Mac Compatibility - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hey guys, I really like all that I've read about the phone but I have one major worry which could possibly be a deal breaker
I was wondering if you can use the SGS as a modem on a mac in the same way you can use it on a PC? (Internet tethering)

you can use Wifi tethering

Thanks for the reply , sorry I'm a newbie to android. Just ordered from Vodafone

Enable usb debugging in the settings and then mount the device and it should work on mac, that's what I did.

Do you want to use your phone's internet for your pc? Then yes- it's possible with apps. (called tethering. search for wifi tether or usb tether in market or on xda...)
if you want to use your pc's connection - then probably not.

no i mean i donot have a wifi modem and i have adsl net modem and also with respect to battry problem in hd2 i prefer to use net with prob connection but many of builds did not have the internet pass through option
for this aim i like to know that is it posible to add this option to that kind of build as a for example apk software
I have the same issue, having the Internet Pass-Through function (which uses PC's connection on the phone) of Desire HD builds on the Desire builld would be great.
yap
its easy you can use your pc's wifi and turn it into a access point
and then using it trough the wifi
can't be easier than this
see,you left out the most important part: problem is that not all of the pc's have wifi!!!
There is also USB tethering, although you'll have to check if there's any builds with it working.
I don't bother with it as I use wifi tethering instead.
The program Connectify is working pretty good, to use my netbooks LAN connection as access point. Always use it abroad when in hotels without wifi and only wired internet. Works only with windows7 though.

I really feel the need to help the OP here. I don't have an answer to his question, but I do understand what he's asking for, and other people seem to be answering different things!!!
He want's to use a USB cable (not wifi) to allow his phone to use his PC's internet connection.
Tethering is irrelevant (that's using the phone's internet connection on the PC) and he does not have a wireless router so cannot use wifi on his phone.
In response to the OP, the only thing I've ever seen as a conclusive answer is that this cannot be done (there is no software that currently does it). That was an answer on a website from about 7 months ago though, and I am aware of the option on the Desire HD, so there is obviously a way to do it now.
I hope you find what you're looking for

IN the revolution HD 2.2 mdeejay NAND version - you have this option built in in this rom !!!
i used it - its working.
USB tethering is part of the Froyo OS. The problems you may have are that it does not work correctly with a lot of builds. Most of the HTC builds tend to work though.
Hmmm.... I also have the same problem.
I don't want to use the 3G Data connection for internet because it's expensive so it would be really useful to get internet through usb from a computer.
So far I only saw this option on M-Deejay's Revolution HD rom and for me it was kind of a heavy build. Worked kinda slow so I flashed a different rom which doesn't have the usb internet pass through.
I also tried Connectify. My phone connected to the computer's wireless but the internet didn't work. I tried disabling my firewall, opening ports, and other things but it just doesn't work. I think it has to do with the software not supporting all WiFi cards.
So now I'm having trouble getting on the internet with my phone to download apps. I have to go outside and look for some WiFi networks to do it and that kinda sucks
I think it finally works! I installed the latest Connectify beta version from here:
http://connectify.blogspot.com/2010/11/connectify-211-beta-up-for-testing.html
And it kinda works now! I think it's just a bit slow.

Does connectify work via USB, or is it just wifi?

[Q] Winphone as modem for Iconia

Hello.
I read a lot of threads here about Internet connexion sharing (wpa_supplicant, pdaNet and so on), but i'm still in doubt.
I have a Xperia X1 phone (Windows) with PdaNet. The Windows Start menu gives me also an "Internet sharing" option (by USB or BT).
My Iconia is rooted (3.1).
So, if I want to use my phone as a modem for my Iconia :
1. What must I do on my phone
2. What must I do on my Iconia
3. If I use an USB cable, must I plug it in the host socket or not ?
4. Is USB better than BT ?
I hope that someone, somewhere, can help me
Thanks.
My question is going down in the depths of the threads ...
No answer ! Nobody loves me !!!
Let's try again ... Maybe someone ...
dont know about winphone, but try to enable your phone as teethering. You must enable your phone as a wifi router which connect to 3g network.
Please check with joiku.com or similar application which run on ur winphone.
Then alter ur wpa apk to enable adhoc capabilites on a500.
Please remind yourself, 3.1 has problem with wifi. You might encounter connection error, obtaining ip. This is due to 3.1 a5000 common problem. Fix it by removing file from /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpd-wlan0.lease
Thank you very much ando.rulez. You saved my life, almost !!!
JoikuSpot is not compatible with my device, but I found WMWifiRouter. It works very well. It's more expensive (29$) but there is a trial for 21 days. You can connect also by USB or BT.
I put wpa_supplicant on the A500 and that's it !!!!!!!
glad to hear that. Now help the others and spread the experience....

[Q] optimus 7 as a wireless (wifi) adapter?

How can i use my wifi enabled mobile phone as wireless adapter for pc,for accessing internet on a desktop pc via usb(by not using mobile's 3g)?
I don't mean the usb tethering prosedure. If anybody knows. I have an old desktop pc without wireless adapter. I know that i could use a cheap wifi usb stick. I just want to know if this is possible.
While I know you can share the 3g connection with your phone, and you use to be able to use the computers wifi connection on the phone.... I don't think you could share the wifi connection with your computer. You can however, picked up a used usb one for a few dollars and a new one from newegg.com for $15.
While there may be a way to do it, .... you're asking a $300 phone to do the job of a simple adapter.

The currently available tethering on WP7 only shares your cellular data connection over WiFi.
There are indications that it might also be possible to share you're cellular data connection over e.g. USB, but I don't think that's been possible (even on unlocked devices) thus far.

a simple adapter (usb modem with a sim card) also does the job that usb tethering offers on optimus 7.
Thank you all for your answers. But i already know what are the currently available tethering (usb and with recently released firmware update internet sharing -cellular data- via wifi on wp7). I just asked if is possible to share phone's Wi-Fi connection to a pc (missing wifi adapter) via USB on wp7. That's all. If anybody knows please reply.

Well like I said, at the moment the only thing that works is Cellular -> WiFi.
WiFi -> USB might work after some registry changes but as far as I know nobody managed to this until now.

Bridging WiFi and USB tethering on Android

Hey guys
I saw something similar to this, but it never got resolved, so I was wanting to reopen it up.
I want to connect to a WiFi network on my android phone/tablet and usb tether to my pc. I want my pc to see the other computers on the wifi network though. I understand that you have to bridge the usb and wifi on the phone/tablet but i have absolutely no clue what the commands would be. Assistance would be greatly appreciated
Same problem
i too have a same kind of problem....waiting for some senior to react..:cyclops::cyclops:
Solution found!
This might help:
You can achieve this natively on some versions of Android (for me it works on KitKat 4.4.4). All you have to do is connect the phone to wi-fi as usual and then connect the USB cable and do a USB tether. Your computer should detect a new hardware - a "USB ethernet" or similar, you may need to install drivers for that, ymmv. Then it behaves just like any other network card. This works for all common operating system, including Windows (where the drivers part may apply).
...
Assuming your computer doesn't have a Wi-Fi card already and you're not rooted, I would probably just buy a USB Wi-Fi card. You can almost certainly buy one for less than the cost of PDANet.
