Way to switch keyboard in landscape mode automatically? - Droid Incredible General

So I use swype in portrait mode, but it's abysmal in landscape mode, so I want to know if there's a way to make it automatically switch to the multi touch keyboard in landscape mode. I have root, but I'm not sure if it's necessary or even possible. Anyone have any input?
edit: fixed some capitalization/punctuation

this would be awesome.

You'd probably need a program or to write a script to detect which orientation the phone is in, and then change the keyboard that should be used based on the orientation.

This + using the optical "joystick" to wake the phone would be the two best functional things in my opinion.

To wake the phone up with the joystick is in your settings, saw a post on this 2 days ago.

I believe that's only if you have a certain rom flashed, but I'm not positive

How to switch back screen to "vertical" automatically ?

Hello,
I'd like to use my Ameo with "vertical" screen when I'm travelling and horizontal when Keyboard is attached in the office.
However, I have to switch back to vertical always manually once the keyboard was attached.
Is there a possibility to have the screen automatically always vertical without keyboard and horizontal when keyboard is attached ?
Dieter
Im looking for a similar functionaltiy.
Me to, this would be so useful.
you don't have to do it automatically, it is easy to switch the comm manager physical button to the rotate screen functionality- every time you touch the button the screen rotates - fantastic
i think the point was though that we use the device in portrait and only when we attach the keyboard it flips, and in a ideal world when we remove the keybaord we wanted it to go back to portrait as that is what we always use. pressing a button is easy but not quite prefect.
As an alternative to using the physical button (4 modes of rotation, the original only has 3 modes):

What does this CAB do? Would you mind posting a screenshot if possible?
Basically it's a screen rotator (just like the one that comes built-in with our Athena). The difference is that you have a better control of setting its behaviour through the Settings tab).
With the built-in rotator, I have to tap it twice to revert back to my potrait orientation from landscape. With this, I only has to tap it once (set it to Clockwise).

or you can just use iLuncher, it does exactly the same, it's a built in shortcut for iLuncher. one click for rotate, and one click to rotate back.
AWESOME! and thanks.

Thanks for the utility. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for...well not exactly, would be nice if it would go to Portrait when the keyboard is detached and back when it's reattached...but after further consideration it would be annoying if it did it automatically because i don't always want this to happen. Took me a little while to find the 'Advanced/Icon Settings' area...lack of sleep. I was looking for something that would go between Portrait and Landscape without rotating all the way around. I've set it up for "Right or Portrait" and this is exactly what I wanted, a type of toggle between the two modes. Thanks for posting this for us.
I'm lousy at explaining the way thing works. But I'm very happy to know you understand after trying the program yourself. A little apps with big function for people who like to switch back to potrait orientation.

you're my hero. thx.
i've been looking all over the net to find out how to get screen rotate into my advantages' taskbar (nothing worked, no tweaks, nothing).
works perfectly now. thx so much.
the thing that would make my taskbar perfect is a way to get the battery symbol INCLUDING link to the battery settings in it.
anyone an idea? i tried several tweaks, one worked but only showed the icon without any link. the others didn't work at all, dunno why.
You can tie this to a hardware button
This has been used on this forum for over 2 years. Someone may find it useful. Not "automatic" like asked for.
Install the cab file from your device and go into settings and set as one of the start menu items and 2 clicks give you a rotation and back, not round in circles like stock.
When you bind to a hardware button, one click rotates, another returns

Thanks. At last I can assign screen rotation to my hardware button. Good one to accompany the one I uploaded.

bug report...
Found a bug. On my Advantage, the camera stopped working in Landscape mode. May or may not be attributed to the screen rotate cab. A simple fix is to go to Portrait mode and start the camera from there. It could also be related to the VGA software but not sure. I'm glad I found a quick and easy work around because I didn't feel like hard resetting yet again.
Update: Found a work around. I wasn't going to hard reset. While playing around I noticed that if I switched to portrait mode and opened the camera, it would come up properly. Just won't do it if I try to open the camera while in landscape. Weird bug but I can live with it.

Did you assign screen rotation the the camera hardware button?

No rotate to the right?

I'm left handed and when I want to turn it landscape I turn the phone to the right but it doesnt rotate to the right It does rotates to the left..
Is something wrong with my phone or does this happen to everyone else
Think it only works one way. I'm left handed too and haven't noticed any particular need to turn it to the right.. I'm used to phones behaving that way I guess.
If you're lounging in a chair holding the phone at an angle you'll be glad that it doesn't suddenly rotate on you when you least expect it..
Yeah, i'm a southpaw. I would love if it rotated to the right and left.
anyone know if Open Home or any of the other home replacement apps supports rotate in all directions?
The Android OS doesn't support a rotate to the right, no home screen can change this.
Individual apps can support it (see bebbled) if they program for it, but it's a hack.

Motorola has it enabled by default on the CLIQ, not sure about droid.
It's very possible and should be part of the core.
Was playing with my friend's iPhone last night - it does it.
I too am a southpaw, would be nice. But I don't find it annoying or anything.

Froyo Supports Launcher and App Launcher landscape mode!

My launcher and app launcher have gone too landscape mode twice! Maybe the official froyo build might support it.
First Time (Launcher)
This happened like 2 weeks ago. I was on an app holding my phone in landscape. When I clicked home, my phone went crazy and switched the launcher from portrait to landscape like 3 times, until it stopped at landscape. But after click on an app and coming back it went back to normal.
Second Time (App Launcher)
This happened today! I was in english class and my friend asked to see my phone. After she played with it for 5 minutes, she was giving me the phone and at the same exact time she clicked the back button to exit the facebook app and I accidently clicked the volume down button. The phone vibrated and the app launcher was on landscape.
You don't understand how many times I tried repeating that process, but it didn't work.
The funny thing is when my phone went into landscape the first time, the widgets were FULLY supported!
So maybe the official froyo build might actually have the landscape option.
That would be awesome! It's one of those things that bothers me when I exit an application in landscape mode.
I somehow managed to get the lock screen to display in landscape! Accidentally pressed the power button twice when using the browser and rotating

This actually happened to me to! I just don't remember what I did lol.
I think thi also happend to me on 2.1. i think there is a landscape mode but disabled for phones without keyboard. think of a phone with a keyboard they have to go to landscape when you pull the keyboard out, or els it will look stupid
This has happened with the dock for me when going to the home screen after being docked in the car dock.

when in car dock, launcher, app drawer, and contact support landscape mode. It's an official feature.

Can you guys take a screenshot of that?
difficult to do that. It has to be in car dock and in car dock, you can't attach the USB cable. I am sometimes amazed that Google still doesn't have screenshot feature other than the debug mode one.
If you put your phone on the car dock (turns everything to portrait mode) and click "exit car mode" you will go to the home screen in portrait mode. If you lock the screen while on the car dock and after you exit the car mode, you will have a portrait lock screen.
I don't think that they will make it switch by default. IF anything they need to make it an option, I don't want portrait mode on my home screen.
Just use LauncherPro or any other home replacement which supports it.
I haven't had a use for it ever. Pretty pointless if your phone is not docked in landscape mode.

It looks stupid in phone without keyboards too when you're using an app in landscape and phone rings and everything is sideways all of a sudden. Or when you have to rotate the phone when switching between apps because the launcher won't rotate.
I don't know what they are thinking with this issue.

No HTC Sense landscape with keyboard closed

This really bugs me, why the hell does HTC Sense work fine in landscape with the keyboard open, but the second you close it it goes to portait, and you can't change it back?
What's the actual reason for this, is it just a bug?
I wouldn't count it as a bug, it's just how Sense was designed - the thinking is that if your keyboard is closed, you'd want to hold your phone in portrait mode (except for specific apps). I believe there are a few tweaks that you can do to keep accelerometer-based rotation on *everywhere* (as opposed to the current slide-status-based rotation).
It's not a bug but I agree that it'd be nice to be able to have Sense in landscape mode with keyboard closed.
I'm not into development stuff at all but would it be difficult to develop a small app that would either cheat by sending the information "keyboard is open" when the phone is turned in landscape position or by adding a 2nd condition for displaying the landscape mode (if accelerometer turned 90deg then display landscape mode)?

I think it can be made, but remember: if the device "thinks" the keyboard is opened, the softkeyboard is disabled. Then it should be configured to work only in the Sense laucher.

Yep you're right. I hadn't thought about that
In landscape mode if I refer to my personal use I'm more inclined to use the physical keyboard than the soft keyboard so I would anyway open the physical keyboard if I need to type something. But I don't know if other people have the same habit.
Mee too, If in landscape I always use the physical keyboard. The soft one uses a half of screen

[Q] Enable keyboard numpad

Hi,
I have a little problem that's occuring since a few days. When I installed W8, I did the little registery tweak to enable the keyboard numpad at the start of the PC (InitialKeyboardIndicators=2), and it worked just fine until a few days ago. Now, the numpad is disabled when the PC starts, and since I chose a 4 number password, it's pretty annoying.
Is there an other solution for this to work ?
Turn on full keyboard in PC setting, touch keyboard. It has dedicated number row. No reg tweak

Hmm, could be a little bit more explicit, I don't really see what you're talking about. =/

Charm Bar/PC settings/General/touch keyboard/ make standard keyboard available. Off by default, turn on.
Next time your keyboard opens you'll have another option to use.

I don't have such option, I'm on a desktop PC.
And actually, I figured out that it's only when I unplug the PC during the night that the numpad won't start. If I turn off my computer and turn it on later with the plug still in, the numpad will stay enabled.
