hey...i have been lookin around but not able to find any link for using android on my x2...i tried the link allowing x1 to boot into android...but somehow didnt work.....anyone who can help..???
Please, somebody show us the way to use Android on our Xperia X2
i'm not a hundred percent sure that anybody has ported android onto the x2 yet nor if anybody plans to, but if you wanna look into it, i believe they use haret exe which installs and boots android or even ubuntu. and no you won't be able to use the same kernal for the x1 on your x2. theres also an emulator that runs android ui i think its called androkkid which was a pretty cool project but probably not what your looking for anyways hope you find what you want eventually and good luck

Well, I love my prophet. I know that's it's comparatively open (we can install WM6!)
So, any chance anyone can get Android working on our phone? (It'll be awesome if it's working before G1 comes out!)
http://www.webmonkey.com/blog/Google_Delivers_Android_Mobile_OS_to_Developers
Well the linux operating system works on it so am guessing that maybe andriod can support it some how any sites that's working on it?
I am no linux expert but it seems that could possibly run on most HTC devices with some kernal patching??
I think the new OS looks better than Windows Mobile and is certainly better than touchflo 3d.
I am calling on the information of all the cooks, developers and hackers on this forum to answer this, do you think it would be possible to create a ROM that boots out HTC devices into this new Android OS and therefor rid us of microsofts limited WM6/6.1 OS ??
I am all for trying if you are!
Me too. I had expected to see more questions about android. I'm setting up a linux box to see what we can do with the source! Hope to see some progress here!
I think you should follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396782&page=124
The people out there are working on a working Android on the Kaiser. When finished, the Android system can easily ported to some other HTC devices (I think).
I think that Google Android is working better than Windows Mobile with TouchFlo (2d & 3d), so I hope that they finish the job soon
It might be a stupid thread and stupid question and I believe the ANSWER of it might be …… it will never happen.
BUT
Is it possible? Can it be?
I am not a good fan of Android as I had a lot of problem with Nexus one,
I have been using windows mobile since ages, my first was the IPAQ, Imate PDA2K, HTC cruse, Diamond, HD (BlackStone) and Nexus one < --- just to test Android
I might be wrong judging the Android but here are my notes:
- No X button to close the applications so they just keep running in the background
- No file browser
- It was hard to make it run the WMV and still not good
- I understand in the WM 6.5 no Transcriber and block recognizer, but I think it can be managed
- No today desktop to be customized as I like to see my task and calendar
- Office is not there the way you want
And many manay other issues
Well sorry for the (too much writing) but maybe I could get some help here or people might enlighten me
THX
Honestly I have no idea how to install Wm on that phone...and I would never want to if I were yu...but ur issues don't seem to lye with android...yu just need to do some market browsing because there is a program called advanced task killer that kills apps in the background..it also has a nifty little home widget...yu can also download astro file explorer to search files on ur phone...just like in wm ...there are apps and Widgets for all the issues yu stated...the best advice I can give tho is that if yu want a wm phone...then buy one...hold out for the hd7 and see if someone might trade yu for ur desire HD...hope I've helped..
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Thanks for the answer and as I said I already knew it will not be possible, HD with WM7 is close to android, no today screen and it is almost Iphone, I might sound old fashion but I believe it is hard to change things you got used to
I am a Linux user too (Ubuntu Lucid) is what I am using, I believe I will give Desire HD a try and see, maybe I might be able to find a way to install WM on it maybe I give Android a better look and see what it has.

1. No, there is no "X" button, but Android's memory management is clever enough that you don't need one.
2. There are plenty of file browsers available on the Marketplace
3. I assume you mean .wmv videos? Not sure on this one.
4. Not sure about this
5. You can get all manner of widgets for Android that show calendars and you can get task managers etc.
6. No, office isn't perfect, but it's getting better.
If all of this is really a concern for you - why not just get an HD2? It's the same screen size and most of the same features (give or take megapixels, DLNA and a couple of bits and pieces here and there). At least then you can run WM6.5 as default and toy with the Android port which is developing really well in the meantime.
Don't want you to hate me guys BUT i did use the HD2, and here are my notes:
-Battery runs out fast
-don't like the new start menu
-no pen comes with it (i understand that all new HTC don't) i am OK with it, BUT it is not smooth the way you want in HD2.
well i am sorry to cause you headache guys i am really lost here and i do like HTC phones it is just cannot find the one that do serves me as my HD (blackstone) do
The only thing i would spare the HD (BlackStone) is its slowness.
I might consider desire HD and give it a try.
Here is what I am talking about

@jmohik : So you wanna step back in time to WM6.1 ... if you dont like HD2 now... all the new phones (anytime soon now) are start gonna ship with WM7 .... as per your feedback and requirements, I believe you will ditch WM smartphones altogether
Btw...dont know what more do you want from a HD2 which is able to run a WM6.1, WM6.5, WM6.5.5, All Android Builds, and soon WM7 !
As far as battery, I get 1.5 days out of it .... dont expect more from such beasts...if you do, switch to Nokia
as i said ... i don't want you to hate me guys, and i said it is not easy to change things you got used to ....
well .... i will get the desire HD and i guess i will start on using it.
and BTW i also have a NOKIA E75
Thats the spirit !
It'd be far more interesting to know whether its possible to hack a WM7 rom onto the phone, seeing as the hardware looks identical to the HD7 that HTC are releasing.
Don't get me wrong, I'm Android all the way but theres no harm in experimenting!
I think you just need to spend 2-4 weeks with an Android phone running HTC Sense. I used to use a WM6.1 device, then WM6.5 and then moved to the HTC Hero which was on Android 1.5, and now 2.1. Since the first day I got the Hero, I have not looked back at WM. There really is no question about it.
I understand it all comes down to personal preference, but a Linux user like yourself should find Android easier to work with than those who don't use Linux.
As one of the other guys mentioned above, there are plenty of apps on the market you can get for free which do pretty much everything you say you want. The reason HTC don't provide a stylus these days is the screens are now capacitive not resistive, and better suited to fingers and thumbs. You can still get a stylus, but it would cost more.
P.S. I don't really have much love for the stock Android experience, as on the Nexus One... HTC Sense over the top of it is just amazing... in my opinion, but like I said, everyone has their own personal preference..!
i had an HD2 running wm6.53 and Android from the SD card. Dual booting serves no purpose BUT ITS GREAT!!!
I will get this device when its out as my HD2 died. I would love to be able to dual boot to WM7 just to give it a go.

Surely your HD2 is still within its 12 month warranty! I've had mine since it came out, that isn't even a year yet!
No one will put the time and effort in to port WP7 to an Android device, it just won't really be feasible given the amount of people who will actually want it.
Also, I can imagine it being a lot harder to go, given that WP7 is closed source, and Android is open source.
Hey guys ,
i was thinking that it is mainly becuse of apps and games that people want android on htc hd2 since the other things can be done by themes etc,
so instead of making android for htc hd2 to flash from sd card why not try to make an emulator for htc hd2 which can run apk files or something like that since htc hd2 in wm6.5 also has enormous capacity
and i think with people in Xda doing so would be possible easily
first off in my opinion i dont use android because of apps and ggames, i use it for the user friendliness plus its far batter to use then winmo. Second we dont actually flash android on HD2 we are sorta "Emulating" already over windows

actually,no not really. Haret kicks the windows kernel out of ram and boots into android. there is almost no part of windows left running at all. It's basically like dual boot except that it switches from windows>android while windows is running.
i get what your saying and i think its a good idea
if any of you have used linux on the PC there is a program called WINE(http://www.winehq.org/) that runs windows apps within the linux os i gess you want something like this
if there was something like that i know i would use it

guys, do you even understand how winmo programs even work? -_-
Hey Splder ,
yes thats exactly what i am saying since there are already emulators for gba,gbc files(Gameboy) and even Psx(.iso) in hd2 so why not for .APK thats possible and i am working on it and i managed to install a basic apk but there were some errors
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but is it possible to run WM on an Android tablet?
At the moment I have an HTC HD2 running WM and use a load of Apps that would great on a bigger screen, EBook reader etc the problem is they are WM only.
I know nothing about Android beyond that I can get a cheap one on eBay that would do all I want if I could get WM 5+ on it.
Is this possible?
Many thanks
I'm not sure about the whole running on a tablet thing (though it's a nice idea), but one thing I have learnt, is that a lot of WM software don't do any checks on display size. My phone is WQVGA (240x400), and very few things actually use the screen correctly (mainly graphical ones such as emulators and games. ScummVM works nicely though)
my "answer" is just: WTF??? WM on a tablet....instead of android...?
and my advice is to try android a bit and you will find it very intuitive and handy and you will never wish to go back to WM
TBH I have not had the chance to play around with Android so that is good advice.
The problem is that some of the apps I need are WM only and do not look like will get an Android or WM7 update.

apps like?
there is pretty much a replacement for every app
i only didn't find replacement for SMath studio...which is a very powerful math application
since you have HD2 go to hd2 android section and try out SD card roms (not NAND roms since you will have to delete WM) and play a bit with the android SD rom and see if it suits you
EDIT: here you go, you can find and learn everything over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735
ok, i have the same question.
is there anyone out there who could give an answer?
i am a big fan of WM (have a htc touch pro) and not a big fan of my mid-tablet with android 2.1
the point ist - until android is ready to connect to ad-hoc wlan it is just *****.
so i would love to change the OS from Android to WM...
Doubt will ever be possible.
His bit a windows powered tablet.
