wanna BREAK my F#$*ing EVO!! - EVO 4G General

after ROOTing with TOAST and unrevoked i keep having this constant random SD card failure.sometimes ASTRO file doesnt read anything and sometimes it just crashes.even rebooting doesnt help.i have a STOCK rom as of now.its getting really irritating and fraustating for me so PLEASE any suggestion and help would consider genorosity.

This was an issue when the EVOs were first released and it was addressed in the first OTA update.
If you're indeed running stock now go to settings > System Updates > HTC software update and see if there is anything waiting for you there.

if i update software wouldn't that break my root or brick my phone?

Would break root.
Just back up your sdcard to your pc and format it, that should work

I broke my screen today, so you could just send me your evo and you can take mine and we will call it good?

i haven't had a single problem with my card, but i'm not using the stock card, either. try a larger class 6 card, see if that helps. you can get them for about 45 bucks for a 16gb card

I had the same problem. I bought 2 evo's on launch day day, one for the wife and one for me. Hers worked fine, mine kept giving me problems even after the first update. It wound up that the sd card was somewhat damaged. I tried reformatting it several times with many different methods but it still didn't help. It just kept getting progressively worse, causing random reboots, constantly saying the card was damaged, eventually it caused my phone to freeze and restart in a loop. I replaced the card with one I had in my g1 from adata and now it works great. Just a bad card I guess.

flash with the OTA update and ull be set!

thanx guys I backed up all my files and switched to a new 16gb SD HC.so far so good, hopefully no more frustrations.thank u
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I fixed mine by doing a full reformat of the SD card, and making sure it was seated well in the phone. Pulled it out, and put it back in. Worked fine and probably still does (I'm using a Class 6, 16GB card now)

There are plenty of reasons i want to break my F***ing Evo but c'mon, an sdcard?

The root method you used... well, it contains an OLD rooted ROM.
Make sure you flash the OTA rom.
That's why. The old version had SD card problems.
I had this problem too. It was annoying.

the reason is because i have lotta snes roms, videos, pics, wallpaper and third party apps in the SD card.i spent most of the time at work playing movies or snes or other stuff that r in the SD,so yea its pretty important to me for the device to read the Sd card.
hopefully no problems anymore on the new 16GB SD i jus put in.

just to clarify dont do the actually ova update that we have now, just get the rooted rom with the update added

Rooting Xperia Play ISSUE

Hi i just bought like 2 hours ago an xperia play, i used the gingerbreak app to root my device but after 30 minutes or so the phone turned off then i saw that i had the superuser app but when i tried to use the titanium thing it says im not rooted....i did it like 4 times and nothing, can anybody help me, bootloader locked and r800i model, tnx
UPDATE: I hitnk i found the problem, i had to install busybox from market and now works fine!!! tnx to me xD
I havn't been able to get gingerbreak to work. I've let gingerbreak run for upwards of 45 minutes. How long did it take for you to get it to root?

I had this problem, tried a different MicroSD card, started Gingerbreak, waited about 5 minutes, the phone rebooted and it was rooted.
Note: Some people are saying that using Gingerbreak wipes all the data off your MicroSD card (even though it didn't happen to me). Just a heads up.
plus you also need to have busybox installed for titanium backup to do anything and it doesnt wipe anything from the sd card either

Try formatting the sd card in your computer then pop it back in and try gingerbreak again it took me like 4 or 5 times before it finally worked perfect

yeah well i had to root it like 5 times even my xplay was frozen twice and some other issues i though like twice thta my phone was bricked but well now is rooted had to pull battery a couple of times too. 1of my tries to root took more than 1hour, amazing

I don't have an SD card slot on my pc. are there any utilities for android (preferably gui driven in the market) for formatting an sd card on the phone?
Edit: Formatted it in CWM on my Captivate
So I am trying gingerbreak and I am now on to trying 2nd SD card. One thing I have noticed is that as soon as I press root it unmount's the SD card. Both SD's were formatted before trying.
I guess what I am asking is the unmount a normal thing that should happen when running the app? or should I put the formatted SD card in and not mount it?
Can't root my R800x vzw xplay using gingerbreak. shipping 2.3.2 android version the phone shipped with. Looks like big red outsmarted us for now...
i cant get it to work either..... 2.3.2 version..... i already formmated the SD card on the PC. i've waited like 20 minutes.... i see alot of people getting this to work but i cant. Should the phone be connected to the PC for the Debugging mode?

Verizon??? If it is, you won't get root this way.

Nope.... its not verizon =/
Well then do not let me discourage you. Best of luck and all that. Also, try turning off/on wifi. I remember reading some posts saying it worked better with that off/on . Not sure why or how it would affect it, but definitely worth the shot.
Gingerbreak doesnt work with 2.3.3 so only use it for 2.3.2.
It does work but you will have to be very patient.
I left mine running and returned every hour, it took around 3 hours for mine to root.
Leave it overnight and it will work.
Dont forget to install busybox after rooting. You can do this from the titanium menu. (if memory serves me correctly)
i will try the wifi thing.... Thanks!
3 Hours? thats ALOT of time lol
Ok, dsswosh is right!! Its just about time!!! 55 mins and root is DONE!!! It may take alot of time but it defenitly WORKS!!! I repeat.... 55 MINUTES!!!
Lol, it takes less time to actually unlock the BL's, download CM7 or kanzone's img and flash any of those than rooting with Gingerbreak.
But that voids the warranty, right?
Yes it voids the warranty unlocking the bootloader, and if you try to to update your phone to 2.3.3 via the official Sony ways you will also brick your phone. It's not a "might" brick your phone, it's a "WILL" brick your phone.
I will say this and some people here might want to read this - 2.3.3 UN-ROOTED works better than 2.3.2 ROOTED. The phone is faster, the battery lasts longer. The only downside is you obviously cant remove your bloatware, and some Gameloft games do not seem to work on 2.3.3
For this reason i have left my phone UN-ROOTED and am using 2.3.3. I am very happy with the performance. Games are alot smoother than a rooted 2.3.2.
Keep that in mind.

[Q] Phone Boot problem, won't mound SD

Sorry about the post as this may not be the best place for it.
My phone got low on memory so was trying to clear stuff, it rebooted then on the loading screen (Myn RLS 5) perpetually restarted. So went into recovery
and tried to do a backup (so could format as my last backup was old) and it threw an error in mid -backup (did write it down, doh!!)
Now the phone does the 5 vibration thing and does boot. Also SD won't mount get " /dev/block/mmcblk0p1" error. Also I now notice the phone reset to "S-on" I had a long time ago rooted with unRevoked Forever.
I have read several posts about this , but confused on the best way (instructions) to get a img file on and reinstalled. I have used adb before but only basically , unfortunately my computer at work doesn't have adb installed so cannot test things now.
So if anyone has a good one or two methods for me to try tonight, would be much appreciated. Also totally surprised that security went to "on" so probably have to address that first.
Oh phone is EVO, HBOOT 0.93 , Radio 2.15.00.05.02 . If I should post this somewhere please feel free to direct me there.
EDIT: I have ClockworkMod Recovery 2.6.01 installed and can get into it.
Thanks so much.
Kevin
First I woud try the sd card fix found here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243&highlight=sd+card+won't+mount Then I would downgrade your radio to 2.15.00.11.19 using a flashable pc36.img file. All radio versions can be found in the development section. If the first 2 steps are successful, run a 3.70 ruu(can also be found in development). If that is successful, reroot using unrevoked forever and you should be good to go.I' not sure if the radio downgrade will work with s-on,but I think if you use the flashable pc36.img version it will go thru,if it doesn't,you can still try the 3.70 ruu.I ran into some incompatability issues with trying to run the 2.15.00.5.02 radio with older software and hboot versions.
@BrianBusby2038,
Thanks for the post, good information I will give it a try. Interestingly the phone did eventually boot into Myn for a few minutes before the 5 vibrations of death started again.
So looked and it def. doesn't see the SD. So hopefully can recover.
I am wondering if the AData SD card I have is not reliable. Thankfully have the original 8GB card so hopefully can get things going again.
Anybody have a good recommendation for a 16GB microSD that is fast (buying from Newegg) ?
thanks again
No problem, hope it works out ok.

I had this same problem a few days ago and I had to get a replacement ordered (a 2.3 preloaded replacement ). Make sure that your USB is still working, because both my SD card and USB stopped working, S-ON went on, and the five vibrations/green light shut down problem happened. I was able to get S-Card operational, but USB was no go. I could not log in as super user and could not enter the commands necessary to fix usb. No USB = No root = no fix for USB. Now I'm stuck with a 2.3 evo, at least its shiny and new .
Hope you fix yours, I wonder how this problem has happened to so many of us randomly. PS: when you take it to sprint store, don't complicate matters and revert to stock.
Crude, fastboot on PC throwing driver error, how do I tell if the right driver is installed.
This is really sucking, Ive only ever installed one driver and could connect with adb.
So not sure what to do.
EDIT: says can't start because AdbWinApi.dll is missing
@robertsaurus,
not sure how I could go to stock if I cant re-image. Yeah definitely don't want to make a fuss, ugh
I lost clockwork mod and ended up only being able to access default Android recovery menu. I think an option on there will restore the factory Rom and make it look like it was never rooted. I know people have been able to fix theirs but I gave up after a days worth of trying
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well I had partial success. I restored a signed Sprint Rom, but phone keeps rebooting and USB doesn't work. the 5 vibrations seemed to have gone away. Though since I can get usb to work I can't do a RUU install and remove clockwork.
I did talk to Sprint and they are willing to early upgrade me and buy the EVO back for 125 so long as it boots and it does .
So going to give that a whirl , I have 30 days so may give a few other things on the evo a try before I return. Doing the upgrade I just lose out on some of the rooting so we'll see how that impacts me.
I had the exact issue. I think if you do a wipe from the boot menu (power and vol down) it will get rid of it all. And then take it to sprint and play dumb . Worked for me, new shiny evo lol
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
yeah I played dumb, but since it was out of warranty 1month and 10 days. they wouldn't replace . But at least get upgrade and buy back on the EVO which is not bad.
Though I am over the next couple of days try and get the EVO rescued, so long its still bootable I can take advantage of the buyback

Interestingly I could get the 5 vibrations thing to go away if I applied unrevoked forever s-on. the phone will still reboot and usb not functioning yet. Going to try and get a shell script running to fix usb , or try and do a re-rooting via the auto root, maybe hboot usb will work (fastboot did)
I did get the photon (we'll see how it works, though miss my rooting and evo)
so if like hopefully they will unlock the bootloader.

Need advice or this will be the end of the road ...

Hey all this is a very serious thread... before i start i better state that this is very likely a hardware problem... here goes!
ok my phone is refusing to mount my sdcard. Im no noob so i tried everything i could think of before i post this. I already cleaned the mount points on the phone and made sure the clip is tight so the sdcard does not "slide" about and mess with the connection. I also checked that the sdcard is fine, used a pc to access it and i also used my bros gt540 too. I tried using another sdcard on my phone but to no success. Recovery also does not detect it (install from zip and mounting it from the mount menu)
My guess would be LG service? But even so i would not, warranty ended awhile back and my father has already spent enough on it. I was planning to use it as my secondary phone in the near future but i guess not. Why? What good is a android phone without a sdcard? Cant do much with internal memory. Im now only able to use fastboot for flashing and modding... god dammit... Open to advice and tips you guys might have.

try changing the rom to something more stable and fully fixed!

I heard that there is a flexy cable connected to board from sdcard unit. May be it just unplugged. I think you can open the case. There are a lot of tutorial of opening the case. So you should try it man

Lol, u should try flashing KDZ, I've many times and never bricked (idk how bricked it becomes) so dar I've been stuck on kernel panic about 5 times!
Another thing u could do is make an SD repair trough your PC… a month ago I got another SD, and had to format it many times cause it didn't work… then I notice the card Reader was blocked (the Lil blister switch) and yet, after switching it, didn't work… so just Re installed the rom and also fixed the SD card trough PC, and voilá, it's fixed!…
U should try Kdz. Its not that bad xd

[Q] Upgrading to CM 7.2 RC

Hi all,
I just had a question about upgrading to CM 7.2RC. I am currently running the stable version of CM 7.1. It has been awhile since I changed out the rom. Did I have to do a full wipe of the device before upgrading to the RC? Or can I just wipe the cache and install the update so it maintains everything else on the device.
Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ok, but what do I do if I'm running off a bootable SD card? I was told to just copy the new rom to my F boot, then boot into recovery. I have done this over and over again with no success. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. if I'm supposed to copy the rom to a specific partition, then Im screwed because I don't know how to do that.lol. You are probably not renaming the zip to begin with update-. You must do that before the installation script will recognize it.
Sent from my Nook Color running ICS and Tapatalk
Yes I have renamed it. it was cm-7.2 and I changed it to update-cm-7.2 but still nothing. here's the thing, when I try to format this card on my PC, its saying its write protected, and to switch it off. I assume it means the lock switch on the sd card adapter. If thats the case, something is screwed up, because its not locked. I don't think its my adapter cause its not saying that with other cards. When I copy the cm7.2 it says its copying just fine and I can see it on the card but if I take it out and put it back in, its not there. Sorry for the pain in the butt question, and thank you for your time.

I had the same thing happen to one of my sdcards. I could not format it, or write things to it. I could read it fine, just not change anything. I tried all kinds of readers and software (formatters, partitioners, etc.) It would look like it wrote to it, but take it out of PC and put it back, it was not there. I finally had to throw it away and get a new one. This all happened on my phone, not my nook.

[Q] Help getting MT4G ready for sale

Hi all, former MT4G user here, moved on a bit ago...but decided to sell my old MT4G since it's just sitting around...stupidly did a factory reset, totally having a duh moment and forgetting all the root stuff, and now it's stuck at a glimmer "Android" screen, not going anywhere...
It's been a while since I rooted, can you pls. help/remind me what I need to do to get it working again? Flash a new ROM I'm guessing, since I must have wiped the one that was on there (it was a Sense ROM). Ideally since I'm selling it, I'd love to get it back to 'stock.'
Problem is, I'm not sure how to mount it to my computer now to load stuff on, since it's stuck booting...I guess I'll dig around and try to remember the whole rooting world, like I said it was like a year ago and I haven't played with it since...thanks for any help

Download one of the files from this thread, verify md5, boot into hboot, phone will scan and ask to update, select yes and let it do its thing and you should be good to go.
I am not sure about other recoveries, but if you have clockwork, there is an option to mount sd card so you can transfer files, otherwise remove your sd card and use a card reader...

Thanks! Yeah after doing some searching I re-figured out how to get into bootloader mode (is that the same as hboot?), and from there to recovery. Now I just have to find the sd card which I apparently removed a while ago!
Thanks for the link too, will try it once I find an sd card.

Also - just looking at that link, so if I flash that PD15IMG file, it will revert the phone to stock gingerbread? That would be perfect.

Just wanted to update and say that I finally got around to doing it. Buyer brought his own sd card, as I couldn't find mine (fear I may have accidentally trashed it during a recent massive spring cleaning). Loaded the file on, went through hboot, phone booted up stock and ready to go.
