T-Mobile Vibrant Vs. Unlocked Galaxy S - Galaxy S I9000 General

Which one is better? I know they are pretty much the same phone with slight differences.
Vibrant
-Has t-mobile stuff preloaded
-has all four android buttons
Galaxy
-has been rooted
-doesn't have all four buttons
Also what are some other differences?

front facing camera
and the ability to use wifi hotspot i believe.
althought im hoping that last one will just be an apk that we can install similar to gaining the functionality on the hd2. i hope so anyways

Also no T-Mobile branding on the face of the phone.
Plus, I really much prefer the large button on the Galaxy S, than the 4 cluttered buttons on most Android phones.

It's quite possible that Vibrant will be cheaper than the galaxy s. That's a big feature for the Vibrant.

Which SGS has all the components?

After reading through this forum on many many topics, it came to my attention that localized version of SGS for America (USA/Canada) seems to have missing "features" like camera/flash, smaller storage, but they have the addition of the Gyroscope, where the international version I9000 has everything but the Gyroscope, but is compensated by the other sensors which the I9000 actually has 4 sensor instead of 6...
So, in the end I'm still not sure which model is better, but it'll be good to know.
Does anyone have a side by side comparison list of the different sub models for the SGS ?
I've already ordered the European/Asian I9000 version, I'm quite sure it's the best one out there, however i might be wrong, specially the CDMA sprint version has the Keyboard/4G that non of the other versions have.
4G is not a biggie as the North American infrastructure doesn't even support it yet, but having a Keyboard is a huge bonus, but i'm sure it'll weight more.
Why can't we just have it all in one single version?
The Epic 4G is the ONLY model that has all the features +LED Flash +Sliding Keyboard +4G modem
The other 3 models are basically the same in that they don't have front facing cameras but the Verizon fascinate model has a flash on the back.

Gyroscope ? Which model has this ?
It's not *actually* a gryo. It's using an accelerometer and geo-magnetic sensor together that can determine 6-axis of control.
And all 4 versions of the phone have this six-axis sensor.
Edit: That isn't to say that this method of six-axis control isn't as good as the iPhone. I honestly don't know how it fares against it. The only thing you should take away from this is that it's actually more efficient. The iPhone uses four sensors to: Accelerometer/Magnetometer/Gyro/Proximity. Whereas the Galaxy S uses 3 sensors: Accelerometer/Magnetometer(+gryo-ish axis)/proximity.
As far as I can see, it's just a gyro smashed together with a magnetometer. Something like this: http://www.global.yamaha.com/news/2006/20060726.html
So, I want to say that it would deliver the same fidelity as the iPhone 4's Gyro, however, I couldn't tell you. Also, I don't think that Android has an API's that currently make use of full six-axis control. So developers would have to do it all themselves.

Actually if you give swype a try you'll find a physical keyboard to be just bulk... Sprint's does seem to have everything: Flash, keyboard, and front camera... I read something about it not having a lot of internal memory though.

Hope you didn't take offense.
@aeo087
You are correct. The Epic 4G is said to have 1GB of usable mem and the Verizon Fascinate is only supposed to have 2GB. Obviously they can all be expandable with MicroSD storage.
Also the keyboard is a negative to my wife. She just like candy-bar style.

The answer is none.
Please be specific with your question.
but what exactly is "all components"?
AT&T 16gb, No FFC, No flash, gyroscope
Tmobile 16gb, No FFC, No flash, gyroscope
Verizon 2gb, No FFC NOT SURE, flash, gyroscope, Wi-fi Hotspot supported
Sprint 1gb, Yes FFC NOT SURE, Flash, gyroscope, Keyboard, wi-fi hotspot supported
International 8/16gb, FFC, no Flash, gyroscope (not sure)
As you can see there is something missing in each one.

only US model with a FFC is the Sprint one. and afaik the Sprint one also has the wifi hotspot feature enabled as well albeit extra per month
and reason why they took the FFC out of the ATT Verizon and T-Mobile ones is because those networks dont support video calls. end of story

well its more an issue of bandwidth, 3G can technically support it, but isnt enabled on T-Mobile AT&T or Verizon atm. T-Mobile will most likely be next in line considering they are HSPA+ 21mbps which is faster than WiMax. Plus they just recently launched the Nokia E73 Mode which has a FFC, just video calls not supported currently.
EDIT: My theory as to why ATT Verizon and Tmobile left out the FFC is because unlike the iPhone they cant dictate whether or not its a wifi only feature because of the nature of Android. So since they dont currently have the bandwidth they left it out instead of leaving it in.

well like I said bandwidth issue at the moment. By the end of the year with HSPA+ available to most of its network I think it'll be more commonplace.
How important do you think the camera flash is? I want to take decent photos but don't know how much the flash plays into that.
Also the Epic 4G is the only one with a dedicated camera button.
How do you think the sliding keyboard be? I'd be concerned that it'd be too flimsy and break easily. I'd like a keyboard but not one that is weak.
All in all the Sprint Epic looks like the one for me. Except for the keyboard question.

I think it's more like $150-$200 difference without a contract.
With the Galaxy S you get a front-facing camera, as well as an unlocked phone without carrier logos plastered on the front - which alone might be worth it to many.
I also much prefer the large middle button on the Galaxy S, than the 4-button array on the carrier phones.
I understand the front facing camera and I much prefer the design of the I9000 but if I buy Captivate it will be with 2yr contract and I don't know if it is enough to justify the extra cash especially if I cannot upgrade to iPhone 4 and sell for profit.
If my Samsung Captivate is rooted the software on both devices will be the same correct?

Do you live in an area with 1900mhz 3g coverage? If not, you will be able to use only edge with the i9000.
I bought the SGS for AT&T because of the front camera, no AT&T tampering, and I prefer the SGS look over the Captivate. Also, I don't live anywhere near 3g, so I'm okay with just edge. But it did cost me an arm and a leg.
Is there a map where I can see 850 mhz v 1900 mhz I found one but it is old
A map would be great.
In my part of Los Angeles, I get 3G/H on AT&T probably 70% of the time, the rest is E.
well I decided to purchase the Samsung Captivate, but would still like a map in case I decide to switch within 30 days
It might also be possible for you to get the dumb phone data plan if you have an international version of the Galaxy S because AT&T probably wouldn't have their IMEI numbers... But then again, I'm not 100% sure on how they do their sweeps so dont quote me on this
Afaik you won't be able to use custom roms, becouse of diffrences that captivate has. So yes its worth to pay more...

At least it is not an iphone. The lte feature will be useless for most until iphone lte makes its ulgy apperance.
I am so glad I got mine before AT&T gets a hold of it and bloats it up and put LTE on it and kills the great battery life. No thanks! I will stick with HSPA+, better battery life, no bloat, and timely updates. I have my skyrocket for LTE and NFC etc. One upside will be that there will be more cases etc to choose from once it launches here in the USA.
I am sure AT&T will announce it at CES coming up.
I'm on AT&T and care not. Love my international version. I just hope AT&T doesn't cook up some crappy new plan for the Note since the average consumer will closely identify it with a tablet (because of screen size and stylus). That may impact us users on our current data plan...

I feel it is the opposite. Part of the reason there are so many Iphone accessories, is that there is only one Physical version.
DO NOT WANT.
Why would they mangle a beautiful device like that? I hate capacitive buttons. Besides, with the S-pen gesture recognition, they aren't even necessary. They're just there to be accidentally pressed when you're trying to hold the thing in landscape.
Same here. By the time at&t gets enough LTE penetration in the USA market, the Note 3 or 4 will be out LOL.
I prefer a manufacturer device, than a carrier branded device. Less bloat & crippling.

Couldn't agree with you more. This device's attractiveness comes with the ability to take notes and the more obstructions the less attractive that beautiful option becomes.

It's really up to you but you'll be paying a premium getting the international unlocked version of the phone. I payed 649$ on Amazon. But it won't have the carrier bloatware, if you get the UK version you won't have LTE which can be a plus depending on your coverage area and if you don't mind having a lowered battery life. There is also the processor which is different the international version has the exynos which is a lot better than the snapdragon processor going to be put in the US release. To each his own in the end but I'm glad that I got the international version, best phone I've ever owned period and I will continue to use it until the next version comes out. I'll most likely import that too hahaha

Galaxy Note Rebuilt

Hello I have Samsung Galaxy Note N7000. I love this phone and the big home button that it provides. Since this phone can not run on the US T-Mobile network at 4G speed I was wondering if anyone knows if my crazy idea will work.
Some time later in the future when it will be posible to buy the mainboard from US I717 phone, I would like to buy it and replace it into the international model. Any Idea if this will work?
Any other suggestions?
Anyone able to get their international n7000 working at 4G on US network?
It a hardware and software problem, why not just trade it for an Att note?

perhaps the poster as he said likes the big Home Button (Physical) on the International one.. it might be his deciding factor in just replacing the motherboard (to the ATT version) and yet still retaining the home button factor on the International version.
My guess is it's not going to work. You'll be running into trouble with the 4 capacitive buttons vs. the mix of capacitive and hardware buttons.
Now just maybe the motherboards are generic and have the option to connect 4 capacitive or 2 capacitive and 1 hardware button with the AT&T version having some added hardware for the 4G implementation but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
Yes I really enjoy the Big home button it feels so natural for this device, I really wish to keep it, but I should probably exchange it for the AT&T one
So wish that it would work. Oh well may be some day when I'm rich I'll try to build the phone like that just to see if it would work from separate parts

US SIII Confirmation for June

Article at engadget showing information about the SIII on the US carriers. Comes with the S4 processor and 2 gigs of RAM and the standard features.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/04/...rier-launch-att-verizon-sprint-t-mobile-uscc/
Thoughts?
I just hope they can keep the body style that same. It really takes away from the accessory market. Having 5 variants of the same phone is silly (minus the internal differences).
-sent from my mobile device
I wish they made 2 versions of the S3 just like the S2. One international-like version for people who don't even have LTE in their area and followed by the LTE version. I'd take quad core over LTE any day...
Sent from my AT&T SGSII on XDA
But the S4 dual core is no sloth...its a beast! plus 2gig of ram ...the thing will fly.
its might actually be better than the international model....especially if you are in an LTE area.
More cores doesn't necessarily mean more power keep that in mind... the S4 is still quite powerful for a mobile device. I do however hope that they keep the same exterior design on the US models. I don't think it will be too much different though... At least I hope not, though it does say that the different versions are customized for each carrier. We do know that T-Mobile is keeping the original design.

Easily, Hell I could do it. Though out of the big US carriers I could see T-Mobile to be more likely to leave well enough alone than the others.
