im waiting for epic to come out and see which of the 4G devices I should purchase base on user feedback\reviews.
i think it will have insane speed/graphics due to hummingbird, i would upgrade but i have 8 more months to go

Hmm, glad I didn't buy the Evo Now I can get this or whatever's better once my contract runs up.
I took back my EVO for the Epic. The EVO sucked in my opinion. The build quality is kinda horrid, I went through 3 EVOs all which broke on me. I was very disappointed with HTC this time around.

The EVOs hardware is horrible on their first builds. The first one the USB port broke, second one the bottom lights didnt light up right and the third one the USB port broke again, it got to the point where it literally couldnt charge it anymore. I've had enough with that ****ty phone.

I know better than to get a samsung phone after seeing what they did with the moment
Ugh I'm in a tough spot. Went wakeboarding with my hero in my pocket this morning, and I'll let it sit in rice for a few days but I'm not holding out hope. I do have a line in our plan up for upgrade.
Do I:
Use it on another hero, which will root and probably run Froyo happily for another 10 months
Get an Evo which is nice but frickin' huge. Suck up the $10 sucker fee and deny the phones on the horizon
Get a cheap flip phone off Craigslist and hold out for an Epic.
Do I even want a hardware keyboard? Even if I didn't use it this phone looks awesome. Samsung support scares me though. Perusing the Moment developer scene doesn't give me much hope of getting AOSP builds going.

I guess I've decided to use my old Q9C (UGH!) for the month or so until the Epic is rumored to come out. I'll pick it up and try it out, and use the 30 day return to hop back to Evo if I don't like it.

not worth it to waste an upgrade on a hero. go grab a old palm or blackberry and use it if u want the epic. or just suck it up and get the hero
Or if you wanted to pick up phones at radioshack you could just return each phone before the 30 days were up until it got released,
I did a whole tour exploring different phones and platforms waiting for the evo when I headed back to sprint, each time you return a phone it resets your 30 day period

First post, but I've been lurking for a bit.
Anyway, I just got my Hero with Sprint about a week ago and am running DamageControl's current ROM. It's a killer phone, but from what I understand the Droid has more processing power. I've got another 3 weeks to give back everything and get free Droids with Verizon.
I know this is a Hero forum, but I wondered if anybody knew of a "benchmarking" resource for all Android phones.....

i like the hero and am willing to stick with it until the evo, and as for whatever comes out after that...i dont know. (android, htc, ect) will eventually release their own iPad, im sure, but i guess its a matter of what YOU want. i got a great plan with sprint (54$ for unlmtd everything) with great coverage (detroit it a major city, its bound to be set up good for the 3G user) and a highly customizable phone to say the least (ill admit i was disappointed when i got the hero, learned of the nexus and all the new upncumins) and am excited to move onto the evo, and can wait patiently.

I was able to see the evo up and running the other day.... WOW. Slim and sleek and very fast... took about a 1/3 or less of the time it took the Hero to open stuff. It was running on 2.1 as well and look really similar to Damages 2.1v5 ROM. This handset is going to really help out Sprint. Only thing the one I saw lacking was they hadn't activated the 4g on it yet.

Yeah, after studying competing prices, I don't know that I could stomach what everybody else is charging. I just don't get how anybody is competing with Sprint at this point!
I'm paying $129 -%15 for two lines, 1500 minutes, web, txt, and mobile-to-mobile. ANYBODY else charges $40-80 a month more!
I guess it's good for us they're so desperate for customers
PS I'm curious as to the price of the EVO. Any guesses?

At least until the next android update (Froyo) is out. I believe Froyo is supposed to support 4G natively
haha, yeah it does. they had it on another phone of theirs in the past (winmo). I wonder what video formats will be supported natively. I hope they add .avi support.

So for those of you that don't know me, or haven't seen, my Evo, long story short got stolen yesterday before my Calculus III class. So today my mom sent me my sister's blackberry curve for a temp, as its going to take between 7-10 days to get my replacement evo. Let me just say that going from my rooted phone that exudes awesomeness, that this blackberry is garbage...I hate the keyboard and so tiny...and I can only have ONE alarm. Seriously? [sad face]

Well I don't think I've committed anything worthy of forum greatness personally, but perhaps. They could have found, it but of course being me, my gps was off. Had a bad esn placed on it and temporarily deactivated it though.

Depending on the rom you use, some of the sense roms that are sense 2.0 based have a phone finder built in. Blackberry isn't bad, it's a business phone. It's not made to be flashy, it's just made to work. I don't like it since it doesn't fit my wants in a smartphone, but hey it does what it's made to do.

I completely agree, and that's exactly why I hate it; it doesn't fit what I need it to do in a smartphone. And I'm still kinda ticked that I can only have 1 alarm...and I have 2 different class times on m/w and t/th so changing it daily is a pain.
Yeah have found one that says it can remotely enable GPS and one stating that if off it can use network location. Guess I wasn't looking hard enough. That or it has been so long thought it wasn't likely. Damn, posts like these always get me thinking about having my phone stolen. Bummer.

I hear you man. i have one for work and am not a fan. it works perfectly with a corporate server and all that, but it's damn near worthless as a civilian phone.
I can relate. I have a curve that work gave me. A lot of my friends have BBM, so I end up typing on that and I HATE it. i don't bother correcting typos b/c there are way to many with my fingers hitting like 50 keys at once. Good to know about the new alarm thing. That was bugging me too.

They told me 7-10 days last Thursday. Consider yourself lucky to have the BB......I'm on a Samusung A940.
funny as blackberry os 6.0 is pretty awesome. i don't like blackberries much but my wife loves hers. she hates touchscreens. i even had to but her that new flip blackberry sprint has, she wanted nothing to do with an evo or android.

Throw a hybrid OS on it. Just download any BB OS, then go to C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion (RIM)...then extract the folder named "Java" and play around with the .cod modules.
I built hybrid OS's for years before I found Android.

Sucks you got your evo stolen I returned my evo I got from sprint by using my upgrade the other day, waiting for the one I bought from Ebay now But in the meantime I am using a Blackberry curve, I hate this thing! For one its boring, the keypad is tiny, no angry birds, lol. I tried to make my wife take it, that only lasted on day though, lol. She calls it a blueberry and has been walking around the house saying "no evo no evo", now my kids have joined her! grrrrrr Hurry up mailman! I feel your pain
I have a 13 year old daughter, I offered to buy her the shift for an upgrade, she said shes just fine with her BB curve

I lost my rooted Aria with Froyo 2.2 and all the good stuff on it. What i got as replacement from insurance already has android 2.2.2 installed. Can u imagine how painful it is? i m keeping an eye on this thread and this webpage.. If anybody has any other news or any means by which i could get rid of at&t bloatware and to be able to install 3rd party apps, i would greatly appreciate that..
Well you can follow this link they have found a way to install 3rd party apps on unrooted phones. hope it helps till the s-off comes our way.

Haven't had the chance to get to radio shack. I did call them up and asked them to hold one for me. Even though my new Aria is on 2.2.2 and I am stuck with an un-rooted sense, it's less painful being able to use the trick to allow installing apps from unknown sources, so I still have some decisions to make---be cheap and go for the amazing deal of the $29 Inspire--or future-proof myself and wait for the SGS II.
i thnk the 29$ deal will work only if u r eligible for an upgrade.

That thing blows the iphone 4 away as far as specs go. Its screen is an inch bigger than the ip4, twice as much ram, and a dual core faster processor. And a much better camera. Sounds more like this phone is going to be direct competition to the sgs2 and iphone5.

This happened to me too I'm so sad. The microphone on my old aria decided to crap out and now I'm stuck with a refurb 2.2.2 aria. I hope someone can figure this out soon...
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as far as warranty goes. After having WM phones for a few years I got my Aria in Feb. Actually wanted a 4" phone but decided to get this (happy now that I did) and wait to see what comes out. Almost 30 days to the day I noticed that the antenna on the back cover was coming loose on one of the corners. This is after I was already rooted and flashed a couple different roms! So, I'm thinking the chances of getting a replacement back cover are slim to none and I'm going to end up with a phone that can't be rooted or have to live with possible antenna issues. I call AT&T, they have someone call me. After a couple phone conversations and an email update I get a new back cover in the mail a week later. Amazing!!! Maybe the fact that I've been with AT&T about 12 years helped!
Was wondering if we could get some of the top devs to chime in on what is the next device they are going to move on to now that the Evo has gotten a little long on the tooth. I'm on the fence on what my next phone is gonna be. Evo 3D or Galaxy S II. I'm partial to the GS II. The specs sound incredible but don't want to get it & have no Dev support. Case in point, the Epic. I've heard from Myn personally & he's on board with the 3D & I've heard through the grapevine that Aamikam is too. So what about Calkulin, toastcfh, flipzmode, ViRuS, netarchy, and others. Sorry if I left anyone out but those are off the top of my head.

Personally I say get whatever phone makes you happy; I don't buy my phone's based on which "dev" is getting it, I get it because that's what I want lol. For every device there's usually great devs.....except the epic....its like a red head step child no one likes it.

Well I my upgrade came June 4th so I can grab the 3D on the 24th or wait for the Within whenever it get released. I'm trying to narrow it down because last year I bought the Evo on release date and purchased the Epic a few months for my second line. I walked around with both for months but rarely used the Epic. It was an alright phone, and spec wise it was better than the Evo but the devs are what really made the Evo for me. That and the fact that I despise TouchWiz with all of my being. Finally got rid of that second line and trying to make a good decision. Want to get the Evo but pound for pound the GS II is the champ. To me the dev support is gonna be the final decision maker. I'm a flash-a-holic and I need my fix for new and different roms.

Definitely interested in the gs2 as well! Im not liking that Motorola phone I can't stand its design.....

Lighter, better processor, better camera, better screen.
Hardware is definitely better but software doesn't compliment it
Gimme a couple a days to come up with a new sig that is cool.

I will never own a Motorola android based phone. Phone looks ugly as heck anyways.

I know I see this a lot. I don't brag or anything; I'm just saying. Hardware is better. That's a fact. Get over it. Look at all of the reviews and see what they say. I am 99% still gonna get evo 3d

Well since our phones are almost antiques now I thought I'd start this thread for all those upgrading to say their goodbyes instead of 1000 different threads popping up and me closing them.

As soon as I can afford it, I'm jumping to the G Note II. Gonna miss the Evo forums, when it happens, but until then, I'm still gonna run the hell out of this phone

I so want to g note 2 but 300 is alot to drop on a phone even for an upgrade. I think im gonna grab the sgs3 for 50 on black friday
Got my SGS3 2 weeks ago and am in love with it. Finally found a phone that was worthy enough to retire the old evo hopefully get some smurfmod love if you get your sgs3

Well guys,looks like ill be the last one here,ill shut off the lights and lock the doors on my way out.Im not up for an upgrade until sept.2013,im wanting to get the note 2,but by the time that gets here,there will probably be a better phone.

I thought about it for awhile, since Wirefly has had it for 100 bucks, and it;s a sweet phone, but I know I'll always wish I had waited a little longer for the G Note II

Yep S GS4, Note III, probably by then, another new Nexus, etc....
You'll have a lot to choose from
my sprint contract was up last month, i am considering the new Nexus 4 on t-mobile....but no LTE...just HSPA+ ...i am in the milwaukee area, does anyone have any experience with HSPA+ on tmobile? anything has to be an upgrade from my evo, as sprint in milwaukee never had wimax and who knows when they are going to rollout LTE ....i will not get ATT and i dont want to go with verizon, so t mobile seems like a good option....
any opinions out there? thanks in advance

sorry...it is goodbye to the evo....but i guess i did harp a bit about sprint.... either way, i am glad to get the nexus and i am going to miss the evo for sure, but it is time...

Its worth it :thumbup: i will be officially retiring my evo at the end of the month. I just upgraded my main line to the gs3 10 mins ago and getting the note2 dec 1. My dad just bought one off contract and gave me the gs3 so I can use my upgrade on a note2 in December. That is one bad phone, its fast has a bbs (big beautiful screen) and did i mention its fast like 0 lag when multitasking in dual screen mode. Definitely worth the upgrade especially coming from the evo you wont be disappointed

I'm sure I am not alone in saying that my Evo is serving its purpose as a wifi music player. I keep mine at work with the latest stock rooted ROM. I still love Sense, if it were GSM I would probably swap it with my Nexus S 4G every now and then.
Good bye, I have the Note 2 now. I loved my EVO though and although the screen is cracked I don't want to rid myself of the thing. Sprint is offering me $38 worth of credit for it though so eventually I will mail it in.

Well i upgraded to the EVO 4G LTE on launch day. My OG EVO is still a boss (I let my friend have the phone). That thing runs as good as it did the day I bought it. Had to stay with the EVO brand just love the phones

I love my EVO and is sad that is going out like this and I can't upgrade yet since I got it last summer. I would love to use the GS3 but it will cost me an arm and a leg to get it now so is EVO OG till the very end! Hey, I don't feel bad about old phones, they still can perform. I have a bricked G1 that I might JTAG since no one here "knows" how to do it, but they gladly will get it out of my hands for free (really?) So I am not giving that one up and I would love to see it running Donut again. As far as this EVO, it might finish in my son or daughter's hand.
