Can't See Photo Preview in WMDC File Explorer - HD2 General

I searched around, but not for hours and hours so if this has been addressed, I apologize in advance:
I am having some difficulty with importing photos from my HD2. Since I use Windows Mobile Device Center on Vista Ultimate 64-bit, I like to take advantage of the import photos feature. However, unless I delete photos I do not want to import from the phone itself, every time it syncs, it imports the pics I previoulsy deleted back to my PC.
Ok, so I figured, easy problem, I'll just open the file explorer by clicking on "File Management" from the WMDC home screen, and go through the "DCIM" folder and delete the photos off of the phone that I do not want copied to my PC.
Only problem is that when I open the file explorer, the photos will not show at all, just default picture icons. Why? How am I supposed to delete photos from the phone using my PC, expecially if I have a lot of them (which I do), if I can't even tell which is which because there's no thumbnail preview? All my photos that are on my PC show just fine when I use Explorer, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with Vista...
Help??

If 50 people have viewed this thread and you have no responses, then none of those people had the answer available. Please don't make presumptions or comments like that about what help you get from an open, free, volunteer-based resource like this.
Now, you're probably not seeing the preview images because you're connected via the activesync/WMDC option. You'll need to reconnect the phone by USB, and choose "disk drive" option...this will let your PC see the SD card on the phone (and its contents, including the DCIM folder) just like it was a regular external hard drive. Once you do that, you should be able to get thumbnail previews of any pics on there.

DITTO ...
But also just a suggestion, for questions like this that are not specific to the TMO version you should check out the main Leo Forum, as this is more active and also covers a lot more general area, the Q&A Forum there answers most questions already, but a new question is always welcome ...

It's all good then, no worries Bumping threads is perfectly fine (within reason, which you certainly were), it's just that those words can touch a raw nerve here...it's just a pride thing.
So now are you now able to see the thumbnails again? I'm guessing so, but didn't want to assume.

Yes, that does work and I can't believe I didn't think of it! Kind of a pain though to have to remount the phone active sync afterwards but I can live with it.
Thanks for the help.

No prob! Yes that is a pain sometimes, but at least you can point the finger directly at microsoft for that one

Here is what I do.
Here is what I do to import images/picture off my phones SD card. Maybe it will work for you?
I connect my phone using the USB cable and select disk mode on my phone when prompted.( IE NO active sync) Now I like to use Picasa for managing my images. In Picasa I import my images and it knows to not import images that I've previously imported.
This take only a few minutes if that... and I have all my phones pictures on my PC with little to no hassle.
You can download Picasa for FREE from the fine people at Google, just do a search for "Picasa".

Password recovery?

Not sure if this is the right place, but I saw "Hacking" and thought "This must be it."
Anyway, I just fixed a Herald (TMobile Wing) with a broken LCD - now that I can see it again, it's saying that there's a password on it. The owner (my wife's friend) doesn't remember it, and has pictures on the phone of her kid that she would REALLY like to avoid losing if possible.
Is there any way to recover the password on these things? Obviously, a hard reset is not going to be good, since that'll destroy everything. I just need to find a way to get her back in so she can get her pics and address book off of the phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...if this is the wrong forum, please let me know and I'll move my post.
Thanks!
- M
As far as I can remember, a password won't lock down active sync connections so you could use active sync, copy all the files across and then hard reset.
Or possibly, set up a little application that copies all the files from My Documents to a storage card where they can be read by something else.

Unfortunately, ActiveSync is warning me "Your device is currently locked. To connect to or synchronize with this PC, please unlock your device."
I cant get into the phone at all....I think all I might be able to do is make an 'emergency call'.....
Thanks for the reply, though...I appreciate it!

No - I have one I can use, though - it's just never been IN the phone before....
My idea is to use a program to copy all the files from the My Documents folder accross to a storage card. This should be possible because the program that watches for the storage card to be inserted can start a process that can then copy the files. I have seen a program that does the copying somewhere but I can't remember where...

what are these startups?

Hey all.
New owner of the X1 and so far loving the phone.
I've currently got the following on startup on my X1 and I was wondering if someone could be kind enough to explain what it loads and if it's ok to delete:
AutoShortcut
PanelDefault
Panelmanager
poutlook
cheers
I would hazard a guess that poutlook is Pocket Outlook, and PanelDefault / Panelmanager run the Panels interface for Xperia phones.
I don't mean to be nasty or rude, but if you didn't know what Panelmanager is then that suggests that you should perhaps spend some time learning more about your device before you start deleting stuff.
For now I suggest you leave things be and just enjoy playing with it.

You could create a backup of your settings and try it out for yourself, if you do not want to heed other people's warnings.
1) Panel Manager would not load (so no panel when u restart the phone).
For the other files you have the description here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410139&page=16
Also you should (have) post(ed) in a section that's designed just for you guys...

Thanks for the bad attitude reply. If you don't have anything nice to say, ignore post.
I believe I posted in the right section, if i didn't I apologies but let the admins worry about that.
Hey, come on...play fair. There's no bad attitude here, stormlv is trying to be helpful, as am I.
Another option you have is to RENAME the files with a different extension so they are no longer recognised and the OS won't know what to do with them so they won't run.
That way you can discover what the behaviour of the device is, and if it doesn't please you then you just rename them back again.
if you are not using outlook then you could try deleting that and for panel manager i am not sure because sometime before i have had panel manager crash but the panel interface still works so maybe it restarts its self when you press the panel button - as Mr Anderson said renaming the files would be a good way to test which ones you do and dont want
one should avoid deleting anything beyond the Windows folder unless you know what you are doing.
any files to delete would be stored in ur device documents folder, like pics, vids, and other stuff that i call demo files

Hello,
How about adding "send via bluetooth" function into "Albums" application ?
Currently there is no such function in Albums. So if you're watching photos you can't send them via bluetooth. This is very stupid and inconvenient - you need to open another application like File Explorer or Multimedia, then waste your time to find that picture, which you wanted send to your friend and then send via bluetooth. It's ridiculous... because Multimedia doesn't allow to switch photos by finger sweep/slide. Another FAIL from Microsoft...

Use the "Pictures & videos" application (Start, Multimedia, Pictures & Videos). Long-hold on an image or video to bring up the menu, where you can send via bluetooth. This program also allows you to swipe left and right to change image.

You should maybe not have such a negative attitude when asking for help. It puts people off trying.
The pictures & videos application was written by Microsoft. The Albums application was not. It was written by HTC. Basically, the Microsoft one works.

Album looks much better then "Pictures & Videos" and switching pictures in Albums looks also better. And in Albums you see pictures really in FULL-screen mode unlike in Pictures & Videos.
So, the question was: Is it possible to add "Send via Bluetooth" in Albums application ? Maybe some kind of registry tweaks ?

Since it's imperative that you do this with that one particular application, I will answer the question you asked.
No. It cannot be done.
Incidentally, this is the wrong forum to ask this question and you should always put a proper title, but you're obviously new here and still learning
If ALBUM is not a Microsoft aplication why you state that it's a Microsoft fail ? You need to learn a lot how to use windows mobile or try and iPhone that is made for people who dont botter to learn anything.... ah! you cant send pictures via bluetooth in iphone too LOL

I didn't know that, thanks for info. It means it's HTC fail. It looks stupid, cause they left there options to send pictures from album by e-mail, by mms, send to Facebook - but no bluetooth option!! I wonder why? That's just the major file sharing wireless standard.
I setup now Resco Photo Manager which does exactly what I wanted. It supports Bluetooth and all other standards, It even supports Multitouch, not only for resizing pictures - but even for rotating images!! Wonderful! That's really what I was dreaming about!

Is there a way to choose what albums to show in Photo Album?

Now, this thread is exactly how it sounds however a little deeper.
Months and months back I read a thread about a way to be able to choose which albums show up in the albums panel under the photo tab on manilla. I am NOT refering to what photos simply show up on the actual photo tab. In order to chose that it's fairly simple
Under photo tab choose Albums (left soft key) then albums again. Once there a list of all the photo albums on the phone and storage card will show up. Scroll to the album you want displayed then select menu then "set album as favorite".
What I want to know is how to make it so only certain albums show up in the album view.... ie Under photo tab choose Albums (left soft key). It's sort of a pain having to scroll past wallpaper albums, thumb nailed albums of facebook contacts, random photos stored on the storage card, icon sets etc tc.
Currently I'm running Version 3.2 Build 2011.2422. I know on the stock rom for ATT I never had this issue. When I was running the stock rom is when I read about someone coming up with a way to show only specific albums but since I didnt need it I sort of discregarded it.
If anyone can help this would be great. I know a lot of others are looking for this too.
Thanks
This is what I use in my rom...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\HTCAlbum]
"favorite_folder"="\\My Documents\\Wallpapers"
From what I can tell, HTC Album seems to scan the FS for all images, and then creates an "Album" for each folder that it finds files within.
By scanning the registry, I found this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored
An example from my registry is:
Name: Camera
Data: \My Documents\Templates
All you need to do is add a new Registry item here, name it whatever you want, and set the Data to be the path that you want to ignore.
Then, just restart HTC Sense (Settings -> Today -> Toggle Windows Default, OK, then Toggle back to HTC Sense)
Some of the ones that I've added to ignore are:
Name: FBCache
Data: \temp\fbimagecache
Name: OnlineAlbumTemp
Data: \OnlineAlbumTemp
Name: UAContents
Data: \My Documents\UAContents
Name: Sashimi
Data: \Storage Card\SASHIMI
Name: Programs
Data: \Program Files
Name: AppData
Data: \Application Data
This should drastically clean up your Albums to only be the folders that you "want" the Album to find.

You act like people are born the day they sign up for XDA Developers.
Thanks for the info, it's definitely something I'll be doing because I just recently had been bugged by this same issue once I decided to start using HTC Album over CorePlayer to watch MP4s.
Thanks for the compliment... I do consider myself newbie. Hopefully, I'll be able to contribute more as time goes by.

I didn't take it as an insult. I just thought it was humorous that you associate post count to ability. Really, one of the principle developers of Windows Mobile or HTC devices could sign up for this forum tomorrow and blow our minds with his first post.
I got this file from ppcgeeks.com
Credit goes to the author, I have no idea who it was. I did a search over there but couldnt find it.
I take absolutely zero credit, but it works and hides whatever folders you want from the htc Album.
If anyone knows who the author is please let me know so proper credit can be given.

High resolution pictures for contacts

Hello,
Does anyone knows how to have high resolution pictures for contacts without 3rd party software?
Thank you.
No one?
Thank you
You need to have the picture on the phone then select use contact icon-existing contact if they are already in the phone book and you should be all set. If you try to do it through Outlook on the computer they will look bad.

This.
Or use Facebook contact pics!
my solution works with a little script (dont know if you can call that 3rd party app), but it works perfectly and fast, too:
found it a long time ago in these forums, but cant find the original thread anymore...
THIS IS NOT WRITTEN BY MYSELF, BIG THANKS TO THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR!!!
1) rename your high-res-contactpictures to firstname_lastname.jpg
2) place the exe and the contactpictures in a folder on your HD2
3) execute the .exe, follow the instructions
greetings, lauchi
