Coming from a hero I got my Evo yesterday and wow. Anyway I will be rooting it. Questions are should I update it to the 1.47 version. It is currently on 1.32.651.6 Is there any real benefit or disadvantage to doing this? I have been reading on here for hours and I really haven't found an answer. As far as methods to root this bad boy. I want full root with nandroid not just the unrevoked method. Any recommendations that don't use adb? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

So i recently rooted my MT4G and all and that really killed my brain haha. And i wasnt sure if i wanted to keep it rooted. So i read one of the post how to unroot. I was quite confused. Its pretty much like the same process as to root it. Now i watch a video on youtube where a guy used a program to root it and unroot it was With a special program or something and i was curious to know if anyone was working on something like that or knows of something like that in the future.
Even though its a different HTC phone. I was just wondering if some day it will be that easy to root and unroot.
I cant post a link yet because this is my first post. but go to youtube.com> seach How to unroot your mytouch 4g. And one came up as How to Root and Unroot your Samsung vibrant. 2.24
There are guides on how to root and unroot in the android development section. I can't imagine why you would want to unroot? it doesn't hurt anything and even if you never install a custom rom it is still good to have to backup your current rom and apps with ROM Manager and titanium.
Although the process is not a one click solution it is almost. temp root with visionary r14. Copy one file and run it from the terminal app on the phone then use visionary r14 to permroot with one click
Please post questions in Q&A Section.
Well it did hurt the wifi. Cause i keep getting Error. And when i looked at the solution patch to fix it. i went what the ****?!?!?! im more of the visual learner. If there are videos on how to root/unroot or whatever it would make my life alot easier.
To unroot its the same process as to rooting just put the unroot folder in?
I just bought a used Motorola Atrix for a great price and was looking at some of the ways to root the device and everything I have seen makes me very nervous to try anything at the moment.
I have rooted several Nexus One and Nexus S phones and never had any issues but I have been reading that the bootloader and firmware on the Atrix is nothing like any of the devices I have done in the past.
I would love to root and flash a nice custom stable ROM because after being spoiled using CM7, the stock ROM is not going to cut it. Anyone know of a good root method I could use without the fear of bricking this lovely device? Or should I just wait for a better stable process to come down the pike? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So first your going to have to be on 1.26 to get a root. If you've already updated to 1.57 (the OTA update) then you need to flash back to 1.26. Instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
Then you can root, retain that root, update to 1.57 (OTA Update), and get your root back. Instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
Then after you are done updating and getting your root back, you can install CWM (this is what the current roms are using to install), much better than adb. Instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019143
Then you can either use GladAtrix Rom or Gingerblur (this is what I'm currently running). Both of these will deodex your system, theme your atrix, and give you the option to install various mods/hacks. Check the dev forum to see which one you think you would rather have.
Got all that???
I know it seems like a lot, but if you read and follow the directions, it's pretty fool proof, despite all the noob questions and problems to the contrary. If you have any questions or problems, just ask.
Swiftks...you should take you're reply and post it in general as a basic how to for the atrix...

I want to root my phone, and am new at this. Where can I find an EXTREMELY simple youtube tutorial on what to use to root my MT4G running gingerbread 2.3.4. Any suggestions? If so, please email me at mytouch4g2011 (at) gmail (.) com
Thank you very much in advance.

I don't think there's a way to root 2.3.4
Maybe Gingerbreak? But never seen it.
Or you could use the PD15IMG.zip to go back to FROYO then use the other two methods to root like root.sh or gfree.
I too am new at this, however I have been told you can't root if you are running 2.3.4. I've heard it will be weeks but again, I'm new and am going by what I've been told.

I don't think you can downgrade back to Froyo from 2.3.4 either. I tried and it stated the software was older that the current version.
Please, try searching before posting additional thread on the subject. There are 3 threads each day with the same question.

Hey guys,
i have been reading the dev forums quite a bit but ever since this new 4.5.91 update came out, i still am unsure if i can update safely without problems
i have a 4.1.83 and android 2.2.2 phone (U.S. MB860) and I had rooted it using the GLADROOT method. i want to update to the new 4.5.91 and android 2.3.4
but it seems there are a lot of issues with hardbricking and softbricking the devices, and i may not have the time to troubleshoot such a scenario. can anyone direct me in the right direction as to if i can update safely and then re-root the phone?
Thanks in advance.
bumppp
any help would really be appreciated
thanks.

I have the same phone and the exact scenario you do. When I was on 2.2 I had rooted with gladroot.
I was able to update to 2.3.4 via OTA update. You should be able to update without any problem.
However, know that once you go to 2.3.4 YOU MAY NEVER FLASH AN OLD BUILD IN ATTEMPT TO DOWNGRADE.
Example.. If you update to 2.3.4 and decide to a sbf 4.1.83 build you now have a $600 paper weight.
here is the method I used to re-root my phone after the update.

Sorry it took so long for you to get a response. Good luck!
hey i have the lastest update on my mytouch 4g so my question can I still downgrade to 2.2.1 and root? please help me out thanks
I'm guessing by latest update you mean gingerbread 2.3.4...and yes you can downgrade and root 2.2.1.
The right way to know would be trying to root fre3vo and seeing if the exploit still works. No need to ask the forum for that, as most people won't be able to answer you, having their phones rooted long time ago.
