SPB shell problem with HTC Touch HD - Windows Mobile

Hi all,
Just bought a preowned HTC Touch HD. It is loaded with XannyTech Rom Leo 3.1 when I bought it. The Home page looks great but very slow so I was looking around for a better UI and then came across with Spb Shell.
I downloaded and installed Trial version of SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.5 from their website. Installation went smoothly without any problem and I have the SPB shell Home up and running.
There are few issues that I notice though :
1. I can turn off the screen or sleep the device ONCE only (using power button or other apps), after I wake the device, I won't be able to turn it off again. I need to soft reset the device then the power button will work again, but only ONCE again.
2. I can't type using the default HTC keyboard. There are 2 places I tried so far that don't work : entering my city for weather and registering spb. The keyboard is on the screen but nothing appears in the white box when I type it.
3. Is there a way to shut down spb shell temporarily without uninstalling it ?
I searched around this forum and google it but it seems no one else have this issue. I really like this spb because the UI is really smooth and light.
Could someone help me with this ? or perhaps there is another UI similar like Spb shell out there ?
Thanks in advance,

Problem sorted. I uninstalled CHT and everything works fine now.

HI there,
I'm also using spb mobile shell V2.1.1 on my ipaq 612c and have the same problem, initially i thought it was a device specific problem but after long search in google,i came across SPB forum site and it seems this is a common problem for v2.1 and they are aware of it.SPB will come out with an update to fix this issue.
Another annoying issue for me is that, the "OK" key on the hard keypad is not really working properly.when i use the key to close programs,it does not really close the programs and the programs are still running in the background. The OK key on the left side of the device works fine.Any solution to fix this "OK" key on the keypad?
Thanks
hi Iznee,
Yeah i found out the same, but the good news is that SPB shell has just released version 2.12
I've just installed it and the backlight works great!
I just uninstalled the old verion then installed the new one, and it accepted my old registration.
The OK key (if you tap onthe screen, press the side button ot press the keppad button does the same for me, always minimises the current window. What i did was install a small app called "magic button" that makes the "OK" button an exit button, and closes the windows.
This is a fault in all WM devices. The are a lot of custom sofware that will do the same as magic button, but magic button is free.

SPB Shell on HD

Hi Good Peoples,
Is anyone working on modified menus for SBP Shell so that they will work on the HD?
I was using something that looked like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2026760&postcount=433 on my Touch Diamond and would like something similar for my HD.
Install Spb Shell 2.1.3 an use this skinning programm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424933
Many thanks. I will give it a go.
SPB Shell 2.1.3 works fine.
Been using it since it was released.

Spb have just released an UPDATED version of Mobile Shell - this has the issue of drop-down menus fixed.
They cannot give a date when other programmes such as Diary will be fixed, but claim it is a straightforward fix that will be addressed in the next update for each module.
That skinning program (a few posts above) is brilliant and just what the doctor ordered.
Hello !
I am working woth the actual newest build and it is working fine on the HD.
It has all necessary options and gives the HD the final touch.
It is worth the money. There is also no need to get extra themes - the installed one is great.
I can recommend to use the new SBP keyboard, too.
Althoug the HTC keyboard is very good, the SBP one is better and has also a rumble feedback when touching a key !

does SPB keyboard have the left/right and up/down navigation buttons that appear on the bottom of the HTC keyboards?
I have tried SPB pocket plus. It's a nice program, but it has a problem with drop down menues too
When editing or customizing the tabs (for eg. tab Home), the "Categories" drop down menu doesn't show other possibilities like Programs,... It shows just Indicators.
Hello
no it does not have the cursor like buttoms - up down right or left
sorry
Is it possible to edit registry to launch iContact & Calendar Touch from default key presses rather than use soft keys or direct icons eg press contacts and iContact is launched.
Thanks

spb 2.x over spb panel??

Hi there, I was wondering if there are pros or cons of installing spb 2.x over the panel that is on the x1...?? are they the same or are there differences in the performance... affect the phone in any way for either... thanks for any thoughts...
I had spb on my last phone but love the panel so I didn't install it. If you would rather use the today screen then get the SPB 2.X, but if you like using the spb panel like I do then stick with that. SPB 2.X offers more custimzation, but everything in the panel just works for me (like I don't have to add programs/games/etc. they just show up in the right places).
I prefer SPB 2.X because its more easily customizable and the most recent spb shell has some great new features over the older one. OF course i use neither lol. I use TFL3D.
I tried SPB 2.x but didn't like that when you press end or go to the today screen, you're still stuck with the Windows Today Screen and have to then open up the SPB screen. There's a hack to semi fix it, but it still flashes the today screen for a second before switching over.
I don't know this too. I think my phone is a little bit slow down after installing this.

Yea there is a cab that i used on my tilt called spbwatcher. If anyone needs it i can post it in this thread. Just let me know
I use SPB (the not-panel version) too. I just like the idea of having SPB Shell and still being able to use all the great Today plugins there are.
Works like a charm, although it automatically uninstalls SPB Panel. (I don't ever use the panels)
Differences:
- The looks are a bit different, and I think the not-panel version has a few options more. It installs a few direct shortcuts like "[Soft Reset]", "[My Menu]" as actual program shortcuts (you can use these from anywhere).
- Adds a few options when to use Windows today and when to use SPB today
- Adds a today screen button assigner for WinMo.
Thanks for the replies... I might give it a whirl and Bxsteez, yes please can you post that cab... I am loving my xperiance though... now that I have nearly got it completely how I want it I guess its time to reflash the ROM...

Spb Mobile Shell 3.5 battery life goood

Hi, I had the SBP Shell 3.5 for a while (as did 3.0) but finally removed it due to the appaling battery life. Again fed up with Touchflo (I have T-Mob Compact IV) I decided to install the Shell back on... & guess what? The battery issue is gone! It lasts now roughly about the same as with Touchflo does, managing well all through the day! Wohooo!
The only thing is different is I dont use the professional screen, left it unticket in the settings... i also dont use the battery widget. Anyone else noticed difference?
Spb Shell 3.5.2, built 9745
i use shell 3.5, no battery complain at all
I recently switched from Sense 2.5 to Mobile Shell 3.5.1 and I was amazed at how llong the battery lasts. It will go probably 3 days with moderate use without charging.
I am a fan of <<SPB SHELL>>. Not only does it do well with battery consumption, but it is easy to navigate through your device and does so without exhausting the devices resources....
Make sure you uncheck all items (Manila and Titanium) under the Items section found in Home in order to maximize SPB's full potential.
Spb Mobile shell experience
I'm using it on a Touch Diamond and also found the battery life has decreased, "Now" screen is classic and the battery widget is in use. It is version 2.1.1, build 3507, my Diamond using windows 6.1 and original ROM.
Also how can I personalize the background image?
A friend of mine and myself had problems with the Alarm clock.
It simply did not work while using SPB Shell. Mine is a Diamond, his a TP2.
just installed SPB shell 3.5 and my battery now outlasts from touchflo!!! lovin it!!!

on your home lifestyle screen click on the bottom right option tab, this brings up a sub menu of which one of the icons is "change background" click this and one of the options will be to select your image from your picture file, then just go ahead and selct the picture from your album. Hope this helps!
Hello,
Sorry for asking this noob question, I just tried spb mobile shell 3.5.3. Everything's nice except one thing that I still can't figure out. How do we make a call to a number that's not in our contact? The only answer I can find is by pressing the phone button(external button in diamond). Is there anyway we can make a new call without having pressing the button?
Thank you.
I can't get that thing to work! I have tried everything? but I noticed on their website it says only official ROM's supported?
maybe thats why? and how do I make mine official if so, thx!
Thanks that worked!!
Also I experienced what jannen said...better batery life in the second installation of SPB. Guess that has something to do with the qtty of pages you enable in the home screen...I have only one. Battery duration is good.
I like SPB shell but why am I still able to see titanium under it?

SPB Mobile Shell & HTC Sense?

I have SPB Mobile Shell installed and have HTC Sense as my Today screen. I have tried to resequenced them in Start-Up and still works as such:
1. When I boot up SPB MS shows but then HTC Sense Today (ST) displays.
2. I have a shortcut/Icon to get to SPB MS on HTC ST screen. However, if I go to SPB MS it takes me to that screen then immediately returns to HTC ST.
3. If I change the shortcut/Icon to SPB Carousel it does take me to the carousel and I can select any screen except SPB MS and it will stay/display that screen until I go back to HTC ST.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this so when I go to SPB MS and still use HTC ST I can stay there on SPB MS?
On my Omnia I900 I can do basically what I want, however, I am using Omnia Home Option 1 or 2 instead of HTC ST. Tried comparing the two sequence and that is the same on boot-up.
Thanks in advance.
download shell switcher (freeware) from omarket works perfectly ..just select the shell that you prefer either spb, htc sense or windows..alternative would be go to settings and de select sense from today screen options.. its best if you save spb on the device rather then storage card also please note if you select spb you would not be able to access the htc sense today screen only.sry if i misunterstood your question.hope that helps

Thanks! I tried that months ago and must have had an older version since it was not very responsive. Trying the latest that I downloaded and installed, and it seems to work better.
I only wish there was a way to go directly back and forth without making a selection each time. I will play with it to see if there are any options to set default, i.e., SPB SM to HTC Sense (if on SPB SM) and/or HTC Sense to SPB SM (if on HTC Sense) without making a selection each time. Meaning if you on on SPB MS have an Icon to take you directly to HTC and vice versa.
The options shown are:
1. Switch to Selected Shell (but you have to go to the Shell Switcher and Select HTC Sense or SPB Mobile Shell then Switch to that (SPB or HTC Shell.)
2. Switch to Classic Today screen such as: Resco Today Plugin, Pocket Player, Iconsoft PhonEx, Google Search, Skyfire, ElecontWeather, Windows Live, Bing, Instant Messaging, SPB Diary, SPB Backup, SPB Traveler, etc.
Do appreciate your help. My Shout!!
No probz..Ye I know what you mean, If you do find a shortcut do let us know

Definitely, I will post here. I been on YouTub looking for a solution, too. I thought I found one where a bloke posted about SPB MS V5, but it was not V5 and it wasn't showing how to switch back and forth.
Ta Mate!
