For all of you developers uploading ROM's, XDA user Stericson just announced on twitter his creation of http://www.droidbin.com/
Its an easy to use, high speed file hosting site you guys may want to check out.
And best of all, its dedicated to Android
Mods, sorry if I posted in the wrong section. I just feel that the developers who are more likely to use this would see it better in this area of the forum.

Will content from http://android.grdlock.net move over? Will we have more ROM fragmentation?

Amen brother. Unless you have an apk of this, and it might help development with android 2(Link to developing Google apps because of sync api commands in maps app? I don't know.) What I'm trying to say is...don't make a new thread if it has NOTHING TO TO WITH DEVELOPMENT. Thanks.
Seriously. DEV or GTFO.
I kind of disagree; I think this is important for the development section:
It could inspire developers to work a way into porting android 2.0 to G1. It may inspire some genius into converting the g1 into a multi OS system that can switch between a GPS NAV and a Phone, in a simple way “switch Rom”. I left it open without a comment because I rather for everyone to use his imagination and transform this into development!!!

We already got a "demo rom" of sorts....it is based off of Android 2,but no Google apps, wifi, or Bluetooth, for obvious reasons.

I’m aware of that and the problems associated with porting 2.0, but I also believe in the XDA development Team. I would like to remind everyone where we have been and where are we now in terms of android, just imagine flashing back to stock RC 28 .
Just a note to OP, any dev that would even conjure doing this would more than likely look @ android.com or other android related sites with news and other articles just like you linked for us, granted you were trying to share what you have learned, it is completely irrelevant to this forum. Gladly take this thread to a "general"disscussion. Besides its still early look @ 2.0 and will be a bit before we see progress, and was hoping this thread meant somone was porting already, yet, to my dismay another off topic discussion that let my hopes fall to the bottomless pit of irony.

Actually its people like you that post immature retorts that makes members not want to be here anymore. Android 2.0 is DEV!
I am starting this thread in hopes of learning more about the epic and how make my own roms and kernels and all storts of goodies my hope is that all the new people like myself can read this thread and learn what they need to know in order to become great developers
So my first question is how do you make your own rom?
(please if you are a new developer stay in this thread with your questions)

If you like the more, in-depth, manual approach to learning. Below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6738713&postcount=1
first of all get a dedicated irc client, they tend to be soo much better then the all in ones.
second i dont know much about development but i am fairly knowledgeable able all around android
when you get an irc client (xchat ftw) there is a sticky with the required info
Damn... This is some nice info. Now I'll never go to bed. Thanks!
If this was 2 weeks ago... you would have never got this, it seems a happiness has come to the Epic Forums. lol
Now if only we could talk noobnl into staying.
First its how you approach things. Coming on here and demanding a Gingerbread port in 15 minutes is just dumb. Asking for resources... Great. I've saved some on my toolbar for firefox. I have an idea, but want to do more research myself before I cook something up. Its not something I'd personally use, but I know a lot of people have asked for it on here.
I have found that a lot of Sites on the internet scan our xda & post only the OP as their own.
I did a simple google search with these words, 'ddjp6 speedmod version' & here is the result - http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=ddjp6+speedmod+version
A example here is - http://www.galaxyroot.com/tag/csc/ . If the links are downloaded by people who are not really aware of many discussions that are going on here, they face serious problems with their phones.
I request all the custom ROM developers to at least put a direct HTML link to your OWN post in the OP.
I have put a direct HTML link of my own post in my OP. At least people browsing sites like galaxy root will have a link back to my ROM.
Hope I am helping.

Hmmm, no lol. If people are stupid enough to install a piece of software onto a phone, or pc for that matter without knowing what theyre doing then it their own fault if something goes wrong.
Like my 10yr old says always make sure you read up on what your about to install, or even uninstall before doing so.
Perhaps a link to common sense would be best? Or better still close this thread that is clogging up the 'development section'

Sometimes intelligent people search Google.
Anyway this was just an observation, A lot of developers including Darkyy have been put a lot of problems because of their ROMs being downloaded from other sites.
PS : Darkyy is a famous guy, I am not. I really don't know how many phones I have neutered by posting my ROM.

Im not sure if there already is one, but I think we need a sticky with all of the kernels and a description of each. I just checked the Dev thread and didnt see anything there, or in the themes or general thread. I thought I saw a Vibrant bible somewhere but I cant seem to find that at the moment either.

I was thinking about putting one together too but kernel-wise there hasn't been to much new other than ICS (Eugene's...) and 99problemz. Be nice to have them all in one place but not much development on many.

Lol. I was actually thinking of perhaps making this Kernel Sticky. Today would be good day to start too as I have a good amount of free time. Something else I've been thinking of is making a new version of the Vibrant Bible that could have a more detailed kernel section... Since the other two Bibles are both not maintained and even became unstickied. But I don't know. What do you think? Should I look into making a newer Vibrant Bible or a Kernel Sticky?

Yes this is a great idea, let me know if you need help. Especially with the bible there are probably 20+ ROMS that are not even on that bible, maybe you can list the issues wth each particular ROM in the bible as well, this would help direct NOOBS even better!
Sounds good. However, before I begin to put it together I feel it would only be the right thing to contact the original Vibrant Bible creator and ask permission to develop a new, more detailed Bible, with an updated list of kernels and roms.
I think thats a great idea as well, maybe you could just type something up and submit it him//her and see if they want to add it to the bible?
Why don't you guys look over the Wiki and update that instead. That way we are not at the mercy of the moderators to make things sticky. And we can update it as we go. I tried keeping it up a while back but it is a daunting task without the support of the developers to help keep their part updated.

Agreed. Extremely arrogant move.
It has more to do with all the whiny - no skill devs who constantly complain about him not releasing the sources to his kernel ...probably because they cant accomplish the same on there own.
This is the on going theme here with many roms and many highly skilled devs
You see it in any dev section where the devs get reported on for stealing work even though they are the ones who created it. Its a wonder some devs even keep there work public anymore , cause it is constantly happening

11. Don’t post with the intention of selling something.
Don’t use XDA to advertise your product or service. Proprietors of for-pay products or services, may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or a free version of their product for XDA users and offer support, but not to post with the intention of selling. This includes promoting sites similar/substantially similar to XDA-Developers.com.

Pro-Tip #1 – Sell in the correct area
If you have a paid app that you are advertising on xda-developers, it must be posted in the Paid Software Announcement and Discussion section, which has a few guidelines that need to be followed before posting. To save you some reading, you must be a member in good standing with some good history behind you on the site. This way, we ensure that people are not here solely to sell stuff.

Pro-Tip #3 – Link =| Spam
Be mindful of the amount of advertising you do with your paid work. Again, you can link from within the thread of your free version. However, you cannot include direct links to your paid apps in your signature, profile, or anywhere else. You can, however, put links to your free app threads in the aforementioned places, which already contain links to the paid counterparts. Simply put, you must first present your free app before you direct others to your paid work.
