Anyone know how I can change the default file settings for the Camcorder from 3gp to avi? Or what is the best file format to use to allow compatibility when sending the files to other phones (Nokia's etc.)
cheers

I have recorded something (video in mp4) with my XDAII and then copy this file to my PC, then I tried to play it with QuickTime and I could only see but not hear...
Can somebody please help me to solve this problem?
change the Capture format to: Motion-JPEG AVI, it's standard set to mpeg4. This will play in mediaplayer.
Where?: Tap lon the cam button -> Tap Tool Icon -> Tap Under Left the Tools Button -> select Options -> Select Capture format: Motion-JPEG AVI -> press OK -> Done!!
Try this out.... it worked for me like a dream

Hi,
How is it possible to convert with a good quality a MP4 file to AVI or MPEG1. I have try with Quicktime Pro but the video quality of the final AVI file is verry poor.
I would like to use my movies files with "Movie maker" or "Adobe premiere" but both of them can't read MP4.

patrick, mpegable.com no longer supports this - HELP
I went to mpegable.com to the link you specified and registered. a couple days later I go an email from them saying they no longer offer those downloads. Please advise, thanks.
I've always used Media Player Classic that's bundled with K-lite Mega Codec Pack, or you can also use VLC Media Player, these two players are the best multi format player so far. As for encoding videos, you can always try the free SUPER video encoder which is the best open source media converter http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
I've seen some information spreaded in the forums about video recording on Trinity, and had some troubles watching them on a desktop computers, so here is the results of my research, and the doubts i Still have:
Videos recorded on trinity with maximum quality CIF:
resolution:352x288
Framerate:15fps
container: MP4 (3GPP)
Video codec: MPEG4 (ASP)
Audio codec: AMR - NB (Narrowband)
To properly play videos on your desktop computer you need to install a directshow filter called MP4splitter.
-It is possible to convert video to AVI format (lossless) using mp4cam2avi, but it doesn't work with audio.
-The AMR format is not easy to edit or to transcode to other formats, and it's not possible to use as audio stream on a AVI container (not sure).
Questions
Is there a program to merge several mp4 together lossless (no re-encoding)?
Is it possible to set up another resolution to be used on the video (i.e. 640*480) as this is not a hardware limitation?
Is it possible to use another codec for the audio stream?
Is it possible to use another framerate?
- By editting registry I'm able to change framerate (HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Recparam)
Mediacoder
I use Mediacoder to convert many format of video (recorded on a dvd from TV...) on my htc : choose MP4 and use TCPMP to read it.
Video Conversion
Hi n0t,
Have a look at NCH Software - www.nch.com - and find a program called Prism Video Converter. It can be downloaded as a trial and expires after a while but long enough to try out. It works perfectly and is very simple to use. NCH has a wide selection of software, especially conversion from one format to another. Some programs are free but all are downloaded as trial versions.
Hope this helps
Adam

- MP4Box is a command line that does it, YAMB is a GUI that works fine with it (and it's free). It can split, join and extract streams from MP4 or 3GP container. This way it is possible to edit lossless the video streams.
-I want to be able to edit and apply some filters to the clips with virtualdub. To transcode the video stream to an avi container (lossless) I can use MP4Cam2Avi, Mediacoder, or Super. But I have to convert audio to PCM WAV to use it in virtualdub, as AMR can't be used in an AVI.
Stream Video
Is it possible to make a live video broadcast from trinity (not using videocall)?
This way with an internet connection, it would be possible to send a stream to a computer anywhere...
How can one change the default 3gp format recording to the mp4? I cannot find the setting on my X1i.
I don't believe it's possible, but there are a ton of free video converters out there that can convert on your computer. Probably even some WM versions that can do it on the phone.
Hi, I've recorded few clips in H.264 mode and I've had the surprise that I can't play it on the phone or on the PC, with any video player. Does anyone have a solution?
I also have this issue, not even coreplayer plays the files.
What did you use to record them?
What settings did you use while recording them?

Hi rp-x1,
I just used the default HTC camcorder app using the H.264 capture format in the options.
The PC seems to think they're in 3gp format though, the file size would suggest so also but still strange that Coreplayer can't play them.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I used the camera from my HTC HD2 in H.264 mode, CIF resolution. I attach one of the files.
Anyone can help?
i just tried the h.264 mode myself. then when i want to play it, the phone says "loading", but nothing happens. i downloaded your file, not even vlc can play the files.
also, gspot cannot recognize the codecs used:
Admittedly it was a long shot but I just tried to convert the supposed .3g2 file into a playable format with Oxelon Media Convertor but even with the .3g2 plugin the file was 'unsupported'.
My guess is that this isn't the actual format of the file and that I've lost all recordings in that format.
So, there is any solution? I've lost my clips recorded in this format?
I thought that at least the one who posted the soft to unlock aditional recording formats will find a solution.
Hello!
I have a rooted Nexus 7 device and able to record 720p video with help from this forum. The videos get saved in 3gp format. Is there an way to change the save format type by modifying the media_profiles.xml file or other means?
I want to try to save the video in uncompressed avi or other formats. I understand 3gp is a container for MP4 with H.264 codec
thanks!
