I recently bought an Aria, and there is no looking back. My previous phone was a fuze. All of my data is backed up on Microsofts Myphone service, I've been able to retrieve most of my data and contacts since Android auto syncs with GMAIL. However, I have a lot of data "stuck" on microsoft myphone. Is there a way to extract that data? Microsoft doesnt seem to have any export service on the site. Is there any easy way to do this? I'd rather not spend hours manually adding contacts into GMAIL while browsing the myphone page.
My suggestion is to put your sim back into your old phone, setup Google Sync to sync everything from your old phone to Gmail. I don't think there will ever be Android to MyPhone sync.
How to export from Microsoft MyPhone to CSV for Gmail
I know this post is quite old but I thought I'd post my solution here to save others time. It took me quite a while to get the CSV format right but it works.
First goto the myphone contacts page and right click-> view source.
Just up from the bottom of the source, you will find all the contact details wrapped in some ugly JavaScript. Copy it into a new text file (I used Notepad).
Repeat this for all the pages of your contacts.
At the very start of the text file, add this line:
Name,Mobile Phone,Home Phone,Other Phone,E-mail Address,E-mail 2 Address
It can be edited to whatever fields you want but these map perfectly into your gmail contacts. There isnt any very good documentation on which fields to use so it's trial and error.
Now go through and edit out all the JavaScript so you're left with just the data. I used Find/Replace to remove a lot of it then went through and tidied it all up manually, adding in the commas and sorting it into the correct order for the fields above. Its a long process but is easier than manually re-entering everything.
Go through and check it's all correct and the comma's are all in the right place. Each contact entry should be a new line and don't leave blank lines.
Save your file. You can now open it in a spreadsheet program to check all the fields line up correctly.
Now try it - goto your Gmail contacts and click "More Actions" -> "Import". Select your CSV file. I recommend adding them to an empty group so its easy to check them and delete them if it doesn't work correctly.
Click Import. Now go through and check them. If its not quite correct, delete them and try again. If you find certain details end up in the Notes field then it means you've used an incorrect field name.
I'm sure someone can write a nice script to do this all but I really don't have the time at the moment and I've already done it manually.
Hope this helps and Microsoft..... you should really have an export option!
I did this way when I jump to android world from WM:
I synced all contacts with outlook. Then export to CSV file from outlook, and imported to gmail contacts those files. I cant remember how exactly but u can find easily with google.
Thank you, it solved my problem (not without some work, but nevertheless in a small fraction of the time)

OMG!!! What a horrible day!
I removed an exchange email today n quickly found out later that all my contacts n calendar were tied to it and i now hv to source for a OST to PST converter... argh...
Then I went on to set up my new pst file n tried to sync my mobile's contacts n calendar into the new outlook. First it says... attention required bcoz it was a wrong personal folder. So i deleted the device and added one back so it can now be linked to the new default calendar n contacts.
I carefully select on the device in the event of duplicate "mobile replace desktop" or somethign similar.
&^&(&#*#^ ACTIVE SYNC CLEARED MY CONTACTS n CALENDAR!!
I am .... argh..... so mad!!!!
As this is a new phone, i had only had a chance of sync it a wk ago n havent gone ard BACK UP!
PLEASEEEEEEEE HELP!!!!!!
And if any of you is able to help me convert my OST to PST file... I WOULD BE FOREVER GRATEFUL!! I hate EXCHANGE n I HEREBY HATE ACTIVE SYNC!!
Can someone also recomend what other sync appl can I use to replace active sync?
This may or may not help you........ I had the same thing happen to me, if you have OUTLOOK (NOT EXPRESS, OR OTHERS) then your contacts will be in the deleted tab.......... open outlook and recover........
Ouch, that's got to hurt
Glad I don't use ActiveSync (coded by pre teens) or Outlook (the target of all that malware)
Sorry for not helping
wise lesson: always make a backup, wich can be done on pc(outlook) as on your phone.....
sorry for not solving your problem, without a backup it's very difficult I think
so, you deleted your contacts, not ActiveSync itself, but sh*t happens man, life sometimes s*cks. Remember - ALLAYS make a full backup of your contacts
Since you have an .ost file, I assume you can still open your exchange account (cached) in Outlook. If you can, then create a PST file.
Go File > New > Outlook Data file, name it, save it somewhere you can easily find.
Once the PST is created, you wil have Personal Folders (default name)
Right click on the folder > New folder. Select Contact items on the dropdown, name it Contacts.
Now go to your Contacts under the Mailbox, Set view to Phone list or By Category to put them in a list, then drag the contact items to the Contact folder in the Personal folder.
If you want to move calendar items, Create a Calendar folder first, same steps as above.
If you really need to convert OST to PST, go here
I migrated to a new computer and while synchronizing with activesync, my whole contact list on my HTC Touch Pro 2 got deleted/replaced by the empty contact list from Outlook 2007. Unfortunately I had no backup yet (old computer was stolen). Is there a way to reverse the sync. Maybe there is a hidden backup file from WM. Could anyone help?
Hi Guys,
I'm new to xda-dev and I'll get my nexus one tomorrow or on monday (DHL screwed up delivery yet again here in London).
The first most important thing for me is to import my 500+ contacts from my Nokia N97 to the nexus and I have no clue how to do this since it's a different OS.
Can someone please guide me in details asap??
I heard about the using mail for exchange sync (steps needed) and this thing called "sprite migrate" (google it as I'm barred from posting links for now) which has free apps for Nokia (symbian) n Nexus (android) to do it.
Has anyone ever used any of these?? Also I have my Nokia contacts etc. backed up on the latest version of Ovi suite if that can be used as well.
Thanks a lot and please reply.
PS: I did a search and did not find a relevant thread answering this so please make this exhaustive.
I'd focus on getting your n97 contacts into Outlook Express/Windows mail/Etc first. Most contact formats can be imported into Gmail (and thus automatically synced to your N1)
But the n97->something on windows step is pretty nokia specific so I can't help you there.
I did the same thing for my gf and her N85. First, go into your Nokia's settings and copy all contacts to your SIM card. Then when you put your SIM card into your N1, you can import all the contacts off the SIM. Voila.
Thanks guys, my phone just arrived n i'll try the simple sim copy first (how do we forget such basic things!)...if not then the sprite migrate app sounds totally brilliant after reading the manual...copies bookmarks, texts, music, pics etc too!!
i had over 600 contacts and couldnt copy it to SIM. Instead i installed mail exchange on my n97 and synced with google contacts. Then it automatically synced with my Nexus one. Good luck.
Download the nokia pc suite. Install. It will read your contacts when you connect the nokia to the pc. From the suite export as csv file.
Go to gmail, create a dummy entry with the fileds you will need. Export from gmail contacts as csv.
Then open nokia csv file in excel and also gmail csv in excel.
Copy paste nokia csv contacts to the right columns in the gmail csv file.
when done, save gmail csv file and import back to gmail. Then synch contacts form the nexus. They will magically appear on the phone.
My contacts where 548. Everything worked smooth.
If something appears wrong, then check again/correct gmailcsv file on the pc and to the same procedure again. delete contacts from gmail beforehand.
You could install MailForExchange and sync your contacts directly to Google, as per here: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=147951
I used that to migrate from N95 to N1
Thing you're SOL with the messages though, I'm afraid.

You shouldn't need to create a dummy entry. I managed to get contacts off a nokia 5800, by simply exporting the csv from pc suite and uploading it direct through gmail.
hey i am using ovi suite with my nokia phone and i have all my contacts synced there and i tried syncing them with outlook then exporting csv and importing it into gmail. but there are some faults with this. some fields are not created in outlook (like nickname) and when i have more than one number assigned to a contact sometimes the second number or the third is not added to outlook. how can i exactly export my contacts as they are on my ovi suite ?
Screw OVI. Like I said above, use MailForExchange.
Ok, a lot of people immediately advocate Google Sync. Here's the problem and it's a KNOWN ISSUE with S60. Google Sync using MfE will NOT copy the different phone #s of the same contact. This was a problem for me. Sure only like 10-20 contacts of mine had multiple #s listed under their name, but I didn't want to go through line by line and fix it.
So you can:
1) Use Outlook to deal with it which should do it flawlessly
2) Use SIM (but I highly recommend you to look elsewhere and not use this)
3) I settled and instead of bothering with Outlook and installing PC Suite and crap, I decided to use Mac OSX. I have heard friends telling me how they plug in random dumbphones into their Mac and it does it all. Yeah. It did. My N82 synced FLAWLESSLY with iSync which comes built in. This is the one time I'm going to act like a retarded Mac user and scream "OMG my mac does everything." Somehow it just handles pulling contacts off FLAWLESSLY. It got the multiple #s for my contacts. I synced it onto my Moto Milestone without any trouble. Yay!
As for your SMS and maybe other info, try this:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/ - Look for Sprite Migrate software. It's free.
I tried it on my N82 but it failed. I submitted an error log, and it seems someone else had some issues with FP1 devices, and the manufacturer is aware. However you're on S60v5 so you might have better luck. People don't care about FP1 devices anymore so I think I'm SOL. Give it a try. Trust me I've looked into this issue a lot and I've crossposted on 20 forums about this (ok more like 2-3).
GoogleSync via MfE does copy all numbers for each contact, lots of mine have multiple numbers and all made it to GoogleContacts.
Not only that, it also copied the contacts pictures, their birthdays, etc.
SPRITE MIGRATE sounds ace!

http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/migrate/how-does-it-work-
I just did the simple copy to sim and then to N1 method and then sorted duplicates out on google contacts site.
But I read about "sprite migrate" which is free and seems to transfer all messages/contacts nicely. Apps available on ovi store and android market to get u going as their instructions state. Let us know.
Easiest way ever
It's pretty simple:
1) get rid of Nokia Ovi Suite
2) Go to Nokia website and downloads Nokia Pc Suite ( i got version 7.1.51)
3) Follow on screen intructions for app install & phone connection
4) With the phone connected, click on the "contacts" icon (blue phone book). It will open Nokia Communicator, and a list with all your contacs
5) Select all of them( click on the first one, then go for CTRL + A)
6) Go to: File > Export
7) Choose a file name and location.
8) Go into: Gmail > Contacts > More actions > Import
9) Pick the csv file you just created, and have a nice and easy import
Congratulations on

Does any one have problem with sync contacts with gmail account?
I have contacts in my phone. How to synchronize them with gmail?
Mail is synchronizing ok, but contacts...
When i tryed new rom-s i must sync with my PC all time, but i want to back them in my phone from gmail. I's it possible?
TY
You first need to enable the contacts sync. -≥ Go to Settings - Data Synchronization - Google and put a checkmark on Contacts.
On your phone, if you go to contacts, you see on the right side of the contact's name the word phone(this means the contact is a phone contact) You have three types of contacts - phone, google and sim contacts. All of your contacts need to be google contacts, if you want to sync them with google. You can probably manually convert every single phone contact to google contact, but that would take a lot of time.
So to speed up things, you need to do this:
You need to transfer all your contacts to your computer, Outlook or such. Then delete all your contacts from the phone. From outlook you need to export all contacts to the .csv or .vcard file. Then go to Gmail and import all your contacts from .csv file. Connect your tattoo to the internet and again go to settings - data synchronization - Google, press menu and choose Sync now. It will then transfer all your contacts from gmail to your phone. Then all your contacts will become google contacts and you will be able to sync them with Gmail.
In the future, when you create a new contact on your phone, be sure to select google as type of the contact to be able to sync it with gmail.
But be very careful with this, make a backup of all your contacts before you do this.
Bye
My contact have letters: š, ć,.. and few more letters that show ? ? instead of š, ć when i'm export contacts from outlook.. I's there any other way to convert phone to google contacts? TY
I did a bit of research on this and there seems to be no other way to convert contacts from phone to google...i found this answer from htc on one of the forums:
HTC >>There is no default setting to always store a contact as google.
If you wish create a contact save it as google and create another one, if its set to google already then it does remember if not then you'll have to do this manually.
Unfortunately it is not possible to convert all contacts to google ones, it can only be done by re-adding each individual contact.

In phone or SIM?
Just make sure you enable the sync in Settings as noted above and enable background data; every contact should be then synced between server and phone (but I'm not sure about SIM contacts, probably not) when you go online with your phone.
Many of my contacts even have Serbian Cyrillic letters (абвгдђежзијклљ...) and everything works just fine, no matter if they were created in Google Contacts online (www.google.com/contacts) or in my phone.
However, I haven't try sync between phone and Outlook because I use Ubuntu and Google Contacts only
Dejan i have tried this...i created a phone contact and tried to sync it with google and it doesn't work for me....the contact needs to be a google contact. But for the ščćžđ letters, yes gmail supports them in contact names, sorry for misleading you.
I solve problem.
With program expcontacts export all people to sdcard in csv format.
Delete all contacts from phone.
Import csv file from sdcard to gmail contacts.
Sync contacts with gmail.
Great workaround Liderzre, skipping the whole outlook thing, for the people who don't use windows and outlook or for the people who don't want outlook to mess up letters čćžšđ in their contact names
Thanks for the great app. All in order now, but not syncing...oh well on to remedy another problem.

for some reason the app only add the contacts that i have on my Gmail account to the CSV file... anyone else having this problem?
update: ok i had to use another app but now my contacts are in my gmail account YAY the app name is UiA - Backup Contacts
I've had my hd2 for a few months now and I've updated the rom on it a few times, experimenting with both stock and cooked versions. Each time I've used Microsoft Myphone to backup my contacts, caledar, etc. However when I use it to download my contacts, I get duplicates, between 2-5 duplicates.
I've logged into myphone on the web and there is only 1 copy of each contact, any idea what causes this or how to fix it?
Thanks
woah i never had that problem with Myphone, erm, double check myphone page for your account, task 29 your phone and format mem card just couple of things might make a difference,
or long way round delete your duplicates create a new myphone account and then save them to the new account and see if the problems still persist
I also had this problem. Not all contacts are duplicated only some. I think this happens when you close myphone before it has finished doing it's job.
I too had thhis problem. If you log into MyPhone via a pc and look around you will see 'archives'. I deleted these (making sure that the correct contacts were as they should be in the main list).
No more duplicates

Did you delete all the archive contacts? When I looked, there were only 2 duplicates whereas almost all of my contacts on my phone are duplicated.
Thanks

Not sure why it happens, but they seem to know it does, there is a duplicate finder on the my phone page, you can then delete the dupes and sync ...
I deleted all the items in my archive and searched for all duplicates, so I only have 1 on each contact on myphone. I updated my rom and downloaded my contacts again with myphone and still ahd duplicates. I'm starting to think that it's not worth the effort :s I suppose there are other backup apps that will save the same info. The only difference between them and myphone is finding a lost phone, is this feature any good?
..
The problem is when you sync with myPhone and also have synced with outlook contacts..
You can also buy an application on marketplace. Dont remember what its called: something with duplicate.. but it works..
Not really a solution but this software will help you fix duplicate entries:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-trinefix.html
works great i've used it on my HD2 and it's free!
are you restoring a pim backup when you flash?
That would create duplicates once you sync'd with MyPhone ..

No I'm not. On the last flash of the rom, I didn't use any backups and didn't download contacts using windows live as I've done before. I just used myphone service after deleting all the archive items and still got duplicates :s
It's a huge pain because im sure the number of duplicates is growing each time I restore.
That's actually quite weird.
1) Are you backing up any of the folders / files from \Application Data? - I tried that once hoping that it would speed up the configuration process of MyPhone everytime I flashed (which is a LOT!) and it completely screwed everything up.
2) Are you absolutely sure that you haven't set up any Sync options with Windows Mobile Device Center / ActiveSync / Outlook on your desktop?
3) Are you absolutely sure that you don't use Exchange over ActiveSync for emails? (You could have accidentally enabled the Contacts Sync feature) (If you use UC, then you might have provisioned an Exchange Email account and might not realise it)
I have a suggestion.
1) Disable MyPhone
2) Delete all the redundant contacts. (It's painful I know)
3) Use PIM Backup and save all your contacts (as a backup just in case something goes wrong)
4) Hard Reset (Make sure you don't use XDA_UC / SDConfig Customization)
5) Clear out your MyPhone account. Delete EVERYTHING. ALL CONTACTS + ARCHIVES.
6) Restore your PIM Backup contacts.
7) Re-run MyPhone and see how it goes.
Sometimes the best thing with Sync Mechanisms is always to start fresh.

I did another hard reset. Deleted all my tasks and contacts from the web Myphone login.
I'm backing up a few folders, only things like pictures, music and my documents.
I'm using WM Device Center on my desktop and syncing everything except emails, where would those files be kept? I'll see if there are duplicates there.
It happened again, so I'm going to check over my WM Device Centre settings like you suggested. I wonder why that keeps duplicating them though!
Thanks for all the help guys
Found a solution - Duplicates - Microsoft My Phone
Hi All,
I had the same problem on my HTC HD2, and was able to solve it.
Log on to your account at .... microsoft
First remove dublicates on this account by tools available on-screen (Contacts>find dublicates>toggle all>remove dublicates)
Tab on "Connected Phones" on the left.
You should find only one phone connected to your account.
I found two phones, each with a "date added" field corresponding to the date when I installed the "Microsoft Myphone" app on my device.
I installed this application twice, first was when I first bought my phone with stock rom and the second when I installed it after a rom upgrade.
Two phones on your account (Same HTC HD2)will synchronize same contact from each one to your phone!! Does make sense though weired.
Remove all un-needed phones.
Do synchronization again from your phone and all duplicates will vanish.

Thanks, worked for me removing the archive from myphone (it was somehow accumulating contacts and calendar events)
Hi Guys
Like a few of us here, after a soft reset, I *sometimes* find that my pop3 accounts have disappeared leaving me with just 'Outlook' and 'Hotmail'
Having posted a thread about this and not got (m)any suggestions I've decided to look at it another way...or at least ask another question
Here we go then:
Is there anyway to export a particular registry setting or settings that would contain ALL my email account details? I've got a registry editor on my HD2...just need to know what to export if it's possible. I'm not fussed about the actual messages themselves, just the pop3/smtp/username/password stuff
Most of the email info is in the databases, not the registry. SK Tools allows you to export email accounts with the Pim info tool. It's the way to go.
Exporting email accounts
Hey FT
Thanks for the quick reply. I've got SK Tools on the HD2. I looked under the PIM Information options and I can see the account names but am I backing up the *settings*? If I select the check boxes for the relevant accounts...it looks like I'm backing up the MESSAGES (based on the 'count' in the message column)
Sorry to be a bit thick, but I want to ensure I'm backing up the right stuff
All you do is long press on an account, and then select 'export' from the context menu. It exports the account as an xml, and it may also export emails; I always delete my emails, so that field is empty for me. To restore, you just select 'import' from the action menu.
The real question is what did you mess up in the rom so that it doesn't save the email settings? Did you leave out any sys packages, or remove xip modules?
search for rapiconfig. It lets you extract Email, Wifi and Sync information. You can find it in SDAutoRun thread.
Brilliant F Ted- no I didn't mess up the rom, AFAIK it's a bug on the HD2 that sometimes deletes email accounts
