Can we use tzones web2go $10 data plan with Slide? - myTouch 3G Slide General

Hi, I'm just wondering if the $10 web2go data will work with the mytouch 3g slide?
It currently works on my HTC Touch Pro 2 (tmobile branded).
Or is Tmobile treating this like an Iphone and using IMEI blacklist to only use the android data plan that is $30.
If so will rooting allow it? I have read the Nexus One allows the use of the $10 data.

I believe tmobile knows this is a mytouch slide by the imei of the phone so you'll be stuck having to add on the android dataplan.

If anyone has successfully used the $10 web 2 go plan on this phone please post!I am currently using this plan on my HD2 and don't want to switch phones unless i know for sure if this works. Thanks

I can tell you that any of the android phones will need the android web. If you just switch the sim card the data willb work for a little but then you will get a subscription is required for this feature. I was on a hd2 with its actual data plan and when I switched it worked for three days then I had to call in and they switched it.

well since the first time i made this post, i researched, and it seems like the ONLY OFFICIAL TMOBILE BRANDED ANDROID PHONE THAT WILL WORK with $10 web2go or cheaper plan is the Samsung Behold 2.
I thus since sold my slide and got the behold 2. The behold 2 is an inferior phone in everyway, and not having a physical keyboard sucks. The slide was everything I wanted, but i also NEEDED data plan, but was not going to pay $30 for it. I did NOT NEED however, a physical keyboard, so I guess I could live with it even though it was my preference.
But paying $10 for unlimited 3g on an android phone on tmo is nice.

The store reps will work with you a bit. The website wanted me to change to an even more or even more plus plan, so I asked to add data and keep my existing 300 text messages plus customer loyalty unlimited minutes plan. They removed my messaging plan and added an "unlimited data + 400 text" item on my bill for $25. So essentially I added a $20 data service and gained an extra 100 text messages. $5 isn't a lot, but it's $120 over the life of the contract, which makes me a happier customer.
If I go to the website to make changes it complains that I don't have the right services for my phone though.

t-mobile forced data plan?

okay so I have had my used mytouch 3g ever since february of 2009. It was rooted so I always turned off data and used only wifi. my tmobile family plan contains 750 minutes + unlimited texts (we text a lot but talk less).
By contract expired last month I believe.. so we are not in contract with tmobile but on month to month basis. so tonight I receive a text message from 456 stating that I have added data plan on my mytouch line. I go online and log in and I am unable to take it off, also it states "extra services"- tmobile 4g plan... I don't even OWN a hspa device. so I was wondering if you guys with no data are getting data forced upon you on your device. g1, mytouch etc... oh btw I tested the data by going to facebook while turning off wifi, it worked and said (on the my account page) I used 0.61kb/ unlimited.... wtf

Stupid question but did you buy the phone from tmobile at a discount price? If so you are required to have the data service with a smartphone device maybe they never put it on your account before and just now noticed this trust me that kinda crap happens unfortunately the only thing I could say is to call them and have it removed because the unlimited is like $30 a month now they cannot force you to keep since your outside the contract
Sent by Pigeon Carrier.
And unfortunately they can charge you for the 4g plan even if you don't have a device that supports it. Its because the service is available to you sprint does the same thing if im not mistaken.

nope, bought it off some guy from craigslist. like I said I have been using the device for 11 months with no data, but I am hearing that they took off the "sidekick" plan which is the web 2 go, that might be the issue. although I never had web2go, I changed my apn anyway to point to wap.voicestream.net instead of epc.xxxx (default). that way I won't be charged for unwanted data. Now I checked my apn. HSPA and 3g keeps overriding it even if I put a null or a wildcard apn on the settings...I am thinking these guys use the imie number to figure out your device and impose automatic data plan on you (like at&t)
looks like I will have to call tmo and threaten to leave if they don't take my plan off...
also there has been an unnneccassry download charged on my dads account 9.99$ which he says he didn't download... wtf tmobile is soliciting!
oh offtopic but I am also in the verge of picking up a nexus S, I was thinking about getting the 800 mb data (for activation purposes) and canceling it within a month. looks like that won't be happening since tmobile might have changed their policy.

First off, your HTC MAGIC is most definitely an HSPA device, 7.2 Mb/s max. What you don't have, is HSPA+.
Second... sorry, but tmobile are being real douchebags with this one. On one hand, they do have one reason for doing this besides ripping you off... and that is to prevent all the $572891.55 data usage bills from people who "don't use data". Force everyone into an unlimited data plan, and you don't need to deal with this support crap.
HOWEVER, it is still a ripoff. They *should* offer you a choice between all or none, which would also guarantee that you don't get an insane bill. Unfortunately though, that would mean that they get no data revenue from you.
You should probably call and complain about it. Tell them that you want data cut off ENTIRELY. Worst they'll do is say no. If they do that, tell them you're switching to ATT, who will give you a voice-only plan no questions asked. If they say something stupid like "att 3g isn't compatible", your response is "who cares? I'm not using data, so 2g is just as good."
Try it. Threats to leave can be good arguments.

[Q] Switching from Sprint to AT&T Tab...

Ok so I've had the Sprint Tab for about a month now (tested it out on the 30 day trial run) and just called Sprint up yesterday to return it. I originally purchased the Tab to replace my Evo meaning I wanted to use the device as my primary mobile device. I did the VOIP tweak and was running it fine, only problem was the poor quality of the calls and not being able to successfully use a bluetooth headset.
In the end, I determined that the Sprint Tab wasn't for me so I recently just purchased the AT&T tab so I could use true voice capabilities instead of VOIP and be able to use a bluetooth headset. Only problem is I'm not fan of AT&T plans- they seem so $$$. I'm still on contract with Sprint but plan to downgrade to their most basic $29.99 plan. With that in mind, if I'm going to get an AT&T voice/data sim, I need it to be not so expensive. Unfortunately, it looks like I would have to pay $39 for voice, $25 for data and $10 for texts so altogether, roughly $75 am I correct? (not to mention the activation fee).
Is there a least expensive option? Would I be able to use a T-mobile sim (their plans seem cheaper) in the AT&T tab and not run into the modem switcher issue or any other problem when flashing the Euro firmware?
There should be a minium data plan for $14.99. I got one for my niece using iPhone. Everything else sounds correct.
If you're happy with Sprint, don't switch. AT&T could have its own issue as well (where I'm at I have to use microcell but if I drive across the street, I'm screwed). Pretty pathetic but I have the old AT&T plan with unlimited data plan so I'm trying to hold on to it. I could change my mind some day I guess.
Well I'm not completely leaving Sprint as I'm still on contract- just downgrading. The Sprint tab was great but I really wanted an all-in-one device and the fact that every person I called complained about the poor call quality using VOIP is a deal breaker so using the AT&T tab is something I'm going to have to do.
I just want to be able to have a cheaper month-to-month option since I still have to pay for a Sprint voice plan I won't be using....
The only way to lower the cost is an addition to a family plan. The go phone data is too expensive.
Why att? Do you have att? Does att let you use voice calling and 3g? If so thats cool.
I got a tmobile tab and I use simple mobile (unlimited talk text and web) which uses t mobile towers. Most of the time in my area its connected with the H icon.
I dont know about att tablets but t mobile can only do 3g data only or 2g and calling. There is a script available that swaps modems for you though.

ATT Forcing HSPA+/4G Data ???

http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...ls.jsp?q_package=sku5100371&_requestid=618639
DataPro 2GB for HSPA+/4G Smartphone includes 2GB. Once 2GB is exceeded, an additional 1GB is automatically provided at a rate of $10 for each additional 1GB provided. Unused data usage does not carry over. For HSPA+/4G SmartPhones ONLY.
ATT is selling this type of data plan with the new ATRIX, what kind of impact could this have on us UNLIMITED 'Grandfathered' users that were thinking about buying the phone outright?
if i put my 3G card in, am i gonna get hosed? is ATT going to automatically try and switch my data plan to the 'required' plan for the 4G phone? even though i bought it outright? am i possibly going to have to fight to get the 'GFD' plan back after?
i know its all speculation at this point because the actual phone isnt out yet, but my gut tells me we might not like the answer...
I was wondering about the same thing, but I don't think we have to worry right now, I intend to get it then use it and in a month check, should they mess with me, I'll pull the information straight from their website with a datestamp that I printed stating that Grandfathered in gets to keep their plan. It really would be as simple as letting me keep it or I'll take my company off AT&T.

I was able to "upgrade" to the Atrix and i checked the option that said "I do not want to make changes to my data plan" since i am grandfathered in as truly "unlimited".
I dont expect to see any changes once i put my SIM card in. They relaxed their "grandfather" clause a little recently and im guessing what i experienced is exactly that. before they FORCED you to change your plan. Now you have an option.
For people with unlimited plans, you can still keep it, it becomes an option on the data plan picker that only someone with an unlimited plan can see. And yes it is 4g ready. And no it doesn't cost any more money.
/thread
It is not a problem at all.
All you have to do is swap the sim. cards and you are good to go. Your plan does not change at all and AT$T isn't going to penalize you.
They are losing 16% of their customers do to the iphone switch.
Yeah it won't be a problem switching from 3g to 4g unlimited ...I recently purchased the inspire all they did was change the code for the plan in the system for me,vi popped my sim card in and have hspa+ unlimited

I have a tangential question.
I know going over 2GB adds 1GB for $10 on Data Pro. But what if you exceed the 150mb on the Data lite? Does it auto bump you to 2GB and Data Pro for the month?
If you have the unlimited data theres a new HSPA+ version of the unlimited plan that your moved to
in regards to the $15 plan its actually 200mB, not 150, if you go over your charged another 15 for another 200, if you go over that your billed another 15 for 200 more and so forth
Lastly if your buying a device like the Atrix your a moron to think 200MB for an entire month is going to cut it, in my opinion that plan shouldnt even be offered
Hehe, so they charge you another $15 for 200MB but on the other plan its $10 for 1GB? Terrible.
I agree with you a 200MB plan likely wont get you anywhere unless you are covered by wi-fi everywhere you go and otherwise don't use data almost at all.
Also, how does tehthering work if you have a grandfathered unlimited plan? And could you not just root and use thethering without having the tetherming plan? Say if you were on the 2GB plan.
Ive never quite understood the covered everywhere by wifi don't have wifi driving or everywhere that you travel, unless you never leave the house
If you want tethering, officially through ATT you have to get the 45 dollar 4gb plan, and lose the unlimited
An app like PDAnet would be a solution for tethering to keep the unlim plan and you dont even need to be rooted to run it
I still have my unlimited data and my Inspire

lol you're absolutely insane if you believe that to be true. Every business analyst website worth its money on the internet is saying Verizon didn't make much of an impact with the release of the iPhone4. They sold a lot of iPhones...but an estimated 90% of them were to people that were already Verizon subscribers. The 1 million iPhones that they keep quoting was *ONLY* to pre-orders made by Verizon customers.
Also, it has absolutely nothing to do with this topic. AT&T already said before the phone was announced they would move grandfathered unlimited plans ahead with new contracts (same thing happened with their last launch).
I'm glad to hear that AT&T is allowing us to keep our grandfathered unlimited plans. I've been planning on moving up to Android with the Atrix but was dreading losing my unlimited data plan that I've got on my current iPhone 3G.
If everything works out like everyone here is saying then it looks like I'll get to have my cake and eat it too.
I plan on switching to this phone from my
Data Pro 2gb 3g - $25
And I am wondering if any fees will be applied if I swapped my sim into the Atrix.
Also I am switching my Captivate with someone that is upgrading and wonder if their 4g data be switched out with a 3g data plan because of the 3g Captivate

I asked ATT about a "4g plan", and to their knowledge it does not exist. There is a 25/month (or 15/mo if you are on the 200 mb) data plan. period. It doesnt matter if you are 3g or 4g or justin beiber 6g. Its all the same price and the same plan... for now.
Alright thanks lemme know any updates

FALSE. I got my wife the inspire 4g, and yes, the rep changed her from unlimited data(captivate) to unlimited 4G data(inspire, atrix etc.). So yes, you do have to make a switch to "4G." Try taking your sim card straight from your captivate, or any other 3g phone and put it in the atrix, you can make calls and text, but no data connection.

Did you get the Inspire 4G before AT&T relaxed their "Unlimited Grandfather in clause"? If o, that may have been your problem. Recently (2 months or so) they have said that if you have real unlimited plan and upgrade, you can keep your plan. You dont have to change. This is different to what they were saying when the iPHone 4 came out. Get iPhone 4 and you NEED to change your plan.
Also in regards to just putting in your SIM card into an Atrix, Do you have one? Did you try this? Or are you basing this on your Inspire experience?
No dice on keeping "unlimited" plan!
My current ATT Blackberry Data plan is "unlimited" and shows up like this on the Premiere site:
GPRS WAP/BBRY UNLTD DOM - BBUB
I called to confirm that I would be able to keep my n=unlimited plan and they told me that it would be changed to the 2gb-$25 4G plan immediately upon power up of the Atrix... AND that I could not go back to the unlimited plan even if I return the Atrix within 30 days!
Is the above one of the "grandfathered" plans? And if so, how is everyone else here managing to keep their plan?

Unlimited Data For Anyone! (AT&T) [IPHONE 2G REQUIRED]

Hey guys just upgraded to Atrix liking it so far! Never had unlimited data before but couldn't justify having it without unlimited data so been researching the current loophole and just wanted to share what I found out.
1) You must have an iPhone 2G, and a sim card that has never been registered to an iPhone 2G before
2) Hard reset the iphone, put in your simcard, and register the iPhone 2G in iTunes. You will be asked to confirm you agree to $20/month unlimited 2g data + 200 text messages.
3) Check online account to see if plan went through, or call 611 and confirm.
4) Find a CSR that will change your Iphone 2g plan to unlimited smartphone personal. I tried over the phone multiple times and they kept on saying they couldn't do it since the unlimited plan didn't exist before June 2010. I was about to give up but went to a retail location and the guy did it on his computer.
5) Enjoy your unlimited data!
NOTE: Whatever you do DO NOT let them change your data plan off the iPhone data plan. If you lose that plan you need a new simcard and to start over. I think I may have had more difficulties cause I am on a business account, but it still worked!
I am almost certain that you came in my store and I did this for you hahahah
I had someone come in my store this evening who did the samething...we werent in san diego but he lived there

Does it stay $20/month...?
what you are doing is making your phone an Iphone 2g.
making your phone an Iphone 2g gives you the unlimited 2g data (that comes with 200 texts as well) for $20.
Our in store systems allow us to go from unlimited 2g $20 to the unlimited 3g/4g data for $30 giving you unlimited data to your atrix/inspire/captivate if you didnt have it before.

I don't know about anywhere else around the country but AT&T is slowly migrating everybody off of the 2G / EDGE network. I don't know how much longer AT&T will allow you to activate 2G iPhones on the network.

Or you can "request" unlimited data with customer service on a new 2yr contract upgrade or new you have to do it through customer service and it might take a few calls Ive been able to add it without a problem on 4 lines last weekend. If you have 2g/3g data on the device you may experience service issues more awkward than normal by using this method in the OP I had a 3g unlimited on my main line and upgraded without change and pages barley loaded with full bars, this is not recommended to use the iphone data plan.
Will update with the feature code and name as soon as I can.
Would this work with an iPhone 3g? My friend has one lying around I could probably borrow to swing this. Also wondering about the ability to get unlimited texts.
edit: And I'll probably try the whole, calling customer service until I get what I want, plan soon.

No it won't work for a iPhone 3G. The reason this works for the original iPhone is that the only option for the phone is unlimited data. The 200 text messages has no affect on you if you have family messaging unlmited etc. Even if you have unlimited text you can always call back in to get it added back on.
So i tried to do the trick with an Iphone 2G, I checked online to verify and i think it went fine. Also online it gives me an option to change my Iphone Data plan to the Smartphone Bundles (1. SmartPhone Personal Unlimited Data with 1500 Message for $39.99 2.SmartPhone Personal Unlimited Data with 200 Messages for $35.00 3. Smartphone Personal Unlimited Data for $30)
Should i keep the Iphone Data plan or change it to the SmartPhone Personal plans?

Option 3 is a current unlimited smart phone data plan for the device, its thinking you had it and changed devices use this option so that way the data plan will work correctly for the device. You'll still have $30 unlimited data aswell.
If you are getting the option for smartphone personal unlimited that is the correct data plan for the atrix. iPhone plan doesn't support 4G as far as I know, if that ever happens.
This trick is more common for iPhone 4 users, where once they plug the sim back into the iPhone 4 the system automatically detects it is not a 2G device within a few hours and auto upgrades them to the $30/month iPhone data plan with a text messages alerting the customer. Chances are you will not be able to stay on the $20/month plan so I'd switch before AT&T realizes you are using a 2G iPhone data plan on an Atrix.
I should be good if i change it to the SmartPhone Personal Unlimited Data with 1500Message for $39.99 right?
Yes, It's still a smartphone unlimited data plan!
it's giving me this error when i try to process it.
What should i do now? call customer service?

You are never limited to 200 texts even on the original $20 iphone plan. You can still add a text plan on top of it. It just uses your 200 and then starts using whatever else you have on plan.
But when you move to the $30 plan you lose the texts anyway.

Unlimited Data @ ATT for only $15

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW4h1tOAsg4
Wasn't sure if this worked, and if you actually order the phone, wouldn't you have to pay for the plan?
I believe att can detect your phone and will automatically put you on a corresponding iPhone (bull****) plan, not 100% sure though, I do know that international phones can be used on the Medianet dumbphone data plan though.
This is very interesting and I am really thinking about trying it out. The only bummer is you ahve to by a phone just to get the sim card. If anyone tries this out let us know how it goes and if I try it out first I will let you know.
OK I Activate AT&T Phones Daily and of my best friends works at a AT&T Call Center, so here's some FAQ
Is it really unlimited data for $15?
Yes it is Unlimited Data for any Basic AT&T Phone, but if your trying to use it with a smart phone and use like 8GB of Data in a month they will be suspect
Will it work with a Smartphone?
Yes and no, If your using a AT&T Model Phone AT&T Will either block data or in most cases add the data package
If you have a T-Mobile Unlocked Phone or a Unlocked International GSM Phone it will not be in AT&T's System so you won't be flagged
Do you have to do anything to make it work?
Well Yes APN, you have to use the MediaNet APN, The normal 4G and LTE APNS will not work
Also to note Many New Go Phone Sim Cards are now Married to the phones IMEI they ship with and will not work in another phone unless you get a sim unlock code, I have verified this with the $19 Samsung Flip phone ZTE Z431, ZTEAvail, and the AT&T Fusion, I tried the sim card that came with the phones in my Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Samsung Vibrant and Samsung Propel
Thank you for your investigation, saved me the time I would've spent asking questions and searching for answers.
Well what I want to know is, if you buy one of those messaging phones for $0.01 on the 2 year contract like the video says, so that you get the sim, won't you have to pay for the 2 yr contract regardless? Or do they not charge you unless you activate it?

Yes you would, You would be required to commit to a 2 year contract and would have to at Minimum have the 450 Min for $39.99 and the $20 Unlimited Texting or $0.20 Per Text Message and the $15 Basic Phone Data Package so that video isn't really correct..
If you want "Unlimited Smartphone on AT&T then the Straight Talk Sim Cards are a much better way to go, For $45 a month you have Unlimited Talk, Text, Web, Data, I setup a Friend with a Galaxy S Captivate on it and he has the Full 3G Speeds and has had months he's hit 6GB and never had a Issue, The only thing you have to watch for is if you want to do the Wireless Hotspot, It is against the TOS to do Hotspot but you can Use Wifi Tether For Root Users and it will show as Mobile Web Usage so they won't bug you.
You can get the Straight Talk Sims in Both Full Size and Micro Sim Versions for Both AT&T and T-Mobile, and if you put the AT&T Sim in a AT&T Phone you don't even have to unlock it to work, I've setup Go Phones, iPhones, HTC Sensation 4G, HTC Mytouch 4G, Samsung Captivate, AT&T Avail http://straighttalksim.com/shop.php

So you have to pay $55 a month? That video is completely pointless...
