I've just got an Xperia X10 and I've got to say that I find using the keyboard to be a pain.
I hear that this phone can now be rooted. Can someone explain the benefits of doing that at this time? Can I upgrade to 2.1 early?
Finally, I find that they're some apps that I can't find on the market (e.g. RunKeeper, Skype) using the Xperia.
Does anyone know why this is?
Thanks.
use the search on the forum everything your asking has been covered over and over

Hey, there are a few alternatives to Runkeeper listed here: http://superuser.com/questions/23409/runkeeper-on-android . Also, fring is going to get Skype back as soon as they fix their servers.
Edit: Nimbuzz works too, so I am told.
Android Variations: Check em out!

That's a much better keyboard.
Is there a list of top tips to get the most out of the X10?
Any other ones you'd recommend?

I have a friend with a HTC Desire and he was able to find it in the market.
Why can't I find it? Does this relate to version numbers?

I used a very similar thing on my old SPV C600 Smartphone and it was brilliant..
Feedback welcome...

Does anyone know when a WM5 version of this will be released or if there is another program similar?
Try PhoneAlarm .. it has profiles .. but donno if it can switch them dynamically based on the location ...
Here is a link to another version but it says its not fully compatible with all PDA's. Anyone used it on a PDA?

cell-profiler is pretty poor imo, the full version of phonealarm does let you switch profiles based on cell id. Ive been using it for weeks.....great app!!
Its the app i was looking for because i used to use Magic-Profiles pro on my P900 which did the same thing.

The thing I don't like about phonealarm is the look and feel, it looks like the home page is going to be really busy and I also used SPB Diary so would it clash with this?
Has anyone used PPCProfiles for switching on a scheduled basis? If so how did this compare to phonealarm?
Thanks
Mark
I've been looking all over the place of one I saw a video of but I have had no luck in finding it. Does anyone know of where I can get access to one? Thank you. I want to know how it works so that I can try and make my own.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=5158you can get the IME you need in this thread as well as some help. Remember you need to push three files for it to work. Oh and you need to use adb
Hi,
A good keyboard that I am using is called big keys updated.
Get it on the market ,do a search, it's free.
It works on on 5.02 h and should work son all cupcake builds.
It also gets rid of the annoying gmail tutorial.

I can do all of that and I have the adb ready to go too but it says the link is invalid (I did remove the 'you' in it as well). As far as I knew I thought threads had six digit references.

Does the Ozone (Maple/Willow) utilize ClearType?
And does anyone know how to tweak the settings? I cannot find a place to do it in the settings folder.

Thanks Pri (my personal search assistant),
I found that and the control panel addon. What I'm wondering is it used as default in the Maple/Willow?
Specifically I wonder because I've noticed the rendered type in some programs (Skyfire, IE, etc) is not as clear as others. I'm curious - if ClearType is on, would this be an issue with the various apps or if it's not active, would it be an issue that ClearType could resolve.

Hey guys,
When I try to add the ClearType key, I get a "Access Is Denied" prompt. Is there anyway around this? I'm using the Snap unlocked international version btw...
Thanks.

It's already built into the phone. When you have a text window open, press the little triangle just to the right of the keyboard icon at the bottom middle of your screen. This will bring up a list to choose which keyboard you want, and swype is one of the options there.

Hi Guys,
I hope this isn't a stupid question but I'm looking for the Swype keyboard for our new Android OS. I looked in the android app store and even on the Swype website but can't see any download links. I'm guessing it's available so would anyone have a link/app they can point me in the direction of?
Thanks in advance
I second this. I found a few apk's for the droid etc but most of them are expired beta trials and/or aren't suitable for the screen res.
here you go guys

I an using it on my xperia and love it but its still officially in beta our licensed to phone manufacturer only right now. I an on my phone right now so I can't search for it but you might be able to find the.apk and install it. if I find the link latter I'll post it.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Is Swype working on the HD2 for you guys? I have access to the official beta but it doesn't work for me - the keyboard comes up, but it won't recognize any words.

Ok,
I've installed this and it seems to be compatible (thanks a lot). I selected Swype as my default keyboard in the android menu but for some reason when I go to type an SMS, the default android keyboard still seems to appear. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks in advance
longpress on the text field, select swype.
