I'm tired of looking at this bloatware!!!
I'll donate $20 to the first guy who nails it.
Peace.
Be patient grasshopper! It will happen in due time.
Why dont you root it if you want it so bad.
Hate to be a ****, but its your own damn fault. Hundreds of times it was posted NOT to update the phone and wait for a ROM based off the official release or wait until root was achieved. Didnt read em? TFB. I hope no one EVER achieves root this time.

So i got one with root and one thats rooted and I gotta say this yes all these posts whining need to stop. But I do want to say why not? There aren't any roms as fast as this right now and everytime that there is a good one it gets ****ed up or forgotten before its done. The only thing that has any hope is the froyo thing right now because all the devs are working on it together.
I hate to admit it but I agree one hundred percent with dark shnieder. A million times we all said dont install the new signed 2.1 releAse and this shows that ignorance is the downfall for those who do not listen. Do yourselfs a favor all u ppl who installed stock 2.1... when the community tells you not to do something don't ****ing do it. Now deal with your ignorance until 2.1 is rooted.
I don't care one way or the other, I've had working 2.1 for months and I am very happy with it. If you were dumb enough to flash a ROM without researching it first, you get what you deserve. I've been running damages ROM's since they came out and have had little to no issues. I am currently running 2.08.1 and have no problems at all. So, if they come out with another update to DC or not, I'm am very happy with the ROM I have.
Hell, Ive been running ports of Android versions since Donut started to get ported (it wasnt a daily for me since I couldnt get SMS working) then played around with early 2.1 builds. I can say I was one of the few that actually saw all these 2.1 ROMs evolve from pretty basic stuff, kinda like what Froyo is right now.
I learned my lesson back with the PSP: "do not update to the latest and greatest if you know the community will come up with better stuff in days if not hours of that release".
Not everyone flashed the 2.1 RUU. I took my phone in for service and it was deemed hardware failure. They gave me a brand new phone and installed 2.1 on it without asking me if I wanted it. I asked for another phone with 1.5 and they said no LOL. So I am stuck with 2.1 stock until someone figures out how to root it. And I can't wait, because some of the ROMs I have been reading about sound real nice.

I would wait on the root and keep it private until froyo gets released, the rooting process you guys do come up with might get heard by the wrong person and they could patch it in froyo. this is a common practice when it comes to hacking devices that i have seen, once exploits are found generally the dev waits for the next update that way it can be rooted as well. Just my opinion...

Usually, root is device specific (I think). If Google releases Froyo after our "2.1 root", it most likely wont be patched since the Hero is not on the list to get that upgrade.
Okay now that FroYo is supposedly coming in a few "weeks"... Will we have to root it the same way or will it be simpler?
Hopefully unrEVOked comes up with 2.2 rooting for the LEGEND.
We won't know until it arrives and the guru's have had a peak... Maybe HTC will release it S-OFF
It will be WEEKSSSSSS before we see anything... it could be Christmas or New Years Eve...

They have no reason to do that.
EDIT: Notice - this was originally posted in the Hero CDMA General forums and was moved by a mod here. If you are lost about all the HeroC discussion, this is why.
My Hero is getting to be jealous of all these big brothers... http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/04/htc-evo-4g-shift-handled-on-video-by-wirefly/
Tempting. I do enjoy physical keyboards, so maybe that is why. 1,400 stock quadrant scores.
Comparison Discussion already been happing on this very forum.
Might be time to say goodbye to the Hero...
I am definately thinking about running out on Sunday to pick this bad boy up. I've been drooling over the Desire Z/G2.
Here's another video Evo Shift/Evo Schmackdown: http://www.wirefly.com/learn/resources/cell-phone-comparison/htc-evo-shift-vs-evo-4g-schmackdown
I'm with you Brando. Probably won't be getting it on launch day, I've got obligations before then, and don't get paid til the 14th. So maybe pick it up on the 15th?
I'd want it if they made a 4G-less version. $10/month surcharge for something I can't use in my area, no thanks.
I'm torn between the two.
The bigger screen size is a major plus. However, after using the Hero for a year, I definitely miss having a physical keyboard.
The Shift is new, whereas the original Evo is 6+ months old.
Decisions, decisions...
Can't wait to pick one up myself.

I just returned my Evo that I got last week and will be picking up the Shift on the 9th. I will definitely be buying it at Radio Shack rather than the Sprint store though! The Evo was just too big, but now my Hero looks so small!
So - back with my Hero for another week
I am returning my evo to get the evo shift 4g at radio shack tomorrow

I wonder how long it's going to take to get root on this sucka.
I imagine since the G2/DesireZ have been rooted it shouldn't take too long.
I will be looking forward to throwing an AOSP ROM on this bad @ss mutha and overclocking it.
I'm thinking about it too....but wasnt the HTC Sabor supposed to come out Q4 last year or Q1 this year....i guess it's just a rumor but with lg optimus 2x....don't they need to compete....I might wait couple months to see...

Is anybody making the jump to this phone from the Hero? I told myself I was going to wait for a dual core phone from HTC but it seems like that'll be a while. I might settle for this especially considering it's only 150 and I could pick one up right now from Radio Shack.
looking to buy this ASAP. My upgrade is Feb. 1st.
I may go buy it from Best Buy outright, put it on my credit card, return it on Feb. 2nd and rebuy it with my upgrade.
I tweeted with twelpforce on Twitter.

I'm going to head over to Best Buy tomorrow and see how it goes.
just got mine from best buy.... pretty sweeeeeeeeet. wish i could root it... im going to try the unrevoked method for the evo. i found out how to get to hboot with it (vol down + power) easy.

Saw this on another forum:
Chiming in to say I was able to just root my Shift. Installed Superuser app from market, installed z4root. Ran it to temporarily root and it claimed to but didn't work. Ran it again and superuser app popped up asking to grant access. Did so, remounted root, copied su and busybox binaries to /system/bin.
I'm really surprized that Google doesn't plug whatever root exploit this is. I mean I'm glad they don't, but it just seems odd.

I gues its been a while and still nothing from unrevoked. I guess there is never going to be an update since they refuse to answer any questions about wildfire, and the main thing in theyr IRC chat they never talk about it.. SO GUYS WE ARE FORGOTEN..

give them a chance, you want them to drop everything and work on a program for the wildfire that they make no money from. i'm sure these people have lives too, and it's been all of about 5 weeks since update. patience people
and yes wildpuzzle is fantastic

agree with you....i also have to wait for the unrevoked update
now got my hands on 2.2 official update....
no,they probably has it, they probably want to do some surprise with nice interface etc stuff, i do not belive that team unrevoked can not find any exploit in wf.
Everything is hackable, look at greenpois0n, redsn0w etc...they jailbreaked iphoine4 and now they are cracking soft 4.2.1, iphone 4 users also has to wait if they did update to 4.2.1...
So my point is ->this will be done, they are superb good and this is just matter of time.

I highly doubt they would delay releasing it just to suprise us with an interface. Id rather root my phone with a command line now than a nice UI in a few weeks time
maybe fool-proof or smth...

The same subject indeed, but with that big difference that nobody is asking anything that hasn't already been asked.. like a trilion times a day.
Brainstorming and sharing thoughts should be tollerated in a "general" toppic, no?
We will never been rooted Wildfire.
Their is no way to root this Hboot.
I think we need to buy new phone if want to flash rom.

exactly!!
finding an exploit in a bootloader(!!!) is little different then writing simple hello world program or whatever scenario you are thinking about. and if these inpatient folks here keep spamming the board with a new troll thread every day then I really hope there will be NO unrevoked. so please just keep waiting for it and stop annoying people! Noone from unrevoked will keep attention to your crying! so just stop it!
Btw the wildfire is already a great device even without root access so what's your problem???? you can still use your android!!! I used mine for months before even trying to root it!

I knew that all the people who were saying that it was offical that we were not getting the update were wrong. HTC never sent out any official notification sayignt that they were not updating the phone it was just some tech support guy's email who was obvioulsy clueless.

Minutes after launch? My replacement phone gets here today unrooted so I might see if I can capture. If its not gb already.
Even if no source yet, we should get a newer radio, and a more optimized kernel!

I think I'm going to hold off until the developers get a chance with it. I'd hate to update to it and loss root temporarily.

Technically even a rooted stock sense phone should receive the update as the updater isn't turned off/removed. At least thats the way the Eris worked. Unless unrevoked somehow turns off the updater when it roots the phone which I'm not aware of.

Alot of the Dinc ROM developers did turn off the updater back when the Froyo OTA was announced due to annoying, constant pop-ups. At least I know that rmk40 did with Virtuous.
This just added over at Android Central:
"Just got word about how the over-the-air rollout's going to take place. The push is scheduled to start Tuesday, Aug. 16, with an initial 10,000 updates. Another 50,000 will get it on Wednesday, and everybody else on Friday."

If you made a backup of your phone right after you rooted and before you installed a custom ROM like I did then what I'm saying is if you restore this first backup then you should get the update.
