Short question:
Do I need to update my SPL and the Radio? SPL and the Radio versions mentioned on haykuro's google code website seem to be different than what I have on my phone. Here's the fastboot mode information from my phone (with three skateboarding Androids at the bottom)

I had the stock G1, followed this awesome tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480 to root my phone and installed JF1.42 on my phone. Last night, I decided to try haykuro's 5.0.1Gr2 and ended up with "Build Number: unknown" in the About Phone section and unable to download any apps from the android market (I guess due to the missing keys and proper identification).
And I found that haykuro had a newer version of radio listed on his website and also his own SPL. So, I am wondering... should I upgrade to haykuro's versions? TIA

Here's a good reference for everything related to the haykuro builds:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Dream__haykuro_Cupcake
Here's the short version, though:
I haven't really looked at the new haykuro SPL, but from the version info you posted, you currently have HardSPL. This is fine - the new SPL isn't required.
As for the radio - it's recommended that you use the radio image meant specifically for the build you are using, in general.
Also, it looks like you've got the RC33 version of the radio, and I personally had no problems using the RC33 radio with the haykuro 5.0.2H build, but others have experienced weird signal problems, so if you start having signal issues, I'd update, otherwise it's just up to you.
Hello,
I am running 5.0.1G (not R2) and only updated the radio from his site.
Mine was running fine on the RC33/RC9 radio, but heard battery life was better with thenewer radio....which it is!
I have not changed the SPL, still running the original Hard SPL and it works fine.
Thanks for the quick responses guys. I will update the Radio then and leave the SPL alone, for now .
I have a question about SPL, maybe a noob's one, so please forgive me.
According to what I have read so far, u must have the latest Radio in order to avoid bricking your phone when updating to the Haykuro's SPL. My baseband version is 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I, not exactly the same as the one posted on Haykuro's page, which is 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I. Is that a big deal ? I really want to move to Haykuro's SPL or at least another one beside stock's SPL.
Thanks in advance
The haykuro spl or more commonly known around here as the danger spl is only needed if you plan on using or trying a hero rom, for any other rom like jf or cyanogen you can use your stock spl or hard spl. If you do plan on using a hero rom just go to android devolpment section, click on a hero rom and it will have a link to the lastest radio and spl that is needed. Just make sure that you flash the radio first before the spl or u will have a brick
Okay, n00b question here since I've never understood the deal with the MT3G 1.2...
its a Hybrid of a 32A and a 32B
Hboot says its a 32A but it runs on a 32B kernel...
So here is my question.
Will a 32B rom work on it ???
For example XM Froyo Sense 2.2 a G1 ROM.
or mus the ROM be patched/ported to run on the MT3G1.2 like the "old" SuperD Black?
if you feel daring for best speed:
install the new radio and hboot along with ezterry kernel
turn all animations off ^^

I'm already running the ezterry #3 (2.6.34.7) Kernel on CM6.1
I have an already rooted MT3G 32B been using a Verizon HTC Droid Eris for some time now and things seem a lot more confusing here in the Magic forums with all the 32A/B, MT3G, Fender, headphone jack, and ROMs that are made for the G1. So I just want to be sure that I don't blow anything up.
Current specs:
SPL - 1.33.2005
RADIO - 2.22.19.26I
Here's what I have from searching around a bit:
SPL - Engineering SPL 1.33.2010
RADIO - 2.22.28.25 Is there a recovery .zip flashable version of this radio somewhere? I seem to be unable to search for "radio 2.22.28.25" and come up with results.

I wouldn't mess with the radio. You don't need it.

Thanks I just figured I'd do it if there were an update. Haven't run into any problems flashing radios on my Eris as of yet *cross fingers* I know to check my MD5's every step of the way (after download, on the sd card itself) with that kind of stuff but I'll skip it if there's no real improvements made.
And the 1.33.2010 SPL is the way to go now? I noticed a lot of *OLDER* (pre 2010) threads mentioning the 1.33.2005 SPL as being the one to have in my course of searching for a good ROM.
You are all good... There are no proven benefits of upgrading your spl... leave it as it is.
Dear friends,
I recently rooted my T-Mobile MT3g w/audio jack (I found this particular device very confusing). Installed CM 6.1 on it w/ ezBiffTestKernel20101024-ebi0_S.zip to avoid green tinting.
It's too bad I still have an old radio on the phone (upgraded from 1.6)
so my biggest concern is choosing right radio / SPL
I guess 2825 or 2708 (G) is the right choice, but what about SPL? I'd prefer engineered for future tweaks
My parameters are:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON G (well I guess its not real 32A since its not Fender or Magic)
HBOOT-1.33.0013
RADIO-2.22.23.02
Any suggestion for radio / SPL versions will be highly appreciated!
I can even do some donations for the project, just tell me how and where.
PS. OK, more simple question
Can I flash 1.33.2010 and 2708 (2825) radio?
Also can they be flashed via Amon RA's custom recovery (from sd card)?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Read me.
Hey XDA... I'm a bit of a noob, but have been trolling for a great deal and learned a lot and tested many a ROM. One of the phones I've been working with has these specs:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0013 (SAPP31000)
CPLD-13
Oct 21 2009,,22:33:27
From my understanding this goes by many names... Which one(s) of those should I use to search for compatible ROMs? I am particularly trying to get ICS working for the WIFI tether aspect. the only ROM I have been able to get working is GB cyanogenmod for the HTC Magic. I'm trying to repurpose this phone so that it will connect to a bluetooth DUN and then share that connection over WIFI as a sort of BT to WIFI repeater so that I can get just a few more meters for my roommate to borrow my connection with. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

That device is the mytouch 3g with the 3.55mm headphone Jack. It runs roms made for the HTC dream/g1 and for the 32b sapphire/magic. Most of the roms for it are found in the g1 development section. Cm7 works on it reasonably well. The only really working ics rom for it is united ics, which has not been touched by its lead developer for almost a year (I've been busy)

The OP's HBOOT says it's a 32a. Wouldn't he need a 32a ROM?
No, it does NOT mean that. His hboot says he has a 1.33 series spl, a 2.22 series radio, and a cpld of 13. This tells you that he needs to run a rom with an ebi0 kernel (and not a 2708+ one, that won't boot on cpld 13).
There are 3 main variants of the dream/sapphire. The 32b is what the g1 and original mytouch 3g are. They have 192mb ram total (some reserved for camera and radios and such, leaving you with almost 100mb left) run 1.33 series spls and 2.22 series hboot and use kernels build for such a config (ebi0). There is an updated radio and spl (2.22.28.25 or 2.22.27.08 radio and 1.33.0013 spl) that allow access to 15mb of additional ram (usually leaving roms with 109mb). Kernel devs labeled kernels built for this configuration 2708+.
Then there is the 32a. I've never owned a 32a device so this may have errors. It has 288mb ram, and can run a couple different radio combinations. It can run the same configuration as the 32b, at the cost of half your ram. The "old radio" setup consists of a 1.33 series spl and a 3.22 series radio. This runs ebi1 kernels. (The 32b can actually run this radio, but there are little benifits and doing so isn't very common. I've mostly seen people with a "Rogers dream" (it shipped with a 3.22 radio apparently) try to escape this setup. There then is the "new radio". This is a 6.35 radio and 1.76 spl. This is found on devices shipping with sense, and behaves more like an HTC hero than a magic. Flashing the 6.35 on a 32b device will cause a brick (and if I'm remembering correctly, the device didn't even respond to jtag).
And last, but not least, is the device in the op. It is a T-Mobile mytouch 3g 1.2. Is has 288mb ram, a headphone Jack (not present on any other model), reports cpld 13 is hboot, and strictly runs the 1.33.0013 spl with a 2.22 series radio. The update allowing 15mb additional ram for the 32b doesn't work here because the spl that allows that was our spl from the start. Flashing anything other than the 1.33.0013 (or the modded 1.33.0013d) spl from the 1.33 series will make half your ram vanish and your headphone jack not exist to the rom. This device also runs ebi0 kernels,.found in 32b roms.
For 32b and 32a old radio roms, installing the appropriate kernel is all that's needed to get it running on the other device. For roms that are built for the 6.35 radio, its very similar to porting from the HTC hero.
This device can be quite confusing if you know nothing of the variants.

Thanks for the clarification. I saw 32A in the HBOOT output and jumped to the wrong conclusion.
