Just a quick note to say that http://rootmydroid.co.uk is in development now, with the aim to be n00b friendly guides (Like www.roothtchero.co.uk) and ROM news.
The Hero guide has been successfully ported over, and I would like your feedback on the site. What should I do? What sould I not do?
The other thing that makes the site special is the Help section. Users can get live support from me or send me an email. This way we can help lots of n00bs to root!
If you are intrested in helping out on the live support channel, please PM me.
Thanks very much for all your support & helping me to get www.roothtchero.co.uk through the 1,000 hits a day barrier.
Well done - clear and simple.
You talk about roms at th begining are you going to put the link of the most stable roms 2.1 and 2.2 as well?

I could put a post with a poll on for each device, so people can vote for the best roms.

Which ones are fast and stable for exemple then the link to it.
And also, the advancement od the 2.2 on Hero. Because i think that's wat people waiting for now...They all don't want to install it because its not fully working yet...but they want to know when it will

Also, if anyone is interested in writing a guide then please pm me and I will add you as a collaborator.

EDIT: It seems to be a problem with the advertising, I've just implemented it. Give it a few hours to settle.
If it's not working by 21:30 GMT I will disable it.
Not working for me at 23:08 using Win7 and Firefox 3.6.6 but works fine using Internet Explorer.
Ewww! I just clicked on the Root your Desire page just for a click about the site
http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desire/howto-root-your-htc-desire/
I REALLY don't like that invasive pull page advertisement, good luck in making a few bob from the site but that is bad....
Maybe Firefox Adblock plus is the cause, it knows we don't want ads so is showing a blank page instead of the invasive full screen ad.
I think the page is loading okay but a split second later the ad takes over so all we see in FF is a blank screen

s**t I've just checked and the advertising company was hiding 'full page ads' under the more tab. I will remove it tomorrow.
The last thing I want to do is annoy you guys. I would never put so much advertising on, that's why I don't like theunlockr.com
I suppose this is why we have beta testing...
Ads now successfuly disabled. Good to know the android browser can cope with WordPress emergencies!
Thats better.
Bit late now so I will have a click around another time.
Good work though from what I can see

Hello, just for information purposes only, im currently working on porting WM6 to the iphone device, its proving tricky and is highly unusable, but i don't think its impossible at this stage of development, ive applied for a sourceforge page to show the project status and will keep you informed.
anyone willing to help please pm me. only serious developers though, thankyou
John
update
Will post sourceforge link as soon as its ironed out but until then...
http://www.wrightsbytes.com/home.php
its unfinished.
Sounds interessting,
Will it need a ROM Replacement or it is a Linux Loader like HaReT?
Without the possibility of using an stylus with the iPhone will prove very useless to have WinMo on it.
rom based
it will be rom based but use a bootloader command to initiate boot. keeping iphone os intact.... as for stylus,, wm6.1 was developed to help eliminate stylus (not only reason) but it helps. i will also develop a panel based system like the xperia x1 to allow ease of use.
wow how far are you? if this gets finished i will buy an iphone and run windows mobile on it.
Seeing this running would make me laugh so loud ! This could mean that the iPhone could get, one day, a real app store with the XDA community behind
How far are you in the Bootloader management ?
This will be interesting WM 6.1 or 6.5 running at iPhone, everyone wait for this. Problem is booting different os, because it's not same with htc devices.

Well, I do wish you the best of luck! And as far as the video, this actually has its own thread and it was deemed by the whole community (and possibly the world) to be fake, so please let's not bring up the subject anymore...
I've been a long-time user of the forum and I remember that back in the days OP had originated a much talked-about hoax with a WM5 for Magician. Keeping this in mind, methinks this thread is a huge load of BS, and OP is full of it. I'll shut up now, before I say something that I will regret later...

fair point, but lets keep in mind the differnce between an excited mistake and a hoax... a very thin line but still a massive differnce so please save the slander as for the project im not stating what im making exists im saying im developing it and request help from others if you follow the links etc.. help is required. hardly possible to hoax a development with a community behind ur back. prehaps trust will be earnt.

I didn't undercut anybody. I spoke directly to Hector and obtained his permission to post this up before posting it.
On a side note, I felt my post would be easier for other's to read and use, since Hector had only posted a paragraph and a link to zenulator's original Hero ROM thread. He's, since then, copied info from zenulator's post and fixed his post up.

Is there any way you can get rid of the background image on the icons? To be honest they look like the xPhone and takes away from the Sense UI, which is crisp and clean.
when uploading roms, i suggest using multiupload..
rs gives users a maximum of 10 downloads before killing the link..

Just tried your Rev2 and I like it! It's quick and I haven't found a problem yet. Will bt it to my car radio on the way home. The icons are different than I am used to but they are growing on me...sort of Ipod Touchish. Good job!
It appears as though your extra downloads aren't signed...at least that is the message I got when I tried to flash.
but i need it bassed on something or not if u dont want it
It depends on weather its a proper Rom or if its just filepushing like your 'Cronos LightSpeed Supper Rom'
and weather you've learnt to spell...
On a more serious note, anyone can use WinZIP, we don't need someone to spam the forums doing it for us.
Please don't see this as anything against you, its just advice.

Weather? That's whether I think
"and weather you've learnt to spell..."
I laughed.
And don't ask us if you want a ROM. Just develop, ask for help, improve it before it's launched (do this sequence 3 or 4 times), then release, and be flooded with bugs.
That's how it works.
Also, if someone wants to be my tutor, I'd be very glad.
I'm thinking of starting ROM developing aswell. I don't know what to read first.
And please, don't post cyanogen sticky post link here. I've read it, but it has too much information and I don't know where to start.

Try asking Feeyo and elemag for help. They are very open to give information.
Feeyo in particularly is learning me a lot about how I can create an rom for myself from AOSP. Those 2 are not greedy nor being secretly about how they do things.
Cant say that from that other Team.
I'm sorry but I've one question in my mind and I cant answer for it by my self: why someone buy a "sense/rosie" phone if he want a plain (vanilla) rom? Why that person doesn't buy a N1??

Well, price, I guess. And availability. The N1 wasn't available in my country, unless for an extremely unreasonable price.
Also, I think the N1 is not as sexy as the hero, or the desire...
Wow - there's some 'bad-mood' users around here, ey? We all start somewhere, so give the guy a little slack.
Anyway, if you want my honest opinion, you will struggle in the Vanilla ROM world on these forums. VanillaEclair, aHero, EzHero, CyanogenMod....there are more then enough really good Vanilla ROM's. On the other hand, Cronos, Villain, ChocolateEclair, Kimera....there are also more then enough great Sense ROM's too. It's a tough area to enter into as there is a lot of competition, and I'm sure many users can agree that we have seen some really detrimental side effects of the competition.
So, back to my honest opinion - I don't think anybody wants another vanilla ROM, nor another Sense ROM, unless you have something great to bring to the party, in which case I suggest rather make a public thread with your 'great thing' so that it can be implemented into existing ROM's. At the same time, this is a developement forum, and new developements are obviously always welcome. So, if you have the patience (for bug reports and updates) and decency (to work with the other developers), by all means, bring out a new ROM. I for one will be happy to test and report.
Just my 2c.
Mr P.
what I would suggest is you make the rom that YOU want to use. not pure vanilla, not pure stock sense, but the features you want most, including the (freely distributable) apps you want to include in the rom.
then you can always post it here in case others like it too.
I'd like to see a rom that doesn't include the standard apps but instead includes preinstalled the best free alternative calendar, widgets, launcher(pro...), alternative gallery, alternative camera, music player, app organizer, and so on.
something that is out of the box really really cool and setup for instant use (the way sense phones are setup from the factory, but using non-sense apps maybe).
that would be worth seeing here. it's been done but recently most popular roms are variations of the same thing and the competition is more about stability, performance, and working hardware. if you can base yours upon an already stable, fast and fully working hero rom (with permission from the authors), then customizing it and repackaging it could be really cool.

Sounds good to me, you can pop my info in there if ya want, but is there any pre-reqs? (like I am a kitchen user, and modder, not really a dev) but my rom does cater to 'special' needs I suppose, and anyone can use what I got.
SouthPaw!1.5-Final-(for Cellular South users): http://www.mediafire.com/?7ro6qczcoqcxtip
Also just fyi if it saves any time you can take a peek @ my thread in the 2nd post I have compiled a favorable amount of how-to's for my users since most on my carrier are just now getting into the root/rom scene: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731404 and I don't mind if you need to copy/paste anything.
Lovin' the fun stuff videos btw.
And another suggestion is if you would see if the modders/themers would let you grace your pages with their stuff as well.
Was just checking the site, pretty sweet man, very well organized. My two cents of what to add (and this is just anything I could think of):
1) Blue Echo & Red Dawn (by Papa Smurf)
2) cSrOm (by crunchybutternut)
3) Themes section for both 2.1 and 2.2 (in my experience, themes are the hardest to find)
4) Alternative bootscreens for both 2.1 and 2.2
5) Apps that aren't on the Market anymore (e.g., Fancy Widget, Skype Beta, etc.)
Not sure if all of those are even possible, but that's all I got right now. Keep up the great work man.

Ok, i added Blue Echo, Red Dawn, and cSrOm. Themes are started but are going to take some time and a lot of work before it is anything respectable. I am not enitirely sure how i feel about posting apps, don't want to have any sort of legel battles over it. I will look at boot screens once i get done with the themes section.

I am toying with the idea of allowing devs to upload their roms to the site themselves, anybody have any thoughts on the subject?

why dont we just call it the Heroic?
Looks like the thread got moved, going to push over more themes today. Still would like to hear from some devs. Like who would want to be able to upload their own stuff to the site.
Redesigned the site, CM 6.0 RC1 is up along with the latest nightlies. Also the uncapped kernel for CM.
What would it take to get a working windows phone 7 rom onto this device? I don't know anything about WP7 dev, but have been dying to try it and this phone is more than capable of handling the load, it's just a matter of if it would jive and such.
Any thoughts comments, etc?
If you truly want the w7 feel you should use desktop Visualizer I think... go to the themes section they have a guide on how to theme your android to something VERY similar... as far as actually porting a rom... think that's prolly a little too much coding and work considering if someone wanted it that bad they likely would have just bought it as such...
