Hello, I am new to all of this and would appreciate help.
I looked on here for reverting back to 1.5 after rooting to 2.1, but I am confused. I saw the instructions on how to root to 2.1, but if I want to revert back to the stock 1.5, how do I do so? Do I need a backup copy of my phone? How do I make a backup copy of my rom on my phone? Is there a step by step to reverting back to stock 2.1? Sorry if these questions are obvious.

Ok, so I want to update to 1.6 aka "Donut", and as you may notice by looking at my signature. I have a Rooted MT3G, do I need to un-root my MT3G first? or can I update while my MT3G is rooted?

you can just flash the 1.6 ota just like you would a rom.... update.zip
this is the the plain 1.6 (donut) rom
http://developer.htc.com/google-io-device.html
there are also a ton of cooked 1.6 roms in the dev section if you wanna go that route
You'll need to wipe going from Cupcake to Donut so it doesn't really matter whether you have Root or not.
If you just want plain Donut, use that link above.
If you want Donut with root, use nk02's ROM.
If you want Donut with tether, apps2sd and all that stuff there are a few ROMs around now. Check out Amon_RA's Donut or Dwang's Donut ROM.
Of course, fastboot Amon_RA's Recovery to perform a nandroid backup of your stock phone (incase you ever have to send it in for warranty) and to flash the new zip.
Ok, so I used the guide here and every time I tried to install the 1.6 update. It said no signature found, the only reason I can think of this is because I have a ROM file named "update".
Can I delete the ROM file off my myTouch once I installed it or do I need to keep it there so the ROM would keep working?
Can anyone explain why the 1.6 update isn't working for me?
Thank you.

It is the exact same process as you did to your hero rom. It looks like you already did the 1 touch root so simply turn on phone and then mount phone via cable and transfer the file and rename it "update.zip". After that, disconnect the cable and turn off the phone and then hold the home + power button. Wipe the data and then install the update like you did before and voila, you're done.
To see it all in a video, I believe I followed this when I did it

I have run into a strange problem. I have spent the last 2 days trying to flash the Fresh Rom back onto my phone. I had some problems while trying to do Apps to SD. Flashed back to stock, Updated and rerooted. I can restore all backups of the original sprint ROM. Every time I flash Fresh 1.0 or restore one of my nandroid backups for Fresh it will get stuck in a boot loop. I have searched everywhere and tried every possible option and can not get this Rom back on the phone. Anyone have any ideas?
first off, do you have a modded Recovery Menu? Because you need one, it is in the forums, i believe it is stickyed, but if its not search for it.
second, did you download the right ROM for YOUR phone?
Third, is the download a good download? it is possible it is corrupt.
put ALL these into consideration.
That what I was gonna ask gotta make sure you're rooted for flashing first! Good luck and let us know if you have any questions...if the directions for rooting viat the Android SDK are too confusing for you like they were for me search the forum for the "flashrec" way of rooting your phone so easy a caveman can do it!
Also be sure to get the base 1.29 RUU just to have if you need to default to stock and I found with my Sprint Hero model that recovey image 1.5.2 works best for back up and restoring 1.2.3 didn't work at all for me hence the need to run the base RUU anytime I tried to restore lol.
Yes I did all of that. I had it flashed with the fresh Rom before. Used the same files that where on my card even redownloaded. No go.
I wanna wipe radio/pri/prl/rom/custom recovery/EVERYTHING completely to a stock 2.2 froyo sprint rom WITHOUT root and custom recovery.
After i return my phone to 2.2 like i just got it from sprint...
Then i want to full root it and have the new 1.8 RA recovery...
I guess whatever custom rom i go back to from there, i'll decide.. but for now
I want a piece of mind that my phone is properly working like it should from factory.
Thanks for any assistance on what proper steps i should take.

Firstly, how did you root your phone? I see your join date is from '07, so you aren't a newbie that came on here in June when you got your Evo (like me.....lol). If you rooted the "old school" way using toast's method, all you have to do is flash a Sprint RUU (any Sprint RUU, as it will prompt you to the an OTA update to 2.2 even if you flash an older RUU) and your phone goes back to stock. If you rooted with Unrevoked Forever that keeps S-off, then it may be more complicated. I wouldn't be able to tell you because I've personally never used any of the Unrevoked team's stuff.
oh, sorry for lack of pre-rooting details.
yea launch phone with(at the time) 2.1, and i used that 3 button OTA simpleroot.
can i flash the sprint ruu 2.2, then use the new unrevoked?
do i need to wipe any details with ##786#?
first, yes i know how to search!
i've found out that when you want to unroot your phone you have to do it using ruu's.
how do i know wich Ruu i should use?
when i install the Ruu, is it just like installing a new rom using clockwork?
and when i've installed the Ruu how do i uninstall clockwork and all the other things that comes with the root?
i am currently using the standard 2.1 update 1 rom for wildfire (original rom)
if you plan not to do rooting and flashing anymore, just update to 2.2. Everything will get original, but you will lose the opportunity to root it again. Otherwise, flash a kinda of unroot image, which comes with unrevoked, i didn't hear about it anyway. Try yourself.
To install the RUU, Download it (It will be an EXE File), install HTC Sync on your PC, Connect your device, and, run it. You will lose Clockworkmod and all root associated apps and priveleges when you unroot it.
First check that you can root your phone.
If you already have Froyo installed on your phone then you will have the new Hboot.
If can root use the old unbranded Eclair Ruu from shipped rom's.
It's in the guide (turkeys guide i think) stickyd at the top of the page.
I also want to go back to using stock ROMs. Froyo actually. The only reason I rooted was to gain app2sd facility which was not there in Eclair.
Now that Froyo is out for wildfire spare me the unstable ROMs. I will go for the Stock one.
I have the RUU for my mobile. But When I run it from PC, I get cannot upgrade your phone. I understand this is because I am having a custom recovery (Mine is ClockworkRecovery).
Now can anyone tell how I can get the stock Froyo ?
Do I need to get the stock recovery back ? Is there a bypass for this ?
Or is there a .zip file intead of RUU.exe files for Stock Froyo ?
I have looked and looked but probably not in the right places... I have a rooted Evo 4G with froyo 2.2. I used unrevoked forever and know how to get the s-on back... I just would like to update the phone to the newest update and root it again. Is it still necessary to get s-on back then load the original ruu rom? I would think I just need to remove the unrevoked then update. The phone works I just want newer firmware on it... My apologies if I did not look for my response properly, but all I see is a reload the IMG file... I dont want to set back to factory... just wanted to post this question. Thank You

There is absolutely no reason to unroot. All you have to do is flash a custom stock ROM based on the newest firmware. A whole bunch are available for flashing in the Development forum.
It is much easier to leave the phone S-OFF and then either flash a rooted stock ROM or run a stock RUU. Then all you would need to do to obtain full root again (with stock ROM) would be to install a custom recovery and then flash a superuser.zip file, rather than turning the phone back S-ON and then going through a potentially complicated procedure just to reroot and possibly turn the phone back S-OFF.
Thank You guys sounds like a custom rom is the way to go... it would get rid of that IQAgent also... I'll look around for a nice looking rooted rom.
