Might it be worth posting this either in the cronos 2.0 thread in the dev sub-forum or even in the cronos forums themselves;

Blank SMS from "Δ@" ?!?

I've recently received two blank texts, the author of which is simply "Δ@", following which I promptly restarted my blackstone.
this isnt the first time i've received such a text. A little concerned, since I
read that receiving a blank text from dodgy places means someone might be
trying to hack into your phone.
Has anyone ever received similar texts before? Any advice / help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I got it a while back, but if I'm not mistaken, it was the iPhone which was vulnerable to this SMS attack.

Have you checked your Voicemail, if I remember correctly, I had this and it is your Voicemail. I think the way the voicemail icon is activated on phones is via the SMS protocol, and your phone should not show you an SMS message like that, but intercept it and show you your voicemail icon.
If you have a voicemail, read and delete it and you will probably get another text message, which is similar, to instruct the phone to delete the voicemail icon, again you shouldn't see this normally.
I am sure there is a patch to sort this out, but I haven't had any problems like this for ages, so maybe update to a newer ROM and see if it goes away.
Jason
Thanks Jason
I'll look out for voicemail in the future i think i did have some at the time.
However, I keep getting told I have voicemail waiting to be read when I don't actually have any, so its a little difficult (and annoying) determining whether I actually have voicemail or not.
As for my ROM, im using NRGZ28's latest ROM released in late December :s
Maybe its an Orange thing?

If I recall I was on Orange in the UK at the time, so I am not sure if different networks use different ways of forcing the icon to appear, and your phone does not support it. I would of thought it was something to do with the software, so the ROM is likely to be the problem, but I dont know for sure...
As I moved network, I cannot give any definites on whether my ROM would work for you either... You have not indicated your country, maybe if you advise, another person may be able to give you some assistance against that particular ROM.
Jason
I am on orange UK
I have a HTC Tytn with 6.5 (23060)
The Tytn gets the SMS strange symbols when I get Voice message
My HTC HD phone on Orange has Miri 6.5 (21876) V13
Voice messge icon works OK on this
so I would think it maybe win 6.5.3 / Orange problem
You should try calling your phone and leaving a voice message. Orange have a strange issue that I've helped people on xda with before in that if you hang up to soon after deleting voicemail the voicemail icon doesn't disappear. It could be that your phone isn't translating the sms that's sent to display the voicemail icon properly and the sms keeps being sent to you cos Orange thinks you've still got one.
1. Call yourself and leave a voicemail
2. Call you voicemail from your phone and listen to the message
3. Delete the message (option 3 I think) but wait about 5 seconds before hanging up
If you then stop recieving the sms and you're no longer told you got voicemail then great.
4. Leave yourself another message and see if you get the proper icon or a strange text
If you get the strange text then you'll need to do some research into it. I used to get it when I had a Prophet on Orange so take a look in that forum as there was a fix for it.

MMS problems on Vodafone UK

Would any other members who are on Vodafone UK please let me know if they can send MMS messages. I have tried both contract and pay as you go sims, I can receive MMS messages but cannot send them. I would be grateful for any information to resolve this problem.

I wonder if this is related to my issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618218
According to this (I can't verify if it's out of date or not), Vodafone's MMS limit is 100k. If you want, you can try using Handcent Sms from the market, which severely reduces the file size (therefore the resolution and quality of the picture) before sending out an MMS. I'm curious to see if you're having the same issue as me. If you do, the stock messaging program has a pretty huge flaw in it which needs to be addressed.
Tell me how it goes.

Hmmm I was really hoping that would be the issue
I tried to do some research, and it seemed like some Hero users were having the same issue as you. See if this helps you at all: http://androidforums.com/htc-hero/7776-mms-vodafone.html
The key would be this quote:
"All Vodafone Numbers MMS is deactivated At network level by default , you need to Ring customer services up on 191 Free of charge and ask them to Activate it"
I'm surprised they do it that way - it always used to be that the first MMS you sent activated your account automatically.

I think I had been down this way before but rang Customer Services again just to make sure. The guy at Vodafone first asked for my number which he checked and said that it was already activated for mms and internet, he then asked for make and model of phone, this is the good bit, he has never heard of this phone and it is not on their database so no support. I told him that they would be supporting this phone in the very near future, he said that if that is true I should just wait until that happens and ring back then.
What is it that makes it so difficult to send a flippin picture message

tell him you have a Vodafone Magic ... its a supported Android phone on Vodafone and the menus are identical so if he wants to talk you through setting anything up then no problem.
If he has to set anything network side to work on Voda then no problem either

LED lamp with mail

hello all
can someone help me please.
I also did light LED for the mail does not work for me.
I have adapted to register but no.
sms etc. work fine except email.
one solution?
Thanks.
Yep; from reading this and various other forums, it seems this doesn't work on ANYONE'S HD2. HTC Support claims it works just fine for them though, and that they've had no complaints (except mine). Obviously this is a software issue, since the LED fires for other notifications, so it'd be an easy software fix.
Suggestion: drop an email to HTC describing this (and other) problem. http://www.htc.com/europe/CS_Mail.aspx
I have almost all the software from xda tried.
Resultaad same ..
Could the problem lie with the Radio Rom? !
Someone experience??

...and mine too ;-)
Brief mini-rant (and sneaky opportunity to bump this up):
I'm as pissed as anyone about the SMS problem; it's a basic function of a phone that oughta work out of the box as expected even on the cheapest phone available. That it doesn't work on this pricey gizmo, and HTC have yet to fix it is shocking.
From reading these threads though, I see that folks have thousands of SMS's on their phones. Wow. On most plans, SMS's cost money to send. Why would anyone choose an SMS when an email would serve the same purpose? I read somewhere on the net that per byte it's cheaper to send / receive data from the Hubble telescope than to send an SMS.
My point: I'm surprised there's not more outrage about the non-working 'new email' notification LED.
response from HTC re LED Notification not working
I dropped an email to HTC describing the Email LED problem and their initial response was, have i ticked the box in settings .
Then they said
"the only option we can take is to escalate this case for you and get the R&D department to take a look and get a fix for this.
if i can take some details from the device i can forward this case on to be looked at:
Serial number,
IMEI number.
ROM version, 1.48.405.2 (71294) WWE
Radio version 2.05.51.05_2"

Can you let us know if they come with a solution ..??
I've been swapping emails with the developer of PhoneAlarm; he's sent me a beta version that actually makes the email LED work! He says the beta should be up on his site in the next day or so. YAAAAAAY!
http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html Since this guy's the only person who's taken the trouble to look into this, I strongly encourage all to *purchase* this nice piece of software.

Will do, hopefully they dont take to long to work it out.
Have more people with this problem or are we alone??
Nope; this is faulty on ALL HD2s as far as I know, and also not fixed on the latest ROM 1.66.
But, the latest version of PhoneAlarm fixes this problem! I strongly encourage folks to try / purchase this great piece of software! http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html
That means HTC sense to disable switching and Phone Alarm?
I am having same problem and headache to think how is the solution. Then i eat panadol.
I just fired off an email to HTC about this. It's a bit frustrating that there is an option for it but it doesn't work. How embarrassing for them to have such a blatant bug. It can't hurt to let them know that lots of folks are suffering from this.
Here is the response I got from HTC today
New Response From [ Richard (UK - Ireland Support (Tech)) ]

I can't believe they are just being so blind about this problem. It is on every handset. Why don't they just test it on their own?
Hardware fault. WTF?
Yep: the HTC guy I swapped emails with swore up & down that his email LED worked just fine.
finally
People good news, Uncle Bear is right.
Thanks to him I now also working led to mail, I could not believe my eyes when I saw a green light.
So phone alarm beta version is a nice solution.
Least until HTC comes with a solution. (As can be seen a long time)
After the last email they sent me I sent them this back

This is not a hardware issue. If it is, then it is a problem with every HD2 handset out there. Lots of other HD2 owners have this exact problem also. I am a member of the XDA forum and it does not work for everyone. As I stated before, the LED works for other notifications, like SMS or alarm, but not the email. This is a problem with Sense or Windows I think. You should look into it more. I have hard reset the device many times and this specific feature has never worked.

I can only assume they meant to say "isn't fixing" and not "is fixing". Not only are they fobbing me off, they can't even be arsed to type (or copy and paste) an email correctly.
I just got pretty much the same response from Joe UK Tech support. He said a Hard reset would fix it but if it doesnt he will make sure that any info he gets from the R&D department, he will get back to my straight away. (Not going to hold my breath)
In the meantime, i have started using PhoneAlarm and now the LED does flash for new emails but there are so many notification setting/changes needed within PhoneAlarm its a hassle.
Another response from HTC
I sent them
I an only assume you meant to say "isn't fixing" and not "is fixing" in your previous response? Can you please confirm that your HD2 has the email notification working. That is, when a new email arrives, the LED will flash for the time that is set in the settings? This is very strange, there are hundreds of people just like me on the XDA forums that are having this exact same problem. Are you saying that all their handsets are defective too and need to be replaced? This functionality has not worked on ROM's 1. 43, 1.48 or 1.66. It does work for the other notifications like SMS or missed call, which strongly points to a software bug. Almost 100% sure it's not a hardware fault. I really don't want to send my phone as I can't be without it for weeks.

Dear customer, You have the option to send this device to be repair or wait untill the rom update to fix this software issue. So I replied with
Here you contradict yourself. You say that I can send my phone in for "Repair" but also that there is no software fix for this. Doesn't that mean that there is also no way that you can fix the problem. What would you do to "Fix" this? Again I will ask you. Does your HD2 have a working LED for email notification? Or is it a fault with the software? I know the LED works for SMS, missed calls etc but does it work for emails?

Why won't they just give a straight answer and accept there is a problem at least. What the hell would they do with it if I sent it in anyways?

Retrieve missed MMS?

If I missed some MMS message because my phone was off or there was an issue with them is there a way to recover or view them?

I believe after a routine startup sync, you should recieve an alert. I get all my voicemails amd missed texts...not too sure I helped, but im puuuurdy sure that unless something is wrong, you should recieve anything missed upon reboot.
Could a senior confirm?
Well this is a little different I was testing a ROM when I was supposed to get a few messages, I didn't, now I'm running DamageControl with the MMS fix but I don't know if I can get these messages now.
If you're on Sprint, you can see all your sent and received MMS messages online. I'd post the link, but this is my first post. Google Sprint PictureMail.

[Q] SMS Problem - Not Receiving Incoming Texts

Hi all,
I was hoping that maybe some of you can help me with my problem. It seems that I'm not receiving my incoming SMS. I've contacted my carrier (DU in UAE) and dowlaoded the settings etc. and everything seems to be in order on that front.
Please note that after testing with my contacts, I will on occasion, and this is very rare, o receive an SMS.
I'm running Cleanex Uniq Maci 4.10 WWE

Hello
What setting do you have for the SMS under advanced network selection?
I solved all mine by changing it to use GSM Only not GSM Preferred and then a soft-restart. Mine were taking days up until this point.
If you check back a few pages in the CleanEx ROM thread there's quite a few of us who've not been receiving SMS'. I plan to download + flash the new version as soon as I can find the time and hopefully that will fix it.
