Does anyone know of any good app that prompts you after a call to add a contact thats not in the phonebook?
Wow, I think I remember it doing that on my phone, and now it doesn't. Could be when I was using the Dialer One replacement.

Yeh, i was using Dialer One too and got accustomed to it but the buttons are too small on Dialer One so i opted to switch back to stock...i saw an app somewhere but the name i dont remember:-$
Both stock (Wysie-modified? I'm using CM) and Dialer One do that.

Is there a way to replace the default dialer on the x10 with something better?
Its slow..the contact list could be improved and speed dial isn't really speed dial as it opens a new menu with sms or other options
ALSO ... No contact suggestions

Not good for Android 1.6.
2.x required
I use thai dialer - look it up on the market - similar to dealer one but not as good...
Not sure if this changes in 2.2, but the stock dialer is horrid compared to HTC, it isn't the worst thing in the world, but I am surprised there aren't more dialers available. I was wondering what people use for a dialer, do you usually download a 3rd party app? Use a dev-made dialer?
Just have not had this so long, I would love to just hear the responses.
Thanks so much in advance (and can we stick this to 2.1? The dialer may change in 2.2 but I have stuck with 2.1)
Dialer in 2.2 is not any better. In fact it logs your sms as call logs so for somone like me who goes through 6000 ( literary) texts a month it becomes annoying. I'm using "diar one". Its fast and has a lot more cutomization options. Give it a shot. It's free on the market.

My rom disables this. Can I ask? What don't you guys like about it?
cd's or tapes?
Hi. What rom r u running? I'm on dk28 and my text logs show up in my call logs. I can switch to missed or dialed calls through the setting but that is not the friendliest way. I liked the stock one but since I went to 2.2 the daler anoyed me a bit.

I am on 2.1 on the Quantum ROM but I am 99% sure it is the stock dialer, maybe colored differently.
What I don't like about it is that when you start typing someone's name in the htc dialer, i.e. you start typing "aro" it will pull up "aron" and other names with "aro" in it or the numbers in it, and you can scroll down through the names.
With this dialer, if you are trying to say call David, you may need to type "DAVID" before it actually shows up because when you hit "D,A,V" you can't scroll through them all, it gives you ONE suggestion.
Maybe it's just personal preference, I just wish I knew how to update the .apk better, a 3rd party sounds a little iffy.
Try FastDialer. It is fast and pretty complex.

On your stock dialer start typinyg D A V then to the right of where u r typing an arrow should appear (righ above the "3 DEF" button) click that arrow and you should have a list of names that contain D A V or the associated numbers. That's assuming yu have other names or numbers that are similar to D A V. Let me know if it worked. Thx.

I like "Dialer One" a lot. It's free on the market and has all the features I expect from a good dialer.
Hi,
I'm running CM7 at the moment. Does anyone has a suggestion for a good dialer?
Patrick
Dialer one is okay

Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
@lukyjay:
I've reviewed this thread and it seems like a legitimate request for a Dialer application which is typically classified as a Theme/App - no action taken.
dialer one is ok
dialer2 is better
Whenever i'm on a stock rom i use Youlu.
atakephone is a very good dialer. in my opinion way better than dialer one or 2 or even the htc dialer.
its not for free but very cheap (~1,50€)
if you come from sense use dialer2
it rocks
dialer one
After trying DialerOne for a long time and now using Dialer2 (which is pretty, but very slow) I still find that they're both inferior to the Sense dialer :/. I wish the "stock" CM dialer were better, as right now I feel stuck with a slow dialer due to needing the search capabilities of Sense-like dialers.
Also, DialerOne didn't display contact images in call history despite displaying them fine in the contacts list.
I downloaded yesterday "atakephone", haven't yet tested it fully, but it really looks promising. Worth a try.

youlu is very nice, or dialer one if you want something less pretty and more basic.
If only there was an "old fashioned" phone dialer app where you rotate the wheel until you get to the number and repeat for each digit.

I am planning to buy HTC MyTouch 4G soon.
Before that I want to ensure the following.
Is it possible to enter numbers in dialer using the optical track ball by moving the cursor?
I used to enter numbers using the direction keys in a Huawei mobile phone i had.
Entering numbers in touch screen may be superior but i have special needs to be eyes free on the phone while working.
Thats why
Your findings would be the deciding factors for me so please help me.

Just tried on my wifes phone which is stock 2.2.1 and you are unable to use the trackpad to select numbers. Conversely, I am using faux123's aosp rom and you can use the trackpad to select numbers and make the call. Only thing is when you open up the dialer, it opens on your call log first, so you have to scroll to the left for the dialer and then down...you may want to stick to a physical keyboard to ensure accuracy though...

While you working, are you ok to use voice commands? MyTouch has Genius button, that seems to work nice for me.
Long press button, Say "Call *name*" and it works.

Thank you very much for your quick reply.
So you are able to select numbers via vanilla Android Dialer and are not able select numbers via HTC Sense dialer using the optical trackball.
Am i right ?
Once again i sincerely appreciate your efforts.

Actually my problem lies in dialing phone numbers not already stored in my mobile phone's address book.
I use Cyberion Voice Speed Dial to dial phone numbers that are already stored in the mobile phone.

Try to say a 11 or 10 digit number and check it's accuracy.
Like 08026783377 Or 09475635452.

Hey, did you know that there is a Mytouch Slide that is out now on the tmobile website that has a full slide out keyboard...I think that would be the way to go
Actually I hold and use mobile phones single handedly.
so slide out keyboards are not comfortable for me

One of the big features in the new Galaxy was the addition of Whitepages built into the dialer.
Did Verizon force Samsung to remove that as well?
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Looks like Verizon removed this feature. If enough people tell them they are upset about it they may bring it back, but probably not
It's Verizon. Since when do they listen.
They want you to pay for their ID program

Spoke with Samsung. Verizon forced them to remove it due to the paid for ID program.
Hopefully enough people bother them that they end up bringing it back.

I found this feature by downloading "Any cut" from the play store and then scrolling through the list and finding "identify unsaved numbers" you can then turn it on from there.
Very similar In Nova Launcher... Create a new activities widget... Scroll down to the third phone choice (it has the most choices)... Then select "identify unsaved numbers"... That will create a shortcut.. Open it and flip the switch.
Yeah there are numerous programs out there.
True Caller, Whitepages ID, etc.
I would have liked not to download an extra program when it's built into the dialer.
I started a forum in the Verizon Community.
Hopefully if we get enough people to annoy them, they will bring it back.

can always install it via the app store. it doesn't integrate with the dialer like the samsung version was supposed to, but it will pop on top of the default dialer and give you an alert. just a thought.
This looks really good. I"m currently using CallApp, based on pulling info from social sites, Facebook, Twitter ect. but I want something more.
It is possible to get the builtin whitepages semi working. (the caller id works but searching for local business via the contacts search bar doesn't seem to) However doing so requires a rooted phone. If you go to your system/app folder you should see a folder called SmartCallProvider. Inside is the whitepages apk. make sure it was the right permissions rw-r--r-- then go to your system/csc folder. here you want to add this line to your feature.xml file.
Code:
<CscFeature_Common_ConfigSvcProviderForUnknownNumber>whitepages,whitepages,on</CscFeature_Common_ConfigSvcProviderForUnknownNumber>
reboot phone and it should be working. I've only recieved one unknown number call since then but whitepages seems to work as it was identified as a scam number.

you also need to enable the "identify unsaved numbers" setting in your dialer, which should now be available after preforming the modification.
