Hi,
I can't enable the feature that show to my friend a "green robot icon" when i'm logged on gtalk/gmail chat from my Galaxy S.
Anyone have my same problem?
My firmware is JF5.
Thanks in advance!

Did you friend add the Google Labs add-on that enables this feature? It's not a standard thing in GMail.

I think you have gtalk online on pc or other device online gtalk...
try all logout gtalk (pc or mac or iphone...)
lets know if I can help...

Anybody found a solution yet ?

I wonder how gmail recognize android users, I use Palringo in Windows Mobile and would like to be recognized as robot too. I set my resource as android but this doesn't makes me as robot. Anybody know how to make it works?

If I recall correctly, It's a Google Labs add-on you can turn on in Settings.

Nimbuzz

Just installed this, cant believe how nice it looks!
But yeah theres an option now to start and sign in when the phone does, which is appealing because it would be similar to blackberry messenger.
But would this cause a serious drain on battery? Surely its no different to having GTalk running?
nimbuzz does not have push notification like GTalk or the nimbuzz on the iphone so it will drain your battery like mad because its constant connection to stay logged in.
the closes thing to bbm is gtalk atm. or whatsapp when they release it on the android
that sucks, no one I know uses gtalk lol. is whatsapp being released on Android?

Hows your battery life when using nimbuzz?
Whatsapp should be released soon but i dont see why people are paying for this app when GTalk does the same if not more and its FREE?
Ask your friends to install GTalk on their devices for now, they might like it =)
Because "WhatsApp" does not need special username or PIN.
You only need your phone number (in international forward) and that's it!
Very nice indeed, but when for Android????

When you install Nimbuzz, does it ALWAYS connected ?
Is it possible to run it on-demand?
Because I might interested in using it as "Skype" client ONLY. And use it when I want to use Skype-call feature.

nimbuzz is always connected and it does not support push notification.
i installed it to use skype but it doesnt support group chat so its a bit useless for me.
But generally skype does not support push notification, not even on there own official apps
Is it possible to turn the connection OFF ?
And only use it just to use Skype for calling (international) land-lines for example?

You can sign out which turns the connection off.
so you can sign in when you need to use skype and sign out when your finished
Does anybody see their own picture in conversation? I have in my account, but I /and frieds don`t see it.
I tried Nimbuzz today, but unfortunately I cannot use it to use my Skype account to call (non-skype) landlines / mobile phones
I know, for this feature I need full featured Skype client, correct? And it does not exist on Android !
Nimbuzz has been uninstalled ...
Do you have your mobile number associated with skype in order to send sms and call? I have and have no problems calling mobile numbers from Nimbuzz. I takes credit from my skype account.
Yes, I finally figured it out how to get that ...
BUT ... it is really buggy ...
It only worked for the FIRST TIME ... showing that saved number.
When I modified or added some more in the Skype PC application, logout Skype.
They dont appear on the Nimbuzz.
I tried to login-logout Nimbuzz ... it does not work.
I tried to remove Skype account and added again ... it does not work
I tried to uninsall Nimbuzz and reinstall ... it does not work
I tried to uninstall Nimbuzz, reboot phone, reinstall ... it does not work
Whatever I tried in Android phone with Nimbuzz, it did not "sync" (or update) the Skype saved numbers.
So, yeah, frustrated with this kind of quality of the Nimbuzz for Android.
Does it work on yours? The add/update Skype saved numbers ...

no, removing the account did not refresh contacts
Yupe, and there is NO WAY to refresh either
So, I guess I have to wait another update ... (if there will be any!).
Anyway, I tested to call using SkypeOut and the call quality is not that good, there was some delays at the other end (long distance international call).
But, certainly it is better than Fring.

[devs needed] FREE phone calls from Google

As some of you know, you can now place FREE calls to anywhere in the US or Canada using GMail and the "voice and video chat plugin". You can also receive calls from within GMail if you have a GoogleVoice account and you set it up to forward GoogleVoice calls to "Google Chat" as well as your phone(s).
This is awesome! I can now answer calls from GMail instead of my phone. I wish the desktop GoogleTalk app did that so I wouldn't have to always keep a webbrowser page open to GMail, but that is not what this post is about...
I got to thinking: if GMail can place and receive free phone calls, why can't I do that on my phone (or any device with internet)? I downloaded every available webbrowser for Android and tried to surf to GMail, but none of them even loaded the page (???), much less the plugin.
While searching for any possible solution, I learned that the required "voice and video chat plugin" is available for Linux. This fact makes me almost positive that it is somehow possible for someone to develop an Android app that loads that plugin, logs in to GMail (spoofing a desktop browser), and displays the Pop-out dial pad capable of placing and receiving free calls!
Is anyone up to the challenge? This is huge people! FREE phone where ever there is internet. I hope someone can make this happen on Android devices, since it already works perfect on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
EDIT: Lots of info in the SIPdroid thread I found after posting this, but it still would be nice to just make an XMPPdroid app and not have to deal with connecting Jabber to SIP. If my linux PC can make free Google VOIP calls without setting up additional SIP and PBXes accounts, then my Android phone should be able to too.
Great idea! Im sure others are working on it. Im all for free calling wherever there is internet. Not sure if the cell phone carriers ate gonna like it.

I've thought the same, currently I'm using SipDroid>pbxes>sipsorcery>sipgate>GV. Anything a bit simpler would be great. Plus when i try to hook up a friend, at least one of those sites aren't open to the public;gizmo is a simpler setup, hasnt been open since google bought it and has been sitting on it ever since. If I find anything I'll post here
this would be really nice. cell carriers are already ripping us off unnecessarily. this would give us some ways out
PBXes added support for the gtalk trunk recently and their latest sipdroid application can even set that all up for you today. In the end you'll have sipdroid->pbxes->gtalk with direct dialing.
I've been using it for a week or so now and it works better than any other solution I've tried, except for a sipdroid/android bug where a bluetooth disconnect causes the phone to reboot.

Google Talk / Problems

Searched but couldn't find anything.
I'm having some issues with Google Talk Client. I show logged in but to my contacts I'm logged off. I am also unable to get messages sent to me.
APN settings are right.
Anyone here having the same problems?

I have the same problem.. Did you found any solution?
Have you guys tried changing your status on the phone? (Tap your name at the top screen and change it to away or something to see if that helps.)
If you log in to GTalk via gmail on the web on your laptop, do you have the same issue? (this will help show if it's a phone problem, or a GTalk in general problem)
I have this same problem, I just noticed it today becuase i was signed in to gtalk and instead of a chat notification i have an email notification because the chat was emailed to me. Hmm... I hope we get a resolution soon..

Not sure what you mean by broken. I have it loaded and can browse around without issue although it is clearly not designed for tablets. I have also not posted anything using the app but can verify that it does install and can browse without a problem.
Won't Sync
I cannot get Facebook to sync. Anyone else have this problem? Application seems to work otherwise.

What do you mean by sync? Like the phone, add it to Accounts and Sync in the tablet settings? It is not showing for me here as it does on my phone. I do not think that will work until we get a Honeycomb version.
EDIT: Actually it does show when trying to "add account" but does nothing.
I can't use the FB widget. It's FCs on me when I drag it over to a screen.
As for FB/Google integration... there appears to be a fight between Facebook and Google. I guess Google patched up some type of exploit that FB was using to merge/link contacts. It's fine for HTC, TouchWiz, MotoBlur... but not with a direct Google experience device.
Just search Google for more info on this. I read only a paragraph or so and got bored of the politics behind it.
If I remember correctly, facebook is now blocking google from exporting numbers/pictures status's.
This was on the news somewhere

It still works on my Samsung Captivate though.
Same as others.. Can load the app and use it however trying to add an account to sych friends, as I've done on my D1 Droid, it blinks then does nothing. After doing this I've found occasionally the actual app then crashes, even with reboot, and must be re-installed to get it back.
I'm sure a native Honeycomb version will arrive in due time.. For now I'm just using TweetDeck which works great for various accounts including: Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, etc.

Can't get IM app to work

I have a stock never rooted samsung galaxy 2's im app to work. It will not even let me enter any information. When opening it crashes. Any ideas why?
Samsung not ready to use that app just yet. Maybe still setting up the server?
Works for me. Try setting it up via the Social Hub under "menu" and "add accounts." It support Windows Messenger, Google Talk, and Yahoo! Messenger. If you're using something else that might be why it's not working.

I tried that also and I just get an error message. Only with the im apps though.
Do a hard reset. Like I said, it works fine for me. Do you have any other messaging apps installed that might be conflicting? Maybe try setting it up when you're connected to Wi-Fi.
Ive done a hard reset and i am on wifi. its freaking me out
Does anyone have the apk? I have tried everything but that to get it to work.

Doesn't work for me either, either using the IM app or trying to add via the Social Hub app.
I get an error everytime.
