Different Colored Trackballs!! - Hero CDMA General

would this be a hard thing to install?
http://www.ecrater.com/p/6734819/oem-color-trackball-for-htc-g2

yeah
bump, I wana know too! if this is easy to do a red track balk would be sweet!

no all you would have to do is take the phone apart, pop off the old trackball and put the new one in... probably take about 10 minutes

I did this back when I was a blackberry user. It is a simple mod. But, that trackball looks like it would not fit in our phone. It looks too small.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App

that is real easy to do. and it looks like it fits. it dont need to pop out the ball itself as it comes with that framey thing attached to it

Our track balls are not like a BB where a front Bezel can be removed, from the tear downs I have seen you'll have to split the phone in half and remove it from the back side.

The Hero power button nightmare.

So the paint problem on my power button got worse after i picked at with my finger nail ONCE just curious on the construction like a RETARD.
what followed was a week of pain and humiliation. The paint started coming off slowly leaving my hand looking like i was touching glitter, It was like a flesh eating virus, the glitter continued and button started looking worse and worse so i decided Saturday that i would end this once and for all, i got out nail polish remover, a magic eraser, and a microfiber cloth and the result is a BARE bright RED power button that is visible from 20 feet away and looks absolutely horrible. What i also didn't expect that the nail polish remover also took some of the paint off the area around the button and off the side of the phone.
The end result is that my phone is now an embarrassment, fully functional, the rest of the phone is in perfect shape but no matter how well i keep care of it now it will still have a huge red button visible from 20 feet away.
*sigh*
looks pretty cool
Bust out a silver sharpie and give it a quick paint job.
Note to self: "Keep phone away from nail polish remover." I have a slight bubble developing on my End button. I'm hoping I don't have to scrape everything off. On the other hand you could go ahead and scrape off the paint on the Call button and have a nice Christmasy-looking phone. LOL
is this a good enough excuse to get an EVO the day it comes out?

Duck tape fixes everything!!
Get small piece and stick it over the button.. Or take phone apart, rap duck tape around it.. In the process, dont break phone so you wont have to duck tape the entire thing together.
mine looks exactly the same dude.. :/
my back button even is starting to peel
I am afraid that if i start experimenting with paint and glue that my hero will end up out my apartment window.
no matter what i do it is always going to look bad, but seriously i need to make this less obvious.
did i mention that when the back light is lit on it, it is bright as hell too.

Take it to sprint and say the paint just wore away. You are a heavy phone user and you dont like how this happened. Ask what you options are and say you would like to get the buttons replaced. They do the work for free if you are insured.
It's a nice pic nonetheless.
it looks like t-1000

Mine just started peeling off last week. Not a heavy phone user, but regardless, the End Key is now peeling . I have insurance, so I'm debating on whether to take it in or not. If they can just fix the button, great. If not, well, we'll see. That and I'd likely have to RUU before taking it in (unless I just leave it powered off .)
Get some silver nail vanish and reverse the issue
Scratch everything off both the call and end buttons and just pretend it's supposed to be that way. That works for me, but I know it would bug some people.

That's what I did. It really does not bother me. At least I don't have the dust issue. I don't trust a sprint tech taking my phone apart for those two buttons. It really looks alright when both buttons are missing the paint.
my phone end button is peel off too. I guess phone was never meant for moderate to heavey usage for end button imho.

At 1st I was horribly upset that I had to carefully scrape the paint off of the button. But it grew on me over time & I can use the phone without graying hairs over paint peel.
on mine is the power button and the return button too sprint said that they can send me another one phone
Same thing here mine looks exactly like urs :/ Anthink i,m goign tto try and mask it off and get some hobby paint..idk what color thou
I completely peeled my power button months ago. It's red, I'm over it.
The "back" button has been doing the same thing. The little back arrow is a blob of naked plastic now. I don't care since I'm getting an EVO.
There are threads at Sprint and other Hero forums where people have been trying to get Sprint or HTC to replace the phone because of this. I think only one person got lucky and was given a new phone.

Back Cover

Anyone else having a hard time taking this thing off???
Every time I try to take it off, I always feel like I am going to break either the phone or my finger nail. Is there a certain way of going about it, like pushing up towards the camera then off?
I don't want to damage the phone in anyway and I feel like I am getting closer and closer to that every time I take the back off. Any ideas?

Its very easy to take out the back cover. Without pushing towards the camera, put your thumb nail in the slit and pry straight up off the plane of the phone. It should snap right off with little effort. Hope it helps.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I use an extra MicroSD card to remove it. I don't have nails so whoever designed the back wasn't thinking about everyone. I love the switch on the G2, wish the MT4G had that.
Questions go in the Q&A section. k thanks bye.
paperclip, pen top, dime... edge of a ruler, any of these work.
My nails are super short so they hurt trying to pry it off. I just anything I can wedge in the space.
A dime or a penny is what I always use. Pops right off.
i use my gfs bobby pens for her hair lol. i find them all over my desk lol
wish this phone had the little button the g2 had to pop off the back cover.
Index finger nail and pull straight up, not back, works very well. I wonder if some of these are a tighter fit than others.
Get your girlfriend with her freshly "French" manicure to do it. Tell her you want to upgrade the sdcard on the phone and you're going to pick one up. Give her phone, get in car, drive around block, pick up a donut, eat donut, drive home, hear her complain about breaking nail, tell her they didn't have any sdcard you want and tada, you battery cover is open. Wait, that got me in trouble. Nevermind, stick with the nickel method.
get a trim
if you're gonna break a nail... maybe its too long
I can't understand why its so difficult for some...even the TMO reps that help me were all scared to pop it off. I had to bust it out each time... which takes a full 420 milliseconds.
I have really short nails and just pop that thing right off..i can't believe people actually have issues with it lol

Post hinge-fix video!

A lot of people have been asking for a video of the end results - here it is!
LOL - I notice the audio doesn't quite match up with the video, Deal with it
Repair materials:
Currently the 5 pack of springs is out of stock - I ordered the 10 pack:
10 pack of springs
Small Phillips Screwdriver
Set of Safe Open Pry Tools
Void stickers for the squeamish
Important sources:
Follow until about 4:10 http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-tmobile-g2-take-apart-repair-guide.html :: Follow this video as you open up the insides of the phone; pause and review when necessary!

Wow!! Your hinge looks amazing! I just ordered the t5 screwdriver kit. Once I receive it, I will be attempting this.
I still need the springs, but I'm debating on ordering the 10 pack or not.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I wish there was a cheaper spring solution, I stretched mine, but it's still kinda loose. I don't have the $6 to spend on a spring, I had to search for change to get a T5 bit from Ace Hardware, and that was $2
Just a little update - after a day of full use, the phone seems more solid with the keyboard CLOSED; No wobbling at all. It really does feel like a one-piece device until you slide it open, and the clicking sound that the sliding makes really makes it feel good in the hand
Wow thanks for doing that and providing a link to the parts! My only gripe is that to get all the tools and parts, it will cost about $38. I wish we didnt have to spend that to get the phone to operate the way it was intended. Not to mention having to risk the phone not working because we had to take it completely apart.

The wobbling screen bothers me way more than the loose hinge, so much that the hinge doesn't bother me at all. I just don't understand why the screen can't sit flush to the base.

Re-House Your Xperia Play : Things to Know

This is going to be basically a review, not a tutorial, of what I experienced after I re housed my R800x in white and the steps I went through to get it done, I have no prior knowledge on the process, I simple "went for it" and had success.
~~ Please Note: Performing this can seriously damage your phone and if done wrong will possibly permanently destroy your device, please read everything and do everything slowly, Please understand you may attempt this at your own risk, you have been warned! ~~
For a good understanding on how to tear your Play apart and not break anything check this video out, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3n5ZfkqhzE
You can find the White Housing I purchased in these 2 links
The outside of the screen (digitizer) as seen in First photo
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Touch-Scree...&otn=2&po=LVI&ps=63&clkid=7007674525043897251
The White Housing Top , Middle plate, Control pad plate and Back as seen in the Second and Third photos
(I have seen a cheaper one since I bought mine, but this is the one I bought)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FULL-Housin...500747?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item27bf9d978b
This link is another R800x thats branded Verizon but I doubt it having the service ribbon sticker (for lack of better words which comes into play later) because they dont show a back view of the Middle plate
http://cnn.cn/shop/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-cdma-black-housing-verizon-branded-p-12588.html
After getting your parts and watching the video you should be where I was at in Photo Four, my phone torn down and the new pieces ready to make this r800x look great.
Photos Five and Six -are close ups reviewing it all.
Photo Seven - is where I started, the touch joy stick pcb ribbon. It was kinda scary thinking if i rip this thing or pull to much that the touch pads wouldnt work anymore, and thanks to ShadowGun I was able to verify they still did. I used the blue tool for prying the phone , to help peal back the ribbon as you see it, you can give it a decent pull with your fingers as you get enough pealed up, try to pull as close to the glued end as possible so you dont risk tearing or something.
Photos Eight and Nine - I had finished moving the touch pad ribbon to the new white control pad plate and started removing the Menu, Start and Select buttons and transferring them to the white plate. Using the blue tool again sorta scrap up the backing to each of the; Menu and Start and Select buttons, it helps to push from the other side on the button a little. You need to try and not to deform the sticker/glue piece that holds the buttons in place or it might Not stick to good on the new plate, a sweat gripping moment that I first thought would just never work but patience does pay off in this step.
Photo Ten - it was all done, that piece at least.
From there I moved onto the the Middle Plate, which required a few steps if you decide you want to swap these out. One in particular that left me clueless for a few days without service, bare with me on this part..
There is a black Antenna sticker on the Bottom half of the Middle plate on your R800X, which has a gold ribbon on its opposite side that finishes a circuit, without this circuit completed your phone will Not have service and dialing *228 will not work your phone will tell you, in a mans voice "The code you have entered is in-correct please check you code and try again" - The first time I heard that I was thinking hmm thats probably not good and Verizon told me "thats not programmed in our system, you should Never get a msg like that or a mans voice" So I had them send me a replacement ( Of course I didnt mention this was all my fault and I re housed it, and thats the real reason I wouldnt go to the store to have it checked out, but that shouldnt matter right )
Upon getting the replacement phone I, for somehow the first time, Noticed the black sticker antenna on the back of the Middle plate. I grabbed my original housing and noticed the sticker antenna on it as well, so I pealed that off and revealed, to me which was previously unseen, this gold ribbon connects a circuit with two terminals on the phones mother board. The gold ribbons two ends slide into a slot on the Middle plate, underneath it to make the connection. I replaced this black sticker onto the new White Middle plate because the back of the L1 and R1 triggers are White and they are Black on the original Vz housing.
Photo Eleven-Shows the back of the New white trigger Middle plate, no black sticker antenna
Photo Twelve-The Middle plate from the Verizon replacement
Photos Antenna 2 and Antenna 3-These are the other 2 antennas also needed for service, be sure to pull those off and place them onto the new middle housing of your new phone.
For the r800i and r800a they have another antenna on the middle plate (I just dont have a photo :crying: I have an r800x) I can tell you at least that if your holding the middle housing and the Antenna 2 is on your right, the r800i/r800a other antenna will be on the left side of the housing.
Photo Thirteen- I wanted the White triggers so I super glued the black sticker antenna back on, worked out pretty good if you ask me, minus my thumb print of course. .
Photo Fourteen- I circled the inside area of the Middle plate where the you can see the opposite side of the gold ribbon that makes the connection with the mother board of the phone in the top half and you can see its not on the New Middle plate in the bottom half of the photo.
If you decide to go ahead and swap the Middle plate, you will need to remove the speakers as well and I cracked my original plate removing the left speaker, they are in there pretty tight, I basically pryed up on them in anyway that I wasn't destroying any part of them. As seen in Photo Fourteen
In Photo Fifteen I was now ready to replace the Top half of the phone and put the new Digitizer on. You wont need any extra glue here, the New White Half of the housing comes with a clear plastic film on it (sorry I had already removed before I took the photo) that was protecting some glue, thats seems to be holding up pretty good a week later and I dont think it will ever come off. Once you have replace you new Digitizer on the new Top half of the White housing, you are ready to reverse the steps seen in the Video linked at the beginning , once you have completed that you will be enjoying your newly housed in luxurious White and Silver Xperia Play as I am in the Final Photos.
I hope this helps, this was the first time I tore a phone apart physically and might have my "names of pieces" wrong but I tried to explain it in a way that makes sense and simple to look at. I do wanna make a video or something because I think anyone looking to do this would benefit more from a better "visual tutorial" but I dont have much time as id like to and this should serve good.
I hope in anyone who decides to go through with this, and enjoys having a white Xperia Play like I have
That looks awesome!!! Mind taking a couple photos of the screen and with it powered on to see how good this after market screen is? Awesome job and the white looks nice and clean.

The black sticker completes a circuit that is needed for service. Idk exactly what circuit it completes but the sticker has a gold pcb type ribbon on it that makes contact with two pins on the motherboard. Without the black sticker in place your phone will boot with no service. I didn't find out until after the fact and if you look in my photo where I glued the sticker back on you can see its a little mangled but glued it down flat and my service is just as good as it always was . Well as good as 3g can be lol .. But to answer your last question as long as you pull the sticker off slowly and don't rip it you should be fine. The gold ribbon on the bottom half just can't be torn in half or the circuit won't complete. But it peeled off without tearing for me, just take your time and you should be good to go.

does your rear camera look like this?

So I just but my s4 today from sprint. I f****** love this thing. But on the rear camera it looks like there's this film covering the lens. Kinda like the film you peel off the front screen and whatnot. Actually that's what I thought it was so I tried peeling it off (not hard), but that shiz wasn't coming off. I've shot some pics and I think they look fine. I can push on the 'film' and it will move around a little bit. It looks like there are little nics and scrapes (barely noticeable) around the edge of the camera, but idk if that's from the manufacturing process or what. Does anyone else have this on their s4? If not, I wonder if I have a faulty device. I've included some pictures, taken from the front camera on my nexus 7 (which was difficult to do) so you know what I'm talking about. Any feedback is appreciated!! Best phone I've ever owned, and I haven't even rooted it yet!
