Coming from a Xoom owner and having played with the ipad 2 this weekend, I'll admit that Apple has just thought everything out much better than Motorola has.
In this, I don't blame Google...I love honeycomb and think its the better OS, but right now I can't recommend the Xoom to anyone I know unless they already know they want the Xoom (which are people like us).
You can just tell that Apple has thought a lot of things through...the design on the ip2 is amazing...it really does feel a lot nicer than my Xoom...its more balanced in one hand. The case, while IMO stupid, is also well thought out…the fact that they even thought of that was awesome...ive always been wondering when companies would design cases/covers that work WITH the item and looks fully integrated...the first ipad case was a pos, and the Motorola case is also ****. A lot of you will say the case is great yadda yadda, but get real, you can tell they put maybe 2 FTEs for like a week to design that thing. The way the magnets work on the iPad is great...a lot of third party case makers will probably use that to turn the iPad on/off.
The volume buttons on the Xoom are also incredibly frustrating to use...i have to actually use my fingernails to use them...again not a deal breaker since I deal with it, but still...not well thought out.
Again, I am not talking about the aps, which should catch up, but the hardware…and yea, I know “we aren’t the average consumer blah blah,” but I want the avg consumer to adopt honeycomb because they are the mass consumers that developers will flock to get. The avg consumer wants something that is pretty…really the iPad does make it feel “magical” whereas the Xoom is industrial.
Since people are focused on tablet centric aps, it is like the app stores are starting over again and the Xoom is somewhat like the G1. It took Android about 1-2 years to (IMO) catch up to Iphone’s apps (still some missing, but I’d generally say the phone apps are pretty much right up there with iOS)….so I am guessing it will take about that long for the tablet aps to catch up. In that time, maybe Honeycomb will get mass adoption…until then, I think iPad 2 is better for me too in the end. However, my nexus s will never go anywhere unless the iphone 5 fixes notifications and gives me SOME flexibility…doubtful.
It is incredibly frustrating for me because while I hate the walled-garden approach, being completely open without regulations has its qualms too…Right now neither OS is close to being perfect, but the iPad can do more now. Xoom has the potential to be amazing…I have 4 CNN widgets on one screen to get the latest news and its very pretty, but then I can’t watch Netflix in an airport? SOME devices will get Netflix…SOME devices will get Hulu…SOME devices will get mlb.tv support…three things I want to do a lot of while traveling….Sure Play On will fix a lot, but again, that is a work around. And while Playon has been great, its not perfect…nor free. Motorola has possibly forced me to leave Honeycomb.
Flash is dead…sorry, but Adobe has had a good amount of time now. I loaded flash 10.2 on my updated Xoom and while it is better, it’s not near a good user experience.
Ultimately, that is what Apple gets…it’s the user experience…not specs. Everything they have done, from banding, to hardware design, to software design, has been designed to make the user feel like they are really doing something COOL. Technology is such a black hole to some people, that the simple fact of “flicking a movie from an ipad to a TV” DOES seem magical to them…even though techies know that’s not a big deal.
Also, choices, while ultimately great, can lead to some pretty negative things…if I was an apple salesman, all I would have to say is “Fragmentation, your device may not be up to date in half a year,” which we all know is bull****, but to an avg consumer, that is one frightening sentence.
Flame Suit On.
I have both. I still like the Xoom better though.

I agree that the Apple ipad is a terrific device. the platform is about five years old now considering it is a large ipod touch/iphone and 2nd gen in its current form factor. In 18 months Android became the No. 1 smartphone OS and this is the first stab at a market Apple defined.
The screen ipad screen is better than the Xoom, the Apple ecosystem of getting media from itunes onto the tablet is idiot-proof, it certainly has the apps and it looks like video performance for movies and games is improved with the ipad2. For the average consumer (or maybe below average from our technical point of view) looking to play movies or listen to music, not caring about the encoding and wanting a plug and play experience, yes, this is a better solution than Android offers. Maybe Google Music will change that.
But that doesn't mean Xoom and Android are doomed. I couldn't care less about which platform is more popular. I guess I'm in the minority as I don't use it for games or movies. I wan't more than the ipad can give me. I want user expandable memory, multitasking, usb hosting, freedom to decide what programs make sense for me, rooting and the list goes on. I use mine to carry manuals and work information and as good as the ipad looks, for reading, characters look better on a Xoom. Maybe I want iboobs on my device, do I need Steve to tell me, no, it is inappropriate and I can't have it? At 47, I can have my wife tell me that. Steve doesn't tell me I don't want Flash!
I've use the Flash beta to watch Fox News TV it was flawless. That's probably the first and last time I'll use it as I didn't miss it with my ipad. How can it be dead when it is only available via a leaked beta?
It isn't an us or them situation. Think of it like a John and Paul relationship where there is some competition and some collaboration that makes a great overall experience. You may like Paul, I may like John but one without the other isn't nearly as good. ipad makes Android better and vice versa. Look at RIM, no reason for them to improve their user experience and now it looks like 2012 will be the year they're rolling out something "new".
Personally I'm waiting for HTC to design a Honeycomb tablet, they obviously know something about build quality and design that other manufactures do not. I don't care if that tablet is running HTC Sense, it will preform well and be beautiful.

Agree with you there. As a future tablet owner and android fan, I'm really having a hard time deciding on which tablet to pick. Every time I see a video of the xoom, the great browser and ui look, I'm sold. But then when Apple shows something like garageband, or other games/apps for the ipad, along with its "exterior", I'm sold for that aswell . This leaves me right in the middle, not a really good place to make a choice :/.
Apple just made a great move with its pricing, especially the 500 dollar model, which I believe is also there just to draw people to the store, where some decide to go for more memory. Here in Belgium, people won't choose something else over an iPad if the device isn't priced like atleast 50-100 euro cheaper, due to the "apple halo", which still exists here. I"m afraid a huge majority of people here falls into the "cartoony htc evo movie with the really annoying customer trying to buy an iphone 4 cuz it has the wifis"-category. There's also virtually no marketing for android (here). All of this leads to less sales => less developers.
Android is becoming a big hit on phones, but due to a lot of those being slow phones, game developers can't really bring their best, which is a little unforunate for people like me with SGS's.
Have the XOOM and the iPad 1. Went and played with the iPad 2 yesterday for quite a while. Nothing there to make me want to shed the XOOM or upgrade iPad 1, but agree with almost everything you say about a far more smoother user experience. That being said, I came home and read that the Samsumg Galaxy TAB 10.1 will come with a Super AMOLED display and that was all I needed to know to choose my next tablet. See below...

When has HTC ever, EVER been ahead in performance especially related to graphics? They stink at anything related to GPU or video acceleration.

I honestly don't believe that. They are the first people who have used the GTab 10.1 to say that, and according to Engadget its a TFT LCD just like the Xoom. However, they also go on to say in the video that it may be same panel used on the original Galaxy Tab. Which they were impressed with.

By preform well I meant "good enough", not ahead of anyone.
All this Google vs Apple bantering reminds me so much of the IBM/Microsoft vs Apple desktop OS war. How IBM built up the open architeture for their PCs vs Apple closed hardware system.
Not that whats going on is 100% like back then. Apple's gone cheaper(tablet wise) than its competition and I think thats a heavy blow dealt to the Android side. Android, however has something that Apple doesn't have, mass market appeal. HTC, Motorola, Samsung, Kyocera, Sony, Dell, Acer, LG, Toshiba, Viewsonic, Archos to name a few.
Kinda like the PC.
Polished turd
The Apple platform is supposed to be this well polished I had the first and second Iphone and I wouldn't go back again.
iOS sucks thats the reality!
end of story
oh and anyone waiting for HTC to save the day, looking at the flyer and the bloatware they call sense I think I will stay with the moto and xoom
Gtab doesn't have an amoled screen, heck they can't even provide super amoled+ for all of their SGS II. It also has a tegra 2 chip. Even if not, it would still "only" be super amoled, and believe me (I have an original SGS), text does not look good with the Pentile subpixel structure, even though the SGS has a PPI of like 230. Going down to 160 would be horrible for text.
Source: Engadget
HTC was quite disappointing this H1 of 2011, no leaps forward, and the flyer will probably end up like the Tab 1, unfortunately.
The problem with the android 3.0 tablets is that they are the ones that have to convince the consumer (seeing as they are more expensive/new to the market). The first thing the average consumer sees is that the xoom/whatever tablet is plasticy, relatively heavy and "fat", which is not really the best first impression.

Isn't the Xoom made out of aluminum? I haven't held one yet, but I'm assuming since you say this that it isn't obvious to tell?
I was talking more about android tablets in general, although I believe atleast a part of the back of the xoom is aluminium, but a part is "rubbery" if I'm correct. They don't have any of them here in Belgium so I wouldn't know for sure tbh.
thats my point though...I want Android/honeycomb to be popular so it gets more and more support....
It IS important whether you guys will admit it or not..Google isnt spending money to make techies happy...they want to make money, and the money is not here...its with the average joes...imo Honeycomb is NOT the problem...its the OEMs...one reason I was disappointed Nokia didn't hop on board because I think their hardware with Android could own Apple...
After having an ipad I will tell you the build on Xoom is actually as good and in some ways better

Deja vu for sure.
iOS and Android each have their strengths and weaknesses. The iPad2 and Xoom hardware each have strengths and weaknesses. Some people prefer the feel of a closed ecosystem behind a pay-to-play walled garden, others prefer on open ecosystem with a vibrant dev community.
You can compare specs (or have a pissing contest) all you want but in the end trying to convince people who's preference differs from your own to instead prefer the same product you prefer is a waste of time, energy and keystrokes. Your inability to change their minds does not mean your own preference is inferior. It just means different people have different preferences. Let them.
In the long run what this competition means is that we all get a bunch of awesome gadgets to choose from. So stop worrying that some people prefer different things than you do. Spend that time and energy enjoying your preferences instead.

HTC build quality far surpases motorola in my opinion. HTC phones ive owned and known have all been very reliable and beautifully well made. While sense isnt brilliant i still believe a HTC honeycomb tablet will be the one to have. It will look good and be well made. With far better customer services than motorola too.
I was lucky enough to get a nexus one. Stock android OS with a HTC phone. Its built brilliantly. That new samsung nexus s just looks abit flimsy to me.
What are you talking about ? iOS doesn't have a vibrant dev community? I think there's is larger than Android... You have to hack your Android to be completely "open" the same way some jb iOS. Same difference

Well my sister is wanting a iPhone4. I'm telling her it's an absolute waste of money... The IPhone4 was already a fail compared to the Fascinate. Any other phones youd recommend? Or any other reasons why she SHOULD get a fascinate?
well from what I have read the fascinate is alot easier to work with in terms of rooting. Im a newb lol so somebody else could explain this better. Do some research and read the stickies... that will help alot. I can say my grandmother has the iphone4 and the SF blows it away imo. Alot lighter for one, bigger screen, better app market and ability to customize the phone.
My opinion is that the Fascinate is a better piece of hardware, but the IOS is clearly superior to android in that it runs faster, smoother, and has less 'issues'.
For instance, Im battling massive battery drain. In the past, I often had a problem where I would wake the phone to make or receive a call, and it would be very slow and unresponsive for 15-20 seconds. Like it was doing a bunch of background crap when I was trying to use the phone. This should never EVER happen.
When the phone is being used, either dialing, in contacts, or on the dial pad, it should receive absolute highest priority since thats the primary use of the device. All other background tasks should be put aside so the user can place the call correctly. The fact that this is not the case shows me the OS is not designed correctly.
^my sf does not have that problem at all....
Best thing you can do is to tell her to go test the phones out at the store and pick the one she likes. Dont pressure her into getting what YOU want, it's her decision and it will be her phone.

I'm not a fan boy but you have a couple of your 'facts' wrong.
1. Rooting or jailbreaking my previous iPhones were as simple as going to a website (jailbreakme.com) and pressing a button that said "Jailbreak". Not sure how that is harder that what needs to be done to my SF but....
2. Better app market on android than iPhone? Seriously?
Each phone has it's pro's and cons. I've had every iPhone that has been released but now have a SF. I miss some things about the iPhone but overall like my SF better. But my wife wants to go back to the iPhone because it is "easier to operate" in her words. Some people just like the simplicity that the iOS gives you and don't care about all the customizations you can do on android.
So it depends on what you want to do with your phone.
The good news is the 30 return policy. Maybe have her try both for a month and see what she likes and doesnt. Start her with the fassy though

Android will soon take over Apple, it's a definite. Just remember, Android is a kid right now while iPhone is a grown man (lol lame).
Cool things about Android that are not the same about iPhone:
*Android has a much more open market. Google doesn't moderate apps as hard as Apple does, so there are many more possiblities.
*Android has homescreens/homescreen widgets!!
*Android apps can 'work together' with the use of intents and such, while Apple does NOT let apps work or talk to eachother.
*Android is Google. Google is awesome.
I do not like the Iphone, but in this case I would competely reccomend it, because if she isnt too good with electronics the Iphone is perfect. Big Buttons on the front for everything lol, and its just more in style I guess...
This is what I tell people about Android vs. iPhone. I feel that both are great in different ways.
iPhone is great for its simplicity & app store. You can sync your music, videos, pictures, and data on your computer. I don't think there's a similar program for Android (yet). iOS is pretty simple, straight forward. The software is streamlined and quicker to learn than Android. I say that because you can do more with Android, but it just takes more time to get the hang of it. Apple's App Store is better right now. More quality apps there. Also, some developers feel that it is more profitable than Android Market. There are a few apps that I wish were for Android but other than that, it's whatever. Usually you can find equivalent apps on both platforms.
As for an Android phone, it's great for people who like to customize and tinker around. I enjoy the community support greatly, it's a huge plus. Users and developers can enhance the experience of Android software WAY faster than iOS. I'm talking about bug fixes, tweaks, mods, themes, etc. Home screens, launchers, widgets, and custom roms are all HUGE pluses over iPhone. There is total customization here and it's amazing how you can change your phone and make it better from when you first get it. My Samsung Fascinate would be 'just ok' but thanks to custom roms, community support, and so on, it makes the phone much, much better!
Cons to Android are that it is sometimes buggy as Android software is used over many different phone brands. Apple develops software for JUST iPhone so their software will be more stable. It's like how Windows software runs on many different hardware (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.) so it doesn't always perform the same w/brands but Apple builds both their hardware and software exclusively so it doesn't have issues like that.
If you want something simple, easy, that "just works" and does the thinking for you, go iPhone. If you enjoy technology, exploring, and like to push your phone to its full potential, Android is the way to go. More possibilities and potential there.
whoisandy is completely right, it isn't a matter of which is better universally moreover it is about which device is better for its user.
I have used both devices, made calls, listened to fans of both and all it comes down to is what works for you.
I love the customization of android, the open source support, and the ability to choose what device is right for me.
The Iphone is an amazing phone and for someone who is not much of a gear head it will be perfect. It is always up-to-date and supported. Everything will be taken care of with the Iphone.
Both are great phones with amazing potential but to say one is better then the other is a little ignorant and self serving.
I agree with the two posts above me. Each phone is great for its own reasons. Let her try them both and make her own decision.

Great post!! I retract my previous post and will say that for me the android phone is better due to fact I love to tinker and customize things lol. Iphone is a great phone....probably the better option for someone like my grandmother who just wants it to do everything for her.
Ya know though if you dig hard enough, you can actually customize an iPhone. Had one for a while jailbroken (rooted), and baseband unlocked running on T-Mobile. The alternative market, Cydia, that installs when you jailbreak has apps to customize the springboard (iPhone's launcher). There's even a console app. Underlying the interface is just yet another Linux variant. There's a txt file you can edit to ramp up the clock speed (at least on 3g and 3gs) and make the os snappier, at the cost of battery life.
The part I really hated about it was being chained to a computer running iTunes. If it glitches bad, and won't boot for some reason, unless you've been synching it religiously, you loose data back to your last sync. Kinda a pain, so...
That tiny 3.5" screen hurts my head after having this 4" on my fassy. I'll never use a phone with a screen under 4" again. It is, however, slightly easier to hold the phone in one hand, and reach across with the thumb on that same hand to hit the far side of the screen cleanly on a sub 4" screen foe folks with small hands, like me, but I'be adjusted.

hahah...say grandma, are you a sheep. or are you a wolf...hahahahaha..
im kidding.
like posted before. iphone equals simplistic.
android equals possibilities. no matter how much you jailbreak an iphone, you wont obtain the same level of customization that you will with the android phones.
my thoughts, why get her either anyway? get her something that doesnt require so much thinking. My grandmother, was a firm believer that a phone was a quote" goddam phone first and everything else second" so maybe an iphone or fascinate isnt what she needs.
I say this comfortably knowing that even friends of mine have grabbed my phone to place a call and have to ask me how to get to the damn dialer. of course i said FU touchwiz, and changed everything. but still. Take her to the store, and let HER choose which one she wants.
unless you want her to get a fascinate so you can try new roms and **** out on hers without having to brick yours....you evil bastard genius you lol
that word "iphone" should be a word that you say out of anger ex: "holy iphone!" and in that context only
If your sister doesn't want to do research/understand the pros and cons of each phone then the iphone is probably a better bet, due to her wanting something that "just works" as others have said.

I have had my fascinate for 3 months now, my wife got the iphone 4, she wanted to try the fascinate so we swapped phones, i use apple products, we have and iMac, macbook air, ipad and all that crap, but when i used that iphone 4, it just felt boring, it felt like it was missing a bunch of features that i had with my fascinate.
don't get me wrong, is one hell of a phone, great built quality and everything but i missed my fascinate so much and we ended up swapping again, as soon as i got my fascinate i rooted the f*** out of it and made it the way i like it, and im happy with it, no word on iphone 5 yet but honestly im more excited about the Galaxy S 2 if verizon ever gets it.
^Agreed.^ Anyways I would wait for the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S 2 because those will be out by June for sure.
I've had the SGSII for about a week now after moving from a Nexus One running CM7, and wow I am impressed.
I know that in the grand scheme of things it's an incremental upgrade - the main reason I left it a while to move - however the SGII has in my view made a significant leap.
The main thing is that the UI is now as smooth and as refined as the iOS devices. I don't know what Samsung did that nobody else in the Android market has managed, but they've finally managed to make things as smooth as the iPhone.
I finally get that delicious feeling of having the UI elements "stick" to my finger as I move them around, rather than chase behind.
While we all know this is a superficial thing and adds little to the actual functionality, I believe this has finally closed the gap in terms of delight in using the device. I hate to use the sickening Apple term, but surely the average user will find just as much "magic" in using the SGSII as any iOS device.
Web browsing is now super smooth (hardware accelerated?) as are the home screens. Going back to my N1 I really feel the difference.
The SGSII is even more buttery smooth than my Asus Transformer running honeycomb.
Hopefully whatever Samsung have done, whether it be related to the chips in the phone or software tweaks, will be copied by all Android devices, and we can put the nagging sense of UI inferiority behind us (and I know the lack of smoothness bugged you no matter how hard you denied it).
Let's hope Android has put stuttering and lagging behind it forever. Well done Samsung.
P.S.
I haven't used the HTC Sensation so I don't know if they too have achieved this, but this is based on my observations of the hardware at my disposal.
About the same as my view of the phone thats why i find it hard to understand the this is a crap phone posts can i have sense on it is their an IOS4 rom for it etc . A if i thought the phone was crap i would have returned it B if i wanted sense i would have bought sense phone .
But yes with Android customers have choice across a broad range of phones and that is why its winning the sales drive .
Looking forward to more Android improvements as this is only really year two of development .
jje
Dont get your point.
I find the IP4 laggy compared to the SGS2 . The i9100 is by far smoother in my opinion
I haven't used or seen a better smartphone. My sgs2 is borderline biblical!

there is no " lag " its just wonderful
what would make this phone perfect is a ROM based of AOSP
which im still waiting for team hacksung to finish its version of CM7

The main thing is that the UI is now as smooth and as refined as the iOS devices. I don't know what Samsung did that nobody else in the Android market has managed, but they've finally managed to make things as smooth as the iPhone.
Web browsing is now super smooth (hardware accelerated?) as are the home screens. Going back to my N1 I really feel the difference.
The SGSII is even more buttery smooth than my Asus Transformer running honeycomb.

samsung has hardware accelerated many parts of the UI. the web browser for example is hardware accelerated, as well as a few other places.
this is why i blast google. they should have been using hardware acceleration from day 1 to give the same smooth UI experience as the iphone. the SGS2 is not doing anything special, its not the dual core making it so smooth. its simply because samsung took the time to optimize the SGS2 with graphics chip, rather than putting the burden on the CPU 100% of the time.
the nexus one would be just as smooth. look at WP7 devices. they all use the same hardware as the n1, but use hardware acceleration and proper drivers, and are the smoothest devices in the world right now.
Well that was my point - How come it's taken so long, and a few generations of Android devices for this to be done? I honestly didn't think it was possible for an Android 2.3 device to be so smooth, I thought there was something fundamental in the architecture that was going to always mean a little lag.
I'd given up any of this generation of Android phones achieving true smooth motion, and here Samsung have done it without this development even being publicised that much.
I totally agree Android should have been like this - it just blows my mind that it's taken so long, and I can see no excuse for any top tier device from any other manufacturer not to match what Samsung have done.
Also, if it is just a case of tuning the software, why haven't/didn't Samsung do it with the SGS I ?
The "this is a crap phone" posts probably mostly come from people who don't own this. ...I know that might sound a little odd but trust me, even in Android communities there are fan-boys, and some actually go that far...
yup. time to throw my htc legend. i play the pinball game. the ball look like teleporting...

I went from a Nexus One to an iPhone 4, and then to this amazing device. All I have to say is that its been the best experience yet. I actually had lag on my iPhone 4... And very little to none on the SG2. I agree that most people bashing this phone probably don't even own one. I'll definitely be buying an SGS3. Goodbye HTC and to their ****ty voice/speaker quality and locked bootloaders. And hello Samsung.

Its hard to understand why people love this device soo much unless you actually ownit. This phone seems to give the feeling that android should have been this fluid from the beginning. There is no device (including the sensation) that operates as smoothly as the sgs2. I love this phone.

GS3! Wow...the rumours, are TOO GOOD. Anything Apple pull out of the bag, even next year would simple pale in comparison to the GS3.
Posts like these makes me anxious to get mine. Still waiting on UPS!
If Samsung did some hardware/driver acceleration magic, I wonder if CM7 and the other AOSP ROM project will be able to take advantage of this as well. I don't want the stock ROM to be the only super smooth and slick ROM available.

it hasnt taken too long. the original galaxy s also had hardware acceleration in the browser for example. only the international version, but it was lightening fast and smooth as butter. it only is because samsung took the initiative and did a custom job. google certainly hasnt implemented it yet, and in ice cream sandwich they claim it will come.
i'm right there with you, manufacturers should have been pushing for a UI experience that matches apple's.
since the op is sharing thoughts about the device, i'll share mine too. i FINALLY received it in the mail today. opened the box, the device is bigger than it looks in the online review (coming from a nexus s 4g). the thin factor is impressive, but not as impressive as i was expecting. the smoothness is there as expected, but the "S" boot image is freakishly laggy--no big deal.
camera-really good
screen-what can i say? super amoled plus looks great,
hardware finish/quality-pretty good...but i prefer the smooth back over the textured back--no big deal
touchwiz 4.0-hmm, this is tough, i need to play with it some more. samsung obviously put a lot to this UI, but so far it doesnt seem as refined as other skins...for example, the default lock screen is kind of laggy, and is a pain sometimes to fully move the lockscreen so that it unlocks. numerical battery percentage would be nice without having to go into settings...other than these minor gripes, i love the touchwiz widgets.
obviously samsung has really tried to outdo itself and competitors, and the sgs II is perhaps the best android phone out there. but as of right now, it doesn't really give me that "wow" factor despite all its features. but i've only had it for one day and haven't gotten to test out the dual core, dlna, and other features.
Check this iPhone 4S vs SGS3

Pretty nice
SGS3 smokes the iPhone.
But I found it almost painful to watch, how this apple fanboy tries to find a positive aspect for his love.
It was nice to see how he destroyed the myth of easier use, when he showed the music player, or how you get movies on your device (pocket cinema)
Why not compare it with next iWhatever to be fare ?
We are basically comparing everything with iPhone4s and that itself says all ..
Strictly not apple or android fanboy as both have its own set of advantages and disadvantages
Sent from Galaxy Ace which just landed on "MOON"
"There shouldn't be any doubt that the iPhone 4S is the better-designed handset." I agree with that, although I know I should keep my mouth shut until I have actually held the SGS3 in my hands. But I do feel that the iPhone sports a well thought-out design, and it does feel premium, although it's kinda heavy for being a 3.5" device, no?
"Apart from its multimedia superiority, the Galaxy S III is also the better phone if you love tinkering with the software of your mobile device." Exactly. I have enjoyed my time with the iPhone, I really have, but it's getting boring now. I've had it for a year and now I want to tinker. I want to mod. I want to change icons and I want to flash kernels. I want to try out experimental ROMs that cause bootloops. I want that kind of fun back! I love the way you can truly personalize an Android device. I miss that and I want that back.
Winterboard, you say? Oh yay, I can choose from 2,000 ugly themes to apply, and they'll all make my phone slower and less responsive? GTFO...
Really though, what's so wrong with Ray S? I think the last two paragraphs in this review really say it all and I agree with what he writes 100%
The iPhone doesn't suck! It's a really good phone if you want that simplicity! Ray doesn't suck either! He awards points to BOTH phones and I think he did a good job with this.
The review was a total joke, since he deliberately didn't mention many advantages of the GS3.
Design - 'iPhone has more premium feel', but of course he didn't say how much more durable plastic is and how fragile iPhone is.
Keyboards - of course he didn't mention that Galaxy phones come with Swype, or that you can install a number of 3rd party keyboards compared to no choice on iOS.
I could go on but it was not a very fair review at all.
S2 and the Note beat IPhone 4s. S3 is way too better.

That's the point. He's comparing it to a, frankly, outdated phone and still spinning it to prop them both up equally.
The 4S, after all, was really an incremental update from the year before; I don't think a comparison even deserves to be made (the only reason it even comes up is because the 4S is Apple, oh my).
Unfortunately, it's just not feasible to compare it to the next iPhone, for obvious reasons.
Android phones have set certain standards in the last year, that a new iphone has to match or they won't have a chance IMHo. Really interested to see what they do about the screen size and how they will handle he resolution dilemma.
The iPhone is beginning to look and feel really old by now.
Phone Arena has a bias toward iPhone, as seen in their S3 review, we have gone over this in the previous thread. I think to compare an iPhone to Android by itself is a stupid concept. I mean if you were to give me an iPhone 4S right now, what would I do with it? I can do more thing and have more fun with a used $120 Galaxy S variant, no exaggeration.

Issue i have with his every review is more of an opinion piece instead of an objective review. He has tendencies to amplify negatives that can be seen as positive things on non-apple devices.
also the conclusion that everyone who fits the criteria below to get an iphone? If he said things like ecosystem, itunes, etc then yeah i can see it but generalized conclusion that fits both device doesn't.

Apparently, those guys would be the kind of users who don't really pay so much attention to their smartphone, but still want something that's contemporary and reliable. Are your needs limited to the basic phone stuff, surfing the web, occasional social network check and maybe even playing a game every now and then, but you have no intention of spending hours of rooting, flashing ROMs and searching for the ultimate widget set? Well, you guessed it you'll be better off with the iPhone 4S, as it's designed just for you, buddy.

My response from the other thread
Samsung Galaxy S2 is better than iPhone 4S. But my favourite feature on iPhone 4S is Siri. But I still like the iPhone, after comparing them also.
So I can pick up my new S3.
I've been wanting to switch forever to Android, but to me the hardware wasn't always quite there. Now that phones have caught up, I'm itching to go upgrade. However, I know the iPhone 5 is being released in just a little bit, so I'm going to hate myself if I don't at least hear what the 5 is going to have. My guess is NFC and a larger screen, but I can't imagine what else they could bring hardware wise. I love my Iphone, don't get me wrong, but I'm guessing hardware will barely change and to me Ios6 doesn't look like it will bring a lot of innovation to the market.
I'm such a nerd though, I use to have an HTC with Windows Mobile and modded the hell out of that thing. It was the most fun I've ever had with a phone, but the camera on it was horrible, which is pretty important in my eyes.
Does this forum looks like Android-Buy-Me-Forum? Dude, make your own decisions...nobody, I mean nobody can tell or convince you which phones you prefers. Iphone has their own advantages so does Android.
Everyone using Android will say Android is better, so if you go to an Iphone forum, the same will happen. If you want to use a phone with stability, nothing changes over time, everything goes well everytime, go to the Iphone. If you are someone who likes to tweaks your phone, able to set your own personal ringtone without going to iTunes, go to Android. Simple as that
Camera on the SGS3 is awesome, it has NFC, Android has had turn by turn navigation for years, you can do anything with Android you want, the quad core CPU is awesome if you watch videos receive an email or text and just hit the pop out play button to watch the video and check the email or text.
You aren't bound to what a company says a phone should be able to do, you don't like the stock rom flash a custom rom. The UI looks different in different versions of Android. All share cast allows you to share whats on the screen with a TV whether its a slide show of holiday pics or a video.
Google now trumps siri in so many ways (when JB comes) you can just copy files to any PC, no installing iTunes on all PCs you want to share things with.
Any other reasons you need?
Well I certainly know the differences, but I thank everyone for their input. My thought process about the iPhone was always hardware as I stated before. I never really enjoyed iOS, at least when I purchased for4. For the first iPhone 3, I'm sure a lot of us could agree it was probably the best OS out at the time. When the 4 came out, it seemed like the best hardware compared to others as well, but iOS was falling behind.
But now, I don't know whats up Apples sleeve. I mean, what could they possible bring to the table that will provide the wow factor hardware wise? NFC won't do it, I even think wireless charging wouldn't do it. A slightly larger screen and maybe a better camera? 3d? All stuff is either standard now or a cheesy gimmick. That's why i love the S3, because it has the hardware, plus we all know Android is fantastic.

Iphone's screen will never compare to the GS3, better camera get the Nokia N8 with a 12MP camera, 3d get the LG Optimus 3d, these are already out there Apple will just be copying everyone implementing things we don't see in the SGS3.
Also lets not forget the hardware in the iPhone is all Samsung hardware, so iPhone is made by Samsung as well. Any hardware Apple could improve over SGS3 (CPU, GPU, screen) will drain your battery which you cannot replace. with the SGS3 if you need it you can carry a spare battery with you and just swap it over when the awesome hardware drains the battery.
Well first off, it's an iPhone... While they may be popular, Samsung has over thrown Apple's control of the market share."Everyone that's popular, cool, rich has to have one right???" No -_- the SGS3 cost more than the iPhone, so that marks off rich people. I am pretty da*n cool and popular, that marks the others off cuz I have an SGS3. It has a quad core while Apple is just now getting into the dual core waters. Battery life is amazing. GPU is the best around. Dev support, not locked down. Jelly bean smoothness on the way.
I mean c'mon if you seriously have doubts on getting an iDevice and becoming an iSheep, then leave XDA. Unless your job forces you (which I would still try my hardest to avoid) to have an iPhone, steer clear and enjoy your freedom.
I don't know why you say the iPhone had the best hardware, it wasn't hardware that made it smooth, it was software optimisation.
The 4S is using an underclocked dual core processor and it only has 512mb of ram.
Hardware has never been apples game, they just optimised the sh*t out of iOS.
Also objective C is faster than Java. (iOS and Android coding languages respectively)
Hardware was nearly always better on high end android handsets (no point comparing a 59.99 low end Android to a 700 quid iPhone, although most people that say Android is **** base their opinions on that.) Because it had to be, the os wasn't refined as much as iOS because there were so many oems, chip manufacturers etc. there were so many variables.
Now with JB Android has really found its feet, JB is the release that Android deserves as a platform, it is the one that will win non-technical people over with the ease of use and of course the fact that it oozes butter all over the place.
So to get to the point, iOS is dated, Android is growing better with every release. Vote Android.

Well its possible for the iphone5 to be better spec wise (cpu, gpu). If you're into gaming, it seems developers always put out the best versions of their mobile games for apple's product so that could be a plus for you. Other than that, I don't think anyone knows what's going to be in it.

to the OP, you said so, you want to change to android, sgs3 is a great way to make that change, the iphone 5 could be good but we don't know yet besides, if you like freedom then android is your choice.
my recommendation is, wait till the iphone release and pick one by then, if you come to our world you will enjoy it and never leave, trust me.
If he's in the us his gs3 won't be a quad core . But it will have 2 gigs of ram and be fast as hell. I'd go with the gs3. In fact I am going to the gs3 lol. I have the gs2 right now.

Apple will never compete in hardware spec with Android because there are so many android devices come out every 4-6 months with higher spec. Apple will never catch up on that department.
Maybe there will be new softwares in Iphone5. But whatever software offered in Iphone5 will be available for Iphone4.
So basically, there is nothing, I mean really nothing worthwhile that Iphone5 will bring to you.

Is this some cheap way of getting the fanboys stocked up?!
Read how unimpressive IO6 with the features that are coming out and the compelling but unsiteresting hardware underneath it. Besides you know what your getting with apple tbh, there hardly surprising anyone as much as they used to these days, but incremental change has its merits.

I have repaires alot of samsungs and my first 4s a while ago
Build quality is something apple does better to my opinion
Not trying to hate on the plastic s3 that cracks when handled ruff
Just saying i prefer apples build quality (ill never get one tho) well if somebody gives me one sponsored i wont say no offcourse but purshasing it myself ?
I think for ppl that like apple build quality and dont like os from apple they can
Put android on it ? Lets face it this is XDA
Samsung need to notch up the build quality and then the phones would be ok
