Childs play...

Ive been customizing my own roms ever since i got my first one. Its common sense. How many have i posted and put my name on? 0. It was not my work,so i would never try to take credit and put my name on a product that i had less than 1% participation in the creation of. If that was the case id have @ least 12 roms of MY titling. I honestly think its sad that ppl think they can name a rom,that:
1.)You cut and pasted. A 7yr old could do that.
2.)Is clearly less than 1% your own work,especailly offending the guys that do the REAL work to make our roms,Toast,Flipz,Gbhil and crew...
3.)Is free to anyone through AOSP,android open source project.
Give credit where due and dont rename your own version. If you cant cut and paste some files to customize* your rom,you shouldnt even be here. Doing something thats SIMPLE COMMON SENSE should not permit you to steal someone else's hard work and butcher it. Honestly WHERE WOULD ALL THESE WANNABE ROMS BE W/O ALL THE BIG DAWGS(Gbhil,Toast,Flipz,...etc)hard work and coding? Oh wait,they wouldnt have ANYTHING to add a stupid cheesy name to.

Hey, I wanted to bring a few things to your attention.
One, this is open source, I could do whatever I want with it. I could change the colour and release it for all I care.
Two, is it your concern?

No.I do not need it. BTW, thanks for your reply when i needed assistance the other day. Im not new. I run my own android website and i fix android devices in the forum. I dont like to flood threads here, i normally use this site for info and feedback on roms and root issues i cannot solve myself. I just really apprecaite ppl that can do things that i would like to be able to do and flashing new roms is a bit of fun for me, and w/o their work i wouldnt be able to do this stuff until i purchase my next device. Just giving props to the rightful owners....

Hello Moderators,
People are posting their roms here which are not doing what they are supposed to do, but the page where one dodwnloads the roms remains the same without any update on what is working and what is not.Can anything be done about it?

I think he is talking about the WIKI pages and if that is the case then to the OP you need to understand how this works
1. a dev posts a rom they cooked in a new thread
2. it is up to us as a community to update the WIKI not the moderators
if the rom is a popular one then it is going to stay at the top of the treads deal with it.
edit: nope you are right Tipharet I read it worng. rukshmani you need to deal with it and read the treads that these roms have before you flash them anyways becuase if you dont then you end up asking questions that have been asked 200 times before. please stop complaing about these great people taking time from their lives and families to make our experience better.

Well, just read through the posts and you will no what is working or not working. It really is as easy as that.

Updating the first post to a ROM release is the responsibility of the developer of that rom. Not the job of the moderators.
If you think a rom needs to have it's post updated, why don't you PM the developer yourself. If you were instead referring to the sticky-wiki for tracking roms, you aare as free to update/edit that as any one of us are.
Not, trying to sound rude, but it is difficult to understand what EXACTLY it is that you are asking for.

This is what this about. He downloaded DarchLegend and couldnt get his app2sd to work. And then started this thread. Although its clearly working for someone else.

seriously I try not to flame people but apps2sd is a perk on a rom not a requirement! stop trying to get a moderator involved because you dont want to do the work little bit of work that might need to be done to get something to work that YOU want.
if I didnt think it would get me susspended I would pull a page from gbhils book and post a rediculiously inapropriate image to get this thread closed down.

Developers cannot sit at their computers 24/7 watching to make sure every developer updates his OP timely... u have to realize two things. One these guys developing roms 99% of them have real world jobs and families which take 99% of their time. Two, this would take time away from the mods real job which is to warn and ban offenders of the forum rules. This is not part of a mod's day to day task. Now if a developer is posting bs roms that r bricking everyones' phones that have downloaded them then yes at that point a mod would have to get involved but that has never happened to my knowledge on this site. Sorry dude but just b/c everyone else on this forum has the same phone as u doesn't mean that it will accept new rom flashes/modifications the same as someone elses. Any slight variance is settings from urs to the next guys could plunder a rom flash attempt. Do ur homework before messing with ur phone. Tons of others have had no problems so obviously they did something right. Most of all every developer always puts " Not responsible for what happens to ur phone by flashing this software" It's completely ur risk.

i see link is not being updated.. and other link is being updated.. two links active and same rom download pages.. Maybe, he clicked one of those that is not being updated and got confused.

My theory still holds I think. People are so desperately wanting 2.1 ( not even really knowing why) and it seems to be making ppl irrational to say the least...lol

who knows... to a certain degree forums should be a priveledge not a right...
too bad we couldn't create a "pay for membership" forum where all the members control the other members, threads, guidelines, etc.
a self-moderating group of like minded people that understand the guidelines and follow them. if you could be banned with no refund, i'm sure people would be ready to follow rules, not give opinions where none were asked for or any of the other atrocities i've seen on this site since i joined just a few weeks ago.
i sometimes wonder why there aren't "etiquette moderators" that enforce common forum etiquette. i find that too often one wrong post can start 6 pages of useless banter eventually rendering the thread a personal vendetta against one person, vs the etiquette moderator simply dealing with the issue and not allowing good threads to go to thread hell.

My opinion, Android is just so seemless and appealing to everyone, not just tweakers. So what we are seeing is more folks that havent been in forums like these and understand what is right and wrong. When little petey goes to the sprint store and sees the TP2 with winmo, plays with it and says "This is just to hard for me." he then picks up the Hero and says "Wow, this phone is more asthetically appealing and much easier to use.". Hence why we now have to deal with a much lower intellect of members because quite simply, Android is a great OS.

Remap Search Sofkey to Camera

This should work on ANY rom
This remaps a longpress on the search softkey to the camera. aka....a long press on the search softkey will pull up the camera.

And people like you are reasons why other devs dont like to help us out. Give credit, and most of the time, they allow. I used 5 diff devs stuff in my release. Got permission from all of them. They said, thanks for asking. Thats all it takes. Its called respect. And working together.
EDIT: XDA must have thought he was bad since they banned him, but he is now back again.

alright look, im not fighting for him only stating that this is a forum dedicated to doing things your told you can't, correct? i don't agree with the fact that hes not giving credit to other devs or posting links back to original files. trust me i understand how having things stolen feels. but in his defense mabey speaking with him instead of accusing might be a good idea. Apple is suing GOOGLE for stealing ideas. honestly our phones seem to have been built around stolen ideas,

Thanks for giving credit to decadeance. Just FYI for anyone else that might be wondering, using the work of others without giving due credit IS against the rules of XDA-Developers.
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.

Since this was resolved in a matter of which did not require a moderators attention then no warnings will be issued since it seems to have been an honest mistake. It is true that this is OPEN SOURCE however that does not mean that you can claim rights to another developers work. We are striving to aid others in achieving more with the community but a house divided against itself cannot stand. Work together, treat each other with respect, resolve issues/problems/differences via private messages whenever possible to keep the forum from getting out of hand and always remember to follow the rules.

Actually... the OP's account was disabled until further notice because enough compelling evidence was recently discovered to prove that he was "guilty" and because the fact that he is a repeat offender we had no choice but to take the necessary actions.

This is not necessary, people that try ur rom will always post feedback in the thread, it's how everyone learns and the community grows. Not flaming, u made a rom something I can't do, but u don't need this thread.

Yeah just relax man, people will definitely try it. Give it time, people have work, families, and other priorities and don't have time to switch ROM's 24/7...even if it's tempting! I'll give it a shot too if I have time. But works been super crazy so we'll see. But don't double thread.. you don't want to clog up the forum

I check d/l on megaupload every 5minutes. This may be paranoid, but
I just want.to know if peoplelike my rom, as it was my contribution to the community

I tried for a short bit. No FCs but as has been pointed out without the GPS, camera, etc not much point. Using Quadrant it was okay, about like most of the other 2.2 stuff. A positive note is that it worked well with the overclocking stuff.
I can only imagine how much time it took to construct so thanks for that - but you'll need to catch up with some of the other devs.
Again, thanks for the efforts.

I see things have started to cool off in the actual rom thread, this essentially just adds another needless thread to the forum. Mods please delete this.

Just the fact that you even acknowledge this person as potentially being you screams that you are him. You did the exact same thing in the last three threads that you made on three different accounts trying to fool people. You also are the only person on this forum who I've seen that speaks as if they're a little kid. Why are you trying so desperately hard to fit in? If you're not good enough then you're not good enough. Leave it at that. Clogging up the forums with your terrible attempts at making ROMs isn't helping anyone.

To the OP, seriously man, just give up on this. You can't just take someone elses rom +/- apks to it and call it your rom. i guess this happened alot with Moto Droid too. People would just through together a bunch of other peoples work and call it their rom, but they did credit the devs of those apks that were used.
Its good that you are experimenting with stuff but you don't have to release stuff to the public. Keep it to yourself to enjoy. Releasing someone elses modified work and then waiting on them to fix stuff isnt the way to go. It seems you want to get complimented for doing work and releasing something, but it just hurts your rep more the way you are doing things.

Can we get this thread deleted. What kind of 2 year old makes two threads moments apart.

I don't think you should call it YOUR ROM, considering close to 0% of it is your original work.

i did post a comment on your thread asking you to pm me but you never did and i got impatient and hyped up about things and i just rushed things and posted finished stable builds of your rom without your permission thinking things would be okay if i emphisized 3x on the thread i didn't do anything but finish your rom all credit goes to you for all other work. but again i went about things the wrong way i wasn't trying to take full credit for your rom i thought i made that clear in the first post but i guess saying it 3x still isn't the right way to go about things, glad to see we're working things out (btw everyone check out the title of his thread now ) for the better now bro! so i'd like to say this publicly, SORRY FOR USING YOUR ROM WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION LIQUID! If you really want to be "omg super-hero dev", you need to start earning your fellow dev's respect, and right now, that's not working out for you.
If you're still interested in being credited for this, PM me with the download links, I'll check them out, and if they are ok, I'll put it in my original 2.1.1 thread with full credit to you. That's how it works.

no i asked to take down jasonmaloney's build and my build (two seperate things) b/c we both posted our build's on liquid's thread without his permission.....which was a big no no....but i made things worse by making a seperate thread....again sorry liquid. so there was no need to credit jasonmaloney, laie i know i messed up big time smh stupid move on my part

i said in my rom's thread that it was based of nfx rom and i gave him credit, i said what i did. i didn't do what i did with liquid's rom, two completely different things... il Duce ik i screwed up with this rom and again i won't be making any mess ups like this again (me = thinking before my actions from now on xda) sorry

My rom (I say that very loosely) is based on nfx, but only with full permission from nfinite and on popular request. Even further I credited (with permission ) anyone who helped in testing or debugging, and that is the proper thing to do.

Which means that it is my task and my right to put up the final update to my own ROM, not have someone else do it without even letting me know beforehand or asking me, and then posting my exact thread over again instead of PMing me the link to add it in the OP, and then telling me after the fact.
Kifno has already got in touch with me and we're working it out, you guys can relax now.

again we talked things out and i'm sorry bro. and yes i may just be improving others work (the espreeso 2.1 rom i posted) and changing things, i never took full credit actually most of it goes to nfx b/c everyday i wake up he has a pm in my inbox helping me out with the espresso 2.1 rom, it wouldn't be where it is at without his help. only thing i can take full credit for is my build.prop's thats the only thing i actually did from my own work as for the espresso 2.1 rom that was from the help of many other members on this site, i never took full credit for that rom. i use the term my rom, when i refer to the espresso 2.1 rom, b/c i changed it, not b/c i developed it from scratch and did everything to it on my own, i'm not a super-dev yet lol. i'm just improving other's work and learning along the way and giving them credit and asking permission along the way from now on until i know enough to make something of my own again (besides text files lol) that will be of great help to the community....but for now i'm focuses on improving my rom (AGAIN IT ISN'T COMPLETELY MY ROM MANY OTHERS HELPED ME ALONG THE WAY) and helping others with their work for the hero and problems....first person on the list....liquid!!!!!! (we're pming each other now folks working this out for the better so its alright)

You know what man, you're a smark kid, you just take things a bit fast.
You'll grow to understand what it means to command respect here, and I'm sure you'll earn it from everyone. This place is bursting with ideas and creativity, but just PM ROM devs in the future. Every ROM dev needs help, there's no denying that. Sometimes the help you have to offer isn't enough or isn't to their preference, but there's never any harm in PMing to find out.
As far as my ROM goes, with your help, we'll finish this up and finally put an end to all this over exaggerated madness.

Wow man great job kifno. It's tough to own up in the face of so many people watching this, you're really just a good person beyond the scope of these forums. I'm proud to call you a fellow human being. I've been watching this escalate and deescalate and I must say it's been a roller coaster ride. I must say some people have been a bit harsher than they should have, but it's understandable when looked at from a different perspective. Kudos to you again.
