Hi all.
I'm not really sure if this is the right place to put this, but it's driving me right crazy. Here's some background:
I have a G2 Touch (Hero) on T-Mobile.
I was running T-Mobile Android 1.5 on it, build 2.73.
A while back I did the goldcard thing, but never updated the ROM, as I heard a rumour that 2.1 was coming soon enough.
I got the "prep" update for 2.1, which broke my phone (hazard triangle screen). I read on forums that I needed to reflash the T-Mobile ROM and then it would work fine.
I took a ROM I'd downloaded which I thought was the T-Mobile ROM... you can see where this is heading... I have no idea what ROM it was or where I got it from, but it was probably one I'd downloaded in the goldcard setup.
Anyway, the mystery ROM loaded fine, as did the prep update. I then got the 2.1 update, which also loaded fine.
There's the history - I'll apologise now for that.
Currently my phone is running as follows:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.11
Kernel version: 2.6.29-063c4d24 [email protected] #1
Build number: 3.32.405.1 CL191507 release-keys
And so to the problem:
Since updating, I seem to have no permission on my phone to write/delete files. For example, putting an ebook file into the books folder of my sdcard just won't let me. I can do it via my PC using the sdcard as a drive, but I need to be able to do it on my phone so the book reader picks it up.
Can anyone help with my stupidity?
You could try to backup your files from the SD Card to a computer, put the SD Card back into the hero. And go to settings, and choose to format the SD Card.
Then place the files back to the SD Card from the computer.
Don't know if it will work, but it's worth a shot?
I thought about that - but then I thought would that cause trouble with the goldcard thing I did on the SD card?
Okay.. I formatted my sd card to no luck. I then removed my book reader (Aldiko). I then uninstalled the file manager (Astro), as it refused to delete the Aldiko folder on my card. Then I installed Linda File Manager which was able to delete folders from my sd card. I then reinstalled Aldiko and it loaded books fine. Beats me.
I'm guessing these programs were having issues following the update to 2.1, but a reinstall seems to be the cure.
Did you sort this? I'm having a similar issue, can't write to my SD card..
I get this error message when I try to change permissions: "sdcard permissions cannot be changed because the file system is read-only."
uh yeah - see my previous post above yours!

I've been using android on my phone for awhile, and tried a bunch of different builds and never got this error. Yesterday when i was switching back to shubcraft all of the sudden the boot loader gives me
mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed: invalid argument
failed
failed to mount sd card. cannot continue.
/bin/sh: cant't access tty; job control turned off
i tried loading just about ever build and get the same thing.
I've changed the startup.txt and i always reformat before i switch builds. i was thinking it might be the sd card itself, but it works fine in winmo.
if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated, im having android withdrawls...
oh and its the stock 16gb class 2
EDIT: It randomly started working again...strange...
This Is What I Do
I was getting either the same thing or something very close to it on about 2 rom to the best of my understanding is when your trying to flash (for lack of better words) a new rom you still have some left over traces either on your storage card or the phone so what you need to do is format your SD card and reflash your phones rom.
I took the origin file put it on my sd card unzipped it there went into the android rom folder cut the plain android folder paste it withe the other folders then reased every folder EXCEPT the PLAIN ANDROID FOLDER now put the sd card in the phone enable the the sound then install android.
To be able to watch the process after you flash your rom go to settings, system, power (battery) and uncheck everything so it doesn't sleep. when you install now you will see the progress and will be able to read the progress if you see 2 things have failed
This is my process and it hasn't failed yet when I didn't do it this way I had fails.

you can search a tool named SDFORMATER V2.0, it will be worked.
okay this is now happening to me as well!
had been using Android and various different builds without hitch.
but today after trying the Hyperdroid build the sd card fails to mount on startup.
Editing the startup.txt does nothing, have also flash to the latest chuckyrom and formatted the sd card time and time again and tried different builds.
anyone have any other suggestions?
Ta
working again now.
the fix for me was to reupload my backup to the sd, format then upload the required new build.
very odd...

Hi guys!
yesterday I finally decided to install Android NAND. Everything worked just fine - BIG thanks to all developers at this point!
There's only one big problem: it seems like Android doesn't find my sd-card. I can access, format, write and read via my cardreader, but in Android's SD-card settings there's no sd-card available.
things I tried to do:
removing sd card: android says, that the card has been removed
rebooting system without wifi: no changes
formatting sd with fat32 in windows: no changes
here some general information:
android version: 2.2
kernel: 2.6.32.15-g66f6ed7-dirty
baseband: 15.40.50.07U_2.12.50.02_2
please can anyone help? thanks in advance!
OK, here's an update:
I just tried another micro sd from a friend's galaxy I9000 - and it works! Though, I don't think, that my own sdcard is broken, since I can work with it via the cardreader.
One thing could be important: earlier I formatted the sdcard for using it as goldcard. Therefore I have been working with a tool called PSAS. I guess, this changed something. Can this process be reversed?
Thanks for your replies!

I don't think that using your SD-Card as goldcard is the problem, i've done the same with my SD-Card and it works without Problems.

do you use winmo, and which rom do you want to flash, and what steps do you make?
Yes, i am using a winmo, HTC HD2
i tried many roms, and i am talking about the ROM, not android.
and on each ROM i tried to load different Android, but it still
do not work.........stuck on a screen every time
Basically i use "energy rom", http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
and tried with American Android ((( this one worked on a first sd -card)))
steps from a beginning : i flash rom on my phone, after hard reset, i flash it from my PC. then i copy the "Android" folder on sd card of my phone, then with "file explorer" i enter the "android" file ((for example - AMERICAN ANDROID)) , i choose CLRCAD, (nothing happens) and then i choose the HARET and loading begins. after that just a screen with HTC logo, a black one. i waited for 20 min, and more - nothing changes. (( tried to reset and load again, same screen, no progress....))
i just have no idea what else to do....
been searching for solution for few days now.
some say that updating the rom helps, but done that.
When i were using winmo i were formatting my sd on such a case. If it doesn't work i was formatting winmo too.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
ye....... the problem is that i done that all.........
just weird.

for example - AMERICAN ANDROID....i take it from your writing.you must put the folder Android to sd card not american android folder. i mean
sd card/android/clrcad then haret. not sd card/american android/android/clrcad
of course, i understand it.
i read manual for 100 times now, just to be sure i am doing things right.
i know the basics.
so lets see :
format to phone and sd card - checked
updated rom - checked
different sd card - checked
different rom with different android - checked
if i think about it know - phone is not working that's why i can't install android.
but - every rom is working good and android did worked once on a old sd card.
so have no idea what to do next.
at first i wanted to copy files from sd card where Android did worked, so there were file named "data.img" , couldn't copy it. don't know why.
so, in order for android to work on a phone now , it must create same file now. maybe card is somehow protected and doesn't allow phone to do it................. but i can copy all other stuff on it.
my knowledge and fantasy just ends here, but it kills me that such a simple thing doesn't work.
and if it doesn't work on an old card either, so can't figure out what causing this problem.
i can lastly say: download a new copy of american android.wipe everything from your sd.unrar american android in your pc.find the android folder.copy android folder to your sd via usb or card reader.clrcad then haret. the rom creates a new data.img in first boot.this rom may take half an hour to load. because i use it also. sorry if i'm unable to help
i had the same problem installing AmeriCanAndroid. it seemed like you did everything right from what i could tell anyway. i would try a different sd build to see if thats the problem.

what about you? did it help, switching sd card?
been trying now different Android, same thing.
@angel182
At the time i was a bit of a noob still am really but when i installed a new sd build i think it solved my problem. if i remember correctly i may have even tried a different winmo rom (omega) which may have helped as well. i really cant be to sure because its been some time now & my memory aint what it use to. lol.
I will say that if you ever want to go to a nand version and dont like it for what ever reason you can always switch back. I'm sorry I couldnt of been more help.
Read this
Let me know if it helped you.
I rooted my A500 and installed Honeyvillian along with the kernel for it. Kernel verison is 2.6.36.4 1.0+ build is 1/05
Everything was find until my son started messing with it and it appears that he did a factory reset. Still have root and the above kernel. Can no longer see my external SD at all no even though it showed before. Even tried the sd format program listed in various threads but no go. Have tried 4 other sd cards and it can not see them either.
I would like to go back to stock but without being able to access the sd what are my options?
boot into recovery
Have you tried to get back into recovery.can you use Acer recovery installer to reinstall cmr.most likely your SD card will be available there.
But im no expert.
Good luck
Can get into recovery just fine but still no sd available.
ok I grabbed Acer_A500_1.139.04_4.010.40_COM_GEN1_1310549093367_fc47717e.zip from another thread and put it on my thumb drive and recovery was able to see it. Now showing kernel version 2.6.36.3 and the above build number.
Can someone confirm that this is correct for stock? Appears root is now gone but still can not see sd card.
uk version
The current us Verdun ends in.13
Am I the only one having this issue?? I went ahead and installed the 3.2 version of HoneyVillain and no instead of seeing unavailable under SD card, it now says Mount SD card. Have a total of three SD cards that use to work but now none do.
What are the correct permission settings for the external SD? Mine is showing -------.
Hello,
i have 2 problems:
1. I formated my 8 GB card under FAT32 and i copied on Andorid. Then i copied some apps on the card to install them, but when i opened Files explorer in android, the files were not there. Then i opened the card again in windows, and they were there again!!! So they are visible in windows and not visible in android
2. I put back my music on the card, it was ok for 30 mins and after that all the new files on the card ware gone! Only the android folder was there!
What to do?
Anybody can help?
Am i the only one with this problem
From what I remember this has been a problem when using Android to move files to your sdcard, are you using Nand or SD?
After you copy something try rebooting and then it should show up. Way back when before Nand we had to do it this way as for some reason Android will not see the new file until you reboot.
I've restarted the phone several times, but still no files...
Are you using a SD or Nand rom?
SD. All i can see on the card from droid file manager are only the droid files.
Update: After moving the files on the phone while in WM, now i can see them in Android also... for now I will update it if android deletes them or something...

Glad you got it sorted out, yeah mounting your sdcard while running an SD Android rom has never been the most reliable. I would definitely suggest doing it in WinMo from now on to avoid any issues
