Should I Root My SE X10 - XPERIA X10 General

I just got a Rogers SE X10 and I noticed a few problems
1) Call Volume low
2) Lag when using dialpad
3) Screen kinda unresponsive
I know these are known problems but my question is if I root it, what problems will it fix? And what other advantages will rooting give?
Thanks!

Rooting wont fix any of the problems, but updating to the latest firmware may sort out a few issues.

As it shows Root means accessing roots of your phone (software wise) and gives you the ability to change not all but some of the section of the software which SE has implemented into your phone. Ability to delete main file from your phone and add many files which can improve the usability of your phone.
But as Haveer said, you may want to move up and upgrade your firmware which will help with some of the issues you are experiencing.

Update Firmware as in? I tried the update option in my phone but it says I have the latest version. Is there any specific app that can fix these problems?

You didn't tell us what version do you have. Go to settings/about phone and read the build number./ If you want SE to update it for you it will take sometimes to be available in your area. You may want to use the other thread about the builds.
XPERIA X10 Android Development>Decrypted x10 roms R2BA020 is the last one there but root will give you R2BA023. You need to learn how to flash it yourself. Read the instruction

It is, first one out I think. I should have worded my post in your other thread differrently. There is no advantage at present time to rooting other than you can install the latest update 023. Which in turn gives you a more sensitive screen, better battery and faster in general and you can install apps that need root.

And you haven't experienced any battery drainage?
One of the reason some people start coming to forums like here is because the manufacturer doesn't support their product as they should. So here we get ahead of them instantly. Thanks to our awesome developers. Good luck rooting, if you follow the steps right you won't have any issue. And also you can ask question in the right thread.

UPDATED: If you manually upgraded to 2.2. YOU WILL GET OTA : GOOGLE EMPLOYEE CONFIRMS

YAY MY STORY WAS POSTED TO ANDROID GUYS!!!
UPDATED: So I had to rush home after class and give everyone that definate answer that they long. This was in my email as I finally got a STRAIGHT answer from Google to the question
"Will the people that did the manual update to Froyo still receive the OTA, and did it void the warrenty? Can I get a straight Answer?"
Hi,
The answer is yes and no, respectively. When 2.2 (Froyo) is sent via OTA, everybody will get it, including those who have already manually updated to Froyo. No, your warranty is not voided by manually updating to Froyo. But we do recommend waiting for the OTA if you're still on 2.1 / Eclair.
Cheers,
Ben

I found some evidence that supports, all manual user will get the OTA, even if you updated manually.
Hi all,
Thanks for the responses!
Just wanted to give a heads up that the build floating around is not the official Froyo release. You will get an automatic notification when we OTA the build, no need to manually download it. You will still get the automatic notification if the official release is a newer version than the one you have, so don't sweat...but I'd highly recommend waiting for our official release
@Bhushan4181: You will get the OTA update as long as you are connected to the internet and can communicate with Google servers.
We are striving hard to OTA the build to you ASAP, thanks for your patience!
Gaurav.

From what I am TOLD as long as your manual update came from GOOGLE than it is still a LEGIT and offical update, just not the final, therefor you HAVE NOT voided your warrenty, and will most likely get the OTA so don't panic
P.S Those who did the manual update(me included) I would not worry about trying to roll back to 2.1. They sent out a test build via ota to testers, and when the final build comes i'm sure EVERYONE will get the OTA as it will have a different signature and what-not. How else would they get the final build to the testers?
Beautiful. Only thing missing now is a release date :|
Good find, I think its a no brainer but confirmation is good for some folks that were worried.

Ya even I was a little tweaked. Not saying we wouldn't be able to just flash it anyhow even if you are NON root. But there was alot of mixed answers not only here but all over the net, and some people were freaking out

It appears, according to the quote ' We are striving hard to OTA the build to you ASAP, thanks for your patience!' that the build is complete and it may only be the OTA to be sorted.
I hope so anyway

There is no question that there must be a newer version of froyo thats coming out. I say that because every forum I visit on this site (and other sites) have people complaining that this and that doesn't work (anymore).

I knew there would be at least one person that would point something out to try to kill the post cause they didn't find it first. Obviously it will be newer. The file that was MANUALLY downloaded was available to the media and what not, so what, they are never gonna get the final OTA. Its common sense. And like I siad even if by what slim chance you don't get the OTA, you will be able to push it manually.
Way to try to kill a post

I dont find any good reason to give/update the press or the "preview phones" some unfinished or still bugged version of 2.2
For what ? so that they review it (Froyo) and write down all the bad or not working things ... it makes no sense , at least for me ...

I don't claim to know what happened, but I'm damn sure there is more to all of this.
I cannot believe the degree to which Google has fumbled this Froyo release. They let us all think we might get it at I/O and look where we are now.....another week later...all anyone has gotten is a broken version.
I said it before and I'll say it again: Mickey Mouse time in Mountain View

Since I'm still semi new to Android, you miss out on OTA updates if you're rooted right? Does that also mean you miss out if your bootloader is unlocked?

I'm with proyaz. Given the fact that 025 is on it's way (or at least has been verified of it existence) there's not much point in updating to 023 if you are on 020...for now
Just curious for a benchmark if anyone would be so kind until 025 appears, which may or may not necessarily be better.
R2BA025 Iasn't guranteed!
It could well be a branded version of R2BA020/23.
R2BA023 Is Generic Uk
Could any one please upload the files for the latest R2BA023 firmware ....share the love people !
can someone tell me what is the advantage of rooting when we cant flash for example 2.1 or 2.2 os.
is it just because of some very minor root dependant apps or?
as i dont modify my system files, i dont see any reason to root it before there is the possibility to flash newer os ex 2.2 froyo.
thanks in advance
The advantage is that we can modify system files. Just because you don't do it doesn't mean noone else does.
The ability to tweak the living daylights out of the phone is golden for me.
Oh, it's also a requirement for any work to be done on the bootloader so we'll be able to flash custom images in the future.

Updated last night, not no root
Hi Guys,
I updated last night on 3 in the UK, I'm now running the following versions and was previously rooted with Z4Root, but this has now stopped...also the update claims (on Sony website) to add pinch zooming to web browsing and googlemaps, however it doesn't work at all well for me Also talks about improved performance, but phone seems a little slower if anything.
Interested if anyone else on 3 has updated and found similar?
Firmware Verions 2.1 - update1
Baseband Version 2.0.49
Kernel Version 2.6.29 ([email protected] #1)
Build Number 2.0.2.A.0.24
Also I can confirm my Android Market still works fine
EDIT: Just noticed the others mention a different build, think my update went wrong?
Many thanks
Dan

The 3 update has only updated you to the first build of 2.1. The problem with many operators is they are very slow in adding thir 'tweaks' to the generic firmware so take ages before they finally release their branded version (ask those that are on AT&T!!!). To get the multitouch (and most recent) update the easiest way would be to flash with global generic (as it is still not released on uk generic).
Thanks for the info, I wonder if you could help me understand this a little better, when you say Flash to generic firmware, does this only update the component listed as Firmware in my version numbers or will this bring up the basebands and other versions?
Also when I read a lot of the forum messages and posts they all assume a certain amount of knowledge or rather background on either Android or on the device, which coming from an iPhone I'm not familiar with. I am however familiar with flashing old PDA's with baked ROM's and so forth, so not totally stupid (I hope) and I work in IT, but would appreciate not having to read pages and pages to get the simple facts Let's face it who likes to read the manuals anyway Any links or words of advice (polite please) would be much appreciated
Many thanks in advance.

What he means is, he got a working phone with no bugs. He took a backup. And shared it here. He has not tested restoring it.
Above is not literal, just giving you example to understand.
By backup I mean he created ftf. By restore I mean he has not yet flashed his own ftf.

Still didn't get the Android P update. Anyone can help?

So basically I've tried every method shown in YouTube or XDA on how to get the update but I still haven't received it. Should I worry about this or am I just a little impatient.
Important information:
After receiving the November 1st update my phone entered in a bootloop without any reason, I suspect it was due to the Google Cam app that I had installed while on 7.1 however I made it to 8.1 without having any issue so I doubt it. Anyway, after this bootloop I had no other option than to make a factory reset (loosing Gcam in the process). I was so pleased with the improvements the Google Cam made that I felt the necessity of installing it again. However, if used the same method that I did for the first time it would end in a factory reset since it had to unlock the bootloader. I found a solution on a thread which mentioned that this factory reset could be avoided if you press the volume down button while unlocking the bootloader. This worked fine. So what I did was unlock the bootloader, momentarily install Magisk, enable Camera2Api by flashing a module, uninstall Magisk and then lock the bootloader again. A restart later I had my phone working with Google Cam again (and still having to this day).
So my question is:
Could this affect in any way my OTA updates and be the reason why I'm not getting Android P?
Sorry for the long post but I had to make sure all this details were cleared.
I'll wait for a response :fingers-crossed:
You have seen all threads (both here and at miui.com) about broken networks?
The update was buggy, the phone should support LTE band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 38, 40.
After Pie update it only supports 1, 3, 5, 40, 41.

Thanks for the replys.
I didn't want to sound desperate about the issue and if the update is having problems or bugs I don't know if I'm still very interested.
