Hi guys!!
Is there any way to full format htc hd device without using task29?
Two weeks ago I flashed ROM via SD card, and since then ActiveSync doesn't work and I can't establish connection with my HTC HD and computer.
Now I can flash ROM only through an SD card. When I get into Bootloader mode does not recognize USB, but remains on the Serial....
Hard reset does not help because it only erase contacts, emails and other crap. I need something to wipe the device.
Any possible ideas??!!! Please....
didnt you by any chance disable USB connection in your activesync settings?
check that, maybe that prevents you from connecting...
if that's not the case, try updating your drivers...
if that fails, then AFAIK Task29 is the only way to format your device...
I tried to change everything in USB2PC and it didn't work. I took the device to servis and the repairman told me that he doesn't know what is the problem. He thought that maybe some port is broken or something like that and will replace it but none of that. Everything in device works fine. That he told me.
I think I made a mistake. When I flashed ROM via SD it all went great but in the end (after message: update complete 100%) I didn't make a soft reset. Instead I pulled the battery out to re-started device. Could it be the reason?!?!
So this AFAIK task29... what does it mean?!?!
how can i do this?! can you be more specific, some steps or something... please
and thank you for reply
oh yes, and i forgot to mention, when I connect device to PC it start to chargining battery normaly so can't be problem with USB cable as well
be sure to check your activesync or Windows Mobile Device Center settings...click the settings for mobile device or similiar and make sure Allow USB connection is checked...
AFAIK means "as far as I know"..
Task29 is a process with which you can completely erase your system partition...this little process solves a lots of issues..
Let me help you out.
First of all, connect your phone via USB to computer in bootloader.
Run USPL
Download the attached package - it is Task29 with Blackstone Radio 1.17
Extract archives and run Task29.exe
Follow the instructions - it is the same as flashing process
After task29 your phone will reboot but wont boot because there is no OS.
Take out battery and get into bootloader again.
Connect to PC via USB, run USPL and flash your favorite ROM.
I recommend Topix or Duttys.
Let me know if this worked out for you.
PS: Sorry that there are so many archives but I could not get it to smaller size
PS: Also do not forget to backup the data!!! this erases completely everything...

OR You can try to flash a Stock ROM from SD ... probably works like Task29
Try using MTTY. Check firs for bad blocks. There is a command that will format the device.
Check Hermes WIKI, there are a lot of explanations about MTTY and how to use it. Also there are explanations about commands. Just be careful, you can destroy your device.
As far as I know mtty works on all win devices.
Cheers
I can't use anything...
The device can't recognize USB when I connect usb cable with it (it stays on SERIAL in bootloader), so I can't use task29, MTTY or similar applications or even flash new rom with RUU.
I think there is a malfunction on motherboard.
I tried to flash a stock rom with stock SPL 1.14 and this what happened:
It stays in bootloader mode with this error report
BLAC100 32M
SPL-1.14.0000
MicroP-BlackStone (LED) v6
Upgrade ROM code error
Please try again (in green field)
I tried to flash stock rom again and I get error code 00028002.
Stock ROM can't be flashed through SD card so now I can't use my guarantee......
so what do you do next to fix ..sorry my ingles
sollution!!
delete your previous connections in activesync, and then you need to HARDSPL your device, and after that you will be able to install romms from your sd card
there is a Thread for Task 29 for the Blackstone, please refer to it to minimize

Thanks for the reply.
I tried that. Unfortunatelly it doesn't work for me. The progress bar goes to 100% and after restart I still have OliNex loader. I don't have the step which says "Unplug cable".
Some other ideas maybe ?

That message appears on the device (on the colored bars screen). Maybe you thought it should appear in Windows.
It worked for me

I know it's on the device. It did, when I did the hard spl. Now when I'm trying to get back to original spl (device stucked in windows boot screen) I don't have that message, but the process goes through. Unfortunately without any result.

Stucked windows screen is a different problem. This method is ok only for working device.
In this case this is the only one idea:

I did try to put back a french ROM. I don't know if it was the original because unfortunately when I first flashed it I was kind of beginner in flashing HTC's, but I tried with the only original french ROM that I found on this forum. The process goes through, but yet the result is the same. Is there any kind of command to fully erase (format) the memory (beside the bootloader) and then try to load a ROM ?
Same for me with restoring SPL ...it doesn't work.
And my device is almost at the same state of damage as yours. See my thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402765
Also the mtty and task8 just restarts my device. Nothing more, nothing less!
So there is no way of restoring SPL with entering the bootloader manually? Not even a mSD-Card Trick out there? I need to get it done because of warranty ;/
You stucked in Olipro hard-spl, this is why restore spl not works...
And unfortunatelly you can not flash spl with micros-sd.
But you can try to flash rom with micro-sd card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=384084&highlight=guide
Or ask Olipro, maybe he can help you.
Well I am able to flash my Rom the usual way with USB connection.
But no way of restoring the SPL ;(
"So there is no way of restoring SPL with entering the bootloader manually? Not even a mSD-Card Trick out there? I need to get it done because of warranty ;/"
I do not understand exactly...
Did you try restore original spl with manual bootloader?
you run SSPL from Windows Mobile, then flash a stock SPL NBH, job done.
the whole *point* of Hard-SPL is that it can't be overwritten when it performs a flash so that if anything screws up you don't end up locked out of reflashing in the event something screws up.

Sounds easy *hehe* BUT i can't access Windows Mobile anymore, that is my big problem. So my device will be picked up by O² in a few days, so i have to get the original SPL back without accessing Windows Mobile ;(
Any suggestion?
@fktsndr: no, thats why i have put a question mark behind it I just need a way of downgrading to the Original SPL without access to Windows Mobile. Maybe i should be sorry for my english

So...
You have hard-spl on your machine
You can not restore spl followed the guide in post 2 (WITHOUT manual bootloader)
You can not access your windows mobile (WM does not boot)
You freeze on startup screen
You can not start you phone with steps in post 6
Am I right?
If yes, you stucked in bootloader. And unfortunatelly I can not help you...Maybe Olipro.

Well seems like something like this.
See I have no error because of invalid flashing. I had slight water damage. But some days later my device was working again for a whole day.
Next day it didn't work anymore.
When i startup my device and the WM-Splash shows up it makes "bring" and device turns off.
When i plug in the AC charger i can't even get beyond the O2-Splash.
But I can enter the bootloader and flash what I want, it works ;/
I am also able to connect with MTTY, maybe there is a way with repairing it through MTTY?
Full description of my problems here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402765
But if i cant get rid of the problems i have to send it to warranty by tomorrow or monday and i think they will notice that i don't have the original SPL on it. So they will screw me ;(((
So, as I am not a noob to computers I would try ANYTHING to get it back on my own!
Is there also no way of restoring it by using the microSD-Card? So is there no way without Windows Mobile? Not even the holy MTTY? Or any way of debugging it by MTTY to see whats going wrong?
I'm screwed!
P.s. I have also tried another battery in the o² shop....didn't fix it ;(

Yes but on "task 8" my device doesn't behave as it should be. It just restarts doing nothing.
Seems like i just have to hope the guys at the service center will not recognize my "not original" SPL. 1% chance ;(
Well thanks for now fktsndr.
Seems like there is really no way of restoring it without Windows Mobile ;(
I thought there would maybe be a "Low Level"-Method of accessing the device and restoring SPL.
Can't think of that there is no way of formatting the device on its lowest level (mtty) or transferring the original SPL per MTTY. Hmm...there should always be a way
Olipro, no way? ;(
if I remember right, the polaris hardSPL is based on an MFG bootloader.
this means you can use mtty commands (mw) to unpatch the write protection then flash the stock SPL.
if I don't remember right, and it is not MFG, then you can still use another mtty command with a special file, but this is more complicated and was not fully tested. you can contact me in PM and we can see.
(you could transfer SPL via mtty, but that is also blocked in hardspl because the mtty transfer uses same code to flash the SPL in this SPL common base)
by the way task 8 is exactly designed to just do a soft reset. nothing wrong with that command.
they really meant task 28. this does a hard reset. you can try that. I guess you already did, but just in case!
edit: I just remembered another way if task 28 doesn't help. ifyou don't mind that the device will stop booting SPL, then you can just do task 2a command in mtty. this will erase SPL, and because of hardSPL overwrite protection it will fail to flash it back from the temporary RAM backup.
the result is that the device will not even boot SPL, it will be black screen. it will boot to the radio bootloader only and O2 won't know what SPL was on it before erase.
I decided it's best to open another topic, as the subject has changed and the other topic seems to have died more or less.
I have found out that the problem with my HD2 is that the radio is corrupted. However, I failed every time I tried flashing a new radio, even though I tried both USB and SD card methods.
Is there any way I can format the part of the memory where the radio is? I would also like to mention the fact that task29 failed too, as it never goes over 0%.
For anyone who doesn't know what my problem is: the device will not go further than a white screen of death when booting. I can get into the bootloader, but that seems to be useless up to now.
I would like to point out the fact that I successfully flashed a custom ROM via SD card, but that made no difference whatsoever.
boot to bootloader, what does it say next to 'spl'?
assuming the answer to the first part is something like ''x.xx.hspl'' then try flashing a new radio. Go for, example, 2,10 radio, that way it doesnt matter what rom is on there, it should work.
If teh answer to teh first part is ''x.xx.0000'' then hspl is not installed, and you should start over with hspl2 or hspl3

I have tried several radios, such a 2.07, 2.10, 2.12 and neither of them worked.
I currently have 1.42.HSPL installed, so it should.
USB does nothing: one time it got to 1% then failed because of "the image being corrupt", and the other 100 times I tried it never went past 0%.
SD card is no better: the progress bar fills up then it says:
00018003
LEOIMG.nbh - FAIL
RADIO_V2 - FAIL
Update terminate - UPDATE FAILED
And that's it.
i should stop using sd card, for a start. Stick to one method (usb) and the possible problems immediately halve.
First off i would return to a stock rom. In my case i would use teh original o2 1.43 stock rom, but you can use the 1.66 wwe if you arent sure of your stock.
boot into bootloader and physically check that hspl is still installed - it can be removed by sd card flashing, even if teh rest of teh flash fails, so always worth double checking, not just assuming that it is still installed.
assuming it says 1.42.hspl as you expect, and not anything ending .0000, then connect to usb and wait for teh word 'serial' to become 'usb'
When it does, on your pc run the stockrom.exe file.
Please post any resulting success/errors..
(oh and dont make the newb mistake of leaving a rom image on your sd card, else it will try and flash that.
Step 1: Downloading WWE 1.66.405.2 from another thread I found here on XDA.
Step 2: Formatted SD card and put it back into the device as it was, empty.
Step 3: Physically checked that my bootloader says 1.42.HSPL and it does.

Step 4: Loaded the phone into bootloader and connected the cable, so that it says "USB" instead of "Serial".
Step 5: Run as administrator the _HTC HD2_RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship I downloaded earlier.
Step 6: Went through all the steps indicated by the installer and it began.
It's 17:35 here and progress is 0%. I will be waiting 10 more minutes, then edit this post.
EDIT: It's 17:42 and the Update Utility says:
ERROR [262]: UPDATE ERROR
The ROM Update Utility has encountered communication errors during the update process. The program will guide you step-by-step to recover from the errors so you can continue with the update.
Step 7: I click on "Recover", then follow the four simple steps to recover my device.
Step 8: The Update Utility goes back to the "Update" button screen, and the whole process repeats over and over.
Any other advice?
SECOND EDIT: I forgot to mention that before clicking the "Update" button, I noticed that there was a blank space where the current image name should have been. Maybe this has something to do with all that is happening?

im in the same boat mate and have yet to get it working..mine doesnt fail flashing all the time, but quite often. same thing with the radio v2 fail. i can use bootlader no problem, use hspl to lock and unlock no problem, sometimes a flash goes ok with usb but quite often it doesnt, and when flash from sd to say put a stock rom and relock it it will quite often fail exactly like yours but other times it says its a good flash. if its a good flash itll hard reset like normal, but just wont boot past the white htc screen. i agree at this point, it has to be something related to the radio...whether its corrupt like you were saying or some kind of hardware failure
just a note it is odd that a number of us are all having the same issue..its not just a few anymore
heh ignore, ill re read
samsamuel said:
step 2....... why? did i not advise against sd card flashing? when you run the update on your pc it is restarting the phone, which is immediately flashing the rom from your sdcard,,,,, not the one on your pc.
the problem is that it immediately has removed hspl, and so the rom fails the region check.
remove the nbh from your sd card, and do all the other steps. you may have to reapply hspl, so run hspl2 and choose either 1.42.hspl or 1.66.hspl

heh, d;oh. ill re read and try again (it was the LEOIMG.nbh - FAIL RADIO_V2 - FAIL bits from teh earlier posts that had me thinking he was still using sd card, cos those are sd card flashing errors)
so with the communications erros, could be AV software, firewall, or simply wrong usb port. try all ports (im sure you have by now) and if poss try a whole different pc.

Also guys, if you are having trouble flashing from USB , try some basic troubleshooting, if you are sure everything on the phone is correct ...
Try different USB port, also USB hubs and flashing can be bad mojo ...
Try a set of usb ports on the back of the PC rather than the front.
Try a different PC
Try a different cable
I also know it sounds strange, but I have seen some anti virus cause a flash to fail because of active scanning and it tries scanning the files in the flash directory while the flash is going on and locks them ...
All I got .....
oh and if the rom you downloaded came as a zip, dont run it from within teh zip. extract it first.

thanks mate, cant speak for the op but ive tried 3 different computers (xp,vista,7) different cables, everything. seems like roms will flash but it doesnt recognize a radio when booting, hence the white screen with no rgd info..so stumped.
edit..tried many many stock and custom roms and just about every radio out
The thing is that you seem to need a non-corrupted ROM to flash a radio, and need a non-corrupted radio to flash a ROM. As we have neither of them, all I can say is good luck to the guys fixing it at the service center.
I have given up; I have LITERALLY tried every possible solution I could think of. Just for the sake of it, I'll make a list here:
1. Tried all USB ports available.
2. Tried installing different drivers for the Active Sync.
3. Tried task29 w/o MTTY.
4. Tried task29 with MTTY. (Successful, but useless)
5. Tried removing HSPL.
6. Tried changing HSPL.
7. Tried flashing custom ROM. (both USB and SD)
8. Tried flashing stock ROM. (both USB and SD)
9. Tried flashing radio. (both USB and SD)
10. Double (even triple) read all of your useful comments and posts, clicked and typed the hell out of my mouse and keyboard, googled for any possible term I could come up with which was related to our problem.
I have given up for today. Tomorrow morning, I`ll have access to another laptop and I`ll try performing the same operations there, hopefully there will be a difference. All I want now is to get rid of HSPL off that bootloading screen, so that the guys from HTC won't have any reason to decline my warranty.
If nothing works, I will microwave the device for 3-5 seconds, and hopefully it`ll stop booting.
If you guys have any other suggestions, do not hesitate.

but..(i'm sorry for that question :$) i dun know how to flash a new rom to my blackstone..i used search fuction and dummies guide also but..rofl i didn't get what they were takin about
so i was asking if someone could provide me with smplified way to install a new rom using HSPL
Thanks in advance and sorry for z long topic
basically, flashing a winmo phone is an easy process:
1. bootloader mode (power on with VOL- button pressed)
2. flashing
3. hard reset
however, there are a few preparations if your device was never flashed before, you need to install hspl on your phone and make sure you have the correct driver installed on your pc. the driver for the device in bootloader mode might vary from the driver used to sync the device, when switched on.
1. the driver:
if you have windows xp, connect the phone in bootloader mode and look, whether it changes from serial to usb on the bootloader screen, you should be fine by then.
on windows vista/7 you connect the device in bootloader mode, and might actually take some time for it to download another driver from windows update. if it changes from serial to usb, first try to connect using mtty, before attempting to flash, because the connection might not yet be stable and you might want to have a look at the thread (ref updating the usb drivers).
2. hspl
to quote the dummies' guide thread:
(HSPL2a) Place your phone into its bootloader.
(HSPL2b) Run HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex.exe from the download in step (HSPL1a) and follow it as normal.
(HSPL2c) If successful, go to step HSPL3. If the flashing process sits at 0% and you get Error [260] connection after some time, go to step (Troubleshooting).
pretty easy, in other words, just connect the device in bootloader mode and run the package on the pc, it will unlock the spl and flash hspl.
if all went well, you are ready to flash, download any rom you like from the rom development section, and flash it using the .exe file that comes with them, might be updater.exe, blackstone RUU.exe or something else. if your rom download only consists of an .nbh file, like ruu_signed.nbh or BLACIMG.nbh, download advanced RUU and use it to flash.
alternatively, if this is to complicated for you as a beginner, you can rename the rom file to BLACIMG.nbh (if it is not already named like that) and put it in the root of the sd card, by then entering bootloader mode, it should find the rom and give you detailed instructions on how to install it.
last step, hard reset, as described in the original manual, switch on, while pressing VOL- and VOL+ and follow the instructions onscreen.

download this, extract all the files, take micro SD out of device, connect device to active sync and then run HardSPLWrapper_Blackstone.exe on your pc, it will now start to flash a new SPL, when complete confirm you got it installed, go into bootloader mode (tricolour screen! {hold volume down and press the reset button under the back cover}) now verify the screen shows 1.56.OliNex, which is the new Hard-SPL version.
when complete you will be able to flash any rom to your touch hd/blackstone
note: if you do not flash a new rom you will have graphical issues with the current rom, however this gets fixed as soon as you flash a new rom
if you have any trouble, click me and go to the first post
good luck
hey all,
Wanted to do a clean installation of cyanogenm7,
Step by step:
entered bootloader
run task29
enterbootloader
install radio 2.15.50.14
enterbootloader
install magldr113_daf
thats it..
now, it can never use usb flasher (in order to install cwm) from magldr
for only 2-3 times it connected from USB in bootloader, and now it does not happen either. and I couldnt install cwm on that bootloader ofcourse.
windows faults; device not recognized..
did it brick? and.. why?
I'm leaving town for a business meeting tomorrow and have no backup phone right now.
save me please! =)
came home to try on a machine with XP (activesync present)
cant connect and also XP gave the same error..
device not recognized..
any ideas?
went back to laptop, win7x6
it didn't recognize at first, as usual
then it went USB on bootloader.. (did a restart first, and then it says HTC USB SYnc is successfully installed)
task29 'd again
fine
radio install began and, lost connection in the middle.
now says rom code error as normal, but again not recgnizing the device...
If aynone interested, or anyone else having the same problem at the future,
the phone is at the service and the mainboard's gonna be replaced.

Maybe your usb cable is damaged
Might help if you do a fresh reinstalled of windows 6.5 will erase all. And try again.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Premium App
if you were already running cm7 then all you needed to do to fresh isntall was boot into CWM and factory reset it and isntall the rom from zip
all those extra steps you have taken are pointless
My HD2 has no rom. Im able to access the bootloader, which says SPL-2.08.0000. I tried to install stock rom 2.10 and 3.14 from tmobile using 2gb MicroSD card, but phone gets stuck in the grayish screen saying "loading" or install in progress but actuall goes no where.
I can't do it via a USB connection because my computer keeps trying to install the device driver and it can't find it. So I think the MicroSD card is the only option buts its not working for me as I mentioned.
I'm new today to XDA, and dont know what other steps to take. Thanks in advance to all.
Update: At one point, it started the install and stopped with the message: Radio_v2 - RSA failed
The drivers you need fmto get the required HTC USB Synced connection in the bootloader is included in the Active Sync (for XP) and Windows Mobile Device Center (for Vista and Windows 7). Click on the guide linked in my sig as there is a link in the guide to the Microsoft site that has the both of them.
The radio fail message means it failed to install the radio version that is with the stock ROM so the install of the ROM was aborted. Maybe flashing via USB will work if not you may have a hardware issue.
I can't get my phone to load a rom either but I accidently tried to put a touch pro 2 rom on mines not paying attention so what I want to know is if their is a way to erase the memory for flashing I did a master reset with the phone off already anybody else ran into this problem if so do u know what I could do

The only thing I know of that you can do to "erase the memoy" as you said. is to one use MTTY or just a Task 29. Sorry I can not find the original tread on MTTY for HD2 but that one should still work for you. The best thing in my oppinion though is to just run a Task 29 as it is the easiest and does the same as the MTTY. plus jst so you know when you flash a stock ROM it runs a Task 28 (wich is pretty much the same thing, some do argue this fact though) before it flashes the ROM.
Go and check out recognized developer ksubedi's HD2 NAND Toolkit. It makes doing anything to the NAND ofthe HD2 very easy and simple, including Task 29.
Now the only concern I have is can you still get to the bootloader by powering on the HD2 while holding the volume down button down? Cause if not you you bricked the HD2 when you flashed the wrong ROM by accident. If you can you can still run th Task 29, oh and you have to have HSPL flashed to the HD2 to use the Task 29 also.
