I thought this was amusing.. is someone from here rooting an reselling phones?
I don't know if I would trust that, not that I'm in the market, I was just looking.
ROOTED DI (EBAY)
I was thinking about selling mine too, not sure yet though.
While there may be demand for the units, I think the pricing is way too high.
Keep in mind that these ebay phones are contract free. So there is a $350 etf + the $199 purchase built into that cost. In addition the seller had to pay for at least a month of service for it. While the buy it now price may be somewhat high, over $500 isn't unreasonable considering the cost and the demand. Not to mention getting one of these things contract free means being able to use it on a verizon mvno for crazy cheap service.
Yeah I have been thinking about selling mine too.... I wonder if we will see a price change on ebay now that the AMOLED screens are being replaced by LCD or what...

It's rooted with CM 4.2.8
Includes an 8G microSDHC class-6 card
And recently switched to using RA-dream-v1.5.2 for recovery.
No case/holster.
Does have a screen protector.
It has the tiniest 1/8 inch long hairline scratch on the screen itself. It does not distort any viewing. Otherwise, has no other scratches on it.
What do you think I can sell it for?
I'm planning on getting the Nexus One when released.
My wife doesn't want my G1 - so I may sell it. Am just curious.
they usually go for between 100 and 220(max, usually 200) but i would check craigslist and ebay if i were you...
I was hoping for $100, as it's a year old.
Im glad to hear $200 is possible.
Thanks oshizzle!
160 is cheap for a decent one. If it had a cracked screen I could see 100 being a possibility, but 150 at least if that's the only scratch.
It's insane what the freaking G1 will sell for on ebay.
If you choose to sell it do yourself a favor first, get it unlocked.
Unlocked phones seem to add $75 to the going rate.
If its clean, rooted with a current mod, and unlocked....$140-$175
I fail to understand why a phone that, I can get for $129.99 with tmobile, will sell for $129 on ebay ... broken.
I watched an auction for one that had OBVIOUSLY been run over by a car.
The guy even said, all the plastic parts are cracked or broken. The screen is broken, it does not work, the thing is falling apart. It's junk!
The freaking thing sold for $92.
Personally I think the Chinese are buying them all up and refabing them into operational units or selling them for parts. I mean I can buy every part I need to make a G1 except the mother board and the daughter board off of ebay. (and pay about $129)
Thought about going and extending my contract so I could get a new G1 and then selling my old one one ebay. I figure I'd break even at least.
wow, G1's are being sold for more money than I bought it for. When I purchased my G1 at release w/ a tmobile contract, i paid 125 dollars for my g1, i nabbed it a day early from release . but still, are you telling me that g1's are going for that much out there?

That's what I'm sayin' ... WOWZA!!!
If that's the going rate, I may just buy some functional GeeWons and root them and unlock them and flash them with the latest CM and throw on a $0.99 screen protector and get DOUBLE-DOUBLE!!!
I feel I did a terrible thing when I bought my G1 judging by this thread. I paid almost 700 CAD and ended up signing onto a 2 year contract after the fact because I needed data as well....
There should be an icon for getting pounded in the bum.
Remember everyone,
These are the "current" prices.
3 months ago G1's were going for about $50 broken, and $120 used.
After the phone first released, they were like $450 for an unlocked phone and even more if it was one of the first rooted phones.
To many people are buying the G1 because it is the new Super toy. My friend with an Iphone, another friend with a Nokia 900 and I are constantly playing the, 'Oh yeh my phone does..." game.
The more people who buy them, the more the market floods and the faster prices can drop.
A large handful of these people you have met...we often see them with posts like "HELP! I just bricked my phone!"
Prices will go down when the Nexus One gets released because it will become the new HOT item.
Then we can all buy super cheap replacement parts for our G1's that are also running the Nexus software thanks to people like Cyanogen, Dwang, and all the other great Devs who have been working on these phones.
As far as paying to much...can't help you there. Research is always your best friend.
$125 that seems good
G1's in the US in perfect condition are about $200-$250 on ebay... I got mine a couple months ago for $190, and felt lucky at that price. Perfect condition, only 2 hours of talk time, guy got the phone to test for a magazine, used it for 2 weeks, then sold it. I did plenty of research and spend a month waiting for one in the right condition at the right price to come my way.
Anyone that thinks they only paid "$125" for it are ignoring the fact that was the 2yr contract price, the actual price of the phone new is more like $400.
If all it has is that one little scratch, it will go for up to $200 if unlocked and in an auction. If you do a buy it now posting, $150-$175 will sell quickly and is more than fair.
I push them to $400 AUD ,,, if someone wants their rooted phone they can pay the price
I will buy them for $300 unlocked if I have someone wanting a phone rooted
they are $460 New
If someone Brings me their phone I will root for Free ...

Thanks for your valuable input on this.
If I should post it on ebay (most likely there than Craigslist), do you recommend I mention the technical details?
ie: it is rooted, has installed Cyanogen ROM 4.2.9.1 + RA-dream-v1.5.2 recovery
I know for sure I will definately take some high resolution pics of it to clearly show its fine condition.
Yes, realize what you pay for.
When you say that you are paying someone on ebay or craigslist the same price what you can get one from Tmob for, you are not. You pay that price at Tmob because you are signing a contract. On ebay and craigslist you are just getting the phone. That's why you get these phones for so cheap from any cell carrier. Because you are signing a contract. If you buy the phone without the contract, you will pay $300 plus for the phone.
Some people buy online for different reasons. To root the phone or use on another network.
And lately, people are not going to want to pay that much for a phone they are going to experiment on anyway. You can get a good used mytouch for about $150. When I had my G1, I bought it a year ago from someone for $175. But, if yours is in decent condition, you should still get a good price for it though.
Has anyone noticed people selling new Nexus One's on eBay for more money that google is selling them for? Really humerous that people would pay $650 for a Nexus One. I guess there is one born everyday.
youre forgetting that the people selling on ebay are shipping the phones out to people who live in areas google is not shipping to.
I noticed that as well right when people started getting their's and contemplated selling mine for the profit then repurchase it.....but I didn't.
Several of the ads say USA sales only; or USA, Canada, EU sales only.
As well, I am willing to bet money more than 1 person has bought one off eBay at those inflated prices that could have gotten it off Google just fine.
you know i'm thinking about buying a N1 try it out, and if i really really can't stand it resell it on ebay..
obviously not a light decision as there's still risk, and ebay fees that you have to consider

yes that too. Some people will just try to scam money out of a person who did not do his research.
When the Playstation 3 first came out, it was being sold EASILY on ebay for over $1000!
if you notice, alot of bidders have 0 feedbacks. and lots of those are just scams.

Not talking about auction items, talking about Buy It Now only listings like that one, where the price is $100 over googles, and unless you live in the lower 48, you gotta pay extra for shipping!
Just an FYI, that $650 price might be pushing it, but even then, anything under $650 if you include cashback rewards will be cheaper than google's price for some people because of tax and ebay cashback.
As of right now there is a total of 13% cash back if you know what you're doing. So for example, $650 minus 13% cashback is about $565.50 which would be cheaper for some people. $529 + TAX = $570+ for some people. $650 buy it now would be pushing it, but imagine if it were $600. Yea, to someone who didn't know any better, he might think OMG that's way overpriced, but $600 - 13% cashback is cheaper than $529 + TAX. Hell it's even cheaper than $529 with no tax.
Then you add in the people that have paypal coupons and you get the picture.
Here's my logic:
phone $530 +
USA tax (depends on State of your mailbox address) $0 to $53? +
USA mailbox $15 single use? +
USA to Canada shipping $30 and more (those sites don't want to take risks) +
Canada import fees, around $70 (phone NOT made in USA) +
USPS/UPS/FedEx brokerage fees $5 to $30 depends
If you want to take risks you can TRY to have the USA-forwarding company lower the value, so you save some import fees. A lot of them won't, because of the high volume of shipments they do.
With ebay sellers they are more likely to lower the declared value and even mark it as a gift if you ask. $659 shipped to Canada looks like a deal to me LOL....

I got a grand each for a couple PS2's. People thought I was wrong for doing it, but hey, I waited overnight in upstate NY, towards the end of winter. My time and freezing cahones were worth a grand to me and obviously the guys that paid it. lol
I'm very leery of these internet sites. I've been scammed on eBay, and I've already listed it on Craigslist. I searched around and found Gazelle.com, but they have horrible reviews. Best Buy and Radioshack both buy back old equipment, but for a horribly low return, and it's only in store credit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Craigslist is your best bet

What carrier is the phone with and how much are you asking?
Are you in Canada ? I would say Kijiji.ca
I have great success selling and buying products that are advertised.
I'm in the US, the phone is on AT&T (locked), and I was thinking $150-$200 with all the accessories. Is that around the right price? I have a car charger and a case for it.
Imagine you'll be hard pressed to get that when ATT sells them for $99 new.
Captivate selling for $300-400 on Kijiji in Toronto. I think your price is reasonable. Not everyone is eligible for a $99 upgrade and sometimes people need to replace lost/damaged phones or simply can't wait for upgrade pricing.
I would say Craigslist is your best place to sell in your area. Happy Selling !

But you need to buy into a 2-yr contract with that $99. $200 for an (albeit locked) phone with no contract seems fair to me. AT&T's no commitment price for a new Focus is $499.
@OP, I would suggest eBay but their fees are very high. Maybe one of the more popular mobile phone sites has a marketplace?
Hi,
Can I buy it from say ebay at 50$ and then unlock it using any website??
I know it sounds stupid but I am desperate at trying to test my game on real WP7 device
Thank you
Of course you can. But it probably more like $300+. There are also a lot of stolen demo phones on eBay for cheap but those phones are unusable (see the sticky thread about demo mode).
Sim unlock doesn't work with any website. Only a select few has the unlock code for Focus (see the unlock thread).
Why can't I just buy it for 50$ and can I use it as a test device??
At $50 for an "off-contract phone" you will be buying either A) a broken phone or B) a "demo" phone that was most likely stolen and won't be useful for your purposes anyway.
Your only choice for buying an "off-contract" phone is to buy one at a price that will be much higher than $50.
http://wireless.amazon.com/dp/B0047T74VS <-- it's $499.99
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_tr...g+Focus+no+contract&_sacat=See-All-Categories
Those might be legal or they may not be. In the end, it's your call if you want to "roll the dice" and see if you score a cheap off-contract phone.

Because nobody is stupid enough to sell a phone that is currently $399 off contract price on AT&T store for $50.
I bought a Focus on ebay but I paid over $300 for it. You won't be able to purchase a decent working Focus for $50. And you need to look at the Seller's rep.

Mobilecityonline.com has brand new Focus for $389. I'd rather buy new from there, than buy new off fleabay...
Michael.
So my question is why are websites selling it for less than 500$ like 389$. If it's value unlocked is 500$ why are they selling so cheap compared to the original site??
The AT&T retail price is $399 (was $349 in Dec/Jan and $499 when first instroduced in Nov.). These prices are called MSRP, not the true cost of the phone. No one knows how much it costs AT&T (probably $200+) to buy it from Samsung. And most 3rd party web sites are actually selling way higher than what AT&T sells because they don't make much money selling an off-contract phone vs on-contract phones (where they get a cut from your monthly service charges). Even worse, most sites need to run a full credit report on you before they even sell you an off contract phones.
If someone is willing to sell you a Focus for $50, and it is not a broken one or a demo phone, by all means go ahead and buy it. It will be a deal of the century!
Microsoft Developpers get it for $499, so if you can get it for 10% of that, awesomeness...
IDK, You could try contacting markgamber. He has a Focus he can't give away. Maybe he'll take $50 for it?

I will be upgrading and renewing on an AT&T 2 year family contract.
AT&T charge $199 plus $40 upgrade fee.
Best Buy and Costco charge $99 plus the same upgrade fee.
Is there any reason to waste an extra $100 doing this with AT&T?
AT&T Sales support told me there is no difference except in insurance coverage which I wont be taking out.
All warranty issues will be handled by AT&T tech support regardless of where the deal was done.
AT&T said today when I asked them about the $100 price difference "ATT focuses on being a service provider, so our prices aren't always optimum, since we're not a device retailer or manufacturer. I always advise doing what's best consumer wise"
I buy all my phones from best buy and they're great. I don't get insurance either but their insurance plan is better too. Also once you get a phone there they give you a $50 per year credit every year for each of your phone lines.
I always get my phones from best buy. They always have much better deals. I actually did the At&t next through best buy and received a $100 gift card which was a WIN!!! There aren't real disadvantages of going to best buy over the company store honestly. So i'd say save your money and grab it from BB.
Between those two I'd go with BB as well due to their lower price and incentives. Hey, the phone was $99 plus a $50 GC when it launched - can't beat that! I've purchased from Costco as well. They usually have decent prices, and if needed they have a special package for Square Trade as well. Deductible used to be $25 on their member plan, but might be $50 now.
I will never shop at Best Buy unless I absolutely have to. More than once they've sold me something as "new" which clearly had been an opened and used product. I've read quite a bit of other people having the same experiences.
