Greetings,
I had a short visit to Dubai and I've bought an X10 from the airport on my way back home. I had it sealed and I opened it when I got back.
It was shocking that it had no android market and I am stuck with the phone and can't replace it.
I just want to have the firmware other than the one loaded to it that is specific for Dubai with no android market, I've been reading in this forum and I guess this process is called "rebranding" if I am correct? Please guide me to how to get android market on my handset because they do cheat people when they sell android handset without market application.
Hi.
You could follow steps 1 to 6 HERE which will "debrand" the phone, then run SEUS for the latest FW, or should you want to root the phone you could follow all the steps.
I've followed the instruction till step 6 then I ran SEUS but it says my phone is up to date. I didn't do step 7.
I have the market now showing up, I will try it and get back to you. But I am wondering why SUES gave me no updates?
My baseband version is 1.1.27 and my build number is R2BA023
Are these the latest versions?
I've used the market app and downloaded my first application. I am really thankful for your help.
I do have a question, before I do steps (from 1 to 6) my build version was R2BA024 and after I did all you said I am stuck with R2BA023, when I try SUES or OTA update it says my phone is up to date. What does this mean? I can't update my phone anymore?
plz Re-post the link

Thx in advance!
Download Flashtool with a generic firmware, flash it into your phone and enjoy your unbranded phone with the market. After flashing with Flashtool use SEUS to be sure everything is cleaned with a clean install with SEUS.

thanx a lot for the reply....but i have a few doubts
1) My phone's firmware is already 2.1-update 1 and build number is 2.1.A.0.435 should i still download it?
2) Is the FlashTool version 0.2.8 the latest version or i shud find the lastest version and download it?
3) So,if i flash my phone wat exactly will happen? Will i get android market in my phone now?
4)Should i back up my phone before doing this?
5)there is Slide me(sam 4.0) pre-installed?...does this remain?
6)wat is debranding? should i do it too?
7)Can i update my phone usind SEUS after this?
8) what do u suggest...should i just flash my phone or i should root it too and do the utilise the below options?
-install xRecovery, Busybox
- Clean your Rom (remove /system/apps apps of your choice)
- Clear dalvik cache
- Optimize (install of JIT v2)
- Customize (installs apps found in the custom/apps folder of the flashtool)
- Clean uninstalled (remove any references to system apps removed in the Clean (root needed) step)
- Edit /system/build.prop

I don't know what you want to backup, but you could sync your contact/agenda etc with google. After that, download firmware .435 Generic and flash it into your phone. You will now have a unbranded device with market.
AFter doing that, you can optimize your ROM with Flashtool, install xRecovery, root etc... After the flashtool installation you will lose EVERYTHING. So be sure you back-up all important things.

Back up and restore could be fine if it does backup everything you want.
Debranding means that your phone is not LIMITED to one provider with software updates. So when SE releases a firmware you will have to wait till your provider releases the firmware for you. But when you debrand you get updates from SE and not your provider.

Well technically this isn't debranding because your phone is not carrier branded (It's just a generic UAE with no Market).
This is just switching to another region which has Android Market. But the way to do this is exactly the same as when debranding a phone.
Android Market isn't available in the UAE region.
So if you re-flash with another region and get market, and still using a SIM from the UAE I think it would block any content. But then you could root your phone and use Market Enabler to fake another carrier and get Android Market to work.
But since you "brought it home" I can say that reflashing it to another region will get you Android Market and it will work. You don't need to back up your UAE firmware when replacing it with another region firmware, and after you've flashed it with another region firmware SEUS or PCC will always flash to that region firmware.
If you flash to another region you won't have SlideMe Market, because all other region firmwares all have access to Android Market and therefor comes with Android Market pre-installed instead.
I remember when the first 2.1.A.0.435 build was released, that was to UAE it had no Market so I made a xRecovery fix package to get Android Market on it.
But would suggest you to flash another region firmware instead of this, because then when you flash with SEUS or PCC again in the future you would miss Android Market again.
You can find the latest firmwares here (don't use the AT&T but go for the one below called 2.1.B.0.1)

The Samsung firmware website has only leaked versions of Froyo for now, will they be getting the "official" froyo fw once Samsung releases the official version in September?
Not sure what you mean, but any pre-releases will probably need to be wiped.
At the moment, there are very few good reasons to be using the Froyo prereleases anyway. They were probably only leaked because people got annoyed of the claims that Samsung was sitting on their arses doing nothing.
Sorry I wasn't being clear. What i meant was: Will the internet get the official froyo firmware once Samsung releases it?
I'm asking this because where I am I cannot update to froyo OTA so I will need to flash it.
Yes you will. The xda community will have it before it goes ota

I don't think this can be true or makes any sense. OTA agree but update via Kies why not? I recently updated to XF5 via kies in Dubai and hope the froyo update also to happen via kies.
This is not an android market to worry about any copyright issues for them to stop releasing it here. Once they host in samsung I think it will appear via Kies.

With only the slightest difference in hardware from the international version, someone I know here in Korea got an OTA upgrade (he has MBP and hasn't even bothered to load Kies). I think the carrier here is their closest partner and that might have something to do with it. Not sure.

Update through Kies in Dubai, that's good to know. Btw, does the XF5 have the android market app? You see that's the major reason I flashed to JG1 (Euro) rom.
On the other hand, if Samsung does release Froyo (through Kies) in Dubai, will there be a market app for it? I wonder.

Hi fakeullu, I have now realised that the update will be pushed to your kies based on what region ROM you already have in your mobile. So in that what you said and feared was right.
Even I had a SingTel (singapore) based SGS so the update that was pushed via Kies for me was again a singapore based one. I still had the SingTel based screens.
This is the same even for the locally purchased SGS in Dubai. You will get a Middle East based ROM, having said that there are multiple versions for a single region. For example, Middle East has some 3-4 different versions of FW. and good news is that some will have Market access. (you can refer to a thread called 'Samsung secret codes). These regions are identified based on a three letter alphabetical code like xsg for singapore and xfg for middle east.
In another thread on getting android market access - somebody was suggesting a technique to get access to android market and it worked for locally purchased device. Search for that thread.
I did the same and retained a singapore version while I removed successfully the SingTel customised contents out.
Dubai people flashed it to XFG and gained market access. So the next time you connect through Kies it will only push you a version that is compatible with XFG (the one that has market access).
I am sure this helps. You don't have to necessarily go for rooting and flashing a different regions ROM as the method I mentioned above is safe and without rooting and maintaining your warranty.
Cheers

Thanks for the comprehensive answer Sany. I've flashed to JG1 (Euro rom), so technically I should receive a euro update through kies even though I'm in Dubai?
Thats correct
Well sany, I did try updating through kies but it said no upgrade was available. Just like I thought. Anyways, I'm happy with flashing when Froyo roms (official) are released on Samsung firmwares website.
I am trying to unlock my x10a locked to ATT, I purchased the unlocking code but it seems that mi unlocking code cannot be found on the unlocking server.

BTW I don’t have any ATT sim

Does your lockscreen have and arc you have to swipe or a straight line at the bottom to unlock (like iPhone)?
If you have the arc swipe to leave lockscreen then you're on 1.6.
If you got the straight swipe line, then your on 2.1.
You can check your Android version by going to:
Settings>About Phone
And check what it says in the Firmware version field.
Yes I have the Arc so I'm on 1.6
I can't go to setting I can only do an emergency call.

Ahh yea the AT&T restrictions. Forgot about those, on generic firmwares you can boot up without a SIM in the phone.
Well you just have to flash a generic X10a firmware with FlashTool then.
To be safe get the X10a (2.0.A.0.504) firmware.
Not confirmed this myself, but I think going from 1.6 to 2.1 requires you initially flash 2.0.A.0.504 before any other 2.1 firmware (But I'm really not certain about this, so this is just a safety precaution on my part).
This can all be found in the FlashTool thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Then just flash that and then you'll be ready for your cable unlock.

Told him to flash that because I remember someone long ago said that going from 1.6 to the latest 2.1 could cause problems. But was not certain on that so better safe than sorry. And either way he will be able to get 2.3 on 2.0.A.0.504 just aswell as on 2.1.A.0.435. This was just so he could get the device unlocked in the safest possible way I could recommend. He can always just connect the X10 to SEUS after he has unlocked, and then it will update him to the latest 2.1.A.0.435

Not any kit. If you want the bloatware branded ATT 2.1 firmware that limits data speeds and blocks apps from unknown sources. Also, most branded kits will not be getting the Gingerbread update.
What i seem to think his problem is is that he cant unlock on SETool because he is on 1.6 and that only works with stock 2.1
So he needs 2.1 on his phone which he is struggling with.
So, use official means to upgrade to the official 2.1, unlock using SETool, then use flashtool to root, install recovery and flash any firmware or custom rom he wants.
Why the worry about dual touch drivers etc etc.....once its rooted you can get rid of bloatware, easily flash generic firmware and receive 2.3 update....
I am confused as to why this poses a problem.

Enabling apps from unknown sources isn't as easy as rooting with ATT. Also, data is throttled down to 3G.
You even suggest flashing generic after updating via SEUS or PCC. Why add all these extra steps? This is xda. You can accomplish everything with global generic 2.1.A.0.435 firmware in about 5 minutes with the flash tool.
Well What I did was use Sony Ericsson Update Service, when I connected the phone it told me that there is a newer version so it updated it to firmware version 2.1-update1. So I was able to unlock the phone using multi unlock. Now to get the latest firmware which I understood it is 2.1.A.0.435 with Flash Tool.
Can I go straight from 2.1-update1 to 2.1.A.0.435?
And a last question a generic firmware means that I won’t have all those useless ATT apps on my phone?
Thanks for the help

Yea a generic firmware is one without any branded apps, special setup or limited features.
The latest generic was released for the German generic kits an has build version 2.1.B.0.1. You can find it in my signature.

I apologize to be a pain but I just getting in the android world.

All Sony Ericsson devices is sold in different regions and has a region specific code. That code determines if your region is eligible for an update (Sony Ericsson rolls out their updates in regions).
Some regions gets updates that others don't get, that's the case with the 2.1.B.0.1, this firmware was only released to the German "kits".
Not a pain at all, we all have to start somewhere
Ok then I will go to 2.1.B.0.1, hopefully I won’t screw up my phone since this is the first time doing this
Hi, i just ordered an xperia arc s,bafter telling myself ill never buy a non google experience phone due to update issues with non google phones, cos the arc s just looks so nice and distinguished. So now i have a question about how updates work.
As far as i know from experience, updates are carrier based. For example i had a lg optimus before this, and its european version was slightly lagging behind with bug fix updates than my us carrier version, and short of custom rom, there was no way to oficially update the software to eu version.
With the arc s, my phone is unlocked, internstional version, bought off amazon. As far as i can tell its similar to the ones SE sells on its website which arent locked to any specific carrier. How do the updates on these official carrier free sim unlocked phones work? Are they quicker since they are not carrier dependent? Or are they on European schedule since this is an european phone? Im looking forward to ics and hope i get it soon, bso if someone could educate me id appreciate it..
Non carrier phones get it faster than branded ones.
ICS will come in April to Arc (S)

Ive read guide upon guide of flashing different firmware, but for the life of me just can never figure it out. So for now im staying away fromm it. I actually think sonys android skin is pretty nice. Once sony leaves behind the device from updates then sure ill flash a different firmware, for now though the convenience of ota uodates, which are available for official firmwares but not for hacked ones, is too much to give up.
There's nothing wrong with the se skin, I prefer modded stock roms to miui/cm7. The branding is from the carrier, but if yours is a generic rom then there shouldn't be much to remove. Mines was sim-free but there are still delays to updates region-wise, which is why I unlocked my bootloader. Flashing roms is pretty straightforward once you have flashtool/fastboot/cwm.

Use flashtool, it is really simple. Just go slow the first time so you don't make any errors.

So i just received my phone in canada (Lt18i), the international version, since im not using it in canada, its a gift for someone in europe. The box was sealed when i got it, and it said for sale in france, and it has a bunch of crap installed apps like canal+, warnervod, etc. does this mean this is specific to some carrier and thu would have carrier dependent updates? I was really hoping since it unlocked i wouldnt have all this junk on it. Itmdoesnt have any references though to any carrier in the documentation, neither does it have any carrier specific apps i can see. The version on it is 0.42 and it says no updates available. I did read about some 0.62 version out there.
So i have a few questions off topic:
- can i remove the crapware without rooting my phone? I tried es explorer but it tells me uninstll not successful for those apps.
- i did a factory reset the first time, and now the default pictures thwt came with it to show off the beautiful screen are also gone. I found the default ringtones and notificwtion by searching but have not found the default pics. Anybody got a source as to where to find these?
- if i want to stick with the sony software and sony updates, what is the downside of rooting my phone just to delete those bad apps? I read somewhere i lose ota update absility? True? Also can i root, delete the apps, and then unroot?
- what is the difference between simply rooting the device, and unlocking the bootloader, i thought they were both the same
Thanks

If someone doesn't have them zipped already, I can probably find them on my phone and upload them.

You do NOT lose OTA update abilities as long as you don't modify any system apps/files. e.g. notifications bar, battery indicator, etc.
Updates are based on whatever firmware you have on the phone.
e.g. I flashed my Rogers arc to a generic USA firmware. It typically gets updated 2-3 weeks before Rogers since they have to do their customization to it. Similarly, users will flash an international firmware or another region's if that region has released an update.
You can flash ANY firmware onto ANY arc and still get 3G in its coverage zone. (All firmwares contain BOTH software radios: i, a. However, HARDWARE is fixed: "a" radio, "i" radio and will ONLY get 3G in their respective coverage zones.)
That is, you can flash an "i" firmware onto an "a" phone and still get 3G in an "a" zone.
However, this does NOT work in reverse. You CANNOT flash an "i" firmware to get "i" 3G in an "i" zone on an "a" phone.

Rooting = deeper access to the software on the phone. Does NOT allow you to load recoveries like ClockWorkMod or load non-Sony firmwares.
Bootloader unlocking (either paid or free) allows custom firmwares, overclocking, etc.
Flashing a (generic) firmware is quick and painless:

You have no idea how helpful your info and those videos have been!! I think im actually going to attempt the generic rom thing especially because it says i dont even need to be rooted. And the vidos make it ridiculously easy to do it. After half a dozen guides this demystifies the whole process.
So just to confirm, if i update to a generic other rom, ill still be able to get ota updates based on that region? In your opinion which rom is the best for an lt18i? And by best i mean the one i can expect quickest updates on and with least amount of bloatware, cos i doubt there are or differences in them.European, north american. Or global generic?
Btw im on firmware 0.62 anything special i need to consider before attempting this?
This page has links to firmware for lt18i but no global. And the uk version is older. Should i just flash The uk version even though its older and then ota update?
Regarding the stock photos, would be awesome if you could zip and upload to your mediafire page, maybe other people can find them useful too.
P.s. your donate button is broken paypal says theres an issue with your email address.

Typically, Nordic gets updates first because Ericsson is Swedish. (From past observations, it typically goes Nordic, German, Hong Kong, UK, Asia, North America.)

Nope. There isn't anything you need to "do". If you're concerned about data, use a backup program such as Sony's original Backup & Restore that came with the X10 (still works). (http://jp1.ca/androidstuff)
This link should have the latest "i" version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330314

Thanks. I'll update it!
The link you sent me only has a generic world for lt18i. This other thread i read though said that there is no such thing as generic world, and its just called that but its always for some region of the other. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210776&page=3)
Not sure how accurate that is but i dont see the nordic one on the link you sent me anyway
Also another thread said that there will always be 8-9 bloatware apps on any firmware such as canal+, warner vod, etc. is this true or false?
Lastly, say i find an older version of the nordic flash file, can i just flash that instead of the 0.62 and then just get an ota update? I didnt see france on your list of status of updates, any idea where that is?
As for pictures, not sure what folder but i believe there were some stock pics that came with the phone to show off the home screen photo widget. If you dont know what im talking about dont worry about it.

Hi! I was on the same situation as you when I got my device as this was my 1st ever android device and I was also curious about firmware regions. So I tested each and every firmware region I could get on .42 and all I can say is there's not much difference on all of them.
1. is of all the regions there each firmware differs only by so called bloatwares.
2. there are only 2 major differences of all the regions. Asia region contains Chinese keyboard, Japanese Keyboard & international keyboard but no arabic support. While non-Asia regions only has International Keyboard included + arabic support.
That's pretty much about it. All others softwares are similar like baseband version, branding, kernel version, applications, themes, etc.
Hi, I have recently bought an XZ2 Premium imported from Hong Kong, which seems to be the last region to receive the Android Pie update. As Flashtool doesn't have an FSC for Android Pie, I am unable to flash a different region's firmware. Would anyone be able to provide a script so that I can flash my phone please?
I used newflasher, but I flashed it two times.
First time with newflasher excluding persist.sin file not to loose the Android Attest Key and then second time with Xperia Companion repair to be sure.
see my post about newflasher here

I'm not sure how I feel about using something I've never used before and I don't want to lose all my data by flashing.

What I ended up doing was flashing a different region's version of Nougat with Flashtool, and then it updated to Pie automatically.
UK ROM for single-SIM devices: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262904007092
UK ROM for dual-SIM devices: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262904006585
I only used the UK ROM because it was the easiest one to find, but feel free to use whichever. The Hong Kong handsets are literally the only ones still waiting for Pie.

Thank you very much. i was just thinking about the same thing: to flash nougat and upgrade to pie via ota then.
Yeah..i have the hk version....and it's frustrating to see how much time they need to let be available pie!
Hoping to do what pleases, I want to inform you that I have upgraded to pie (without deleting any existing data) following the advice of the friend above. So: 1) I downloaded the UK firmware into the flashtool folder. 2) Start the flash without flagging any box related to the data wipe. Wait approximately 20 minutes. (note that the flashtool process stops with the writing "disconnected phone, connected in flash mode, and not with" flash terminated, disconnect the device). Restarted .... in 2 minutes I detected the update available to android pie. 3) Download and install the update of about 1.01GB. Everything works perfectly. Thx again

I'm sorry, but that's not a solution for me. This would involve completely resetting the device, starting it as if it were the first time, and after updating to the latest version of 9.0, re-reset to factory settings so that you can take the backup copy of Google, since the latest copies of Security are not compatible with previous versions. When you have 15 applications it can be simple, but I have 190, most with different passwords. That's why I want only the .fsc file, so I can change the version without losing data.

You don't have to reset the phone at all if you do it the way I did it. Resetting my phone isn't a solution for me either, which is why I didn't try the other suggestion made here of using newflasher.
