Not to say he's above the other modders, but I've been a Cyanogen fan since the old days of my G1, so I'm very excited to hear this.

I think it's more that he's the most well known ROM generator for android since the early days and, to my knowledge, on the front of the curve of new things as well (due to his own skills and also, I believe, due to his fame...people who figure new things out will likely report it to him to get it integrated into his ROMs right away too).
This is good news.
I'm still running a stock ROM. I'm waiting for something big to come out before I flash a new one.

Yea we don't even have kernel source yet
I wonder why HTC is being such a ***** with the kernel source. They were fairly quick to release them for their other devices.

Sense in CM6?
Okay, this is a BURNING question in my brain, someone please answer it.
When CM6 is released for the Evo, will sense be included?
because i've started to really despise sense since i've gotten the Evo, and i really hope CM6 looks and performs exactly the same on the Evo as it does the Nexus.
FYI cyanogen got an Evo yesterday for 300 bucks from someone.
Epic.
Can't wait.

Just for clarifications sake and since I've been around since the G1, Cyanogen was not the first, that title belongs to JesusFreke. Haykuro was the first to bring SenseUI to the G1. Cyan fame-dom came after they took their, either quiet or loud exit. All 3 brought their A game and advanced the rooting community to where it is today.
So anyway...this is definitely good news. I've gotten my EVO in the last couple of days and have been reluctant to root. I'm not the trusting type when it comes to my phone so seeing Cyanogen working on this device makes me much happier. I know with CM roms there will be less forcecloses and MOAR WIN.
I'm excited about this one. The EVO is basically my first Android phone (I had a backflip for a while, but there isn't even a root it) so I haven't used cyanogen in the past, but his reputation is good, and I think his roms are the kind I am looking for. If I understand they are very close to stock AOSP, with some performance tweaks, but with a very high focus on stability, and sometimes more stable than the OEM releases.
I love some of the ROMs we have currently, but it seems like many of the devs value features and speed tweaks over stability.
cyanogen is great, I used his Roms on the Droid and loved them. Can't wait for the Evo release.
Sorry to say but, at this point (unless someone pulls a miracle), it looks like the vibrant wont make the CM 6.1 release

@wesgarner @TheDudesAndroid @cyanogen @koush should be removed
the link in wes's tweet says
Change I36172fd3: vibrant: Temporarily remove from CM manifest
vibrant: Temporarily remove from CM manifest
Reasons:
1. It doesn't compile - this can be fixed, though
2. It doesn't work... - currently the kernel inside the repo doesn't work plus the build system is not set up to flash the kernel
3. The Vibrant repo is about 2mths old
4. The Vibrant repo contains proprietary. On my fork, I have changed everything over to use extract-files, removed proprietary from all commits using filter-branch
We can refork my repo for the Vibrant, but at the same time - it still isn't ready, so mostly having it on the CM repos for 6.1 RC's this weekend is pretty pointless considering where we are in getting CM6 for the Vibrant
My manifest (git://github.com/wesgarner/android.git) is setup for the current Galaxy S repos (aka my Vibrant repo and noobnl's Epic repo), but this is still such a WIP that keeping it on CM repos really just confuses people about the current status and makes it seem like it's ready when it isn't

i'm fine with that. bionix is honestly better than cm was on my g1, and those cm guys are a bunch of assholes. if (mostly) one guy can build a rom from scratch, i don't understand how a whole team can't figure it out.
You cant expect one guy to make a rom for all android devices. If it doesnt work. O well. I mean there are other roms out there for those wanting to mess with there phones. Bionix is one. And many more to come to the vibrants way. You ppl keep asking these devs who have other lives outside xda. And then get pissed when theres no special rom for ur phone. C'mon now.

the donations were made to wes/scepterr... that has nothing to do with CM. true they are members of the CM team, but all they ever said was that they had plans to port CM6... that doesn't mean they have to, and anyone who decided to donate should have realized that a PLAN does not equal a promise.
if it fails, well crap. if they come back to it later and it works, hooray! until then, your donations belong to whoever you donated to. because that's how donations work.

Wow.... Are you serious? d
First you're comparing your Vibrant to a G1, of course it will be better! Even with a stock Vibrant.
Second, the CM guys or any dev for this matter, who gives their free time to make ROMs and MODs for peasants like you and I who cant do it ourselves, are assholes?! How?!
Third, yes it only takes one talented dev to build a ROM from scratch, but without the SOURCE they have no base to work on. It really isnt easy to make a ROM from scratch, and as far as I know only a few devs have successfully done so. Most of them base it on another dev's work or samsung itself...

Haha.... You think that the bionix ROM came from scratch??? He took eugenes base from the Ftwiz ROM. He even says it in the credits. Not trying to sell the ROM or development short, because it is a great ROM.
All the devs that are tied to the vibrant are trying to reverse engineer the code to get the 2.2 source which samsung has not released. Building 2.2 with out the source code is like building a sky scrapper from the top to the bottom, everything will crash. Where as 2.1 with source is building from ground up, you start from a solid foundation, then work your way up...
Wes also stated to anyone who wanted there money back, they can email him for a refund.
Just give it time. The source for the i9000 froyo was just released; it will come eventually, but development is going to lag behind that for the Nexus One, Dinc, etc. Just be glad we're getting some kind of CM; think of all the other phones that aren't even on the list.

Very true!
after reading their various tweets regarding them passing the buck on vibrant development, yes, they're assholes. it was clearly a joke to them because they know it's a huge hassle, so they should have just said it was probably never going to happen. i'm very grateful for the handful of devs that have actually stepped up and made this phone into what it should have been out of the box. it was clear that the cm team never cared in the first place.

Also agree. Let TSM get their hands on it first
After running stock for a few days (during that whole ZOMG my 3G is gone fiasco) I was about ready to throw it out the window.
After a whole days worth of prepubescent tantrums. I don't want to touch this. I think I'd rather rock Adryn's froyo SC than a P3 GB leak. Haha.
If owners were going to release anyways then i'm sure its all about where the credit goes. That's why P3 released IMO. I am glad, however, that he chose the side of advancing the android os rather than holding grudges.
I don't flash any ROM anymore that isn't deodexed (theme-able), debloated (though I do like the TW video player and Media Hub), and de-Binged (though I still find Bing to be useful, that doesn't mean I want it built into my ROM). Therefore, like some of you have already said, I will wait until it's released as a custom ROM by Nitro, TSM, or one of the other devs who have worked on the Fascinate for more than a week or two.
[EDIT]: Oh, yeah, forgot to mention - I am also going to wait for a voodoo kernel (actually I forgot that this would install a new kernel). That looks to be a much longer wait than for someone to de-B it (deodex, debloat, de-Bing) it, since, as I understand, no kernel source has been leaked. It took a couple of months, as I recall, after the DL30 leak, for a Froyo voodoo kernel to be released. That was because no kernel source had been leaked, only the functional ROM build. The voodoo kernel was based on the official ED01 release after Samsung posted the kernel source.
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
Save yourselves the trouble and do not flash until there is a less buggy and de binged version. At the very least we know that there is a Fully Functional GB rom on Verizon for the Fascinate.
I am very surprised. I didn't think samsung would develop gingerbread this fast. They took almost a year to put out froyo then 2 months later we have gb.

EC09 is the build number, meaning most likely that a second dev team was working on GB while froyo was being finished up.

Actually, this is an old engineering build. I heard about it a while back, just never got to see it.
I wonder how long till we get an OTA of Gingerbread?
I would imagine it will be a little while. Verizon is notorious for continually pushing things back, and I don't see why this OTA would be any different.
What exactly is so great about gingerbread?

Adobe announced that they have one more build release to add support for 4.0, but that will be it (aside from standard bug and security fixes I suppose).

Who knows if this will change in the future, but if any Android release in the future breaks this compatibility that might be it for Flash on mobile devices altogether.

It's actually a huge detail. I for one will be happy just to see ICS, but ICS will pale in comparison to CM9.
Why wouldn't it be a cm build? The only reason we don't have one right now was because of the source not being released for honeycomb and cm doesn't downgrade devices. Shoot, cyanogen now works for Samsung, so they'd have a business incentive to get ics on the gt10.1 fast (albiet unofficially) considering it's their flagship tablet.

At least you were able to cancel and get something quick. I got the 32gb Alum and I always planned on getting the Alum version. The black is too scratch prone for my liking and the white, well white is boring since every phone manufacture does it.
I'm "happy" with the 6p, but going from the ultra snappy Nexus 6 to this, pretty snappy device is a bit of an adjustment. The size difference isn't a big issue, but the overall feel is quite different in the 6p. That, and the fact I can't use my plethora of micro USB chargers floating around my house.
I'm curious to see where the next Nexus goes in terms of build, I'm hoping for glass personally.

Well I knew @DespairFactor and @flar2 were working on kernels, and I knew you were working on a ROM, so I was curious who else was out there. I miss the days of Carbon on the Nexus 5, not sure why the Nexus 6 wasn't really supported.
Overall, I think Chroma, Cataclysm and Carbon were the most stable of the ROM's out there. Not sure why they all started with "C", though.

Well, to be fair, a custom kernel is often a piece of the custom ROM, so it makes sense to think about kernel developers who support ROM development. I ran Chroma as my daily on N6, so looking forward to seeing Chroma on the 6P once everything is up and running.
Speaking of kernel developers, I believe Franco also got a N6P.
Just got my 6p and had a look at the ROM development section... There's not much out there in terms of custom roms yet so is it worth trying a custom rom at this stage or stick with stock?
Also, does wugfresh work for 6p for rooting?

That depends, some ROMs (incl. mines on N4/N5) ship with stock Google kernel. For the N6, it used Franco at first and then HellsCore.
I'll probably stick to Google kernel for the time being with some minor tweaks (KCAL, vibration control and maybe some other things).
