I have just put about 20GB (210 albums) of music on my 32GB MicroSD memory card. All was going fine until I launched the "Music Player" and selected Artists. I get the following error (and then it takes me to the home screen):
Not enough space in music database
I can sort by album and select the all option but as soon as I touch the Artist button I get the above error. I have loads of storage space available and even after rebooting the phone (so it has max RAM) it still doesn't work.
Can someone help? I really wanna sort my music my Artist!!
Ah, I had the same with my 32GB card too, but my unit was faulty anyways, so I didn't make too much of that error. Concerning to hear its been replicated by another 32GB card owner. My replacement unit might arrive tomorrow, so can investigate further then.
I get the same error with my 8gb card. It also happens when you try to tap on the artist's name, album title or song title and search within the musicplayer.
WFK tomorrow arrive my SGS and i have a 32 gb card please pleople helps us
did you try all songs or just certain ones sound like a bug more in the music player than the card size..
maybe it doesn;t like one of the tags on the song.. i hit a similar bug in the contacts.. when it imported the birthdate was wrong ie something liek 423.1.10
and when i tried to edit it or delete it the contacts would crash...
i had to add an additonal anniversary then it would let me delete the bad one. and then re-add correctly.
Its all songs, and its not a tagging problem (my 22gb collection is meticulously tagged). I thought it was probably a size-related problem since the only other person to report the same issue till now was another 32GB card user, but obviously its not that.
What resolution are you guys using for your album art images? Mine are quite high-res (at least 600x600), and both embedded in each file and in the folder (ensures maximum player compatibility with album art), wonder whether the album art is using too much space?
I had a 32 GB card too. Could not get Artists.Downloaded btunes which works fine. It was only USD1.49, so well worth it. Does that mean it is the programme rather than the phone?
Had the phone I day, and overall very happy.
I have the same problem in my galaxy S, is there a way to solve?
Same problem here, still present in JG5 firmware...
I only have something like 2 or 3GB of music on it so it really makes no sense. Also moving the music to the internal sd doesn't help...
The problem is still here. I deleted some files from my 8gb sdcard, but it doesn't work.
I noticed that in astro file manager, looking at the sd available space, the percentage of the folders is around 86% (purple), but the disk is 97,6% (blue). What does this means?

This does not sound good. I have about 20 GB of music too but have only brought a small percentage over to my SGS internal SD card while taking my time to look for an external memory card. I don't expect to hear so many people having problem here. I hope there are also success stories.
What brand of memory stick is everyone using I used an 8GB Transcend (i think) and it was fine but i have moved to a 16GB Sandisk and got this problem. When Googling the issue I found many links to Sandisks sansa range of media players that was displaying this problem could it be a sandisk problem or am i just barking up the wrong tree?
Could be... Sandisk here as well. 16GB Class6. Only 2 or 3 GB of music and still 8GB of free space so that can't be the problem...
Would suck if the sandisk is causing the problem, Kingston already causing issues with other things I believe. Also very strange that another music player has no issues at all!
Had the same problem but since Firmware JG5 (and now JG7) it is fixed with mine (16GB SD Card with around 8GB MP3)
Where is JG7??
Hmmm, really?
Still have the same issue with JG5, may I ask where you got JG7 btw? Any (noticable) improvements? Perhaps I should re-store all my music and hope a clean setup fixes things.
Deleted all my music and placed some new music on the internal sd... about 3GB worth. Still getting the error, getting annoying!
Has there been any updates to getting this resolved?
Mine was doing this, then it stopped (JG5 ROM). I didn't do anything special, the music files on the SD card are the same and there is less space on the internal disk so I don't know why it stopped.
Hmmn, might be a reason for me to upgrade to the JG5 ROM in that case...

Hey there guys.
I have the latest european stock firmware on my SGS2. The issue persists since I bought the thing: I am using a 32GB card and I cannot get the phone to see media files that are on it. I copied 2 or 3 movies on the card, which was of course formatted before use, and it says that the space is taken but I cannot see the files either in file explorer , or in Gallery. Any idea why? Maybe it doesnt fully support a 32GB card?
Are you using fat32? If not... use it

did you format it with windows? if yes which format did you choose? it is always better to format it from your device directly. i also have a 32mb external sd card and it works fine
I formatted in on the device. I imagined this would be the best way. And my computer is alos set to format as FAT32. So maybe it is just a faulty card??!!

Maybe the movie is too big for the file system. Every file system can handle only files up to a special size... Try to reformat and check if the video is converted the right way... Take aybe 10 minutes of the movie, convert it and transfer it to your phone to be sure about the file size thing... Officialy the phone is compatible up to 64gb.
Unfortunately is none of the suggestions. Although I can use the card perfectly well on the laptop, it doesnt work properly with the phone. Must be some incompatibility. Which sucks, since it s a 32GB card... Thank anyway
Are you sure it's really a 32GB card? Many cheap cards that one can buy on places like eBay are fakes -- low-capacity cards hacked to look like high-capacity.
There are some test programs that will tell you if the card is really the capacity it's supposed to be. On the phone itself, you can run SDCardTester (free from Android Market), and on the PC you can run h2testw.

Yes this might be an idea. It is unbranded , but on laptop it shows 32GB. Hmm.. I have it from a sony ericsson xperia from a trusted person, but on the other hand...who can you trust? I will try my 4GB card and see if it shows my movies.

I just switched from the iPhone 4S 64 GB AT&T to the Note 3 32GB AT&T and put in a Sandisc extreme 64GB microSDXC.
I had problems with the iPhone freezing and crashing. Doing a factory reset, a lot of my programs disappeared from iTunes. It was getting to be really annoying.
On the Note 3 I love the screen (size and resolution) and many other things. Asphalt 8 and RealRacing 3 look and play great.
While I had to call AT&T to block my outgoing Caller ID, I could do that from the Note 3.
There is no sales tax on purchases from Google Play store in Texas, while Apple always charged me 7-7.5% (I know because there is no "retail presence" of the Google Play store in TX).
Bad annoyance: I did, for as many programs as I could, the "Move to SD Card" and now I have ugly default android gray icons with SD in the right lower corner. How do I get the original icons back without transferring back to "device memory".
I am trying to upload music files to the SD card.
When I use Samsung Kies 3, will it upload the files to the SD (did not see an option for that anywhere). If it does not install it to the SD card: where are those files uploaded and how do I transfer the files over to SD and how do I play the files/playlists? Is there a way to directly transfer the files from the computer to the phone bypassing Kies. How and where do I upload books (pdf and other formats)?
Anyone know if there will be a combination extended battery/wireless charging case in the future?
My 14 days return time frame is not over, but they would have to "pry it from my cold dead hands".
The way I would do it is to just take the SD card out of the phone, stick it in the computer, copy and paste. The music player should find the songs automatically. As for the icon thing with the "move apps to SD card".... I don't know about that one. I haven't seen any reason yet to do that.
Welcome to Android, where you can use any file explorer on any OS to copy any file you want to any location on your phone.
You don't need to use Kies for media. Just use the phone and SD like you would any usb storage. In the music app you can then either select the specific folder, or let it scan the entire device.
Also no need to convert files, it plays pretty much anything. (and if the stock player won't, another will. For video I suggest Diceplayer from the start.)
Kies is for backup and sync, everything else you can do the good oldfashioned way. Most of us have never even installed Kies.

OK first you need to release the mindset of itunes for everything as in with Kies. DONT USE KIES lol
Just plug in your note 3, open up the folder you want, it will say phone or card
Drag the files you want. If thats not cool with you, there is an app called iSync that can copy your iTunes playlist over to your phone.
Also I think you should leave your Apps on the phone memory and not on the SD. Use the SD for media and your internal for apps and such. This way if you need to replace the sd or whatever you will be good.
Historically Google removed that option from android because it causes issues like for example the corrupted icons you've experienced. Samsung only added it back in with the 16 gb s4 because the system rom got so big it left users with less than 9 gb available space.
As the poster above said chuck all your media files on the external card. The 25 gb you will have initially available internally is more than enough for all of your apps unless you install a dozen or more high end games. Likely you'll only ever play a few at a time and then remove them when you get bored, at least I do.

Thanks for all the tips. I will try it tonight.
Welcome to Android, enjoy the coming months of playing around and finding out what you've been missing out on! I was an apple user until the Galaxy S2, since then I've never looked back! One little warning though, customisation becomes addictive... Flashing Roms, kernels, rooted apps/services.
Xda has some amazing devs contributing and as always they are happy to help a friendly fellow androider.
Back on topic though, I wouldn't even bother moving your apps the SD card? 32GB is loads of internal storage! Even tho we only see 25(ish)of that, below is my games folder and I have 8GB of internal memory left! But if I feel like freeing up space I'll simply use Es file Explorer and copy the game files from Android /data to my SD card (if rooted, use titanium backup app to backup the apk of the game) and swap back in at a later date if I wanted to play again
Hope this helps

I saw iSyncr in the app store for $3.99 but there were a lot of 1 star ratings.
I will do the direct copy via Windows.
I have a stock I9505, with a 32gb sdcard in it.
It shows up in settings as 32gb, but on my widget as the same size as internal. I have installed stuff to it but it just keeps corrupting what ever is on it. I had final fantasy dimensions installed which uses 200mb on the card. It corrupted. So did other smaller games, and music, pics.
I have read there is a common fault on the s4 that causes this.
Is there a fix for it?
Hey Guys
No clue WTF is up with my Note 4 but I all of a sudden got a heads up this afternoon that I was running out of local storage space and needed to clear up some files to make room.
I store everything (app files and all photos etc) on my 64GB card and, last I checked, I had about 12GB of space left on the phone with 7.5GB of OS usage.
According to my phone I was down to 400MB and my phone was feeling a little warm while just sitting on the table.
So I connected it to my PC, removed an old camera folder and a few other things and got it up to 3.56GB but still way too low and all visible folders to me are low in size so something is going on within the system files hidden away to be chewing up 21.6GB of space.
Within 3-4 mins of freeing up the 3.56GB of space, it dropped to 2.4GB!?
So I checked the storage on the phone itself and it was showing only 1.8GB available.
Within 5 mins it was down to 889MB and there is has remained.
I cannot figure out WHAT is writing so much to my phone that is is chewing up 10+ GB?
Anyone else ever experience this?
Could it be Google Photos but if so, why would it write anything to my phone vs uploading it to the cloud?
I installed 2 apps 2 days ago, both for my Mi Band 1S and they appear to be using next to nothing storage and battery wise so I am not sure what is up but it is driving me nuts.
Appreciate any input, advice, or ideas!
Cheers :good:
Use the "SD card Analyst" feature in ES file Explorer or similar feature in other file managers to see size of each folders in SD and External SD.
Mmm but the issue isn't with my SD card but rather the local main storage.
Or are you suggesting the SD card has something to do with that?
Cheers
Was thinking about a system update, but 10GB is a lot.
Strange stuff, hope you get it solved, kinda curious what it could be.
Perhaps it would help if you posted model and firmware version.
Kind regards, Stefan.
Yeah I wondered the same thing but I do not think Rogers has the 6.0 update rolling out yet...I should get it by the time 7.0 is out :|
Well my phone, just now, plummeted down to 15mb of onboard storage left and all I did was take a couple of photos (I choose to save all photos to my 64GB SD card).
I am wondering if Google Photos is caching a ton of info in a hidden folder somewhere after the latest update?
It told me to delete photos since they are uploaded to t Google Photos but those files are on my SD card and yet it is telling me I am running out of space.
Figured it out!
Even though my photos are tossed to the SD card after taking them, Google Photos decides to store ALL your photos in a hidden folder within the system files WTF Google.
I had 18GB of photos so I cleared the Google Photos cache and all good.
Cannot wait for 6.0 and using expandable memory as internal storage.
Hello, i have got the same behavior. After checking which app is the bigger one, I found that google photo took about 14Gb!
I have deinstalled this app and reinstall it. It is fine just for 2days and I have just double check this morning that I have lost again more than 4Gb in one night....
It seems that this memory leaks happens only when connected to wifi.
Ah ha... So it must be after the last update. I re-enabled mine and sure enough it started backing up the photos off the Web to my phone even those the are already on my SD card! I left a 1 star review on the play store... They generally are pretty quick to patch
Hope the patch will come soon...
I sent them a feedback, wait now their answer.
Hi everyone,
I got the latest Moto X as soon as it went public because I loved the idea of Vanilla Android with SD support. I got the 16 GB version and a 64 GB SD. Ever since I got it, the phone has been bugging me about the storage and today I finally gave in. Until today I kept my photos, music and podcasts on my SD card but the internal memory was constantly full and I couldn't install new apps. So I thought formatting the SD card under Android 6 would make it one with the internal storage. It didn't. It made it worse. I can move apps to the SD card but I can't force photos and other media to be saved there. I was hoping for internal-SD continuity and I got a total lack of control. So now I can't receive SMS and I keep having "storage is running out" notification while I still have 60 GB free on my SD card.
What's your take on this? Thanks!
Since this is about SD cards, I'm having another problem to state if OP doesn't mind. On my Moto X, when using exploring (using file explorer) the original sd card I've used for years, many folders do not show up. The same happens to a video player (RockPlayer), where it doesn't show many folders I have on my card (it did when used on my previous Atrix 2). However, when I go to "Storage & USB" and select the card, everything is normal. That means, only when viewing the sd card via "Storage & USB", all folders appear.
However, applications and games (besides gallery) will assume the first situation, where those folders remain invisible. Does anyone know what the problem actually is?
Edit: After checking, it seems that my /sdcard folder is the same as /storage/emulated/0.
Thank you.

Have you tried using OpenCamera instead? It's free, open source, AND lets you choose where to store the pics. IMHO the picture quality is better too.
You could also move the pics to the card manually after you take them...

Great call, thanks for the tip.
I haven't had any problems saving photos or other media to my SD card with adoptable storage. This is something you should be able to specify in preferences whether you are using adoptable storage or not. If this doesn't work with some apps just use a file manager to move the files to the SD card.
Sometimes when I move apps to my SD Card, I would get similar messages about being out of space, even though this wasn't the case. Deleting the cache on SD card seemed to fix the problem. There can also be a problem if your SD card is too slow. However, you would probably get an alert if that was the case.
My advise erase it all internal and sd card start from a blank state the phone should give you the option to mount the sd as internal I don't like how it is implemented so I chose not to use it.
For some strange reason my phone will not read my SD card I have it formatted to internal stage and now it says searching for SD card. I'm so mad I've searched all over with no solution, I'm about to get a new phone and scrap this one, sorry I'm just very upset and I had to vent, of anyone knows of this type of issue please share.
