Hello!
I have a rooted Nexus 7 device and able to record 720p video with help from this forum. The videos get saved in 3gp format. Is there an way to change the save format type by modifying the media_profiles.xml file or other means?
I want to try to save the video in uncompressed avi or other formats. I understand 3gp is a container for MP4 with H.264 codec
thanks!

can i not just convert a video file to mp4 or the correct file type and play it through windows media that cam on the device?
Depends on what you are using to encode the video. The WMP may not have the decoder. Although, AVI movies all have the same *.avi, all AVI movies can be different, depending on what encoder you used to encode the video and the audio. Hence, not all player is able to play all AVI movies. I think it goes relatively the same to MP4 also.
Anyway, what format are you trying to convert. You can go Microsoft homepage and download their Windows Media encoder to encode your stuff into WMV format which should play nicely on your phone.
I have been using Xilisoft MP4 convertor, converting from .avi to .mp4
I will try out the Windows Media encoder and encode into WMV format.
Thanks for the info
converted ok but its not full screen when selected..! any ideas?
its ok sorted it out...!!!!!!!!!
I've seen some information spreaded in the forums about video recording on Trinity, and had some troubles watching them on a desktop computers, so here is the results of my research, and the doubts i Still have:
Videos recorded on trinity with maximum quality CIF:
resolution:352x288
Framerate:15fps
container: MP4 (3GPP)
Video codec: MPEG4 (ASP)
Audio codec: AMR - NB (Narrowband)
To properly play videos on your desktop computer you need to install a directshow filter called MP4splitter.
-It is possible to convert video to AVI format (lossless) using mp4cam2avi, but it doesn't work with audio.
-The AMR format is not easy to edit or to transcode to other formats, and it's not possible to use as audio stream on a AVI container (not sure).
Questions
Is there a program to merge several mp4 together lossless (no re-encoding)?
Is it possible to set up another resolution to be used on the video (i.e. 640*480) as this is not a hardware limitation?
Is it possible to use another codec for the audio stream?
Is it possible to use another framerate?
- By editting registry I'm able to change framerate (HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Recparam)
Mediacoder
I use Mediacoder to convert many format of video (recorded on a dvd from TV...) on my htc : choose MP4 and use TCPMP to read it.
Video Conversion
Hi n0t,
Have a look at NCH Software - www.nch.com - and find a program called Prism Video Converter. It can be downloaded as a trial and expires after a while but long enough to try out. It works perfectly and is very simple to use. NCH has a wide selection of software, especially conversion from one format to another. Some programs are free but all are downloaded as trial versions.
Hope this helps
Adam

- MP4Box is a command line that does it, YAMB is a GUI that works fine with it (and it's free). It can split, join and extract streams from MP4 or 3GP container. This way it is possible to edit lossless the video streams.
-I want to be able to edit and apply some filters to the clips with virtualdub. To transcode the video stream to an avi container (lossless) I can use MP4Cam2Avi, Mediacoder, or Super. But I have to convert audio to PCM WAV to use it in virtualdub, as AMR can't be used in an AVI.
Stream Video
Is it possible to make a live video broadcast from trinity (not using videocall)?
This way with an internet connection, it would be possible to send a stream to a computer anywhere...
I have an app to watch my ip camera jpeg stream.
I would like to write this streaming in a mp4 video file. Is this possible?
Or can I convert avi video file to mp4 using Android?
Thank you.
How do I make camcorder record in mp4 format?
I noticed that some of my videos on some roms recorded in mp4 format while other roms recorded in 3gp format.
Does it depend on the rom or kernel im using? And is there any tweaks that can be applied to my Syndicate 1.2 to make it record in mp4 format?
Im making a dvd and there is not too many good programs that 3gp friendly and besides 3gp is inferior format.
Another question:I remember having option in galery or youtube app to upload a video to youtube,im on Syndicate and there is no such option anywhere.I did remove few apk's from /system/app folder anyone know what apk's are responsible for youtube uploads or Syndicate dont support it?
Thanx in advance.
Can I do a modification to enable it after it's rooted?
I tried to play .wmv files with floor model but I have no luck.
I have a lot of ripped DVDs in .mp4 (480p) format, but I also have several .wmv files downloaded. The size will drastically increase if I re-encode to .mp4 without degrading quality.
i think its in /etc/media_profiles.xml in bottom of file, change to "yes" and save back.
remember to have system r/w
MKV
You can attempt to convert the files to MKV.
The system by default does not play back this file source but there is a player called Mobo Player available on the market.
I have done a few mp4 720p conversions to mkv 720p and I am pleased to say they worked while not being to to big (average size is 1-2gigs per 1.5hrs)
I have read reports that Diceplayer handles mkv files. You might want to give that a try.
