Can u flash a diff rom with android Recovery - EVO 4G General

Hey i was following the idiot proof guide to rooting but the step to install clockwork recovery.zip is missing the dl. U need the .zip to flash the recovery to with android recovery so u can avoid adb (which for some reason i cannot get to work on this pc But it did work perfect on my other pc but its power supply just went out so at the moment i can not adb) and avoid SU ways.. the rom dosent have su in it after rooting. So i cannot use terminal app or adb.
my question is when i boot holding down vol and get to that white screen then goto recovery it takes me the the "!" screen i then hold up vol and power and i get to android recovery... If i factory reset and wipe cache cam i change a rom.zip to update.zip and flash it that way to get a rom with su so i can install clockwork recovery?
So basically i am asking can i use android recovery(not clockwork or recovery RA) to flash a new rom with su?

No you can't.

Clockwork recovery doesn't work properly when wiping. Use toasts method in the sticky. The recovery is also there.

root my dell streak, not shure

Hello, I'm Luis, and i'm newbie here i have bought about 4 months my streak.
Also installed one firewall for some programs don't use 3G connections and only use wifi. that firewall requires root acess.
By your tutorial in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Dell_Streak/Flashing_Guide#Rooting_your_phone
and by your tutorial boot recovery mode http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...g_Guide#Flashing_an_update.zip_with_streakmod
when i press to update from sd card, appears the follwing message:
"Press shutter button to start emergency recovery software"
"Warning: all data will be erase"
"Press volume up to turn off"
What you can tell me about second line "all data will be erase"?
Thanks
I'm betting I know what happened here. After flashing the custom recovery with fastboot, you let your phone reboot didn't you? If you are on a stock rom, flash a custom recovery, and let the phone reboot, the stock rom will rewrite the recovery with the stock recovery.
After flashing the custom recovery, pull the battery. Now replace the battery and power up while holding both volume buttons. When you choose option 2, it will boot into streakmod recovery, where you can flash the superuser.zip file.
Thought I should add:
After rooting, use a root enable file manager (search the market, there are lots of them. I prefer Root Explorer, but it is not free) to delete /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Now, since you had to boot with your stock rom, your custom recovery is gone. But you can flash it again and it will stay.
hmm, but i never flash it. Its the original rom, only thing i have done, is OTA upgrade to Froyo..
how can i install a costum recovery?
sorry, but e never dit it before..
=== EDIT ===
you mean install StreakMod Recovery, don't you?
thanks
Welk if you havent flashed it, then thats your problem. You have to flash a custom recovery. And yes, I mean Streakmod. Read those tutorials. They will tell you what you need to know.

Okay, i will try...
sorry, when they say: "Unzip and flash with: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img"
Its suppose to do this from the phone (but in fastboot, there is olny numbers, no other leters or simbols), so its to do on the computer with usb cable plugged?
What software for flashboot?
thanks
There is a detailed tutorial at http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Dell_Streak
Just go thru it. Make sure you read it again and again.
It is not from mobile. You have to connect your streak to PC. Switch that on by pressing the volume + - button and you get to see the driver installation.
You need to install the drivers first on PC.
Then you need to download the fastboot tools (above link contains all)
Open command prompt from fastboot file location
copy the rom/image (what ever you want to flash) to that location
Do the fastboot
I am not going in to detail as the wiki gives much better instructions !

Cannot Enter Recovery (CWM)

Hi,
I unlocked my bootloader today and I just flashed the latest CWM Recovery via Fastboot.
However, when I try to enter Android Recovery I get the Android with the white triangle and exclamation point.
I saw a similar thread but did not see a resolution. Do I need to flash the Gingerbread boot.img via Fastboot?
Also, I read you have to delete a file somewhere or else the default recovery restores itself every reboot? I did not delete any such file, and when I unlocked my bootloader, it obviously wiped my data.
Any ideas how I can get into recovery and flash me a dang ROM?

I followed these steps:
Flashing CWM Recovery via Fastboot -
1.Download the latest CWM recovery from Downloads section (recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-olympus.img)
2.Power off phone
3.Put phone into fastboot (Power + Vol Down Button)
4.Press Volume Up button to select Fastboot
5.Connect phone via USB cable
6.Open Command Prompt from your fastboot directory
7.Type fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-olympus.img
8.Type "fastboot reboot"
9.Your phone will reboot normally
Also, how screwed would I be if I don't backup my PDS? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138220
I got it. Loving CM7
Could you share how did you make it work?

Can you still boot into the Android operating system itself? If you can, then you can download a terminal emulator from Google Play and use it to boot into recovery through its command line. Here's what you would need to type in, only type what is in bold:
su
(This requests superuser/root permissions for the app. When you get this, wait for a message to come up asking if you want to give it root permissions and then grant the app permissions.)
reboot recovery
This will make the phone turn off, and it will boot into recovery. If it doesn't boot into recovery, then the recovery itself is probably broken.
I'll try to get the button combo for recovery ASAP, just in case the terminal emulator method does not work.
EDIT: Here is how to boot into recovery with the button combinations:
1) turn off the phone, take off the cover, and remove the battery.
2) put the battery back in
3) hold down the volume down key. CONTINUE TO HOLD IT DOWN AS YOU THEN HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON TO TURN THE PHONE ON AGAIN.
this method is to get into stock recovery, but you can try it to get into CWM. Post back what happens when you try these methods.

Can't boot into TWRP

After unlocking the boot loader I installed twrp recovery 3.0.2 and it installed successfully and rooted the phone too. I got bored as till now there was no nougat update for my phone so I flashed resurrection remix 5.7.4 and it flashed successfully but when I tried to boot in recovery mode it booted into normal mode. I installed back miui rom but then also I couldn't boot to recovery. So, I installed twrp recovery once again and it booted to recovery but once again when i tried to boot into recovery mode it booted into normal mode. So everytime when i had to boot to recovery i had to flash the recovery using my laptop. Please help me.

You can't directly boot to recovery. To do that just power off your device and press vol+, vol- and power button to get to recovery.

I can do boot into recovery directly by updater app or by the reboot into recovery option in Resurrection Remix. Yeah also by your method too and I have tried by every method.
Did you format data after installing recovery from fast boot?
First download the attached file and place at sdcard (internal memory) at the root.
Then if you don't have Terminal emulator app installed on your device, go and grab it first. On installation, open up the app and type at prompt exactly as below.
su
dd if=/sdcard/1.img of=dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/aboot
reboot
Be careful to type aboot not boot in the above commands, otherwise you will enter into boot loop.
After this, you will be able to boot into custom recovery either by emulator or any other app capable of booting the device into recovery mode.
Edit: Another pre-condition - you must have rooted your device before proceeding with above method.

Did fastboot gave some error message, also did you only test to go to recovery straight from fastboot, because that is other recovery which can't be changed.

Just to make sure because the recovery stuff with this device can be at start a bit confusing. Please check does the recovery you boot into have factory reset option in it.
Also can you give a link for the twrp you flashed?

1. Booloader unlocking only affects to what you can flash in fastboot, it doesn't affect stock recovery funtionality.
I asked about factory reset option, because I wanted to make sure you aren't booting to "recovery2/eRecovery". (It doesn't have factory reset option)
2. Avoid using kingoroot and other oneclick root apps if it is possible.
3. Your firmware version doesn't matter.
4. Bootloader unlocking can't cause crash. Locked bootloader could cause crash if system is modified(I think), but you would still be able to get recovery.
One way to make sure you boot to normal recovery is to connect your phone to pc --> open command line --> type "adb reboot recovery". This won't take you to erecovery
I can't do any better help with the current information.
After you successfully flash the recovery with fastboot (always use the latest!) You need to do these things in order (and fast) in order to but to TWRP. If you don't it will boot to stock recovery and you have to fastboot flash again.
You must
a) write fastboot reboot in the console but don't pass Enter!!
b) hold VOLUME UP
c) (still holding VOL UP) presss Enter and remove the USB cable immediately once it says your device is booting now.
Keep holding VOL UP until you boot to TWRP. Allow modifications.
For root you will flash Magisk (you know, normal zip), which a) is open source, so no sneaky stuff and b) can hide root from apps as a bonus. You can always get the zip here: http://tiny.cc/latestmagisk
Important: If you have other root solutions install them for example SuperSU has an uninstall option. Then flash Magisk

The recovery you go from fastboot is eRecovery. You can't boot to stock or TWRP recovery directly from fastboot. If you choose shutdown from eRecovery then you can just go to TWRP with normal way (power + VOL UP). Going to eRecovery doesn't undo TWRP installation. (This also means you can do force update even with TWRP installed, I think, not 100% sure)

I do this every time. See surdu's post here. Fastboot reboo is just a reboot, so the familiar key combo will boot to recovery.

I just wanted to point out that you don't need to re-flash if you happen to only press vol up in fastboot.
