type of phone do you have?
Me: I currently have a monthly4g plan w/ T-mobile. I wanted to purchase the international version of the Samsung galaxy note (GT-n7000). The phone doesn't have the 1700mhz base band
!Socorro S: Hello, are you still there?
Me: I heard T-mobile was refarming the 1900mhz base band for data and has deployed it in some areas.
!Socorro S: Oh, okay. Let me look into that, and thanks for the info.
Me: If you need any other information, feel free to ask
!Socorro S: Let me check on my resources here. I will be right back, in about 4-5 minutes. Is this okay with you?
Me: That's fine.
!Socorro S: what phone do you have now. Prepaid Accounts do not show us the type of phone customer has.
Me: That's odd.
Me: I have a Samsung Exhibit II 4G
!Socorro S: Yes, 900mhz band for data live in New Orleans.
Me: I'm sorry, do you mean 1900mhz?
!Socorro S: 1 mean, 1900mhz, sorry.
Me: Oh, that is great news!
!Socorro S: Anything else I can be of further help today?
Me: I have one other question.
!Socorro S: Sure!
Me: Is it possible to confirm if the samsung galaxy note will be coming to T-mobile under contract?
!Socorro S: There are conditions/eligibilities to follow. However, for this request, you will need to speak with our Customer Care experts. They can be reached by dialing 611 from your handset or 1-800-937-8997
Me: Alright. Thank you for your help!
!Socorro S: Thank you for contacting T-Mobile Live Chat. Have a great day ahead of you!
!Socorro S: and, thanks much, too, for being such a wonderful and valued customer!
Me: Thank you. Have a good day.

As you can see, 1900mhz baseband for data is spreading. Looks like people with quadband radios can finally rejoice. New Orleans seems to be one of the last places to get anything, so this was a shock to me.
Is 1900 MHz the frequency that AT&T uses? I can't remember. I would love to use 3G on my Droid 3.

DROID 3: CDMA2000 800/1900, EV-DO Rev. A
GSM 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS
WCDMA 850/1900/2100
That's not what I asked. I meant does that mean 1900 MHz will be what T-Mobile will allow now that they didn't before?

We've been fairly blessed with wireless tech implementation in new orleans thoguh, we were one of the very first to get ATT LTE and had very early ATT 3g rollouts here too, as was the case with the 3g rollout The large number of events being held in the New Orleans area plays a huge role in their decisions, it was a superbowl and final four that did it for 3g and the BCS championship that did it for ATT LTE and superbowl this year as well all play a role and hey ill take it right
Sorry to bump an old thread - but New Orleans definitely has NOT been refarmed yet. I am sitting in the middle of downtown NOLA right across from Tulane Medical School and my Pre 3 only gets ****ty E.
I called 3 T Mobile stores about when the refarm is going to happen and they gave me three different answers - by the end of the month - by the end of summer - and in 3 weeks.
It has been 1 week since I called so I guess we'll see what happens.

They have no clue, anyone who knows won't be on the phone, I played the same game with them a year ago, I don't honk they'll do it till LTE isn't this market, I mean they didn't do it for 2012 when we had so many HUGE world stage events hosted here Super Bowl most recently, I mean ATT managed an Entire LTE deployment of SE Louisiana just for all the conventions and events to promote their LTE service, and its damned nice but I checked weekly with t-mobile with nothing, and the thing is, usually you know before hand when it's coming because they are doing tests at least in the CBD for a while before the officially "flip the switch.
I'm actually on the opposite end now, I'm using my tmobile mytouch 3G slide on ATT EDGE, actually do you want to meet up somewhere public and trade phones? Let me know either way, now that I'm focused on it I need to get back on at least 3G.

You DO realize that the rollout of the highspeed wireless is to encourage people to buy their phones to tether them to their home computers at a huge markup because most of the telco lines and cable is still in bad repair from disasters/floods of the recent past. Don't think for a second AT&T is being "nice", it's a marketing strategy. However, congratulations on receiving an actual usable 4G signal out there!

Should be soon. Any place that has refarmed 3g will be easy to upgrade because it's software at that point. The refarm is taking advantage of new panels and hardware that supports LTE-10 and PCS/AWS DC-HSPA all from the same panel. I think they are just testing KC/Vegas for LTE right now and apparently are having more problems getting it working right then they care to admit, as it's not as simple as UTMS is since that's an older tech and LTE-10 is brand new and not well tested.

Bad info? I used to work for AT&T a few years AFTER Katrina. That was STILL a complete and utter mess even when I started. Yes, it's been some time since I was working for the big blue Deathstar™ now, but you've never seen all the red tape inside that goes into every little stupid detail. You are correct, I was not directly responding, merely passing comment, so feel free to ignore me at your own whim.
