Been discussed. NO chance. Going backwards to most DEV's. Time not worth it.
Move to a WM phone is your best bet.

imo search before you get flamed.
the evo will NEVER get windows mobile, if you want winmo get an HD2

i'm on sprint so dont think i can use an hd2
i think eventually someone will port wm
i dont need to have the latest device to feel like life is complete
and i can wait until then
or until all my app needs/wants/likes are met by android
is there a way to search available marketplace apps without an android phone?

http://appbrain.com

its just not worth it, every1 wants to go to andriod, not windows mobile lol

I am curious. What is it that WM can do that Android can't? Besides charge a lot more for software.
I ask because I was a huge WM fan until Android.

Short story: If you want Windows 3.1 on your supercomputer then get in Marty McFly's time machine and go back to 1985.

thanks for the appbrain link
things are looking bright
= )
if you found a perfectly working wm rom and all the apps you ever wanted not available on android...you would be more like me and not accept less for more $$$...
a faster processor and bigger screen isn't going to get a job done without the software
i'm perfectly happy with my touch pro
i have next to nothing bad to say about it
with my 3000mah battery i'm sure it still competes with every device out there
but honestly i am seeing lots of apps filling the gap on appbrain
i may be android bound yet
we shall see

thats just great, while youre floating around get me a hoverboard!

i apologize i did search
i came up with nothing
then i found ONE other thread about porting wm to android device
thanks for bearing with me though
it has proved useful now that i can actually search available apps for android
its easy to complain...haha

If you haven't seen the choices at the Android Market then I understand your concern. The reality is that I am a Windows server admin and use my phone for work, and I have found everything I need with Android.
I bet you will too and you get an OS that is light years ahead.

yeah things look good
except that the apps cost monies
and my plan cost would more than double
i'll be waiting for sprint android device with a keyboard if at all
maybe the galaxy s, but i'm not 100% on a samsung device
just have to keep watching i guess

Replace windows mobile 6 with another OS?

hi guys.
i have a tytn II PDA.
i'm using it since 2-3 months and at the end i can says it is not comfortable at all.
microsoft has to work in the worse way it is possible every time.
not complete as a pda, totally uncomfortable as a telephone.
can u tell me if there are some roma or OS to replace the windows mobile 6 pre-installed?
i knew apple OS where the best one, is there something i can do in order to have a better pda instead of this microsoft trash one?
thank you.
Google Android?
http://www.mobilecowboys.nl/nieuws/6265/fromfeed
thanks 4 the reply.
the site u linked is in duthc and i cannot understand some things.
looking around it seems android is still under development.
could you tell me something more?
tnx
No Other "fully functional" OS exists for the device.
just out of curiosity how long have you been using the device?
first month or so of using windows mobile is always tedious... but when you get used to it.. you wont want to go back (I got a nokia N95 and regretted it)

hi there.
i'm using the pda since 3 months.
by now i've quite stopped customizing it or "playing" with since i find win mobile set up quite messy.
i came from nokia smartphone series and found symbyan the best os for mobility ever.
fully customizable, fast, stable and above all build with "few clicks" philosopy.
with official win 6 rom, in order to reach a sub menu i have to dig into folders and tabs getting annoyed really fast.
start menu is almost not customizable, i cannot move links where i like, well they could have done a far better work insetad of that.
maybe changin rom passing to an unofficial one could give me some more satisfaction, but i'm not sure since the starting point is the same.
i hope i could explain myself at an understandable basic level ^^
sorry for my horrible english
bb.
Oh,now I get it. Phone people keep moaning about how Windows doesnt behave like symbian. Duuuh! Let go of your complete reliance on the d-pad(its a Symbian thing),you have a touch screen now,use it.

he, he, interesting post. I also spent a lot of time trying to simplify my phone interface. There are many great programs and tips on that forum. However, the first time I had an iPhone in my hands, I admitted its interface is 8 levels ahead of M$. Now, what we need is a fully customizable, fast and stable OS. Might be Android since HTC signed the partnership. Let's see. Anyway M$ got to react quickly otherwise they might be out of the game soon.

anyway, any hint to improve wm6?
i totally agree with you...
windows mobile is very complicated becuase it has all these extras that the average cell phone user will never even bother using....word, excel, ppt, etc. while business users thrive on these features.....
i am an average cell phone user but the only reason why i got the 8525 is because of the large qwerty keyboard so i can text a lot, but i wish the interface was as simple as a normal phone, maybe google android will fix this problem in the future =)
extra features do not make something complicated. complicated to you maybe. Very simple and easy in my opinion, besides, its near identical in operation and style to desktop windows, which everyone, even mac users are familiar with.
buying a hermes for just quick sms is like buying a a ferrari to get to the shops... should have bought a sidekick.
"because of the large qwerty keyboard so i can text a lot"
tests show that young fanatics could sms alot! faster then a good typist on a normal sized keyboard could type
they only one who could beat the young sms fanatics was freaky enthusiast old school telegraphs people
if a full keyboard was all the requirements then a nokia comunicator would prob be closer to fitting the need of a normal gsm user who just wanted a keyboard

Check out HTC home. you can add 8 programs to the quick launcher.
Or since you seem to be such a fan of the iPhone, why not install the iPhone interface for hermes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302739&highlight=iphone
or you can even look into the HTC touch interface.
I think thatif you look at thoes, they will help with your situaltion.
BTW, you should look in the TyTn/Kaiser forums for specific infomation to your phone. this one is for the older TyTn(8525).
Mate, go ahead and install Mobile 6! It is a lot better than the old WM5. Make sure you get a "cooked" version from this site, one with a built in HTC cube, HTC plugin etc. You will not fail to be impressed. Did I mention that you can use a 8 meg micro card for extra storage? Try doing that with an I-Phone!

He meant 8 gigs of sdhc ram and if you factor in that you can have as many as you can afford then your software and music and video options are very near limitless

No Mobile 7 upgrade!!!!

So, I just got off the phone with TMob support and found out that my new phone will NOT qualify for Windows Mobile 7 later this year. Needless to say I am pretty upset about this, but I am torn because I LOVE this phone...I do have the option to return the phone for a full refund.
Should I dump it and wait for Sprints Version with Android or roll the dice and mod the hell out of it???
I can't stand Windows 6.5, but fear hosing my phone with heavy mods...
I was thinking of getting the HTC EVO/Supersonic as well but its a non GSM phone
i am sure it will get ported to this device.

Its already been ported to the HD2. I'm not sure why people want WP7 it sucks compared to 6.5.X. WP7 is so locked down with no multitasking, copy n paste, and restricted install on apps. Granted something like side loaded apps will be taken care of with cooked roms but no multitasking or copy n paste is big problem for me.
I'm sorry but all I want to say is SRSLY? I hope you didn't really just find out about this, this has been all over tech blogs, here and tmonews for months, even before the HD2 was released, just give it time and it will be ported.

Yup, he's right. More than likely it will be ported sooner or later. Same goes for Android on HD2. Dunno when though. Still don't let it stop you from enjoying the HD2.
Well the joke is on me for sure...Thanks for all the comments and I will have to make the decision to join the fun and make this phone really rock or wait for the next generation...I am please with Tmob and their understanding to let me out of my contact with a full refund...good customer services for sure

If you can't stand WinMo6.5, you should consider returning it. Their won't be fully-functional ports of either WinPhone 7 or Android until at least the end of the year, maybe longer(probably). This is a WinMo6.5 phone... why did you get it in the first place if you can stand WinMo? If you want an Android phone, get an Android phone. If you want WinPhone 7, wait for a WinPhone 7 phone.
Has no one seen this video? The HD2 has already had WP7 ported to it. Everything is working except the video drivers are beta so it runs kinda slow.

It hasn't been released, and it's debated whether it's real or not. And it was never stated that everything was working, plus without good video drivers, it won't be very useful.
From what I have heard and seen...6.5 > 7
Besides...7 will not be out till probably Q4 and thats not to say that TmoUs will have a Winmo 7 device at launch.
TmoUS now gives full handset discounts after 1 year, and I myself have 4 lines on my account...2 of which are still available for a full upgrade after I upgraded my line to get the HD2...so I dont think there is much to worry about here.
Besides...I have no doubt is the abilities of the XDA cooks
I say keep it! the Hd2 has a bright future with the ppl of Xda on top of it.
Stick it out man.. its gonna have wp7 and android later on for sure.. i have no doubt.
Mod it dude.. you can get it just how you want almost. theres is many roms and mods and theres no limit.
I say keep your phone because it's a great machine and 6.5 can be good. As far as android and WP7S go it could be a long wait. Android is in progress but there is a lot of work to do.
On the Windows Phone 7 Series side I wish people would stop promising that XDA will port it over for this phone. We don't know. There is a video of some reliable people claiming they have it partly working but until we have something we can install it is all rumor.

It was widely known that the HD2 wouldn't get a WP7 update weeks before it ever came to t-mobile (why do you think they're selling it so cheaply?)
That being said, there's a good chance that an unofficial WP7 and/or Android port will come to the HD2 in the future. The biggest question is how long it will take for this to finally happen...and if by the time it does, you would have moved onto a new device or not.
Supposedly WP7 has already been ported to the HD2, but there isn't any solid confirmation that its real. On the other hand, there isn't any solid confirmation that its fake either.
If you don't like Windows Mobile, then I would return the device to t-mobile, rather than going through the mind f*ck of waiting for a port to come. I don't know why anyone bought the HD2 without being absolutely sure they could stand Windows Mobile. I don't know why anyone would buy a device on the *chance* that it would be upgradable to a new OS.
WP7 will not be perfect
I agree with many ppl here that WP7 will be less functional than 6.5 mainly because of its interface.. I know that having tiles for every single app and scrolling vertically in order to find the app at the bottom would not be nice...
However, putting all the negatives of WP7 aside, the only reason I would want it running on my HD2 is mainly for the apps... lets face it, Microsoft is going to go crazy on new applications and all the developers are gonna support WP7 once it comes out... so all I want is application support as HD2 has all the hardware required to run the apps for WP7...
Love the HD2 and WM6.5, just want more and better looking apps... there are many good ones out but I would love it if I had the option to pick between similar apps...
I'm a software developer and let me tell you, working on applications for the .net 3.5 CF is horrible. For me, WP7's support for both silverlight and XNA is probably the biggest draw for me. Plus the XBOX Live integration will be killer. I saw a demo of the same application running on the phone and on the xbox and the dev said that 90% of the code stayed thed same. That is a HUGE win.
I think that the quality, look and feel, availability, and discoverability of apps is the the main reason for WP7.
WM 6.5 is a computer, and I use it like a computer. I had an iPhone before my HD2 and even though it was limited, slower, smaller, locked, etc the fact that I could search for an app and find exactly what I was looking for in seconds ON THE PHONE and have it work and consistantly look good is what I miss most. That is what WP7 is bringing to the table, and if numbers are any indication, that's what people want. Just look at market share trends.
Dream setup: Dual boot WPClassic and WP7.

Wait, you just found this out YESTERDAY?!?!? Wow. How was life under that rock? Fear not. While it might not be an "official" update, there is promising video out there that shows WM7 running on the HD2.
My questions is why in the blue blazes anyone would want that iPhone clone is beyond me.
My second question is if you can't stand 6.5 why did you get the HD2? If you can't stand it, take that sucker back.

could there still be a windows Mobile 7?

Does anyone here think it possible, or perhaps even worth developing a windows MOBILE 7 rom for the HD2? Perhaps based on windows embedded mobile? Even better, does anyone care?
After seeing the Android rom working for about 5 minutes I'm more excited for that than Win7.
I wouldn't doubt if there are people making a Win7 ROM for the HD2.
Am I the only one who thinks that Winmo 6.5 Energy + Modded manila > Android ? Energy Winmo just looks and feels better... Androis is overhyped, but I may need to play with it a bit more.
I don't care for windows phone 7, but about the time wm 6.1 was released, i got excited for wm7. i thought it would be awesome. instead we get wp7. crap.

I was with Android from 1.0 to 1.5 to 1.6 to 2.1 on my g1 and having switched to WinMo I do not want to go back. I am not intetested in Android or Phone 7 for my Hd2.
I have to agree with freeincolorado and silencer, android just doesn't cut the mustard. I finally loaded it on my TP2 and have been playing with it all weekend, and while there's a few things about it that I wish winmo had, I was still very relieved when popped my sim back in my HD2 this afternoon.
As for the original topic of this post, I feel extrememly confident that someone will try to to get wp7 working on the HD2, if only for the accomplishment. Even if it's never tried with any other existing phone, the HD2's hardware should certainly be capable, if the drivers etc can be made to work with it.
I like both OS of android and win mo. Both are open source and highly customizable. I just preordered the T-Mobile Vibrant but will be keeping my HD2 for work and will end up flashing some cool new roms on it.
I've been sticking with android because unlike Win Mo 6.5x, it's not a dying platform. It's completely on the rise with the upcoming Froyo and Gingerbread updates. Google has also promised even more updates in the future. I see LOADS of potential. The Android market is constantly growing along with XDA development e.g., CyanogenMod, etc..
But don't get me wrong I love Win Mo. It's by far and truely open source vs. android. I was surprised that I can already do things on my stock HD2 that a stock and unrooted android device can't (saving apps to sd, overclock the cpu, playing Flash etc). But with these forthcoming android OS updates, these features will finally be included.

Well we got great devs here on our side so were gonna be just fine. I see a modified Win 6.75 coming out once WP7 is out. Taking key features and benefits from WP7 and merging them into Win6.5. Hell I'm running Kumars Classic rom and haven't had to reboot in like 10 days now. Then I see dual boot with an android port that works good but has a few bugs. Then I dream of possibly WINXP or a good UBUNTU running as a 3rd or dare it 4th os. With all the tablets coming out we may have many more OS options and choices floating around.
winmo 6.5 crushes android 1.6 imo...I Had a g1 running 1.6 and absolutely loved it, great device and great os..i use winmo 6.1 on a motorola mc55 for work so i thought i would hate the hd2 but compared to the motorola cliq which was my only android "upgrade" option from tmous at the time, the hd2 ran circles so I went with it and got the xt for the wife to compare...no contest hd2 ftw...she's still waiting for 2.1, moto delayed it again she's still at 1.5! haha . I do miss some android features but i just look at that huge screen and forget all about it...
i realize that many people want windows phone 7 for hd2, but this thread is really about windows mobile 7. I'm thinking photon. do you think thats possible?

First off - Windows Mobile is NOT open source.
As for WM7 - I'm sure it will be ported to the HD2. The real question is will the GPS, bluetooth, and camera work with it properly - which is my complaint about Android. If those 3 things don't also work along with everything else (I *suppose* I could live without the FM radio) - then it's pointless as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah i'm hoping he meant the platform is more open, not open source. Quite a difference there.
As far as platforms being open, Android and WinMo are probably on even playing fields. But WinMo probably has more seasoned developers/hackers that know a lot of the tricks with the OS
And actually WinMo may be more open as far as user rights, because google does have the ability to withdraw an app from their store and uninstall it from users handhelds remotely. I don't think MS has that ability from their app store, and they most certainly don't have that ability to uninstall apps loaded from downloaded cabs
Google has already done this once http://www.dailytech.com/Google+Use...+Removal+Tech+for+First+Time/article18843.htm Though it does seem legitimate to protect the users. whats to stop some app, say like DeCSS for decrypting DVDs being deemed illegal, and then google being forced to remove something due to a lawsuit, not because it is in any way is dangerous to a user.
It really rubs me the wrong way for a 3rd party to be able to uninstall and maybe even possibly remotely install code onto a piece of hardware that i OWN!

i remember reading that on engadget. google *seems* to be acting in good faith to protect themselves from liability from apps that would violate certain copyright infringements and the like. but i just hope they would use this feature to get rid of all the trashy porn searching programs on the market. steve jobs wasn't joking when he made a comment about that.

what right do you or big steve or the chocolate factory have to decide what someone else can or can't search for? who defines "trashy porn"?
first step towards a fascist totalitarian state is controlling the populace's reading/viewing material.
first they came for the pornographers, and no one spoke up, because we werent pornographers
then they came for the app devs they didn't like, still no one spoke, because we arent devs
next they took control of the adding/removing of apps on devices they didn't own, and still we were silent,
when they come for us, who is left to speak out?

x2, there are several WM converts on here that can assist you if you are looking for specific functions..Android has everything, just about.

I want no part of WM7
and to everyone else.. I just cant make the switch.. :-(
I switched from a TP2, and if you search my name you can see how I went from all WM to several Android phones, and I went back in the Rhodium forums and had discussions about WP7, WM6.5, and Android compared.
I had no intention of switching. I had no interest in WP7. I loaded Android ROMS onto my Rhodium for fun. In our discussions I decided all hardcore WM fans shoudl naturally migrate to Android. The reason is because WP7 is not the XDA Windows that WM was. However Android is. It is like WM in that you can customize everything. It is unlike it only in the fact that we customize here more out of fun than need, because Android is way more inherantly stable. However everything from the dialer, to the lockscreen, to the homescreen, is natively customizable. You just download, install, and hit the 'default' check.
I would suggest you load an Android rom on your Rhodium and check it out.
BTW... I ended up with an Epic 4g bc it was most similar to the Rhodium, however HTC has done amazing work with Sense on Android. It's not a cover on Android, its its own system.

After making the switch to Android from the TP2, holy crap is WinMo garbage. Android is so much ridiculously better.

Why so resistant to change? Do you miss the days of the telegraph? Do you wish you could drive a Model T? Flawed logic and resistance to advancement and change is just ludicrous. You may have liked WinMo 6.5, but it's a dead OS. Either go Android, WP7, or just get a plain non-smartphone ffs.
It's easy to find the ROM.
The real question is how are you going to install with your Windows 3.1 computer?
So the answer to my question is?? There is no WM 6.5.X rom?
no. there is not.
Hey, don't be so tough on the guy. I can see where he's coming from...
I was a Windows mobile guy myself (going back before it was put on a phone), and it wasn't easy to just give it up. What got me to switch... was playing with Android before even thinking of making a purchase.
I played around with the Android SDK Virtual for a few days (which I quickly realized was gimped until you start adding the Market and all the apps), but even with just the very basic shell, it was completely functional - moreso than WM.
So, my suggestion is to play with Virtual machine on your PC, or find a friend who will let you fiddle around with their phone. I'm pretty sure you will quickly change your mind.
I had to read this thread. My first thought when I saw the title was that it was a joke. I had come to the conclusion that I would keep my TP2 forever with the Energy roms on it... now it's a whole new world out there and I'm looking forward to all the developers here providing all the "play with" fun I can handle and not just making my phone work. The Epic is wonderful hardware...why hold it back?
Wait.. this was a serious post?.. dude trust me i came from a touch pro 2.. i flashed pretty much every single rom that was made for it an none of them come close to being as good as the epic stock.. i hve no doubt in my min you wont regret the switch
Tapatalkin' it from my EPIC 4g

While we are asking silly questions, is there anyone that can port a Rom of Windows Me for the Epic, so I can take a great OS and replace it for a giant steaming pile of crap.
There isn't one, and I don't think it's going to happen.
Windows Mobile is just dead. Microsoft killed it when they decided to ditch it for WP7.
It may be possible someone can get WP7 to run WM programs in some of compatibility layer similar to wine for unix. Of course in that same token, ARM is ARM, it should be similarly possible to get WM running in a virtual machine on Android, but a lot less likely. Mostly because, even though WP7 isn't WM, it is in fact still running on Windows CE.
So hypothetically it could be as simple as copying over some dll's from WM. It'll probably be a lot harder than that, and quite possibly too hard for the dev community that's left clinging to WM.
Unlike some people here, I have a lot of respect for your position. WM is an OS written for a handheld computer that had a phone added to it as an afterthought. I liked this, because I used it on PDA's before that. I even remember telling people, "one day your PDA, cell phone, and music player will all be the same thing".
While I'm just being silly, I tell you what I'd really like to see, and that's a netbook with a "snap in" (a piece of hardware) handset. We're already carrying around 5" devices, let's go on up to a netbook size, but have the phone part detachable. At this point I almost feel silly carrying around a laptop AND a smartphone, because there's so much redundancy. I'll just put the netbook in a manpurse and be done with it.
So anyway, back on topic, no there's not a WM ROM for the Epic, and I seriously doubt there will ever be. The reason simply boils down to drivers. There won't ever been any drivers written for Galaxy S hardware for WM, and writing drivers is really tough stuff. There probably aren't even that many people who know how to write WM drivers from scratch, let alone in the dev community. And it would take so many man hours you'd really need a team to do it before the hardware reached obsolescence.
You really have three options at this point. The first is to wean yourself off WM. Android really, really is linux running on a phone, with a pretty GUI. The GUI is so good that, until you really dig down into it, it's hard to realize that. Think about what you like about WM, and then see if you can get the same functionality out of Android. Almost everyone does if they give it an honest try.
The second is to see what Microsoft is going to offer you in terms of continued support for WM. There's some talk about them separating consumer mobile Windows (WP7S) from business mobile Windows. Motorola did the ES400, and more might follow. But that could be a tougher pill to swallow than swapping platforms. (More info here.)
The third is rely on the dev community to get virtualization or a compatibility layer for WP7 going, and hopefully mod the UI.
That's really it. I wish you the best. I decided like a lot of people here to swithch to Android, and I haven't regretted it one bit. The Epic is an amazing device. There's an Android learning curve, but it's really not that bad.
thank you for your reply.. Ill just wait it out for the next big thing like the TP3 and hope that it comes out W/O Win7. also thank you to anyone who gave me a simple answer to my question.. "NO"..

Never buying a new phone again eh?
I just stumbled on this thread... HA. I came from the mogul->tp->tp2 and I am so glad I am rid of windows mobile. My wife has my old tp2, and I hate working on it now. Roms w/ android are just better all around.
Anything wimo can do android can do better.

I'm not sure Win Phone 7 will come to HD2

Sorry if this has been done before, unable to search(at work using IE 6.0)
However i'm not sure if Windows Phone 7 will come to the HD2, i'd love it to and i've heard its possible.
But there is one thing which makes me think it would never be done in the same way Android has, and that is Android is open source where as WP7 is closed source and therefore wouldn't it be illegal to port it?
If it can be done legally then I really can't wait to boot my HD2 into WP7 and Android as don't get me wrong, the devs will have no probs porting it if it can be done

Illegal
I am constantly putting custom roms on my HD2 with Windows Mobile versions that have not been released yet. I don't think that is less illegal than releasing Windows Phone 7.
An official release would be nice of course. Especially because I do not know if we can update WP7 if it ever gets ported to the HD2.
I have heard from several sources that in the development the HD2 has been used a test device and therefore the drivers and so should be available at HTC. The HD7 virtually is equal to the HD2 so a release should be very easy for HTC.
I still have hopes they will release it. Eventually the phone will be worn out and need to be replaced. If HTC has provided me with an update to WP7, my idea of HTC will be so positive that my next phone most probably would be an HTC as well.
If not, well then I hope that WM6.5 gets more and more stable and with cookie hometab 2.0 or SPB windows mobile shell 5.0 we still have a nice interface. I know that the new range of WP7 phones do not offer enough hardware advantages to justify an upgrade while I bought my HD2 for around 550 euro not even a year ago.
A reason why I still count on an official update is that HTC has not been doing much to update the sense experience so far, while on android it keeps getting better and more flexible.
A WP7 release would make up for that, if not, I feel a little bit deserted by HTC.
Also for Microsoft an update would be usefull, they would have an instant increase of marketshare. This is good for app devellopment, mouth to mouth advertising and eventually would help MS to anker their OS into the market.
This is a video from one of the main people who brought us android on our hd2s so i beleive it to be real.

Hey I never said its not possible, I have much faith in the developers on XDA and I know it IS possible, but I was just wondering if it was legal to as it's not open source

Well.. If HTC were to release an OFFICIAL update of WinMo7 then people won't buy the HD7..Of course you can also say that if HTC were to update their (not too) old phones they will bring more customers..
I, personally, don't like WinMo7..
It looks too 'simple' for me.. and I don't really like the design.. but we'll have to wait for some reviews and more pics..
lets hope sombdy at HTC just happens to drop da drivers for WP7 on da hands of a couple dev... an goes on wit der life... nody knowin who left em behind
Well if it is illegal just be one of the first to download it ;o
1 - Legal or illegal, I know I don't give a rat's ass about legality.
2 - BE OPTIMISTIC, COTULLA IS JESUS OF CODING.
3 - I sure hope it will come to the HD2
Well I hope someone does port WP7 to the HD2, especially as I've looked at the specs for the HTC HD7 and apart from having build in 8/16gb expanded memory the specs are identical!!! I thought the whole point of WP7 and HTC denying any statement that they would port it back to the HD2 was that the CPU would be a dual core snapdragon (if I understood things right) but seams this is not the case and there is no physical hardware problem with the HD2 running it.
I would guess the thing that will stop it at the moment is getting a Kernel sorted that would boot WP7 just like is needed for Android ROMS to run or a Radio update.
Personally speaking I can't wait to give it a go, the only reason I still run WM6.5 is so I can properly access my work exchange email and hotmail at the same time (+3 other email accounts) and when i'm in the car WM6.5 is perfect for playing music and using sat nav without having to look at the screen (found android audio multi-tasking lacking) but love the android for the customisable scenes, apps, widgets and more importantly, app content (love robo wars and angry birds).
It would be actually better on the HD2 than the HD7; I really really miss having a phone button on WP7 (you have to go back to the home screen, tap the phone icon, then tap the keypad icon...) but guess what? The HD2 already has one! The future is now!
Wp7 seems to have forgotten that some people actually like their phone to also at the same time be a phone (of all things). To be easy to use as a phone. To let you quickly phone people. To not spend five minutes working out how to phone people whilst fumbling on the touch screen on a rainy day. To let you answer phone calls with a (real) button press that your fingers can quickly find whilst pulling it out of your pocket, and (what black magic is this I see) the HD2 even lets you press a button to hang up a call! It's pure genius.
I really like the way an HD2 is built - much more than other phones I've seen - so I'd love to see WP7 on it.
And just to get it off my chest one more time.... Why of why oh why (oh why....) Microsoft did you get rid of the phone button?
well here is an interesting read for you guys (my email responce from htc)...

Windows Mobile 7 is a giant step backwards in 3 key areas
1. No native tethering support. What this means is ooops no connection to the PC like you have now with WinMo 6.5.X
2. No 3rd party app multitasking. What this means is when you get a call and the OS moves away from the app, it gets closed. if the app developer was not smart enough to save the app state, you're screwed.
3. Copy and paste. (This is supposed to be resolved). What this means is you cannot copy urls or text out of something and paste it into another place

1. This won't last long, it will come unless carriers block it.
2. Depends on the 3rd party app. Microsoft has already relented for pandora (apparently). What makes you think the app devs aren't smart enough to develop their apps properly knowing the issue of save state?
3. I've heard this was already fixed (or will be in the first update).
1. MS has stated that they will leave tethering up to the carriers hence it's missing.
2. What makes you think developers are smart enough? I can point to the crapload of buggy software already out for [insert platform here] that does not work right.
3. Should have been in there from the start, there really is no excuse for this most simplistic feature of windows to be missing.
