I'll be down to about 10% battery - I get the message saying 'please charge your phone', blah blah blah. I reboot, my phone comes up and the battery indicator says it's at around 50% somehow... I did not connect the charger at all. Anyone experience this? I've tested it on 2 separate batteries... This only seems to happen on Froyo. The battery life doesn't last long either, even when it 'regenerates' and always drops pretty quickly.
comment and advice are welcome!
So when you reboot it and it comes up at 50%, does it last longer? Mine hits 10 or 5% answer It's dead when it dies.

it starts draining immediately, but it lasts longer than it would if it was really at 10%... if that makes sense.
You either have a faulty battery or you simply need to recalibrate it (More likely.) If you don't have root just follow the Final steps 1 and 2.

AFAIK, phones turn them selves off before the battery has no more juice in it to stop the battery from being ruined. If the battery is calibrated badly it will shut off when it thinks the percent is 10% but in reality it could have 50% like OP says.
I have been using a battery % widget and when my phone gets down to about 15% according to the widget, I start getting pop-up saying less than 10% or 5% remaining. When the widget says it is down to 10%, the pop up will say that I have less than 1% remaining, but it will still run for quite a while (at least an hour last night). I just got the "less than 1%" pop-up several times, despite there still being plenty of battery, apparently. It seems to me the widget was correct and the phone wasn't. Definitley some battery recognition issues in froyo. That may be why so many are complaining of bad battery life. I have been experiencing excellent battery life myself.
I keep hearing some people claim how "great" their Vibrant's battery is. I am on my third Vibrant and battery life has been terrible on all of them. Just recently I noticed ~16% of my battery got drained for ~15 minute voice call. (The attached screenshot shows voice call using 27% but at that time my battery was at around 39%, which means the 15 mins took about ~16% total battery.) I just passed my 14-days buyer's remorse, so exchanging it (unless I want a "like new" one) or returning it are not an option. Any suggestions on how to improve battery life? I already keep the brightness on the screen to the lowest it gets.
Thanks!
Hmm that defintely is not normal. I would check with the store in getting another replacement. 15% drain on 15 min call is not normal for any phone.
There is a bug where if you power down the phone while it's charging, then the reported battery % is higher than actual. Perhaps the seemingly fast drain is a result of the reported value "catching up" to the actual level.
Edit: So I figured out where you're getting your numbers .
Still doesn't seem right though, did you notice the battery percentage before the call by any chance?

My rooted G1 had that same bug. Start charging it, power it down, power up and from completely dead it would show around. 24% in a couple minutes of charging. This phone I've noticed does it as well as newer blackberry's. Bizarre...
What I would suggest is draining the battery till it dies, charge it back up fully and see if you can have it happen again. Could've been a fluke.

looks like a bad battery reading to me.
Complete charge, complete discharge, and complete charge should reset it.
Yeah the percentages do need to be calibrated and sometimes they are off a bit, say 100%-90% actually often goes faster than 80%-70%.
The batteries are also partly responsible since discharge Ah is not a completely linear relationship with voltage (which is why the percentages need calibration).
I would say unless you have a rogue application on your phone eating battery it is more likely just how it is being reported.

I'm having same issue. Battery life on my Vibrant is just horrible. I can barely go half a day until it's fully discharged and that's about 30 min talk time an hr maybe browsing apps and internet and a little WIFI/BT. Just for example I charged it after complete discharge and took it out at 11.30 pm last night, drove my brother to the airport and back around 1.30 and while it was sitting in the car and a few calls I made, it already went down to 74%, I purposely left it without charge till morning.... at 8am it was showing 47%... WTF!!
I have rooted the phone with update.zip, I have installed ATK and have Crazy settings on it.... one thing I don't get is that after it kills apps, they keep coming back every few seconds. Also brightness is at the lowest and no live wallpaper...
UltimateJuice by the way is showing 1.58 times, which is BS... right now it's 10.30AM and its down to 38%....
Any help would be appreciated!

Vibrant's battery life does suck, even with the supposedly power efficient processor and super amoled!!!!!!
Samsung has some more work to do. Hopefully, the froyo update can alleviate the problem!!!

Anytime the screen is on its eating battery. We have the best screen in the market. If you really want a conservative wallpaper use something almost all black or solid black. When a AMOLED screen is displaying black the LEDs are off.
For those "apps that keep showing up" those are due services that are running in the background. If you don't use the app often set the notifications to a lower time or set it to update manually.
If you've rooted there is a thread on "how to keep your phone quick and snappy" read it. Also fix your permissions through recovery. Rogue apps apps can drain battery.
after 3hrs of on & off hard using (minus extra long phone calls >45mins) I can pull 12-16 hours easily on one charge.
Look into things like eugenes vibrant 6 & JACs UV(under volted) kernel.
GL and car chargers are awesome!

Battery life on my Vibrant has been superb. You might need to change settings or something. This screen shot was for today with lots of calls and market shopping and I even watched a movie. I do not use a killer, yes I'm rooted with lots of tweaks to my notification bar. I'm using the spiritbomb lwp and its been great.

Unfortunately, the battery life on the Vibrant just sucks, compared to the iPhone.
I came to a Galaxy S and a Vibrant form the iPhone 3Gs.
With the same style of usage, the iPhone lasts at least 40% longer than the Galaxy/Vibrant.
I like the phone a lot, but am really unhappy to have to constantly think about how I use it, to avoid it dying on me before the end of the day.
Basically, with moderate use, it will last for a day, but if I go out after work and do a little texting or take a few pictures, it will die before I get home.
12-14 hours is really not good, since with my old iPhone I used to be able to last almost two full days without recharging.
Plus, the blocking of the camera at 15% of battery life is a truly idiotic decision by Samsung.
Thanks for your feedback! I am newbie in the Android world, as I come from the Apple planet. It just takes time to get used to it.
As for XDA App, where can I get it?

I am looking into the mod for the notification bar, specifically the battery. I have seen a circle battery with percentage, where do I get one?
XDA is your Friend
Search XDA for all ur app and theme needs, as for the Iphone being better on battery. I dont doubt its better, but from my experience and many family and friends showing me there iphones they are always tethered to a power source. Theres no better test than driving 300+ miles a day every day and coming back to the hotel and seeing my phone tell me i have been using it for 20+ hours and i still have 25% charge. I am constantly using my phone for calls, text, movies and such. Without my phone my wife would probably divorce me lol The amount of travel i do via plane, train and automobile is all the real world facts i need. Vibrant is a keeper.
Yes it sucks.
And under 15% it's not allowing me taking pictures!
Come on, I know I am under 15%, but I still want to take 1 or 2 pic!!
Wrapping these all up in the same post because they are related.
I have found that the battery indicator is pretty inaccurate and will jump from say 15% straight to 10%. This goes for the stock battery usage meter in settings, display in the top right on the staus bar, battery widgets, and even setcpu. Anyway to make this actually accurate and provide real time indication?
Also I have been playing around with setcpu and Juice Defender and have found that they essentially do the same thing. They both under clock the CPU at certain times except setcpu doesnt disable wifi and other things. I figured it would be bad to run both so I disabled Juice Defender. If I have to pick one, which should I use?

Do you also use setcpu? Did you seem to definitely notice a difference using Juice Defender? Or more importantly any features of the phone change? For example every time you shut the screen on and turn it back on, does it have to find wifi again? Or what about when the screen is off, does it shut down data connections completely so that you don't even receive email notifications?

I used Juice Defender on the atrix until recently. It worked well. I had to set to pull data for one minute every 15 minutes (and it wouldn't stop downloading at the end of the minute unless it was finished pulling what it wanted to. Sure I no longer got my email responded to the second I received it, but it made my battery last ~50% longer.
I also used setcpu to underclock when the battery was <20% and when the screen was off. Juice Defender has this feature for other phones, however, didn't seem to support underclocking on the Atrix.
Thanks for the info

I don't think people here realize how circle battery widget (and other like it work). Nearly all battery widgets just read what the system is saying which is obviously going to be in 10%'s on this phone. What circle battery and a few others do is read the actual voltage left in the battery and make an accurate % report which is why it's 100% accurate down the %. It doesn't matter what battery capacity the battery has either because every Li battery has the same full and empty voltage. So yes circle battery widget is 100% accurate.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
^Exactly. Even without knowing that, you can just watch the circle battery widget and the reported system percentage. The circle battery widget always changes consistently with the normal system value, so at the very least it's as accurate as any of the meters displaying the 10% increments.

Not sure where you got the idea that circle battery widget was inaccurate. Like I mentioned above, anyone can observe that it is consistent with the system report, so it at least averages out to be fairly accurate for every 10% block.
Another thing to remember, though a small detail, is the fact that the system displays increments of 5% starting at 15%. That doesn't change much, but that means it's not only 10% increments.

im not saying you are wrong here but where did you get the info that it measures voltage? even if it does im not convinced its that easy to
accurately measure capacity. why are all these phone manufactures have problem with having to recalibrate batteries and wiping stats? why not just always measure voltage and always have accurate numbers?
im no expert im just going with what designgears posted in his thread. he is a developer that made lots of roms with very accurate battery monitor that i used for my captivate. he was trying to make one for the atrix but was told that the hardware only supports 10%. if its was as easy as measuring the voltage then why didnt he just do that?
ive used circle battery and battery monitor that both showed 1% increments for a few weeks and noticed that it was not very accurate. its hard to explain but when i was using the phone it would decrease at a steady rate then when i have the screen off for a few mins it would quickly drop 2-3% (within the few mins that i had the screen off) then it would slow down again, this is why i think its an estimate. dont get me wrong its not too bad for an estimate but if you ever used cognition rom or any other roms on other phones with good battery mods you will see what a really accurate battery monitor is, you can set a timer to it...

I've had a Captivate since release back on July 17th (or 18th I forget) so I fully understand who DG is (And I'm not to happy he jumped ship completely on this phone like he did but it's his choice and it is what it is). Ok so even though the hardware on the Atrix isn't capable of reading the battery in single percents only in 10's it still reports the actual mV of the battery. If you open "Spare Parts" app for example and go to "Battery Information" it displays your current mV of your battery. Now almost all modern Lithium Poly batteries are considered "Full" at 4.2 mV (Obviously this can vary slightly even within the same battery for the same phone model due to manufacturing tolerances) and "Empty" at 3 mV (I think it's REALLY dead at around 2.5 mV but the phone has a built in safety feature to prevent this because if it drops to low the battery wont even take a charge). Here's a link Lithium Poly Battery to this data. All the Circle Battery Widget is doing is assuming your battery is at 100% at 4.2 mV and 0% at 3 mV, then if just divides your current mV by 4.2 and turns the decimal into a percent and now you have your display %.
Now the reason it may drop faster like you said is because the phone OS itself reports the battery mV and I doubt it checks it every second. So say the phone OS checks the mV every 5 minutes (Just guessing I have no idea) and it reports RIGHT before you play a game or a few youtube videos then you stop playing (phone still shows the same percent) and put your phone to sleep then wake it 2 minutes later and now you've lost 2% battery "Doing nothing" but really the OS just didn't refresh your battery mV before you turned the screen off.
As far as how I know Circle battery widget does this is basically common sense, obviously it isn't it getting info directly from the system battery percent because it won't read any more accurate than 10's. The only way it could get even a relatively accurate percent is by the method I stated above because obviously most other battery meters are just repeating whatever the system is stating in 10's.
That's basically all I've gathered about how it works, I could be completely wrong and if I am I'd love to hear from someone who actually knows because I love to know how stuff works

Hello
I am the author of Battery Monitor (SIMMO Publications), if you're getting 1% values then your phone is either returning accurate values through the Android API, or there exists a system charge_counter file that is updated by the operating system. It does not estimate the value.
Motorola devices (Atrix, Droid2, DroidX), for some reason, choose to ignore the 1% values stored in this system file. The file is hidden, and not many people know about it (apparently). But it IS updated, so these 10% only Motorola devices are actually capable of 1% level changes.
I hope that helps.
I can't post in the Development area yet, so I'm posting it here.
2nd day using CyanogenMod 7, and here's my feedback:
- Very stable
- It seems to have solved my Nexus One touchscreen issue. I've tried CM6 and Enomther before, and this was never resolved before.
- The Wifi is stable with no drop (is it because of the new radio in CM7 ??)
- Super duper battery life!! Even way better than Enomther. By noon, usually I'm at 81-85% with very light activities (browsing, reading emails, etc) and nothing running on the background except Corporate Email and a couple GMail accounts sync. Today it's still 89% and this is fabulous. Note that I've set the Wifi to "Never Sleep". The battery life is SIMPLY AMAZING!
- I can't notice speed differences with ENomther.
- I couldn't care less for the animation or eye candies, but the touchscreen keyboard fix, wifi stability, and long battery life are very important. FYI I wiped everything (data, Dalvik Cache, battery stats, rotation, etc)
THANK YOU, CYANOGEN!
you should judge your battery on a whole days worth of use. The ~5% difference in a couple hours could easily be made by one app or game being run. I'm getting ~36 hours out of my MIUI setup. Though I block and limit many background syncs.
No doubt CM7 is great, huge step from what many android phones are stuck with out there. ps, CM7 doesn't include a radio.

I don't think daily usage is a good way to determine battery life.
Best way is to see how much % drops overnight.

Haven't had CM7 final long enought to check but first night I lost around 10%.

GPS locks in seconds, but I haven't done an extensive test with it yet. I'm going to use it (I have both CoPilot and Sygic Aura).

Search for and install "dewonkificator." It has fixed all of my call related problems, along with several others.
I also think that Gingerbread should be given much of credit for the Wifi fixes.
Im finding my battery getting eaten up noticeably faster from CM6 but its worth it for all the fixes/features.
best battery life ever, I pick my phone up ... IT'S COLD!
I've been using Kang-o-Rama 1.1, which is based on CM 6. I tried several different kernels and settled on the wildmonk kernel (2.6.35.10 though I'm sure there are newer versions now), because it gave me a similar excellent battery life as others have described here. I had been using various ROMs before that (those that are close to stock, with a few nice features added) and always had pretty bad battery life.
CM 7 therefore isn't necessary if you want stability (e.g. a phone that always works as a phone, no random crashes etc.) and excellent battery life. I'm cautious about CM 7 (and the soon-to-be-released Kang-o-Rama based on CM7) until the "wonkiness" issue is fully addressed - I don't consider having to install the dewonkifier program fully addressing the issue!
I like to have the latest and greatest, but having a potentially unstable phone is really annoying! Just have to be patient. Regardless, Cyanogen and everyone working on custom ROMs must be applauded for their efforts, don't know what I'd do without them
I have to say I'm a bit miffed about not being able to post in the development forum, which is the main reason I read xda...
Has anyone noticed a difference in battery performance between the first discharge and subsequent discharge cycles on the later cm7 builds? I've noticed that my phone will drains faster the over longer uptimes. The first discharge cycle after a boot discharges at an average rate of 3% to 5% per hour, averaged over a full day. Use over a full day for me is fairly light with some texting, one or two brief calls, and maybe some web and facebook. The battery is usually over 60% in after 8 or 10 hours on battery on that first discharge. After a full recharge, the drain rate on the next discharge seems higher. I've observed that similar use through a second discharge cycle is typically 5% per hour or more. I sometimes struggle to get more than 10 hours use out of the phone on that second charge.
I have noticed the Status Bar app seems to account for an abnormally large amount of battery use. Where's My Droid Power app reports the Status Bar consistently as the top power consumer on the device. Status Bar's power consumption in that first discharge cycle is usually reported around 10%, but jumps to 30% on subsequent discharge cycles. Other known power hogs consistently consume 5% to 6% according to the app. I don't know how the power monitoring app derives its data, but nothing shows up as strange in the Spare Parts battery history. I'm beginning to wonder whether the "where's my droid power" app's statistics gathering might be being baised somehow. It leads me to question my data.
So, does anyone have similar observations on frst discharge versus second discharge rates? Does anyone know what the Status Bar app actually does, and whether it might actually be contributing to higer battery drain? Finally, is there a better power monitoring app i should be looking at to track down rogue apps?

There is a bug in the status bar process. If you have battery percent enabled in the status bar, when you plug in the charger, the status bar process uses 10-30% CPU for the next hour during charging. If you disable batt percent and charge this does not happen.
I looked at the source code and was gonna try a fix soon.
On previous cyan 6, charging temp disabled the percent. Also this slows things down and home screen scrolling gets super choppy.

I do have battery percentage enabled, so that could explain that. Thanks for the feedback! I could convince myself I tried disabling battery percentage before, but who pays attention to the little things when you're having so much fun?
Oh, and an update on the battery discharge thing. I left my Wifi on full time after my last full charge, and i'm about to roll over 2 days runtime with about 10% left. I haven't seen performance like that since i enabled a Corporate Email account.
Yeah I'm getting superb standby battery life on cyan #39 right now. Idle current draw overnight for 8 hours, with wifi on, is seeing 7 mA current drain steadily.
CyanogenMod 7 not working!
I just upgraded to the new CyanogenMod 7 on my Nexus 1 and unfortunately it is not loading. It gets to the CyanogenMod screen, with the Android guy on the stake board and the arrow going around him, but it just wont go passed that screen. It has never gone passed this screen.
What i have tried:
Taking out the battery and restarting it
letting it run for 30 minutes
If anyone one can help me I would greatly appreciate it
Regards,
What kernel are you guys using on CM7 for such awesome battery life? I've tried stock for one week, then redstar with minimal improvement.
I'm coming from a Nexus 4 and definitely enjoying battery improvements from the Note 4. Having said that, it seems this battery drains more quickly than I expected... especially when I'm not even using it. I do have location services on, as I did on my Nexus 4 - but it seems I *almost always* have the little location icon blinking in my notification tray
I took some screenshots which show the drop in battery, and at the end when I'm at 12% it was only 2h45m of screen on time

I'm not aware of any way I can actually dive into Android System/Android OS to actually find out WHAT'S causing this battery drain...
Am I expecting more than this phone can deliver? Anything I can look into or change to improve battery life?
Settings / Battery. Today my battery was horrible, found Lookout was the issue.
