I am admittedly new to the Android world... Is there a clean and simple way to sync my MobileMe services with my Aria (mail, contacts, calendar)? I had heard that you may be able to set it up as an exchange account; has anyone had any success with that?
I really am just not ready to say goodbye to my MobileMe subscription because of the way it syncs so seamlessly with my Macbook.
Thanks!
If you figure this out that would be nice. Now if I could only get my drm'd itunes music to play on my phone and to be able to import my playlists... Ahh what a world it would be.
There is an app called iSyncr that is suppose to allow you to sync with Itunes. I have not tried it yet. Not sure about Mobile Me info if that would come through with that app or not.
MissingSync is good for MobileMe syncing (via your mac). It's cost like $40 bucks though.
Double Twist kinda works for music.
Android really wants you to be in the google world so if you don't want to pay for MissingSync you should sync up your MobileMe with your Gmail account.

I'm sure if you look for separate methods of exporting certain items of mobile me you eventually find everything you need. I don't think there is a one stop app that will export it all from the cloud. I also don't think its possible to access your mobile me account from any other phone the apples. They probably have it locked down to Apple computers and Apple apps which are never going to be made accessible from apple. They really force you into staying with them by playing these games

Not going to happen. Pay iTunes to convert your DRM'ed itunes music. Anything since something like 2008 should already be non-drmed. Then it'll play.
As mentioned in previous posts, isyncr should then take care of syncing the songs in a given playlist to your phone. I need to get my wife to do this so she'll stop moaning about not having her music..

Android does it without any need to pay for such a service. You can sync your google cal, almost any email and contacts from google too over the air.
If you don't already know MobileMe mail works fine through the Mail app.
As far as syncing contacts and calendar, there's not a direct way but a roundabout way through Gmail. I set up my Address Book and iCal app on my Mac Mini to sync with MobileMe and Gmail. So whenever I'm on my Mac Mini it syncs everything among the three of them.
Then I just setup Gmail contacts and calendar sync on the phone. So when you make an update to your calendar through iCal or Address Book, it will sync to Gmail also and back through to your phone.

... Thanks for that observation, Captain Obvious. I was responding to the message which, of course, I quoted in my post, and is also above for your convenience.
Have iCal / Address book sync with your google account... This way everything stays in sync.
Thanks everyone! I saw that you can pull MobileMe into Outlook so I thought there would be a simple method.... Im an all in one kind of guy. I guess i just have to start thinking of a new username as my @me isnt available...
Oh and by the way, swapped the Aria for the Captivate... Im in love with it! (besides the laggy and strange UI)

It seems you have moved to another method but here is the way you keep mobileme and android in sync. Its pretty simple. You need a gmail/google account so that you can sync your calendars and address book on your phone and mac. Now, go into your prefs for ical and add a new google or CalDav account and enter your gmail user name and password. Thats it for the calendars they should now sync. You will have to read up on caldav and the way google and ical interact but it does work perfectly here. Next open address book preferences and click on account and then click "sync with google" enter your info and thats it. Every thing should work pretty much as expected. There are a few gotchas to address book which will make you want to cry but eventually you get used to then and give up crying. Hope this helps.

You just add a Gmail account to your WP7, choose what you wanna sync (Email, Contacts and/or Calendar) and its pretty straight forward.

Just like a Gmail account, you add a Facebook account and it will sync all your Facebook contacts. If 2 entries are created in your People Hub (same person, but different names), you can link both entries that combine into one smooth contact entry.

WP7 plays very well with Gmail... currently I have 1 Gmail account, 2 Hotmail/Live ones, 2 Exchange accounts and 1 Facebook. Everything works well.
As for XBox, you don't need to cough up $50 a year, don't worry... I also don't have an XBox, but still play games just fine.
Have fun,

Thanks for the replies! I actually pulled the trigger and got the trophy and I have to tell you I'm so impressed with the interface! WP7 is amazing
I cam from two droids (original then droid x) and WP7 is so much more polished and fluid than anything on android. Set up was a breeze too! in minutes all my gmail contacts were there and the facebook integration is amazing. I just hope to squeeze out some more hours of battery but I can live with having to charge it often since its such a great device. Cant wait for the mango update now.

Welcome aboard the WP7 train mate. Next stop... Mango City
Hello I just switched from HTC Desire (very good phone) to the SGSII (Better)...
And i am quite happy with my desicion. I have only two things that are a problem right now.
1. I am missing the Sense Mail widgets.
2. GPS Inaccuracy.
So my questions are:
1. Mail widget...
I am looking for a mail widget that binds to a specific account. So i have 4 email accounts and i want to bind the widget to one of them.
So if I want to use all mail accounts I will have to place 4 widgeds and configure them for each maill account. And preferebly they should show the subject.
2. GPS inaccuracy in Navigon
I was driving a road and where my desire had pinpoint accuracy, the Sammy thought I was about 60 meters to the right, and started to bark all kind of instructions to get back to the road (where i already was on)....
So anybody can help me? (Need mail widget the most) the widgets from launcher pro are what i need but I wat to jump to the correct mail client (that shows the message as it should be) Launcher pro has it's own mail renderere and that's not what i want.
The GPS in SGS2 works very well for me, so that is not a general issue.
But maybe the circumstances were bad at the time, you can only compare with Desire if you had it with you at at the same time, because satellites are moving and weather is changing etc.
Did you have big buildings close to the roads? That can cause disturbances.
Do you have A-GPS enabled? (enable "use wireless networks" in Location settings menu).
Can you explain why you would not want to push all your different email accounts from where-ever to one Gmail account and only use that one?! There should be plenty of gmail widgets on the market.

1. Hotmail is my privat email.
2. Exchange is corporate with required pin
3. Gmail = rubbish mail....
So I only want to be notified when I receive a Private or corporate mail....
and if i look, i want to see private or corporate depending on what I am doing.
Maybe I am a bit old, but i don't want a unified inbox. I want it organized as it was on my HTC.
I could do thi son my HTC without rooting and it worked like a charm....
I Really like the speed and screen of the SGII but i really do miss my Sense widgets...
I have spend a lot of money in the appstore opnly to get this functionality, I tried a lot, Pure Messenger widget and everything... Needed root, but could not read my exchange mail, uninstall and find the mail app broken, had to flash (now on KG2)
But a HTC has this functionality out of the box with no extra charge.....
How is Gmail rubbish when you can have all those corporate mail and hotmail and whatnot in there and they are not unified but you can access them separately via the gmail app? To me it seems that you are just stuck to 90's
Edit *i have my own business mail account there (own domain), my second work (work for another company) mail there (2 domains) and my personal gmail there. I also have multiple different email addresses from my own business there unified for a seperate account. All organised and working like a ****ing BOSS!

Hi, I tried searching for something like this on xda and I couldn't find anything. On my galaxy s2 the calendar app just doesn't sync with my Google mail account. I go into calendar it asks me to go to he Google account sync setting to sync calendar, even though the tick box for sync calender is checked, I click sync now anyway. After it has finished I go back to the calendar app, and it asks me to do the the same thing again. My contacts and even wallpaper form my old phone were synced propyl from my Google account but not my calendar. I just can't seem to find any reason why it isn't working. I've never had any problems like this before on my old rooted htc desire, where was flashing new roms weekly, so why on my galaxy s2. Would someone be able to help me please?
Just wanted to say I have the same problem, hopefully someone can help us.
I think it might be the Samsung social hub, together with the inability if kies to sync with google, and an assumption that you might want to use kies (or a lack of testing with the google calendar)
Try removing your social hub facebook account, and maybe deleting all the calendar data on the phone (under settings/applications/calander) so long as you are confident you have nothing stored locally without a backup.
I find the social hub facebook integration useless at the moment, since it doesn't hide declined invitations for me, so I'm going back to trying the google integration (which means i get birthdays spamming my calendar instead)

Hi guys!
I am a happy android user on a galaxy nexus. I was waiting for the nexus 4 but I live in Italy and it is going to sell for about 600€ versus the 350$ so I'm pretty disappointed. I started looking around and I'm curious about the new WP8 and, especially, the Lumia 920. I haven't had a Nokia in ages!
The deal breaker is the app eco system.
I am a big Google services user and have understood that there is total sync capability while I m still undecided on the app part.
Is there a site with a list where I can find the most common apps or app categories on android and see if there is a counter part in wp 8?
My last resort would be going on the windows market place and just look around.
Thank you!
PS I searched in the forum but wasn't able to find anything very specific

The best thing to do is search the marketplace yourself. You will find apps for almost everything you do on android, except those rendered useless by the system (in WP, system apps are actually doing a pretty damn good job and do not require replacement from the marketplace), but they are likely under different names, so a list would be very difficult and pointless to compile.
I switched from Android to Windows Phone 8 and i have everything i used on Android. Sure i miss some apps, like PowerAMP; Google+, a good Facebook App and a AD Blocker app. But i can life without them. There are some apps as well which sucks like WhatsApp, but i guess WhatsApp is goin to fix that soon.
What are your favorite apps on Android ?
I consider essential apps like
Google reader,
adobe reader,
kindle,
evernote,
medscape,
epocrates,
Dropbox,
whatsapp (I barely eve use SMS'),
And of course Google maps
I'm a doctor so I use a lot of medical apps but seeing the shortage on android vs iOS I bell believe wp8 only to be worse...
I have to ask what is the point of using Evernote as in Windows environment you have OneNote? You sync your OneNotes automatically to your Outlook (or Live/Hotmail) account and can sync to desktop.
Well, first of all I don't have a Microsoft environment (I have a Mac, galaxy nexus, iPad and nexus 7!) and second I have never had a windows phone so I really don't know how all the syncing works!
Since I work on different platforms I use drop box for documents and evernote for notes and everything is always perfectly synced!

Not sure what Google reader does, but it is not needed.
Adobe reader is present
Kindle is present
Evernote is present, although you have one note.
Drop box is present (although you have skydrive)
whatsapp is not needed
Google maps is not needed (you have offline maps: nokia maps)
As for other medical apps, i am not entirely sure what kind of medical apps you would expect to have, but there's plenty of WP ones.
Even if you use a MAC< getting a Microsoft account and using hotmail/outlook is easy(you only need a browser).

Why do say that whatsapp is not needed?
Google reader is a RSS feed app
I already have a hotmail account, I just prefer to use less accounts possible (I know, I can filter and forward messages!)
I prefer Dropbox because all my friends and colleagues have it so it is just easier to handle files.
Off topic: just went to see a Lumia 920 and it looks really nice!
I think "WhatsApp not needed" is a typo. WP has WhatsApp and they are about to update it too.

WP is like Android. MS wants you to have Outlook/Hotmail/Live email address to access marketplace etc. So you need to have the account. You dont need to sync the emails to your phone if you dont want. Also you use that account to connect with Twitter and Facebook chat. With that account you get SkyDrive space of I think 7gb for free (I got it upgraded to 25gb for free, but that offer is not valid anymore)

Dropbox is present and accounted for.
As for RSS feed apps, you have plenty. Google is not really active in Windows Phone area, as they will do everything to undermine the platform.
As for using accounts, Windows Phone has a very clean way of managing accounts. Just add them one by one, and you get different apps for each one of them, they are all nicely filtered and stuff like that. You can easily make a hotmail account for the marketplace and keep using your old accounts for the rest of the things you do.
ATM i have 3 accounts attached to my lumia 800: My "marketplace" account which happens to be my main email address, my developer account, under which i publish apps, and some yahoo email for family members. They are all working nicely.
@OP that's kind of a hard question. The apps depends on each user. Some people don't use any while others depend on very specific apps.

You can definitely use your O365 account for e-mail, etc.; if you also have a Microsoft Account (a.k.a. .Net Passport/Windows Live/other names it's gone by in the past) set up using that same e-mail address, you can use it as your main account that's tied to the Store, etc. to buy apps and whatnot. I was doing exactly that for a while ([email protected] hosted on Office365 and also tied in as a Microsoft Account). I'm no longer using Office365 to host that e-mail (just moved it to outlook.com for free since it's a personal account), but it's still my Microsoft Account. It all ties together nicely with whatever combination of accounts you use.
I was just looking at the app list for wp8 and its getting better.

Being a 4th year pharmacy student I can answer your medical application questions. There is no epocrates, medscape, lexicomp, clinical pharmacology, etc...
But there is a PubMed Mobile not made by them as far as I can tell. Just shows you search results and then when you click one it takes you to the website. Found an application called Drugs&Medications it's a dollar and tells you facts about drugs (company, dosage form, common indications, and links you to the FDA website didn't buy it so can't fact check it).
That being said I found some applications from http://www.unboundmedicine.com/products/windows_phone/ on the store.
So yes you're right it is worse. I've already accepted that I'll have to switch to an iPhone for my rotations lol.

Anyway if you could tie marketplace to o365 account, you still need Live (Hotmail or Outlook etc) to connect with Facebook chat and twitter. It is still best to have the Live account as main account and other accounts like o365 secondary.
Ok, so I got a new Nexus 4 and started it.
It asked me for my gmail account which I entered. However after the initial setup was completed I was shocked to find my phonebook contacts exactly the same as my old phone on my Nexus 4.
Does anyone know how did Google get hold of my phone contacts ?
Few things:
- The contacts I see on the phone are not gmail contacts. I have 400+ gmail contacts. The contacts I automatically got on the phone were the exact contacts in my previous Android phone (HTC HD2 rooted with ICS CM Nexus ROM)
- In my old phone I never synched contacts. I always had mail checked in sync settings. Calendar, contacts etc were not checked.
- I also own a Nexus 7 tab and that does not have any setting to store contacts.
- When I ordered the phone I selected the option to not link it to any google account.
Any idea ?
Well, phone contacts have been synced to your Google account for a long time now. You must have synced them at least once on your old phone.
Must have synced to your account before you turned off contacts sync.
It's possible that they're saved on your SIM Card.

While that is certainly a possibility but I am skeptical of that because
- As a practice I never sync anything except EMAIL on my gmail, hotmail, yahoo accounts. everything else is unchecked.
- My phone contacts are not synced with hotmail or yahoo but appear to be only on gmail even though I had the same settings across all accounts.
- There are contacts I have on my gmail which I didnt have on my previous phone. These are not present on the new Nexus 4.
you probably synced it on ur old phone when u flashed ics, since default is to sync when you got ur contacts back on ur old phone it probably didnt automatically
google didnt "steal" your info or anything unless you think of what they do with info as stealing
contact sync is actually awesome and really helpful, i wouldnt see this as a bad thing if i were u but everyone has their own opinions
thanks for the replies so far.
While I agree it is a good feature to have, but I use a third party app to achieve this or do export to SD and then import from SD to back up contacts.

Just use Google contacts, and unless you're some kind of super spy or something and foreign governments are hacking your contacts because everyone you know is so important.

When you initially setup an android phone it asks you if you want to backup and sync your data with Google's servers and you've must have done this before in the past. I also think contact sync is set to on by default its in settings>accounts>google>[email protected] I actually like the feature as all my apps and contacts are automatically downloaded to a new phone right at the start.
