Google calander - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi,
I've currently got an Iphone 3G and am sick of the whole Iphone 4 mess so I'm considering getting a Galaxy S.
I'm not familiar with Android so I'm finding out what apps I have on the Iphone I can get on Android.
One question is can I sync the Galaxy Calendar via 3G/WiFi with my Google calendar?
So far it's looking good for the Galaxy!
Cheers.

It sync perfectly with google services. Google calendar is not an exception

Put it this way, every time you add an item in your Galaxy Calendar it automatically gets stamped into your Google Calendar.
I have two calendars and when I add an item it asks which one I want to save it to.

DOH! of course it's a Google phone, I was thinking android and forgetting Google, Sorry Google!

Yep it syncs perfectly with Google contacts, calendar, and contacts. And if you use Spanning Sync your calendar and contacts will sync automatically with iCal and Address book on your map.

On the SGS I've got my calendar open and showing the "Week" listing, but I can't see my appointments, nor the happenings for the day. It's all blank, except for a single listing on saturday.
The previous week is showing elements, but none of the appointments that go across the days, nor is it showing events, except when I'm showing "Day".
This really frustrates me, as I've got a disability that makes it hard for me to manage time without a proper visualization. A feature I actually had in my windows mobile phone
Is this a known bug, if it is one?

MobileMe Service on Android

I am admittedly new to the Android world... Is there a clean and simple way to sync my MobileMe services with my Aria (mail, contacts, calendar)? I had heard that you may be able to set it up as an exchange account; has anyone had any success with that?
I really am just not ready to say goodbye to my MobileMe subscription because of the way it syncs so seamlessly with my Macbook.
Thanks!
If you figure this out that would be nice. Now if I could only get my drm'd itunes music to play on my phone and to be able to import my playlists... Ahh what a world it would be.
There is an app called iSyncr that is suppose to allow you to sync with Itunes. I have not tried it yet. Not sure about Mobile Me info if that would come through with that app or not.
MissingSync is good for MobileMe syncing (via your mac). It's cost like $40 bucks though.
Double Twist kinda works for music.
Android really wants you to be in the google world so if you don't want to pay for MissingSync you should sync up your MobileMe with your Gmail account.

I'm sure if you look for separate methods of exporting certain items of mobile me you eventually find everything you need. I don't think there is a one stop app that will export it all from the cloud. I also don't think its possible to access your mobile me account from any other phone the apples. They probably have it locked down to Apple computers and Apple apps which are never going to be made accessible from apple. They really force you into staying with them by playing these games

Not going to happen. Pay iTunes to convert your DRM'ed itunes music. Anything since something like 2008 should already be non-drmed. Then it'll play.
As mentioned in previous posts, isyncr should then take care of syncing the songs in a given playlist to your phone. I need to get my wife to do this so she'll stop moaning about not having her music..

This post is not about syncing music its about all the mobileme functions like email, calendar and such.

Android does it without any need to pay for such a service. You can sync your google cal, almost any email and contacts from google too over the air.
If you don't already know MobileMe mail works fine through the Mail app.
As far as syncing contacts and calendar, there's not a direct way but a roundabout way through Gmail. I set up my Address Book and iCal app on my Mac Mini to sync with MobileMe and Gmail. So whenever I'm on my Mac Mini it syncs everything among the three of them.
Then I just setup Gmail contacts and calendar sync on the phone. So when you make an update to your calendar through iCal or Address Book, it will sync to Gmail also and back through to your phone.

... Thanks for that observation, Captain Obvious. I was responding to the message which, of course, I quoted in my post, and is also above for your convenience.
Have iCal / Address book sync with your google account... This way everything stays in sync.
Thanks everyone! I saw that you can pull MobileMe into Outlook so I thought there would be a simple method.... Im an all in one kind of guy. I guess i just have to start thinking of a new username as my @me isnt available...
Oh and by the way, swapped the Aria for the Captivate... Im in love with it! (besides the laggy and strange UI)

It seems you have moved to another method but here is the way you keep mobileme and android in sync. Its pretty simple. You need a gmail/google account so that you can sync your calendars and address book on your phone and mac. Now, go into your prefs for ical and add a new google or CalDav account and enter your gmail user name and password. Thats it for the calendars they should now sync. You will have to read up on caldav and the way google and ical interact but it does work perfectly here. Next open address book preferences and click on account and then click "sync with google" enter your info and thats it. Every thing should work pretty much as expected. There are a few gotchas to address book which will make you want to cry but eventually you get used to then and give up crying. Hope this helps.

Google calendar sync

Hi, I have my google calendar all set up ok, and it has an event every day. It syncs fine with my galaxy s2, but when it syncs with my TF, only some events are synced?! It seems completely random.
How can I get all events synced properly? Anyone come across anything like this before?
Cheers.

I have the same issue. I would also like it Facebook would sync with it too.
Sent from my awesome Asus Transformer using XDA's premium app.
I have more or less the same problem. I have synced events one month back from today and all events to the future, but I am not able to synchronize the events older than one +-month which were in google calendar (web interface) before synchronizing. If I try to create new event, but on the date older than one month (for example 5.5.2011) on web (sync to Transformer) even on Transformer (sync to web) everything is ok, but if there is another event with the new one, I see synced only new one. Really weird
i had the same problem. In my case it was an issue with recurrence (google does not support some patterns that outlook does for example: repeat on the last sunday of the month). Changing this solved sync issues. I read also that any other unsupported field will prevent sync - so keep it simple. Hope this helps. Irek

Calendar App

Hi, probably too soon, but has someone already managed to solve the one calendar problem on Calendar App? Like, i use google calendar with multiple calendars in it (basically, for different colors display on phone), an would be nice to have this feature here... I know, probably wont be fixed till final release, but just wanted to know if someone had an Idead =)
BTW, loved this consumer preview! Really, just put google account somewhere, and everything else started sharing and syncing!!
Havn't had time to install the Consumer Preview yet (and I don't really use Google Calender), but there is a similar problem with WP7.
Now I don't know if the Calender app support multiple calenders correctly (might be an issue on Windows 8's side), but if it does (like WP7), you need to select which calenders to use in Google.
Again, I am not too familiar with this, but this might the same problem so this page might help you:

If it doesn't work after that try manually syncing Google or re-adding your Google account.
hm, good shot, but two problems...
first, I used to have this problem on iphone, and solved like the way you showed. On android, don't have this issue, can't even access this webpage cause it has other ways to solve. So, i used my sister's iphone, and went to m.google.com/sync, and there the only thing that showed was Windows Mail, no calendar options =/
Tryed to resync, no luck, since different from mail app, it can't be done. You cand Add accounts, but not delete...
But, anyway, its a beta, probably things are gonna change in the near future
BTW, when windows phone 8.0 show up, my galaxy sII will have a mini heart attack, haha
thanks anyway

Hi,
Currently per Google's request for bandwith, Calendar App only Sync root calendar.
Developers on both sides are working on this issue to improve accessibility on this.
Thank you for using Windows 8 and your feedback.

i got my google calendar to work in sync with the calendar app for windows 8 if that is what you are asking i could explain? google calendar colors is another story though, can't replicate the color scheme on w8
he meant multiple calendars using the same account, currently the calendar will only show the primary calendar, it has no options to see the other calendars created under the same account, reason is in that quote of mine above

[Q] How did Google get this info

Ok, so I got a new Nexus 4 and started it.
It asked me for my gmail account which I entered. However after the initial setup was completed I was shocked to find my phonebook contacts exactly the same as my old phone on my Nexus 4.
Does anyone know how did Google get hold of my phone contacts ?
Few things:
- The contacts I see on the phone are not gmail contacts. I have 400+ gmail contacts. The contacts I automatically got on the phone were the exact contacts in my previous Android phone (HTC HD2 rooted with ICS CM Nexus ROM)
- In my old phone I never synched contacts. I always had mail checked in sync settings. Calendar, contacts etc were not checked.
- I also own a Nexus 7 tab and that does not have any setting to store contacts.
- When I ordered the phone I selected the option to not link it to any google account.
Any idea ?
Well, phone contacts have been synced to your Google account for a long time now. You must have synced them at least once on your old phone.
Must have synced to your account before you turned off contacts sync.
It's possible that they're saved on your SIM Card.

While that is certainly a possibility but I am skeptical of that because
- As a practice I never sync anything except EMAIL on my gmail, hotmail, yahoo accounts. everything else is unchecked.
- My phone contacts are not synced with hotmail or yahoo but appear to be only on gmail even though I had the same settings across all accounts.
- There are contacts I have on my gmail which I didnt have on my previous phone. These are not present on the new Nexus 4.
you probably synced it on ur old phone when u flashed ics, since default is to sync when you got ur contacts back on ur old phone it probably didnt automatically
google didnt "steal" your info or anything unless you think of what they do with info as stealing
contact sync is actually awesome and really helpful, i wouldnt see this as a bad thing if i were u but everyone has their own opinions
thanks for the replies so far.
While I agree it is a good feature to have, but I use a third party app to achieve this or do export to SD and then import from SD to back up contacts.

Just use Google contacts, and unless you're some kind of super spy or something and foreign governments are hacking your contacts because everyone you know is so important.

When you initially setup an android phone it asks you if you want to backup and sync your data with Google's servers and you've must have done this before in the past. I also think contact sync is set to on by default its in settings>accounts>google>[email protected] I actually like the feature as all my apps and contacts are automatically downloaded to a new phone right at the start.

[Q] [PA 3.99] Unrestricted, native Facebook sync?

Hello,
I'm coming from an HTC One V on Android 4.0 where the Facebook app could sync profile pictures, phone numbers, birthdays, and calendar, and am quite disappointed to discover that Google restricts Facebook functionality on its Nexus devices. I understand that Facebook doesn't want to comply with Google's policies regarding openness either. But for the time being I just want to enjoy full Facebook functionality on my phone and not be held hostage of some corporate wars. I've tried a lot of Facebook sync apps, but none of them replicated the original functionality of the official Facebook app: most of them didn't import phone numbers of missing contacts, and none of them synced the calendar for example, which I rely on quite a lot.
So I'd like to know if it would be possible, on Paranoid Android, to lift the restrictions that Google put in place towards the Facebook app on some of its devices (or restore the favorable exception that was put in place a while ago, if you prefer to see it this way). I think the sync functionality currently exists in the Facebook app, but is not picked up by Android.
Thanks.
This was one of the things I missed coming from my Incredible S. Haxsync works wondrously for me though, check it out

Thanks but it's a paid app. I really don't want to pay for a feature that's supposed to be included in the official app.
Bump.
