Hi,
I bought my new Sony Xperia X8 today to find out that it was running Android 1.6
So i went onto PC Companion and found a new update was available (Android 2.1)
So I went and ran it...after a hour it is still on the preparation process.
Why is it going so slow?
Thanks,
Chris
Because the Firmware needs to be downloaded. If you have a very slow internet connection it will take longer to download...

You can use SEUS
Or better root 1.6 and download the rooted 2.1 rom from lastest rooted and unrooted rom thread, will save you from downgrading for rooting..
And from next time post such threads in general section
I've updated my phone from 1.6 to 2.1 without rooting.
After the update, it would radomly disconnect from network and asks for pin. Meaning any calls wouldn't be received at that time.
Any suggestions?
Any one can chime in?
Should I redo the installation? I didn't via SE update software.
Try to update with SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) that can be found on http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...s/detailed/updateservice/xperiax8?cc=gb&lc=en

That's what I did in the first place. It was Android 1.6, now 2.1 but I get "network disconnected". Didn't happen before the update.
Any ideas?
I'm really having a big issue with this and it's annoying. Should I just root it and install a custom rom? Would that solve the problem?
I have experience with rooting and custom roms as I have a Nexus One rooted and customized to death!!
[Q] Rogers Xperia Play R800aAT&T in US; How to update to 2.3.3 without losing Root?
Can anyone please help me update my Rogers sim unlocked gingerbreak rooted Xperia Play in the United States to 2.3.3 without losing my root access? I heard OTA update was the only way but since I'm in America using AT&T it just says that it can't connect to the network. If I use the PC Companion software then I beleive I will lose my root. Any help out there?
You need to follow the instructions in the Working Root thread. The 2.3.2 ROM you flash is a world version, not a carrier version, so you'll get the 2.3.3 update OTA no problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090&highlight=working+root
Even if you have an AT&T sim you can still update over the air. You can also use the desktop software.
Rumor is the update is coming out tomorrow over the air. I can see it on the desktop program already but I haven't updated yet.
Have you tried putting your xperia play on wifi then checking for an update?
I am new here in this forum but i was also facing problem with root accedently i update my arc from 0.42 to 0.62 and i lost my root. Now yesterday rooted my arc and my phone once again awsome.....I want to share how i did it and this happened with the help of comments in this forum and moders and developer who develop the mods for arc. (1) MAke backup of your market appliction with titanium backup.
(2) Download 4.0.2.A.0.42 from ( jlmcr87 posted the link )
(3) Flash this firmware with any version of flastool i did this with 0.2.9 & 0.6.8
(4) After flashing the firmware root xperia arc with the methood of ( zergRUSH any version ) i root with the ( zergRUSH version 1 & 3).
(5) After that immediately connect your phone with wireless network and check for update. Its display that new version is availabe 4.0.2.A.0.62. Click to update
After update click to install. IT will take time and your phone start several time dont worry about it. After completing update first boot take time.

Happy to hear it works for you. It doesn't work for me. When I try to update via OTA, the phone starts updating, does a few reboots and when you think it is done it shows a message "Could not install new software version. Try again"
which firmware you flashed on your arc. i pasred a link of 0.42 download and flash it. it worked 100% i have done this on 7 xperia arc sets. all sets work perfectly working awsome. Try one more time with step by step it will definately work
Error
Could not install new software version. Try again.
Xperia Arc s

Same for me - tried 3+ times now.
This post seems to suggest the update is no longer available with ICS so close, but in that case I'd have thought it would fail earlier - the download seems to work fine; it's the install that fails.

ya.. but i can root ...
i have firmware 42 . i rooted with zergrush,then i deleted some bloatware previously..
so i have retored the stuff that i deleted from system/app..
then i update over air for .62 i download. after that phone rebooted.. then within the second it told me that "update failed" for .62 firmware ...!!
plz help to correct me
As in my second post i told download 0.42 firmware from this link( ://uploaded.to/file/vmfu4czg ) then flash it and then root it. Then update it through wifi. Today i try it on xperia s (LT18i) and i ts working perfectly i did not face any problem.
try flashing 0.42 Generic Global and then do all the procedure
Srry for lazy in translating, i have some more detail (including picture to demonstrate) in this link
Hope this can help
If you want to update OTA from .42 to .62, don't change anything in the system files. Update to .62 OTA first, then do whatever you want to your phone.
Hi there Got the same problem. I was always using Zergrush method for root. When I got .62 firmware it wont work. (fails in console while rooting). You said that we must flash .42 firmware then root, then update via OTA, but I got relocked bootloader. Can it brick my phone?
Not with locked bootloader.
Only use ota with locked bootloader
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
Yes, but my friend got xperia play. After unlocking bootloader he locked it with THIS
method. Then he start updating via OTA and get his phone bricked.
I got locked bootloader with the same method.
Hello,
after flashing the new Update via Flashtool from xperifirm, the Phone cannot recognized that this update is installed. The Phone want to update? What can i do and where is the Problem?
Best wishes...
