Few Questions PLEASE ANSWER! :) - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hello, i just wanna know some things about the samsung galaxy s. amd please please answer, because i really want to buy it but im also thinking of buying the nexus one.
1). Hows the vibration? Can you feel it good or do you have to have it on your hand in order to feel it.
2). Can you have the same lockscreen as on the nexus one?
3). Which would you rather get the NEXUS ONE or the SAMSUNG GALAXY S? I really like the nexus one because its fast and everything with Froyo 2.2 and it has an LED but i aslo like the galaxy s because of the 4 inch screen and the 720p video capture.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

I think the vibration is fine but that could be me, I'd go for the Galaxy S in my opinion but the Nexus One is a good phone too, I'm just looking forward to 2.2 on my Galaxy, hopefully soon fingers crossed.
About the lockscreen, i'm not sure you can change it but I'm sure someone will know

Galaxy s is faster. Why move backwards?

Get the SGS, i don't think you'll be deceived.

Nexus one do have the faster update.
But SGS have the better hardware. I think the hardware is more important since SGS will update to 2.2 anyway.

Id go with the nexus one, although on paper ths SGS has better hardware, the UI lags and touchwiz is really boring, brings no innovation whatsoever, and with the nx1 you're guaranteed updates from google, unlike samsung which will probably move on in a couple of months when they have a new flagship phone
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Id go with the galaxy S. If you don't like the touchwiz, you can always use launcher pro. And since SGS has a better hardware, it will be a monster when it gets Froyo! Can't wait
PS: If you mean the "connect the dots" lock screen, yes. If you mean the slide to unlock, no(as far as I know).

Galaxy S worthy?

Hi guys,
I'm new to Samsung phone sincerely. I'm coming from HTC lines and currently decided to move on to Samsung's. As far as my budget concerns, I'm capable of buying either Galaxy S i9000 (rm12xx), Nexus S i9023 (rm12xx) and Galaxy S PLUS i9001 (rm13xx). So comparing to these phones, which one seems the best to be grabbed? both Galaxy S runs on S-Amoled screens while Nexus S only on S-LCD (amoled is not available in my country). In term of long term planning, does Galaxy S hardware technology can support more than Gingerbread? As for i9001 which pre-installed with Gingerbread, does this also capable to port more than Gingerbread generation?
ps: hope someone will welcome me here.
Thanks.
Hi,
From these phones I'd choose the Nexus or the i9000.
Why?
Nexus -> Google-Updates. But LCD? Why don't you order a Nexus with SAMOLED from another country?
i9000 -> good phone, thousands of custom-ROMs
S+ : no custom ROMs. It runs with 1.4GHz, but you can overclock the i9000
Nobody here can say if Ice Cream Sandwich will be released for the SGS officially. But CM7 will bring it to us I think.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Galaxy s is a good phone, and now it has a CM7 stable, that make it really good.
Nexus s probably would be better because of Google updates, but if it has LCD and not SAMOLED, maybe I would choose SGS.
I just converted from HTC to SGS, and man this phone with Darkys 10.1 extreme rom + lagfix is just so much win... id go for the SGS

Only down for the SGS is the GPS.
It can be easely used for tracking and going around, but the thing is kind of a gamgle when it comes to tracking (sports related) or anything precise.
But, in the other hand, is there any phone that can be as precise as what some of us need... I'd be curious to try the Nexus S and compare tracks.
BTW: I totaly love the SGS, woudln't trade it for anything! That's why I got an Zephyr HxM
Nexus S used to be a better choice before. However, the dev community in NS is very low in comparison to SGS. That would be my main reason why I'd go for SGS. However, having said that, NS seems to get better "quadrant" scores but I don't know whether there's much difference really.
We got Sammy ROMs, MIUI, CM7, Sense 3.0 comming up as well. Good choice imo no?
I think if you dig somewhere around here there was a comparison between the 2.
Like someone said the Nexus S is really a step down from the SGS. Also the GPS chip should be the same so it should suffer from the same issues with GPS.
The other factors are the use of LCD rather than Amolder, no SD card slot, thicker (although this is a bit of a plus for me), no front camera, no radio (AOSP Issue), no other roms except AOSP based which makes the camera use only SD (no HD recording).
I have to say the SGS with CM7 is a completely different phone. I am using Miui
US at the moment but CM7 makes really the phone fly (and I am no fanboy).
I had a quick play with SGS2 and althogh I spend only a couple of minutes on it it felt a bit slower on the interface than the SGS with CM7. I have to admit that I think this is due to launcherpor though.

Hi, i guess u are right, u'll tend to get lost here inside Galaxy S' forum as there are too much roms to choose for, compare to Nexus S. However, it also has proven that the quality over Nexus S' roms seems undeniable also. You can try to check this link http://smartphonebenchmarks.com/ to see how their custom roms and kernel would affect their permormance and increase their quadrant score up to 4k+. Amazing thing, i guess
There's also rumors that Nexus S will get Ice Cream Candy UI, which is not confirmed for Galaxy S. By the way, the main issue came afterwards as I cant get the S-amoled display for Nexus S, which sounds a lose. So, either the future updates vs screen capabilities become either to be chosen for!
As for Galaxy S PLUS, this has been confusing me as well. Even someone keeps on mentioning that GS PLUS is just the overclocked version of SGS, for me it was totally different things especially for future investment, as it uses different board, different processor (Snapdragon) and different GPU (Adreno 205). Furthermore, it comes with Gingerbread on stock, which show that there's possibilities that this phone can port 2.4 and above!
Nah..talked too much, but yet, still confuse
Mate, get a SGS and you will be very happy with it. I did a silly thing that sold my SGS and jumped to NS. Trust me, I missed my SGS so much that I was back on it within 2 weeks (had to buy a new one as I had sold my old one. Silly me). If you go to Nexus S forums -> General, look for a thread Nexus S after Galaxy S but.., or Nexus S - your impressions. You will find many people who would agree. There are many things in SGS to love over NS.

Any previous nexus owners?

Anyone have both or been on both and care to share experiences?
Thanks

My mum has a nexus and I've had a chance to play around with it quite a lot. It's a fantastic phone. Ics is buttery smooth and visually appealing in its aosp form. I've always been a fan of the stock android os. But at the end of the day, as great as The nexus is, it's just a phone.
The note is something unique and special. There's nothing else like it. The screen size is perfect. Once you go to a screen this size, you'll never go back. The only minor letdown for me is the touchwiz interface, but let's be honest, its easily changed. Its also the best manufacturer overlay in my opinion. HTC sense and the LG and Sony offerings are dire. Touchwiz is useable and attractive at least.
The nexus is a great phone, but the note is the one for me. It has drastically cut down on my laptop time. I use it for everything. Its also comfortable as an ereader.

At some point I had both the Nexus and the Note, but I didn't want two devices so I had to decide which one to sell.
I ended up keeping the Note. I loved the Nexus, don't get me wrong, but overall the Note had it's advantages.
The nexus is slick looking and easy to carry, ICS flies on the thing- no lags. A lot have whined about the camera, but personally I found it acceptable.
It wasn't easy to choose but after considering that the Note will also have ICS, I chose the Note.
I had the Nexus One (thought I know you're not referring to that one), then upgraded to the G Nexus as soon as it was available. I had considered the Note then, but chose the G Nexus because:
- Developer support and Google support for G Nexus
- I thought the Note was too big
- G Nexus had ICS
- G Nexus didn't have SAMSUNG logo on the front and it looked so cool being all black, and not the mention the sexy curve (hence my name for it was "Sexy Nexy").
So, after getting the G Nexus, I loved it! THe screen was so beautiful - my first experience of a super amoled screen, and I was blown away by how black the black was. And the size - super for reading.
I became addicted to big screens.
Then I started thinking... wouldn't it be EVEN BETTER with an even bigger screen, like the 5.3" on the Note?? I couldn't stop thinking about it. Eventually, I gave in, and sold the G Nexus and bought the Note. These were the reasons:
- Addicted to big screens, and was convinced the Note was not going to be too big (I was sooo right )
- Camera on Note is quite a bit better, IMO. I don't need 'zero shutter lag' that the G Nexus has, esp if it compromises on quality.
- I was already feeling the pinch on storage space on the Nexus, esp with all the Nandroid backups which were as big as 1Gb each! I just bought a 32Gb micro sd card for my Note, and I feel so much freer now!
- Some apps didn't work on ICS. Also I figured that GB wasn't that bad. Heck, I had lived with it and loved it on my N1 for how long? In any case, ICS should be here pretty darn soon, and by that hopefully all the apps I use will support it.
- I actually like having the row of fixed capacitative buttons and hard button on the Note. It is positioned right at the bottom of the phone, so actually, if you compare with the Nexus, it doens't take up any additional space (cos in the Nexus, there's just blank wasted space there). The great thing about having the buttons there is that your 'real' screen does not need to get wasted with the software buttons when ICS comes along - ie., you're getting even more screen real estate than you think!
- Better hardware on the NOte - processor and GPU. I also read and watched youtube reviews that seemed to indicate that the Note was quite a lot faster, and that the battery life is much better. (I can confirm both to be very true! - and see the youtube vid of someone with alpha CM9 on the Note, commenting that ICS feels even faster on the Note than on his Nexus!)
- I still think the Nexus is better-looking, but how far is looks going to get you? Also, I can live with the Samsung logo on the screen
- As for developer support, it was becoming clear to me that the Note was becoming very popular, and was getting a lot of developer support too. So far, it's definitely looking very true.
- Lastly, again - the screen size is so fantastic! I no longer use my tablet (ipad), even when I have both at my disposal. It's just so much easier to use the Note esp when lying down on the couch and reading from it.
If the above helps you, please press the 'THANK' button, thanks!!
I got a Note yesterday. I agree with all of the above. Nexus will be being sold very shortly. All other screens now look too small. Also, the signal seems better on the Note.
So far, only 2 things I don't like on the Note: (1) Gingerbread, but that will be upgraded soon and (2) Touchwiz, but when modded ICS ROMs come out, I'll start using them instead. Oh, and I'm not sure how I'm going to jog with my Note - it won;t fit in the pockets on my skins!
I have Ics on my a500 and love it and know its only a matter of time before the note has it so n biggie there. I also owned q streak when they were out so i lived the 5" screen ans have been craving it ever since . My infuse is nice but i want a unique phone like the note again.
Thanks for sharing guys, good stuff

I had a Galaxy S1 and allways said that my next phone will be a Nexus phone.. >PERIOD<
There I go, 2 weeks ago got all excited and went to the electronic store to buy me the GNexus.. Yeah!
Wallked to the phone section and there it was, the awsome nexus, just waiting on me.. i picked it up. .. Had it in my hand, played with it and then i looked to the left.. Right next to the GNexus was the GNote.. I though.. Hmmmmmmmmmm. ..
After a few sec. Thinking and comparing both on the fly, I decided to go for the note, it fits excacly my needs and so far i dont regret it..
Sammy got me again... Dammn.. ;-) before i got the sgs i actually wanted the N900..
So get what you like, its just for the time being and only a phone..

I had both, kept the Note. Both are good phones. Video & battery life is better on the Note and the lack of expandable storage really on the Nexus tipped it.

Thinking about getting the note over the nexus..

I have the Samsung galaxy nexus. I think its a decent phone but I expected it to be more. I don't like the 5mp pixel, no sd slot, and pentile screen. I feel its a bit sluggish time to time since its pushing such a high resolution.
I have someone that offered me his note for my nexus. I never thought of getting a note until this point. I know the phone is big but that's about it.
I know this is a note section and most people are going to say the note. Would any of you choose the nexus over the note? if so why? and if not why?
do keep in mind nexus is the first to receive updates and has a huge dev support. Oh and NFC.
first of all i dun like the looks of the nexus from backside...and the camera is too a 5mp....buttt i hate that my note doesnt show the white as it should be....its yellowish on the top....i advice you to check the note throughly for any screen defects before u exchange your nexus for it...

I had a Nexus before I bought the International Note. I didn't mind the Nexus camera when I had the phone. But when I got this phone I was blown away by how much better the camera was than on the Nexus. I miss the development from the Nexus group, but that's about it. I don't mind gingerbread as much as I thought I would. The screen on the Note is top knotch, typing is fantastic, the camera is wonderful, and the Note doesn't struggle to find reception in areas where my Nexus did. All in all I'm very happy with the International Note.. now all we need is ICS.

I wouldn't say it's clearly inferior. Hardware wise it's not as nice as the Note, but the software on the Nexus more than makes up for that. For those that don't give a rats ass about hardware specs and think the Note is too big, the Nexus is a fine choice. Just sayin'.

I lost my Galaxy Nexus last week. I went to my phone-store the day after to get a new Nexus, but a played a little with the Note and thought. What the hell! It is not THAT big.
So I ended up with a Galaxy Note, and I can tell you: I could NEVER go back to the Nexus. This thing is amazing. It is very very very much faster, fluid and responsive.
It runs gingerbread, but it doesnt even matter. I dont even miss ICS. And imagine when the Note gets official ICS. It will be game over.
I had the Nexus before, it whas time for my girl to renew her subscription and i told her to get the Note and we traded! I think the Nexus is a good phone but it's not really good overall, it only has 16gb the hardware is kinda not the best, and i didn't like the screen a lot. I would go for the Note once it has ICS it will outperform the Nexus in all departments
That was my choice when I made my decision and for the same reasons as you have identified I chose the note. Having since played with a nexus, I know I made the right choice.
I was between the two and got the note as it seemsled to be the better device in general. Sometimes it lags but it's huge battery and awesome screen make up for it. Also the camera is very good. I highly recommend it. It's great.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note.
One of my close friends has the Nexus and in all seriousness, the Note not only out-performs it but is a much better device in general. On a daily basis i use the AOKP build and LOVE it. It's very stable with only a few very minor bugs and when we start getting some ICS kernels the device will be blowing the competition out of the water. I use the on screen buttons but i frequently turn them off when gaming so i don't touch them (not to mention use the extra screen real estate which is fantastic). Choose which suits you best, but in all honesty you can't go wrong with the Note. Expandable storage, on-screen and hardware buttons, 5.3 inch screen, tablet or phone mode, it's the perfect device.
I have both right now, the GNex on T-Mo and the GNote on Straight Talk, both 100% stock. The only time I ever even touch the Nexus any more is if I happen to be in an area where the Straight Talk (AT&T) service is bad.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
The Note
I would go with The Note hands down. It's the better hardware, and as far as updates and dev support go, the Note already has a variety of ICS roms to choose from and this is before the official ICS update has been released. There's a healthy dev community for the Note and I expect it to only grow. You won't be missing out with the lack of NFC, especially if you're in North America, as there's been little use of it by companies and we probably won't be seeing its full potential being realized for another couple of years, at which point you'll be ready for a new device.
I purchased the note...few weeks later, I was kind of "hm...the nexus could do the trick as well" and sold the note for a nexus.
7 Days later the Nexus had to leave...and buyed a note again
+ camera is WAY better (my Sony HX9V gets bored in my locker)
+ better screen
+ microSD
+ SPen
+ much faster GPS fix
+ superior Internet experience
+ better headphone sound quality (this is warground...just my impression
- bigger (?)
if it suits your needs, get it. and this goes both ways for nexus or note. if you are a firmware freak who wants to get the pissing right to say you have the latest android version, go get the nexus. but if you only want to run stock and the hardware compliments your mobile life, get the note.
i am inclined to get a nexus sometime soon. camera pixels? i got my dslr to handle that department.
Note
Note you can't get better phone at the moment! Before Note I've owned HD2 and that phone has ICS just like Galaxy Nexus. Belive me once you will have such a big phone as Note you won't want enything that's smaller from Note!
I was so going to grab a nexus still might just bc I dont think the next google phone will be from sammy........sigh but seeing all this has made me wonder about the gsm note......anyone picked up the lte gsm note ? pricey but yeah lol.
I believe the note screen is also pentile like the nexus, correct? Only reason i prefer the nexus is higher pixel resolution looks sharper since both screens are same res, note is just larger. Both are pentile.

GS3 launches tomorrow..

Galaxy S3 will launch tomorrow (May 3rd 1PM EST)..
If i don't get ICS+PS on my note before GS3 releases on public.....
I'm gonna go for S3!!!!!!!!!
I guess not... I dont think I can't look at anything smaller than 5.3" anymore
Surely the note cant be too far away from getting official ICS. The current versions are pretty good just lacking video performance of gingerbread and a few little bugs which is the only reason I went back to GB until official ICS is out.
I think the GS3 is still a step down from the note, slightly smaller screen 4.8 vs 5.3, 720P not 800p like the note no stylus etc. Only thing going for it would be slightly smaller form factor and upgraded processor.
The note with ICS is very smooth and the processor is good enough IMHO and I dont know what the battery size of the GS3 will be but I doubt it will be any bigger then 2500mah and possibly smaller.
I cant see many people ditching a note to go GS3 unless they need the absolute latest and I will rather hold out for note2. I think the size is pretty good but if they can squeeze more screen area into the same form factor at 1080P with upgraded camera and new cpu then I will upgrade to that.
GS3 will runing TW5 ?
samsung sad "TW5 never coming to s2 "
TW5 will be coming Gnote ?
I'm sure you all know there's a Galaxy S III forum, and that the Note forum is not really the right place to discuss that.
Do you "people" think no one reads tech sites like yourself. Pm me if your getting rid of it.

I think its time we need two sticky threads regarding S3 and Note2.
S3 is not the prettiest phone out there, but interesting to see Samsung really pushing for differentiation via TouchWiz. Would be nice to see some of that trickle down to the Note when ICS is launched. I'm one of those oddballs who quite like TW on the Note, and these new software features should certainly run fine on the Note. Would be like getting a whole new phone .

[Q] Nexus 4 from Note 2 question

Hi all,
Well, hope someone can give me their opinions here.
I have had a Samsung Galaxy note II for a couple of months now, but I am considering getting the Nexus 4 since I want stock Android and get access to the latest Android updates.
Also, the Note II has been a little big to me.
I heared somewhere that the microphone of the phone is not that good, is this really true?
How do you like the phone? Is this a good choice?
I know that some peole may chooce the Samsung for it's screen, but other than that?
Another thing is the built in battery on the Nexus 4 wich I don't like, but suppose one has to live with that.
Any comments please!
Many thanks!

I had a note 2 before the N4 came out. And for me the note 2 was just too big. I like being able to use the whole device with one hand.
That said. The mic on the N4 is fine when making voice calls. the problem I noticed is when recording video, or using apps like voxer walkie talkie or VOIP apps. Basically anything other than voice calls. I can't explain why, but it just sounds like your always way to close to the mic.
The ear piece has some fuzz sound on voice calls (unless they fixed it in newer revisions.).
I also feel like the signal is worse with this phone. What ever the logistics are it will often go from 3 bars to 1 bar without evening touching it, but doesn't seem to affect the use of it unless you're in a poor coverage area already then it will show no service much more often than my G nex or Note 2 did.
The note 2 has much better battery life because of size and I like that it is removable. I also really like the wireless charging on the Nexus. I miss SD slot on note.
All that said. I still prefer the nexus over the note 2 at this point.

I also had the Galaxy Note 2 and it is a great phone with very good batterylife. But what i like more is the pure android xperience without the touchwizz shell over it, the bleeding edge cpu and gpu and fast updates. Also i like the size and usabilty is better than on th GN2. And since 4.2.2 batterylife has improved a lot. I would recommend the Nexus 4 for daily use and speed and the Note 2 if you like using the S-pen features and appreciate the screen size.
Hi,
Many thanks for your replies!
That sounds good, I don't use the S-pen and it's OK with not using the big screen as the Note 2 has and as i said, want to get the new Anroid updates and I don't know if the Note 2 will be updated to v4.2. I don't like the touchwiz that much either so I can live without it.
How is the loud speaker on the phone then? Is it OK?
Some people have said that this is a downgrade from Note 2, but I don't think so.
Many thanks!
The speaker is okay to me, but I don't expect a lot from phone speakers. Definitely not as good as the note's though.

The Note II will probably be updated to 4.2.1/4.2.2 around Q2 2013 (so that is when the next v. of android will be announced.)
