Does anyone know what it means when my phone says it is in an unknown state? Then its tells me to reboot. Only happens when I try to use the Wifi tether.

After rooting my phone it no longer gives me the option of "connecting to PC." Whenever I select settings, connect to PC, the app crashes. Does not make a difference whether I am in USB debugging or not.
I need to reformat my SD card, and unable to do so. I use to have the option of selecting the charge/ disk drive, etc. mode in the pull down menu. It is no longer there.
Any ideas on how to fix this so I can connect to my mac or PC?
Thanks,
Todd
Try wiping and see if it works. i had something similar happen to me but it was because i messed up the root process and didnt let the phone communicate anymore. google : how to root HTC evo 2.2 xda. there should be an enr3voked thread on here by Djr3z. it works flawlessly. of course you could just be missing the android bootloader drivers.
good luck
I have the same issue. But if I reboot the EVO and connect it to a PC, the connection option pops up again. If I disconnect and reconnect, nada. Basically, I have to reboot after each connection to get the option to pop up. Using the latest stock Fresh ROM.
Hi guys I'm using the DN Lollipop ROM on my rooted note 4 and I have aptoide installed as well.
Everytime I connect to a wifi it requests me to install drop box. If I accept the request it says App not installed and if I reject it it just goes away. Then if I go upstairs and the wifi connection changes to the other router, it asks me again. Basically it always asks me to install everytime I connect to a wifi. Can anyone tell me how to stop this?
Customer probably flashed a kernel which failed. Now the phone has lost ESN (null). No download mode, no recovery. Device operates other things very well.
Interestingly it rarley shows ESN. I reboot the phone tens of times, maybe only at once of 100 boots it shows up. If it shows up, voice and mobile data works, but otherwise, you need to reboot the phone, untill you can see the ESN.
Additionaly, the same applies for USB connection. I plug the cable and it says "Unknown USB Device" maybe 499 of 500 times. Now I have been trying for two days to flash IMEI /ESN back with EFS Professional, but never managed to get rid of "unknown device" error again. Tried re-installing, using another computer, Windows 7/8 and Ubuntu. No luck. I also tried the method to manually flash memory blocks as described here. But cannot get that far.
At the time once it showed up the ESN, I managed to upgrade the phone from KitKat to Lollipop, using official LG Support Tool. So it is original stock ROM and device is unrooted. But everything is still the same. After the upgrade, original recovery works now, but it has nothing to do with the situation.
Now in device manager it says "USB Device Descriptor failed". Still no download mode. I tried to copy registry values of a working G2, but couldn't manage to make it work.
Now, any other suggestions?
Hey,
I have a Note 4 Developer Edition and have enabled usb debugging. However, when I connect via USB to my Mac, it does not connect. Usually, you will see a notification in the tray that prompts for the desired usb mode. Yet, that option never appears. I tried using both AFT and Kies to connect, but had no success. In fact, when I connect to kies, it starts to connect, but then flashes an error prompt:
"No response from the device. Reboot and reconnect the device. Please contact the customer service centre if the problem persists"
I was only able to read that because I very quickly screenshot the message as it flashed. While Kies gives that message, AFT shows no signs of ever recognizing the device.
Also worth noting is that, on the phone, it asked me something about RSA authentication the first time I tried connecting to this Mac - I remember tapping "yes".
Edit: I have since installed Android Studio on this mac and can successfully connect through the ADB. However, I am still unable to connect to AFT or Kies/Smart Switch
I have google searched for hours and hours to no avail. Please help.
Thanks
when connecting through android studio, in the console I see:
"D/TimaKeyStoreProvider: Cannot add TimaSignature Service, License check Failed"
and
"D/dalvikvm: Debugger has detached; object registry had 1 entries"
I'm not sure if these are related to the issue I'm seeing, but I thought it worth mentioning. I will try to switch from dalvik to ART to see if anything changes.
switching to ART runtime had no affect.
I'm out of ideas. Any troubleshooting suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
While flashing the phone through odin the phone failed on the system image. The firmware file is valid as it has been flashed previously with success. when the phone was rebooted again in download mode the PC will chime as if it can detect the phone at the warning screen although it isnt seen in device manager. as soon as I press Vol+ to continue the computer will say that the phone is an unknown device. No phone is present in device manager still and no error code returned to see what may be causing the connection issue. Along with that the smart switch screen appears rather then showing the usual screen that says Downloading.
No access to recovery or anything else as the phone immetiatly shows the smartswitch screen. When booted normaly the smartswitch screen is also accompanied by no response via usb to show connection not even the previously mentioned Unknown device error to indicate that the computer is even noticing a usb connection at all. All drivers are current.
