Pretty much as per the title really. I for one am not that impressed by WM7 and frankly any updated without sense would be a step backward. Who cares really that the hd2 is based on wm6.5? Sense is by far the best UI on the smartphone market and the fact its wm6.5 under is irrelevant.
The phone did have some problems when it was launched, and im sure HTC regret the SMS issue, but its fixed now and by hotfixes not the damned WM issue of ROM flashes.
ANy move towards hotfixing the core issues is a move in the right direction, whilst senior members here are happy to flash, with the phone being more of a hobby the rest of us want fixes to the core setup and HTC have delivered time and again.
IMHO i think some people here should get over the issue of WM7 which is still months off and un-proven and enjoy owning the best smart phone on the market and look around for applications to enhance your experience.
Hm, I think Sense on Android is much better than on WM. I also don't think Sense on WM is better than the WP7S UI.
All the moaning and WP7S discussion is quite annoying, though.
annoying indeed. It's about time the mods start locking or at least move WM7 threads to either generals board or at least Windows Mobile Development and Hacking board.
Yeah, i kind of prefer what 6.5 gives me. However, seeing as Microsoft is struggling to keep people developing for it (skype, flash 10.1) i'd like to know my phone doesn't become as useful as a doorstop.
From what I've seen of windowsm 7, it looks crap.
I cant be arsed with all that pissing about.
The whole UI looks half baked, I hope they sort it, but I doubt they will.
Im acctualy amazed people want that crap on their phones lol
Xbox live hook up... Really? Because last time I looked, I have a social life (hence the need for a phone). I honestly couldn't care less if a friend from live updated their avatar (which I think was a bad move for MS too.).
Its pathetic.
RANT OVER.
Yeah 6.5 is annoying at times, its far from perfect. But atleast it spices up our lives
After a long time living with the Iphone, I acctualy hate the iphone UI now. Its almost child like.
and after all, we got the HTC HD2 because its the best smart phone out. Not because we want WM7
Valid points all round. Heres hoping the mods do boot the pointless chats about wm7 (and then this) off somewhere else. You have wm6.5 on the leo, deal with it. Now lets take this platform forward.
agreed. this is way too much "will i get winmo7" spam. do a search people!
no kidding. It'll be almost the end of the year until it comes out. It's a long time in terms of hardware.
Once people get it and if it's buggy they'll soon complain that they're forced to do beta testing for them.
I'm not sure what you're all complaining about. There's currently a single thread about WP7 in the first page of this forum and the only other one I've seen recently is a thread that dates back to the original tweet from HTC Russia. It's not as if these threads are taking over or anything.

With all the features missing from Eclair and all the features added by sense I can see why this is taking so long. They had to intergrte many features of 1.6 into 2.1 for us and lay a new version of Sense over it. This seems like a very special build of 2.1. I don't even know if I would officially call it true 2.1 because many of the features are missing/changed from vanilla 2.1 on the N1. This is a hybrid of 1.6, maybe 2.0.1, and 2.1. They(HTC) really did go out of their way to provide us with this build of mish-mash. I am in no way complaining Just wanted to get some feed back as to what others are thinking that have used other releases of Android. I do enjoy what is out now and hope that with the official release canidate some things are improved. I am excited to be working on getting some things together that we are missing from "2.1" that we all want (voice-to-text, live wallpapers, 3D gallery, etc.). Although it does suck that it took HTC soooo long to get this ready and hit the 2.0/2.1 speed bump that was a huge culprit I am glad they took the time. So to that we salute you Mr. takingwaytolongtoreleaseanupdatebutfinallycameoutwithareallystripeddownversionjusttomakeushappycompany!
Well, I've not used other Android versions, but I concur completely that this couldn't have been a simple project for HTC. In fact, that's exactly what I've been saying to all the whiners over on the Verizon Android forum. So I've been on Verizon and HTC's side all this time, but man...could they drag this out any longer????????? Now, you guys had to go and give me a taste for blood by hooking us up with 2.1. Now ya done it!
But you know, I've been in the customer service industry for a really long time (shop foreman at a new car dealership), and I understand very well that some things take longer than you thought they would. But it's amazing how much you can pacify a customer just by making them at least feel like they're "in the loop". Verizon however has stood mum all this time, letting everybody's frustration come to a boil. Throw us a bone for cryin' out loud!
I'm not sure I agree with you though about them skimping out on this build version. Asking the poor little Eris to work like a Nexus 1 with it's relatively adolesent processor and half the internal memory might be setting your expectations a little high. But that's just my opinion, and it's worth exactly what you paid for it.

I thought by now we will have something good and yet there isnt a single case that i like, a back cover, or a holster.....
and the development forum is filled with bunch of lag fixes and roms (2 roms) that are not even as good and stable as stock.
no word on froyo yet, media hub is crap, etc...
With worldwide release i really thought this will be moving with speeds of Nexus.....I guess i was wrong. Its just horrible that they decided to release 5 different variations of Galaxy S. Different bodies, and even different hardware, and therefore different firmware as well

It will come. There is a major learning curve since this is much coherent than the htc built phones. As for accessories yeah.. But it's only been 2 months, be patent..
i too thought that dev would have jumped all over galaxy S phones right away. i know there is a learning curve from htc phones, but i though they would be all over these as they all have the same basic hardware.
I do appreciate the dev who are here and helping and working
i wish for more accessories too
Honestly, this is the first android phone I've owned, I am quite impressed with the activity by the devs. There seems to be a lot of effort into designing tweaks that will lead to some quality changes to our Vibrants after the bugs are worked out.

i would, but unfortunately i am not a developer. and by adding and removing apps from stock rom back and forth is not really development. i do appreciate the lag fix, its working great so far.
Op please sell your phone, buy an HTC, and have a coke and a smile... quit complaining about one of the best phones in the WORLD market... if still unhappy there is always iPhone.... bye bye...
And I wish moderators here would trash these stupid waaaah waaaah threads.... your complaint is useless unless you are willing to develop, hack, beta test, or otherwise move development along... and to the point of lag fixing and deleting bloatware, YOUR WELCOME FOR THE FREE DEVELOPMENT YOU UNGRATEFUL COMPLAINER!!!
If you really think that all the devs are doing is adding and removing apps then maybe you should just wait for an ota update.

if these points you listed are so important to you, why did you buy the phone before these things came along?
If and when I am looking at buying something new I do research before purchasing a product so I know what to expect. It sounds like you assumed these things would be ready day 2 after launch and now that they are not you panties are in a twist.
If this is really the case go look in the mirror and there you will have the person to blame for your aggravation .
I like the phone. and i do think it the best phone on the market (at least for me). But I would probably get Droid X if it wasnt so big.
After some mods to phone, i am very happy with it (except for back cover and 2.1, well and the fact that compass just doesnt work at all), gps works, launcher pro plus is a killer, lag fix works, battery indicator fixed, and obviously removed all crapware, oh and tasker app makes word of difference too.
Still New
Am I one of the few that think 2 months is still early in the development game?
The Nexus One is sold as a developers phone, so it should and is supported as one.
I think the developers have lives and a real job. Making this a fun hobby for most of them. So just relax, be patient and before you know it you will have every tweaked/hacked/themed ROM available for your flashing pleasure.

Are actually retarded, so you must make the same stupid point over and over?
We buy stuff when we need it -- like when the old phone breaks, or a plan needs to be renewed.... Most people research a bit, then weigh the pros and cons and take the plunge.
After some use, everyone finds things they like or dislike about their purchase.
But really, why shouldn't we expect to be able to buy by now the dock that Samsung was showing off in their ads way before the phone was available?
Just cleaned this thread and removed some unacceptable comments which absolutely break XDA Rule 2 and usually lead to the suspension of user accounts.

Actually, demanding that a product for which you've paid $500 works and it's upgradeable for a reasonable time as long as the hardware supports it (just like a computer), is not *****ing.
When you buy a new car and the radio doesn't work, you don't expect the dealer to tell you to either wait indefinitely, or fix it yourself. Same with this phone.

Difference the phone works as is, everything works fine on it. You just want it to work "better".
Well I want my myTouch to be better. Yea, they should trade me out to a myTouch Slide! I spent 250!!! dollars on it.
I don't remember the last time I bought a computer and then when the next version of an OS came out I got it for free. Either shut up, or learn to develop on your own.
These days, I'm seeing lots of supposed teams tossing zillions of ROMs that are no real improvement. I think I have tried 1 out 2 and I stopped the flashing game after I realized they are almost the same dog with a different collar.
Am I the only one? Is our Vibrant a stalled device in terms of REAL development? Come on, boys, less theming and more real improving!!
You're kidding, right?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I'm not kidding. Can you name a ROM that is not CM7 that is making real improvements like proper GPS with sensors and no path-sliding in Gingerbread, improved battery, no problems entering deep sleep and being fast?
Any ROM GB ROM that doesn't not suck, lasting less than 15 hours with moderate use?
You wanna go beg samsung to release source? Wait. Dont. By the way you type, you seem like a genius that can build us a source!
JMN... everyone jumped ship and started working on Gingerbread... without anything specific for our phone. I guess you could say we are stalled in that regard. Nobody wants 2.2.... and the 2.3.+ roms are missing a lot of the key things needed for what you seek. It is what it is.
Go pester T-Mobile and Samsung, not XDA/community/developers.
I do.
If it were as easy as you make it seem, I am sure our Vibrant would have a 100% working CM7 right now. Problem is, it isn't. We don't have any source code for Gingerbread, our GPS is from a half-baked file for the Galaxy S 4G, and Samsung decided to use several proprietary loops inside their source code that make the code counter-intuitive. As a result, our developers basically have to reverse engineer a good portion of the code itself.
Or you are more than welcome to start working on it yourself. Seems as up until JVQ dropped on I9000 I was the only one actually doing anything (with of course a couple other good people dropping in from time to time). From April until now we went from a build that was barely usable for more than a couple hours to builds that are definite daily drivers. Granted there are still some flaws but with less than a handful of people do any real developing on what free time we do have and for no incentive other than the thank you button and occasional donation I'd say we're doing pretty damn good.
In the words of someone famous you're either part of the solution or you're part of the problem. Which are you going be?
EDIT: My statement above is putting CM7/MIUI aside, different animal/problems/features/pluses/minuses.

its not that easy to build a rom thats so great people build on xda some can be slightly better than others but hey thats why u get updates, if ur looking for good battery life on gb use an i9000 port like simplyhoney and u wont be mad about the battery life on the other hand i use cm7 and have been on it ever since nightlies started being released i will tell u it came a long way from no gps and battery drain to a half working gps which is still functional to decent battery life and i am grateful for all the hard work but into it
Funny seems like JMN went silent!

Biting the hands that feed... smh
OK, OK.
Please, forgive me for my anger being unleashed. Maybe it was that I see newer devices having a plethora of updates and improvements, or maybe because with my previous device (HTC Polaris running Windows Mobile 6) there was a man (XDA member know as DZO) that reverse engineered it, driver by driver to make a fully fledged Android device.
I ask you for your understanding, and hope you pardon me. You're right: the real problem here is that T-Mobile and Samsung abandoned the Vibrant to its own luck.
Lots of devs jumped ships because of that. I don't make them guilty about this situation, although I did in my first post. Sorry about that.
I'm a dev myself, but not so low level. I cannot compile drivers or reverse engineer. Otherwise, I would really like to collaborate with Atinm and the others.
Please, don't abandon or blame the Vibrant and other Galaxy S devices and try to squeeze all the juice out of it. If we all switch to the latest device, manufacturers will always laugh at us selling slightly different hardware, not upgrades for our totally capable devices.
Nothing more to add. Sorry for my rough and disrespectful words I wrote before. Long live XDA-Devs.
My fellows, I went to the T-Mobile USA facebook site (http://www.facebook.com/TMobile) and published this on their wall:
"SHAME ON YOU, T-MOBILE! Where is Gingerbread for the T-Mobile VIBRANT???? Do you ever care about your users? Do you think we will eat every phone you release with no questions and wishing NO SUPPORT? We do buy devices with future in mind. A ONE-year-device has been ditched away because you are too busy selling the so called 4G version. Too obvious you're playing with us, playing the "buy me and forget me" game. Sorry, but never again to you, T-Mobile, or whatever you will be called after the merger."
I hope you could support me or write comments criticizing the way T-Mobile is acting upon us.
Thanks.
I just re-posted your message on T-Mobiles Facebook site. Not too sure where yours went. Maybe they deleted it.
Thanks a lot, dude. They have the site configured so you cannot see the posts that users write on the wall until you explicitly reveal them using the "Most recent" option (link http://www.facebook.com/TMobile?sk=wall&filter=1). It's there, I think. We need to cry out loud.
I absolutely approve of telling T-Mobile we are tired of waiting.....
Gingerbread = Security.
I posted this on their facebook, all we can do is hope one day they get the point.
"T-mobile, you have a very loyal customer base that bought one of 2010's best smartphones, the Samsung Vibrant. However, with the release of the Samsung Vibrant 4g, we have been left in the dark and seemingly ignored regarding security updates and notifications, specifically the gingerbread 2.3 update. We buy devices with the future in mind, and expect to have full support for the devices we spend our hard earned money on. We know that Samsung awaits your instruction to push the updates, and we respectfully request you do so immediately, in order to be up to date on stability, security, and support. This situation has bothered and frustrated many in the Vibrant community, we only ask that you extinguish that fire by providing us the update we deserve and earned, by being your customers."
people will never learn...
they cannot support devices forever. it seems like every single person thinks that once they buy a smartphone, they are guaranteed lifetime support. the cell phone industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. i would much rather them cut off my support and have a beast upgrade waiting for me, rather than them focus on constantly rolling out updates for every single device theyve ever created just to shut up *****y consumers. think about it, getting stuck with an outdated device makes it all that much better once you get your upgrade! its amazing im saying this, as i despise corporate america.
i realize the vibrant is just over a year removed, BUT THIS HAPPENS WITH EVERY SINGLE DEVICE. i guarantee if you go to ANY other forum for a device that is 1+ years old, 95% of them will be filled with threads like this. update this, update that, fix this, release this blahblahiwantmybottleblahblah. its not JUST tmobile. its not JUST samsung. these accusations are so narrow-minded. what would happen if they released gingerbread??? two months later, the cry babies would be right back in full swing, "wheres honeycomb?? release honeycomb source!!" it has to end somewhere, you can never satisfy everybody, let alone ANYBODY in the vibrant forum.
its the industry. its the way it works, so stop acting like we are the only ones who are "suffering". its such an ignorant, narcissistic way of looking at it. enjoy what you got, nothings ever built to last. youre "stuck" with a damn good device, it is what you make it. weekly threads begging for gingerbread, or ****ting on tmobile/samsung is clearly not getting it done. so maybe people should be spending their time differently instead of constantly *****ing: get familiar with linux, learn to compile/decompile, learn to theme...its amazing how much fun (yes, without source!) youll be able to have once you learn some stuff. keep yourself busy creating new things, youll take more pride in your device knowing its something that YOU created, as opposed to trolling around and downloading anything you can get your sticky fingers on.

To be honest, support for the Vibrant has been pretty much nonexistent from T-Mobile, I don't think it's too much to ask for a GB ROM from them and Samsung, had T-Mobile been into providing us service instead of trying to sell out we could have had a beter chance at some real support.
I'm just sayin..... I'm not trying to start anything its just that every time I come on to XDA theres never really a new topic for the Acer A50-
I have an EVO 4g and theres always new topics and development and I have had other HTC phones and been here for a frew years now

I also own an A500 and a HTC EVO 4G. Although I do understand a bit where you're coming from, I think it's mostly a difference between a phone and a tablet forum.
I also think it's a difference in quantity versus quality. We have some very nice, stable ROMs for the A500 where everything works. For most EVO ROM announcement threads, I just disregard them after reading the OP and seeing that 4G doesn't work, GPS has problems, MMS has problems, landscape Rosie doesn't work, etc. Plus quite a few of those EVO "ROMs" are just tweaked versions of earlier released ROMs that are heavily themed.
Also, I think the A500 community here on XDA is a little guilty of running off quite a few of our devs by being ungrateful, overly demanding, etc. Compound that with some devs having a little bit of an attitude, and I think we're lucky to have the devs that we still do.
Although I almost immediately wanted to root/ROM my EVO 4G, I was perfectly happy with stock root on my A500, and that's basically what I'm running now. I flashed ezterry's 3.2.1 ROM, tweaked it a little myself, threw ADW Launcher EX at it with a nice theme, and I'm a happy camper patiently waiting for Acer to release ICS.
There is a big difference between phone ownership and tablet ownership. I would have to guess its something like 10,000 android phone owners to every 1 android tablet owner. And the Evo 4g was the flagship of Android phone for a long time. I too owned the Evo 4g and my wife still has one. I moved on to the Evo 3d and love it. I agree, it would be nice to see some excitement in these forums but when I use my tablet I want it to work and work right. I switched back to a rooted stock rom because almost all of the roms I found were really just themes and had removed apps that I like. The roms that are highly customized like thors or flexstriker always have glitches or changed to much. I'll run stock until ICS drops and then I hope some more exciting developing will be going on. My work just purchased me an Ipad 2 and I have played with it for a few days now. I'll have to say, the Ipad will be used for work, but when I want to play I'll be reaching for my A500.
You know what I hated about all the roms for the evo, it was all the badly themed roms with the same tweaks.

Exactly. Lately, we've had a new kernel released, along with a new recovery by Dres. And a couple of the newer released roms (3.2.1) @Civato and myself and a couple of others. So I wouldn't say that development has ceased. I would say, that Dev's and Modders have pushed HC about as far as it can go.
And yes, some people like to use the forum for their own battle ground. They know who they are. This isn't a backwoods chat room, but some people just like to start scandals.
But I am sure most people appreciate the work that is done. If you want to know how much work is put into things, get a stock rom, and try doing it.

It's easy to complain and say that there's nothing going on when you're not even giving any suggestions. I mean, more-or-less all the interesting things have already been tried and done, and the next thing to do would be to fundamentally alter how Honeycomb works. And that is simply a very big task to undertake.
Of course we could also go the same route as people like to go on other devices, ie. release a gazillion different ROMs where the only difference is in theming and color scheme. But that isn't development.
So go ahead and make some suggestions or wishes about what you'd want to see. Also keep in mind that HC is HC and many of us are satisfied with it as it is. Like e.g. I really have only one or two things to improve on that would even be possible with HC, everything else I want would require a whole new OS altogether. And as that ain't possible I really have no reason to develop for A500 at all, I simply don't view releasing yet another HC ROM that fixes the two minor nibbles I have with it as being worth my (or anyone else's) time.

It's easy to complain and say that there's nothing going on when you're not even giving any suggestions. I mean, more-or-less all the interesting things have already been tried and done, and the next thing to do would be to fundamentally alter how Honeycomb works. And that is simply a very big task to undertake.

Well, if you're referring to ICS then I have to say that even ICS doesn't address the fundamental issues I have with the whole Android platform. Of course it is a step up from HC, I'm not denying that, but even ICS is plenty rough around the corners and patched up with Mickey Mouse - plasters and chewing gum.

As much as I like Android, this is what you get when you get a search company writing an OS instead of a company that's been making OS's for 20+ years...
Bells and whistles are great, but not if your core functionality is farked.

On the whole, I don't think you have the right to complain. The devs are nice enough to share what they do. If you don't like it then make your own rom...
Waiting to see what you can come up with....

Oh, we should post a sign. "Don't feed the Trolls".
Noticed how the OP edited his post, to include the 501 after I posted a simple response.
Some people, just show absolutely no appreciation to the hard work people do. We do it, so others can enjoy it.
Is it a sense of accomplishment, yeah, it is. Especially when it works for 95% of the users.
I'm no Dev. I'm a "fry cook". But I understand what Devs go through. Been there, did that.
Some people, will never be satisfied, no matter what you do. It's a pity.
Ought to kill this thread, as really, as the OP showed, it's an insult to all dev's and Modders.
And people wonder why the devs and modders leave xda. Just look at the title that was posted.
The best thing, is to ignore such posts, from such people, as they are just designed to get people into a pissing war, while they sit back and get amusement.
No way!
Without the efforts of many developers we wouldn't have the following:
USB 3G support for the A500
Eye candy boot animations and themes
Lean operating environment by removing uneccesary startup software
Improved GPS response
Improved kernels for stable overclocking
As far as I'm concerned, the Dev contributers are doing a splendid job.
HTC Desire
ROM: MIUI-XJ v2.2.10 (D2EXT X-PART)
Recovery: 4EXT Classic
Acer Iconia A500
ROM: civato-FLEXSTRIKER-R9.5

No disrespect but your the only one I really see running around here *****ing and complaining. Seriously tge thread is going in the direction it was meant. Im not hassling devs thier talents are amazing in this place. Ive been here for years. Um just not real happy with my product even in the capable hands here. Thats all.
P.S. I did want to come back and update this post for you. Like Ibsaid I have been here for years. I remeber when xda was a lot different when people just ignored stupid comments and there wasnt all this he said she said tolling fad crap adults were adults and children were children. But oh how the waters have muddied even for a few who cook and code. Not all but as the new popular xda saying goes: "you know who you are" ;-)

1. The tools aren't all open. They simply aren't. Remember the thor fiasco?
2. No one cares if you're a blonde from Kentucky. Posting about waiting & hoping will do nothing for anyone.

If you're going to complain about stuff not being done, learn to program, and do it yourself.

Drop the elitist attitude.
Not everyone has the qualities needed to make a programmer, just as not everyone has the qualities to become a successful artist; some people simply are better wired for it than others. Not to mention actual real-life issues.

True, but if you are going to make a thread titled "development for my tablet sucks", you should be ready to ****ing drop some command line ninja skills.
It seems like the op was meaning to say "development seems to have stalled", but inflammatory language is inflammatory...
(ps, I am all sorts of drunk (woot woot switfkey autocorrection) and the useless bickering of the A500 forums makes me an angry drunk)

Heh. Mind if I join you? Got a bottle of vodka and I'm bored out of my skull, getting drunk sounds like a rather good idea!
