Hi all,
I just had a question about upgrading to CM 7.2RC. I am currently running the stable version of CM 7.1. It has been awhile since I changed out the rom. Did I have to do a full wipe of the device before upgrading to the RC? Or can I just wipe the cache and install the update so it maintains everything else on the device.
Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just do the second thing. No full wipe.
This thread down in the cyanogenMod forums shows you how to upgrade if you did not know how or want to gleam more information on this. Or for anyone else that is interested. http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/40698-installing-nightly-builds-and-new-71/
Ok, but what do I do if I'm running off a bootable SD card? I was told to just copy the new rom to my F boot, then boot into recovery. I have done this over and over again with no success. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. if I'm supposed to copy the rom to a specific partition, then Im screwed because I don't know how to do that.lol. By the way, till about 3 months ago I could count on one hand how many times I'd sat down at a computer. Got a nook color as a gift
,and have been in love ever since. I'm running cm7.1 stable, at 1200mhz. I've had to teach myself every step, every step of the way. So if I sound like a idiot, its because I know nothing about computers, but I am learning. Thank you for your patients

You are probably not renaming the zip to begin with update-. You must do that before the installation script will recognize it.
Sent from my Nook Color running ICS and Tapatalk
Yes I have renamed it. it was cm-7.2 and I changed it to update-cm-7.2 but still nothing. here's the thing, when I try to format this card on my PC, its saying its write protected, and to switch it off. I assume it means the lock switch on the sd card adapter. If thats the case, something is screwed up, because its not locked. I don't think its my adapter cause its not saying that with other cards. When I copy the cm7.2 it says its copying just fine and I can see it on the card but if I take it out and put it back in, its not there. Sorry for the pain in the butt question, and thank you for your time.

I had the same thing happen to one of my sdcards. I could not format it, or write things to it. I could read it fine, just not change anything. I tried all kinds of readers and software (formatters, partitioners, etc.) It would look like it wrote to it, but take it out of PC and put it back, it was not there. I finally had to throw it away and get a new one. This all happened on my phone, not my nook.

did what all my friends told me to do, who have the evo apparently a bad mistake. used unrevoked to root my evo, worked perfect. stoked!! downloaded titanium backup, backed up everything, worked great. still happy. went to install a rom (i guess) it told me i needed to change my kernel and had a link to the market for a kernel downloader. downloaded the app looked through bout five different kernels, all had good reviews and stable... downloaded the one with the most downloads (6700 or something). asked download? i said yes. asked flask now? i said yes. it said flash complete reboot coming... rebooted got to the HTC EVO 4G white screen sat there for bout 15 seconds and shut off tried to reboot again same thing. bout ten times in a row so i pulled the battery. did a hard reset didnt fix, did a wipe, didnt fix.... did not make a nandroid back up...oops
anyone know what i can do please help.. thank you
some people said i can download a new rom drag it to my sd card once the card is mounted to the computer. so i tried (3 different roms) and it will not let me drag it to the sd card folder once i put it on my desktop. how do i fix my phone???? lol
Are you dragging the ROM from computer to SD while in recovery?

no my phone will not boot up i just have the sd card mounted phone by my side off. i was told to drag the rom into sd card then reinstall into phone go to recovery mode and unzip the filed rom from the sd card through the phone using the volume buttons and lock button to select.
but it wll not let me drag the rom into the sd card to even get that far
Answer is to find another kernel (stock or otherwise) and put it on the SD Card. Then boot into Recovery and flash it.
Sounds like you may have loaded an ASOP kernel on a Sense Rom. What you are gonna need to do is pull out the SD Card and connect to your computer with a USB adapter so SD Card reader if you Laptop/PC has one. Download a SENSE Rom kernel and flash that in Recovery. If that doesn't work. put the phone back to stock and start over. Also, you might want to copy the Titanium Backup folder to your PC, just in case.
Post in the wrong section?
Install the correct kernel for my rom?
Give enough info so people can help me?
Ruin my phone by being a moron?
Not know how to use adb, fastboot or the bootloader because I rooted with a method that teaches me nothing about the phone?

i just got my htc hd2 cause someone stole my old one, on my old one, it was easy 2 put android on the sd, with my new hd2 no rom will work, it loads, but when android turns on it will lag, and apps crash and say force close, and the market wont work, i tried this and mcc's 4.5 and its the same thing happening, what should i do?
Have you tried a full wipe in clockwork and then installed? Do that as your first option and if that doesn't work then Task29, reflash MAGLDR/cLK then clockwork and then your ROM.
im noob, i dunno what clockwork is and how 2 do that? and i never used mgldr/clk on my old hd2, i just did a simple drag and drop onto my sd card, then flashed it, and it always worked fine, now when it works, theres always problems, also, do you know how i can reformat my sd card? ty for help, appriciate it!

If you don't know all that stuff... you should not be trying to root or ROM yet. Go check out T-Macgnolia's post. You shoulld really read up on it before you monkey around with your phone.
Sounds like he's running from the sd card, not NAND. Have you flashed HSPL and radio yet? Please look around the forums. There are some excellent guides to get you started

Yeah you need to install HSPL and a new radio. Again, there are several guides on how to do this. Search around a bit. One thing though, if it was me, I would just install on NAND and bypass windows altogether. The guide linked above should tell you all about it and how to do it.

It's this easy...
I thought I'd post here since I'm having a problem with android install and I'm a noob as well (probably more noob than the person posting here). I tried installing nand android on my HD2 and followed the steps exactly. At least I'm pretty sure I did. I installed MAGDLR, then the recovery, and then android. Everything seems fine when booting except it just hangs at the HTC screen. I left it at the HTC screen over night since I heard the first boot would be long. So now I am wondering what are my options. I wanted to install WM again so I can retry the android rom install but since it stuck at the HTC screen, device manager doesn't see it. I didn't brick it did I? Thanks for your help in advance!
I followed this thread.

Couple things, did you first install HSPL and radio? Those go on before anything else. Second, how did you install the rom? Through usb or through recovery? Lastly, if you flashed via recovery, how did you transfer the zip to sd card? CWM has been known to corrupt files during transfers. I would recommend using a usb card reader or through magldr's usb mount option.
Actually one last thing. Make sure you have selected the correct recovery size. A ROM requiring 150mb will work on a 400mb partiotion, but not the other way around.

It's actually MAGLDR that corrupts files, not clockwork.
It's most likely that you don't have the right partition size though. You can change the partition by going to your clockwork file on your PC, opening it, then look for a file 'flash.cfg' and right click on it and open it in a text editor, then editing the line "system ya | 150" to whatever the ROM needs. The '150' will most likely be 150, 300 and 400 etc. so just change the numbers and save it.
ok i will try and do nand, what is one of the best nand to use, ty so much for help.
Hmm maybe you're right skelly, not sure. Either way it's best to use a card reader.
Fly, I'm using typhoon cm7 version 3.0.0. I found that it's the best for me

I would have always said one of the CM versions... great ROMs. Finally tried MIUI this week in preperation for putting it on my woman's G2 (always thought it looked like a girly ROM). OMG I'm hooked! I don't think I can ever go back to CM again. It's blown me away.
But you cannot go wrong with the popular CM ROMs. I tried the Sense one also for the eyecandy I love... but none of them ran smoothly for me.
I purchased my NC used and with CM7 installed. I loved it the way it was except for the outdated flash player.
I forgot it in my car at work and it was all of 7* that night. Once I got home it took an hour to start up and now its just a regular NC, no Android. When I try to do the introduction registration, it connects to WiFi but tells me it cannot register at this time and gives a number to call.
I didnt mod the Nook what so ever but with the help of this site I did mod my HTC Incredible with excellent results. Id like to have Android on my NC like before but Id like to run a updated verison with Flash 11 if possible.
Please help a Nook Newbie !!! I know there is a TON of info on this device here but it gets pretty confusing pretty fast.
Was CM running on eMMC? I don't know why it wouldn't connect, but maybe something cold related caused the device to boot and continuously fail, doing the 8 failed boot restore?
You can't register it probably because the person you bought it from never de-registered it. Time to do a full reinstall of CM7. There are a ton of posts that describe how to do it in detail. Just use the search function.
LOL
You left your NC running CM7 (just to make fun, I assume it's installed in eMMC) in the car with temp. around 7 and after a nite, it automatically reverses back to bone stock, LOL
Man, if it's true, it gotta be an EASIEST way to restore stock ROM, crackinggg
Back to your case, for some reason, I do think your NC running CM7 off uSD and when it booted up, couldn't get into uSD so it booted directly to eMMC. Hope that's the case.
I bought it without an SD card so the mod was already installed on the NC internal memory. V
Ive read thru alot of info on here but still a bit confused. Im also wondering if having CM7 previously installed will cause me any problems trying to flash a different ROM.

It won't if you wipe the caches for a full reload. Keep in mind that if you are the least bit hesitant you could just as easily make a bootable SD card and have no worries.

Dear All,
After losing my Samsung Galaxy Note in Amsterdam during a heavy weekend I am back on my girlfriend's old ZTE Blade and have been trying to update it a little.
I downloaded the KonstaKang ROM and GApps to the ext. Sd card and booted into clockwork mod recovery (I rooted and flashed a custom rom for her when I gave it to her originally).
I did the full wipe just to make it all as clean as poss and went to install the new rom but ran into some problems.
Firstly the sd card could not be accessed. It was if it was not mounted. I tried various things including mounting it in mounts and storage, restarting recovery, reformatting the sd in another android and the pc etc. Eventually (it felt random) it let me choose zip from sd.
Thats when the rom was selected but it then told me that the rom was (bad) and would not install. Again I redownloaded it and another rom and also a new version of cwm. Still nothing would work it was all (bad).
Out of frustration I kept trying and eventually it changed its mind and let me install the rom. After installation I attempted to reboot system but it just hanged at the boot logo and would go no further.
I have tried all the above multiple times and all combos of things I can think of to get it to work but no luck. The phone randomly seems to decide if the .zips are (bad) but at least it allows me to access them now. Ive also tried installing the other rom and new cwm but nothing will work. Boot logo and nothing more.
Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? Whats the best way to get a rom on this old blade?!
Many thanks x

Well, first, you have an S3. Why use the Blade?
Second, have you looked into TPT + ROM? Also, what Gen blade is it? Once you can get something stable like cm7 booting, we can progress further

Well I believe it is a gen2 blade. I vaguely remember having to update it from gen1 but I cant be 100% sure. It was a long time ago!
I am using my girlfriends s3 to get on these forums so unfortunately I cant keep it!
I havent looked at tpt + rom and am unsure what that is at the moment . I shall have a read.
I must also say that I managed to install a new version of cwm but still no luck with any roms.
I am loading new roms on the ext sd from this s3 or through my pc I was wondering if the files were getting corrupted somehow. My pc doesnt see the phone so I have to use a card reader.
So yes roms are still saying 'cant open... (bad)' error when trying to install...
Thanks for your reply

Hello XDA peeps.
I've had my Nook color for about 3+ years. Have had both my wife and mine running old versions of CM7 on the SD card without issue.
I recently dug mine out to set up for the kids (for a trip we're taking starting this weekend) and first installed CM10 (10.3 I think). loaded and was able to get apps running w/o issue but the poor old Nook and CM10 was so sluggish I felt it was just too much for this legacy device, so I reflashed to the CM7.2.0 [stable]
loaded just fine, but when I went to install GAPPS it installed fine, but will not allow me to access my account now.
no matter how many times I try, it tells me the password does not match for my account.
I know for a fact the password is the right one, and I can get on the Play store just fine on my Galaxy S3 using the same credentials.
I even reflashed the GAPPS to an older version and no luck.
Any thoughts? Really stuck here, since we're leaving Saturday morning and I want to have both Nooks up and running current versions of our boys fav games to pass the time. right now it has no app store, so it's pretty much a stripped Android tablet.

I actually have the CM10 on the root of the device. I thought I had put it on the SD card, but didn't. (just found this out by accidentally powering on the tablet w/o the card in it)
So, currently downloading the CM 10.2.1 update (from 10.1.3), and perhaps it will fix the sluggishness.
I have a third stock Nook that I have not touched in years that I'm going to flash on the SD card...see if I can't get it to CM7.2 w/o any issues.
but previously I had wiped the card twice and attempted to Reinstall CM7.2.
I think the fault lies in the steps I was following to burn the SD card.
Told me to add the gapps AFTER installing CM7
I was pretty sure in the past I put both on the same SD at the same time.
or it is possible the Google two-step verification/authorization is not compatible with the older Market app. I can get on the Play store just fine on CM10 (but it did have me open in the browser to verify the device).

I don't think CM10.2 is going to help. CM7 is the best for NC. I would wipe the internal CM10 you have on there and install CM7 to internal. Be sure to put the right gingerbread gapps on there too.

yes, thank you. I feel anything higher than CM7 just boggs the processor on these dated tablets. For a kids' tablet, it's just fine and will run most of their games/books and it remains snappy. CM10 just feels overloaded. It is sluggish and slow to respond. I'll try to get it moved back to CM7.

I have the same card set-up, but I cannot get it to start with the card....constantly goes to the B&N root.

Thanks Leapinlar,
Still running into issues. now on BOTH Nooks.
I was pretty sure I remember something about an updated B&N ROM that was signaled with a Green sticker on the box, which the troublesome boot one has.
I am using the generic_sdcard_v1.3.img + cm-7.2.0-encore.zip + gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip all being burned via Terminal on Mac.
The only thing that has changed since I was dabbling with these in the past was the CM release.
I am not able to find my original bookmark of the tutorial I used to use (2+ years ago) so I think there might be a flaw in the instructions I'm following now. (for instance, the instructions I'm following now, the dd= command isn't proceeded by 'sudo' and without the sudo command, it errors out when trying to write the generic SD image to the disc (says disc is not available or locked).
gonna keep trying, because I want to get these up and working for our trip...we have 36+ hours of driving over the course of a week, so I know they'll get bored of looking at sights, reading books, watching DVDs, etc. Mainly for my own sanity, since I'll be driving.
**EDIT* i found the original tutorial I used years ago in my trove of bookmarks. It was the original GlassKeys tutorial. gonna give that a shot and report back with my success/errors.
Well, one thing, if you are going to use that old original image file you need to rename the CM zip to begin with update-. That will not help with the booting issue, but will make it so that image will recognize the CM zip.
I have an updated image zip in my updated instructions for NC SD installs linked in my signature.

Thanks. should have mentioned that I did rename the file to "update"
got my old CM10 to boot into Linux penguin and it seemed to be doing it's thing, after formatting the SD card following the GlassKeys instructions, but it is now booting to CM10 still by default and if I hold the "n" key for the boot menu on Cyanoboot and try to boot from SD card (normal or recovery) it just stays on that screen until I power it down.
as for the second, untouched Nook, I did the GlassKeys instructions to the SD card for that and it loaded to Penguin and went through all the install procedures, but now it still boots to the B&N emm setup screen.
wish I had never taken the other to CM10. now I have two Nooks that aren't acting properly.
thing that bugs me is the first one was running fine, just market wouldn't recognize my sign-in...now both are jacked.:silly:
SUCCESS!!!
So thank you goes out to leapinlar!!!
I dropped what I had been doing on my system as far as the files I was burning and read over all your FAQ and tutorial.
I downloaded the files in your how-to and had the tricky OE ROM flashed in a jiff!
The second one is installing now on the peguin screen and JUST now loaded to the CM7.2 bootloader screen.
Still used the GlassKeys instrucitons on how to burn via Terminal on OS X, but used your files (generic-sdcard-v1.3-CM7-9-10-10.1-10.2-11-largest-Rev8c.zip )
My original issue, I have found through all this, was that the Market wouldn't allow me to sign in...well that is an issue with the 2-step verification for my Google account I had activated (someone tried to hack my account, so I had it on). Once I turned it off, I was able to open the market and sign in.
Thanks again for your help leapinlar....check this one off!
Going to update both tonight with our boys' fav apps and games and get ready to hit the road first thing Sat morning!
If you want something newer I found that cm10.0 was pretty fast on nook color. Better than cm7. Anything newer I also found was to slow and laggy 10.1+. If interested the last nightly cm10.0 rom and gapps are over in the development fourm.
