(Android) Text Messages Jumbled - Touch CDMA General

Sometimes when I receive a text message all I see are a jumble of Asian letters and not English, and obviously I have no way of knowing what the actual message is. Is there a fix to this or is it just a fault with the network?
(sorry, I meant to post this in the General forum)

Moved to General.

I'm on Bell using Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2, with latest radio version (I'm pretty sure, if not one older).

Im on bell aswell running incubus Froyo 2.2 ver. 10.5 and have the same issue.. very annoying.
I also have the latest radio.

Can anyone help?

Cutting down possibilities
Do you know if it's only for Bell?
Does it happen using different radio versions?
Do you know if some other devices like Kaiser, Polaris or Nike are affected, too?
I want to know if this is a common issue to add it to this list:

Build number

So I have this build number in the "about phone" section of my sparkling new Hero: 2.73.1100.5
Is this the old one ? Because I try to download the 2.73.405.5 one from the HTC site and when I enter my device serial number it says that this update is not suitable for it ??
Soooo ... Thanks for any clarifications
It could be that if you have a branded HTC Hero like a T-Mobile G2 Touch, like me, that you will have to wait for the network branded version.

Hmmm it should not be branded, it's a simlock free phone, suitable for any provider ...
In that case, disregard my comment, as it's not that
What country was this from?

Disregarded ...
I'll have a more thorough look this evening ... Maybe the serial number on the box is different then the phone's serial number... Would be weird but anyway.
Anyone else that has any ideas, bring em on
reason I say is that it has been found that non english countries have different builds (for vaious reasons.) it is found that the version number is 2.73 and the rest after that is for localization
is this not the benelux build? That one has no youtube app, so prob that is why you can not update

HERO ROM upgrade on HTC support site!

Don't know if this is the fabled 2.1 ROM or not
Put in my serial number and it says its not suitable for my device
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=840&news_id=461
Anyone know what it is??
The ROM version is 2.73.771.73, so it is just a carrier version (Three) of the 2.73.xxx builds we already have.

Dave

correct me if i am wrong, but the newest version so far was 2.73.xxx.66, so this 2.73.xxx.73 should be newer? afaik the xxx part is the carrier, while the two last digits are the rom "revision"...

It may well be slightly newer, but the point is that it is still just another Cupcake ROM and as such, not really anything to get too excited about!

i sort of agree with you on this, nevertheless if you keep on mind the performance boost from .61 to .66release it is at least worth a look... maybe someone can upload it somewhere so we can have a look?
It's been asked for too on this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614053&page=2
As of yet, nothing, but if anyone feels like PM-ing their device number (or telling me how to modify mine to get access to it, as in the good old 'swap the last two digits to get access to stock RUUs), I'd be happy to upload it (I'm on cable so should get a decent upload speed to mediafire).

any one tried the new TMO ROM ? came out on the 26

So which version is the right version for TMOUS from your link?
There is none.
I got mine on the 22nd, Tmobile US (tmous?)
How can I check if I have this rom?
"Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
That's the error you get if you put in a TMOUS HD2 S/N #.

Yes... from the UK HTC website...
the point here is that tmouk is a different model than the tmous. the radio, rom sizes and base drivers will be the 1.x series and not the 2.x series the tmous device needs.

Some people dont take the time to read some stuff. A little research goes a long way. Not only is it different but the sizes differ some.. Why would you risk it?!

Because most people don't read. They don't actually know that they are risking it (even though most tutorials in both HD2 sections state in bold red letters to make sure that the device type is the correct one.

Sometimes people need to be told because they are unable to learn the basics before "trying stuff" from an "Developers" website.
I know they should be doing the research but it only takes a line of text to clear it up. I know it's can be quite daunting when you first hit the site and trying to find out exactly the answer to your question takes time.

ROM for G2 Hero

Can anybody offer me a ROM that runs steady and has Google Maps and Navigation built into it, in other words the google maps Beta proggie that is currently running.
Also does anyone know if BBC Iplayer will run on the G2 as oppose to beebplayer which will not play 'Live' TV on my Hero?
And also if possible something wth Exchange Mail added or Touchdown?
Regards Ray

You have the SPRINT American Hero, right?
google maps is ok but i much prefer the I-GO navigation app, it's not free unless you search for it.
HeroMeng Thanks no its not the Sprint American Hero, I dont think, its the UK version 3 mobile. If this is the wrong info please let me know as I'm a nube !!
Fixxxer2008, where do I get your roms from? Do you have a link?

Wrong thread...you want the Hero G2 Development thread.
This is the Hero CDMA Development thread.
And don't get me started why they would name two completely different phones the same name.
That was very very dangerous thing you did.
If you loaded a CDMA ROM onto your GSM phone you would have bricked it. Be very careful. If you load any ROM other then the one for your phone there is nothing anyone on these forums can do for you. Your phone would be dead and unrecoverable.
Are you sure about that? Because I think flashing wrong rom would make you unable to load the rom, but you would still be able to enter recovery and flash a new rom. I've been told that the only really dangerous thing you could flash is wrong radio, but I might be mistaken.

The CDMA kernel flashed onto a GSM hero (or vice versa) can cause major damage IIRC. I think it tells the radio drivers to use a different voltage
But I may be wrong.
DON'T TRY IT THOUGH!
With regards to the original request, I would suggest trying VillainROM 5.5.0 if you're after a normal Hero ROM, and SlideVillain 1.1.0 if you're after a really fast port of the MyTouch Slide's ROM.
Personally, I use SlideVillain because of the sheer speed of it.
If you are interested in the VillainROM route, check out www.villainrom.co.uk

KL3 Improvements/Changes List

1. Favorites is now spelled correctly when set to US English in the dialer! (Can any UK English users confirm if "Favourites" still exists when using UK English?)
2. Disabling of Airplane mode now gives a pop-up confirmation.
3. Polar Office is updated.
4. The ICS theme elements in the dialer seem to have been removed. Back to standard TW.
Any others you've noticed?
The getting called screen is back to how it was before KL1, phone icon is back too. I'm talking about KL1 dev-release.
Ha ha, favourites is the correct spelling here in the UK and favorites is the bad spelling.

Well, yes, I should have said that Favorites is spelled correctly in US English, which is the version I use.
Is it incorrectly using the US Spelling when setting the default to UK English where it should then read "Favourites" as it did before in both?
Too bad, because if it is, the dialer surely has the option to change languages completely, because if I set my phone to use Spanish, everything changes correctly.
I just prefer US English. I have edited the OP to better reflect this.

But seriously, one thing I've appreciated about this forum is the international flavour and lack of needless jabs at people from Xyz.

Thanks for noticing, and I agree. The international "flavor" of this place is something I enjoy!
The comment wasn't intended as a display any nationalism on my part, because (obviously) as you pointed out, I'm not an American, I just prefer (when not using Spanish) to use US English in my phone, which I tend to do almost all the time, and I was just wondering if the error was still there in the dialer, because I know that it was there until KL3, and it sort of bothered me because it showed a level of sloppiness of Samsung's part that they didn't devote much attention to the small details such as UI language, etc.
I wasn't trying to start a war with Canada, because I can see how using the same colors as the US flag, when combined with the similar use of stars (though, in fairness, we are missing 48 of them) can be confusing at times.
Peace.
No need to explain your spelling preference. Apologies for the derailment.

I use KL1 and think it is the best one so far, specially the modem! Is this 2.3.6 as well?

Yes it's newer. K=2011 L=December #=build number. Modem is same though. If you want a newer modem use KP1.
I couldn't get accuweather widget to locate me, tried dozens of times. Got a lock in Maps then immediately went to the widget, nothing. The Accuweather portion of the Desk Clock would locate me, but not the dumb widget. Then I turned Bluetooth on and instantly got a lock. weird.

Anyone can post a wipe version of KL3? I having problem flashing the non-wipe version.
I'm very reluctant to flash as im happy with KL1 can someone who was using KL1 and is now using this confirm whether or not it is any better as KL1 is excellent IMO.
